This phone is in a terrible state for trying to recover anything. It's not rooted, I don't have CWM or any other custom recovery, adb is disabled, and it's in airplane mode. I can see what's happening on the screen, that part works fine, the only part that doesn't work is the digitizer, the 'touch' part of the touchscreen. I really need to get into the phone and recover some stuff, but every method I've found has been impossible for my phone. I'd really appreciate some help!
usb mouse
you can use an usb adapter so that a ordinary mouse could be use as a cursor

This is a somewhat strange problem that I have, I've got a G1 which has none of the front keys working, other than the trackball. No talk, home, back, or end keys. The only way I've gotten it to boot is to plug it in and insert the battery, which causes it to power on. I got it from a friend who replaced it with a MyTouch3G.
I've been using this phone for the last few days, it is my backup (other than a RAZR...). It was still on 1.6, with a build of DRC83. It was kind of difficult to use without those buttons, but I could use the keyboard search button to just search for whatever app I wanted to run and switch apps that way. I previously had a B&N Nook, and I remembered that SoftKeys worked on it since it had a lack of hardware buttons, so I started using it, although only the home button worked without root. All of the tutorials I could find stated that I needed RC29 or lower to root (I assume they're all old) but I finally figured out that UniversalAndroot would do the trick.
I should have just been happy with that, but the phone had no more room for apps, and I was hoping to use Apps2SD, so I flashed ClockworkRecovery, downloaded CM6.1, and attempted to flash it, which now has me stuck in a boot loop at the 'ANDROID' text logo. I can get into fastboot (the camera button works). But since the home button is inop, that's my only option. Is there anyway to reset or restore the phone via fastboot? I've read that I can restore a nandroid backup that way, but for some reason the nandroid backup I made didn't save on my SD card (it must've crashed or failed to write or something). Is there any way to get another image to flash via fastboot? I couldn't find a stock image or anything. Am I just stuck? I thought about getting a broken phone off of eBay and replacing the buttons, is that my only option?
Thanks for everything you guys do on here, you all are the best!
is the button completely inop? what is your phone stats? radio, hboot etc...? i have a un-root method but you need recovery so i guess you cant do that... im not to sure about fastboot i will check for you though...

Yes, all the buttons are completely inop. I disassembled the phone earlier and found the culprit.... the connection port on the daughter board which the input module plugs into has been sheared off of the daughter board (the board which houses the micro sd card port, the USB port, and connects to the input module, and which sits underneath the button assembly). Before disassembling it, I ordered a new input module membrane off of eBay, but it now seems likely that I won't need it. I'm not sure if there is a way to re-solder the port back onto the board, but I doubt it would work and my soldering skills aren't exactly the greatest. This of course makes perfect sense, since the trackball was the only part working; it connects directly to the daughter board, bypassing that broken port. So, in the meantime, I'll work on getting a broken G1 off of eBay and hope that it doesn't have a messed up daughter board.
Basically, if there was a way that I could get into recovery, I'd be good to go, but I can't. A few other things I've found by searching: apparently fastboot is accessed by holding the back key while booting? I was booting while holding the camera button, I had just tried it and assumed that it was the same thing. I noticed that it didn't seem to actually be in fastboot when I connected it to my computer (fastboot devices didn't show anything). So I might just be 100% stuck until I get the buttons fixed. I did see a version of Amon_Ra recovery that used the Menu button as an alternative to the Home button for confirmation, which was made for somebody with a broken Home button, however, even if I could manage to flash that recovery, I don't think it's possible to boot into the recovery with the keyboard Menu button.
I'll post the phone stats I get on Camera+Power On once I put the phone back together tomorrow. Thanks for the help!
Hi all
My screen light, when my qwerty is slide in, stop working. Idk why, but the touchscreen is not affected. When keyboard is out, it works fine...
is there any solution? is there any way to "force" the light on, even slide in/out my keyboard?
any ideas?
thanks a lot

