I have the Xperia T and I am trying to update to 4.3, I had tried to use flashtool, but the phone isn't recognised by the computer when I plug in the cable holding the down button. Now the update is finally here for me I tried using PCC but again having the same issue. I have tried two different computers and all the USB ports on them. I have also fully switched off the battery (holding down the power and up button keys for 10 seconds).
I am stumped as to what is wrong with the phone??
thanks
Can no one suggest anything I could try? I have a feeling its a hardware fault, but it seems like a strange one at that... I dont know if its related but the phone also sometimes doesn't wake from sleep, it seems to be awake but the screen is not on, which requires me to do a hard restart
I am really desperate! thanks

turn of your phone. open flashtool. do not connect the phone to pc. select the firmware and click on flash,. after a few seconds it asks for the phone to connect. the hold the vol - button and plug in the usb. release the vol - button after the green light turns on. this may solve your issue

thanks for the suggestion though
Interesting update (well not really), but I did some troubleshooting and stuff and found that when plugging my phone into the charger when it is switched off, it doesn't respond either (i.e. boot up). So I have a feeling that its the actual phone with a fault such as damaged pin in the usb port that relates to power when the phone is switched off?

I have the same problem.
When the phone is turned off it won't charge, either wiht the wall charger or with the USB cable connected to the computer.
I've sent an email to SONY but they told me so sent it to tech support.
It's not very easy to do it where I am so I'm looking for some other options.
I also noticed it when I was trying to update to 4.3.
PC Companion isn´t a solution since it asks to connect the phone to the PC while turned off pressing the volume down button, even to try the repair.
Can someone help?
Found the issue here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018466
Such a weird problem, but unplugging and reconnecting the battery solved all the issues I was having!

When you hear the three times vibration then you shutting down your phone and after that the phone is turned off completely, then leave it under wall charger via USB or Dock for minimum 4 hours, if it do not turn on then you have to flash a new Firmware OR Repair via PC Companion. Download Official Sony PC Companion and repair your phone. Other way is to use Flashtool and download the latest FTF from Mega Collection and flash it. Then it should turn on.

if nothing is happening just the LED red blinks even when you put the device in the charge, its hard bricked and will be fixed just with opening the phone and relive it with test point ...

If it's brick, no prob, let's begin
Requirements:
The latest Flash Tools version, the latest FTF file of your phone, or any FTF file you want
Plug your phone to AC charger for about one or two minutes, and if you see red LED, now your phone is OK
1) If your phone has more than 50 percent charges, you can unplug it
2) If it has less 50 percent, let it charge for about an hour or more till it reaches 70 percent
So, no matter the first way or second, after you unplug it, now you can now connect your phone via USB and flash it
If you do everything correctly and if nothing goes wrong, after flashing, you can use your phone without any problem
If you couldn't do it, inform me to help you more
Look at the micro sd slot. Is there a red stripe? Or white?
If red, it's a water damage

Try the hard brick fix (if you have warranty send to Sony instead). I doubt it'll do anything because it seems by your decription the hardware is damaged physically, but its worth a shot.

Drain your battery completely
By Pressing and holding volume up and power button for 15 second, no vibration dont worry just hold it for 15 seconds and forget your phone for 1-2 days
Get working charger and usb cable check it then connect charger to phone there should be red light
Leave your phone for 3-4 hours
Now disconnect your phone from charger
Again check usb cable and drivers in pc
Open flashtool and get stock ftf ready for flashing
Once the dialog box appears with phone's animation
press and hold just volume down button and connect your phone with pc and immediately Release volume down button as soon as dialogue box disappears
Then disconnect phone when instructed in flashtool and wait for 4-5 minutes
Now try to turn on the phone.
Main thing is to have patience
This should work as i have my phone in same hardbricked state twice and this brought life in my phone back..!
This fixed mine

I hope, your solution works for me too. I ordered a battery and waiting for delivering it. If it won't work, I'll write here to help someone like us who wants to order a new battery.
Edit:
After battery changing, the phone worked. I don't know why, but it had been locked and rebooted repeatedly. Then I resetted to the factory settings. After that, it has been started to run well.
I've done searching on this forum but I haven't found any answers that are specific to my issue. I just bought this Xperia SP from a retailer online. It may be a refurb, I'm not sure, but it looks brand new. Anyways, when I opened the box and tried to turn it on, nothing happened. Ok I thought, I'll just charge it. When I charge it, the red light on the bottom just comes and goes. Stays on for a few minutes, then goes off for a few minutes. I let it charge for almost 6 hours like this and nothing has happened. When I plug the phone into my PC you hear the USB connected sound, but right after you hear the disconnected sound, and nothing shows up in device manager. I tried the Vol+ and Power button combo and nothing happens. I tried holding the reset button on the back for 5-10 seconds and nothing happens. I get no vibrations at all. The phone is not detected in any program like SUS, Flashtool, or PC companion. Some times when I press the power button I get 2 red short flashes, I have no idea what this means as it's not consistent, and only happens every once in a while. Anyways, I think I may just return it and hope for a replacement :\ Any ideas?