Factory reset and/or reflash firmware with rsd lite
If device is not rooted factory reset should work.
Or
There are some apps like lightflow that may help
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Thanks a lot
Lightflow is for notifications?
I was referring to the backlight.
I think that it's a HW problem, poor connection between the screen and qwerty or something similar. I put a little carton between the keyboard and the screen and the lights on...
Hi again
My screen doesn't work anymore.
I dont know what happened with my phone, i think that in a reboot it entered to safestrap or other option and doesn't boot.
When I press vol keys, my D4 vibrates.
My pc shows 2 disk but I can't see the data (maybe it's unmount?).
I can't see the device via ADB.
PD: Fortunately, previously I made a backup of memory (8 GB) ... but I wanted made a full backup with safestrap D:

Your LCD or flex cable likely failed, fairly common with slide out droids
both can be replaced
you need to unlock you screen to see data on drives
Likely the Digitizer is still working, just need to guess where the unlock is

Thanks again! superfast answer
Now, my pc shows "mot single adb interface" in device manager. But when i'm listing ADB devices, doesn't show my D4
So this is for my dad's phone. He dropped it and the screen and the LCD panel part busted so the whole screen is all black. Can't see a single thing on it. He got a new (read:refurbished) one so that's not an issue. I'm trying to use a screen mirroring program to factory reset the phone before he sends it back to Motorola. Issue seems to be those programs require USB debugging mode to be turned on but since the screen is all black, I can't do that. I even tried doing multiple screenshots and guessing where things were but it didn't work (worried the top of the phone's touch digitizer is busted too but i'm hoping for the best lol). So I need a way to turn on USB debug mode, with a totally black screen (touch still works), NOT ROOTED, so I can then mirror it with the MirrorGo or Vysor mirroring software so I can factory reset the device. If you have any thoughts for a simpler fix then I'm open to suggestions. I'm not tech savvy enough to do anything with Rooting and i'm not confident enough to try doing that with a busted phone (if it's even possible), so that's an option that's out too. :/

You can go into recovery mode and do the factory reset there, it's probably the easiest way to do it.

Yea, i tried that with the bootloader/fastboot thing. It didn't seem to work. I can barely tell if the device is even ON, only indication it's on is the volume rocker makes a noise to indicate volume and the bottom buttons light up. So being able to tell if the device is even IN it's bootloader mode thing was a crapshoot. I'm gonna need either a way to screen mirror in real time without debugging mode on, or a way to enable debug mode remotely essentially.
My P8 has a touchscreen problem where a strip in the bottom doesnt register touch input.
The phone is perfectly usable anyway by rotating the screen, but I needed to factory reset it and now I cant get past the intial language selection setup screen, because I cant click "next" in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Its a PRA-LX1 model, with the stock 7.0 (I believe) ROM, and a locked bootloader, all bone stock.
Alternatively, is there a way to unlock its bootloader strictly through fastboot and flash a ROM without SetupWizard without needing to use the touchscreen at all? That would also solve my issue.
Use usb-OTG cable and connect usb mouse to your phone. that's how I use mine with broken touchscreen as a phone for my music room
That helped, thanks.
Turns out some P8 models doesnt support OTG, but not all of them, and I assumed mine did not.
Using an USB mouse did the trick for me.
Hello,
I'm trying to take off my files from my old Moto X. The screen is black due to the screen's ink which covers the display, but the digitizer is functional and I can unclock my phone! The problem is that when I connect the device to the pc, I can see the XT1097 on the hard drive display but there is nothing inside. I'm thinking that if I could change the USB mode from charging only to Transfer Files would solve the problem but after I blind-unlock the phone I do not feel any vibration.... The phone is rooted but I'm not sure about the USB debugging. I found this, but the links don't work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j0N9bndQUE
I have also installed the TWRP.
Any advice?
edit: I tried to search my phone through ADBDriverInstaller.exe but it cannot be seemed. Maybe the USB debugging is off.