Faced with same issue a month ago, after a buy Xperia SP from Ebay. Same symptoms: red light while charging, sound on PC when I first time connect with it, with no luck at all. First of my attempts to fix this, is changing my usb cable, then installing universal android usb driver, but nothing helped me. Then I just ask google for my problem . This is an answer that helped me:
Xperia SP comes with a non removable battery. So turning off in this condition is not possible by removing battery. The volume up+power button doesnt work in Xperia SP unlike other phones. The solution is given below.
Remove the back cover of Xperia SP and look for a small yellow dot on mid bottom with “OFF” written below it. Check the image below.
Now “Press & Hold Down the OFF Button, using a tip of pen or any other pointed object for around 10 seconds”. Phones vibrates and will be switched off automatically. Check image below.
P.S. Don’t use very sharp objects as it may damage the OFF Button.
Now phone restarts.
After restarting we found that our Xperia SP got back to normal temperature and everything was fine. :smileyhappy: We were able to charge our Xperia SP again, device was cool.
Hope it will work for you also

I don't think you read my post thoroughly. I tried the reset button on the back, it didn't do anything.
Plug the phone into the computer, reset your device (yellow button), than immediately press and hold volume down key. If computer respond with sound and green led notification on phone, next step is SUS (Sony update service) to factory reset your device and start with latest stock firmware.

That's actually a good idea and I hadn't tried it. However, after trying it now it still didn't work :\ Still nothing. It's as if my reset button doesn't even do anything. I push it with a small object and it doesn't feel like an actual button, there's no movement to it.
I get the green LED for some seconds but then it turns off and boots back up to the red LED again. Any help?
I believe the problem was because of no charge or the phone was too hot?
Anyways, I'm glad to say that I let it charge first and then let it cool down, download a stock tft firmware and flashed it using Flashtool. Now everything is fine until now.
Going to try and see if I can install that 4.4.4 ROM, again...
I encountered that problem when i updated my phone my phone previously, i just reflashed my ftf.

I had a simmilar issue , look what you have to do:
1- Connect the phone to the PC , you must see the red light , if not wait few minuts , you must see it.
2- When you have the red light , put the phone near of you and keep you eyes on it for 5-15 minuits , you must see the green light turn on.
3- When you got the green light take your phone , and even if it goes off , now hold the VOL - botton and then hold the Off botton in the bottom of back of the phone for 7-10 seconds , you must the the green light turn off and on again. (you have to do all of that while it's still connected to PC)
When the green light turned on again that mean you are on flashmode , now better to use Flashtool to flash a firmwate.
Notice: the phone may get disconnect while flashing , so you must to flash it in 2 levels: first one by excluding the system.sin then flash it.
The second time you redo those steps to get into flashmode again , go and flash only system.sin be uncheck the wipe boxes , and by checking all exclude boxes but the system one.
You may fail flashing the system many times because it's the longest step , so try to charge your phone more time and try to flash it again and again.
I've test everything...!!!

Hi there i think i'm in a worse state than you, my phone has been water damaged
I cleaned it with alcohol(99%) about a month after it swam with me in the sea(it was the soonest possible since it happened whilst i was on holiday and it did ruin my holiday ) i also replaced the battery but only a red light shows when i put it on charge wall and pc. before it didnt light up at all so its making progress... its not recognised by my pc however when i disconnect the battery it lights up pink, when battery connected its red. I have got no clue on what to do next, any ideas?
This is a HARD Bricked phone that first started going berserk after a partial install of a SONY software update. The phone would flash the home screen and continually vibrate. I forced it down with power off. Did not know what I was doing and believe I converted a soft brick to a hard brick. The soft brick at first responded to power button and volume up button to reboot. After that point it became more and more unresponsive to complete death.
It is not recognized by PC (even in the device manager) when plugged into USB port on PC. NO LED or any lights on the phone at all! No red charging LED with charger plugged in, No Sony screen icon, no vibration with power button pushed hard for >10 seconds (with and without pushing up/down volume). The ONLY response I get is an audible windows sound coming from my PC as long as I hold the power and volume up button down.
I have left the phone off a charger for >48 hours and then placed it on the charger for 6-7 hours. Still no red LED while on the phone was on the charger. Reason for me doing this was my reading notes that Sony had a battery error issue that could only be solved by removing the battery or draining it completely. Recharging the battery was suppose to be a fix. A recent poster did this (removed the battery) which is a job and was able to get a red LED but nothing else. There was no reply.
My readings also indicated that there are a number of people with this problem (hard bricked phone) involved with download or install of their software Sony reportedly has a fix to install to correct it. I am a day late and a dollar short.
BTW, the Sony PC companion works up until I connect the phone to the PC and then an error message appears to make sure battery is charged to 80% before proceeding. Ignoring that brings up a troubleshooting screen prompting holding the power button and volume up button for 10 seconds. This is where I get an audible windows connect/disconnect sound coming from my PC that will keep sounding as long ass I hold the buttons down and stops after I remove them. Could this possibly be just a battery issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Firstly, you've made one major mistake when you've turned off your phone by using force. It can completely brick your phone forever.
Secondly, if you can hear any sound when connect your phone to USB, then thats mean, that your phone is still in minimal functionality. However, you can give a try to buy a new battery and see, how it goes.
It's better to buy extra battery, than change the whole phone, am I right?
And try to leave your phone without touching it for couple days I think. Maybe your battery somehow has got any fault or it has been faulted when you've force-shutted the phone.
Just give a try and that's all. You can't do anything else, except if you know and you're ready for phone disassembly. If none of my suggested methods will work, then try some other tutorials, you can search for them in XZ category's. I've forgotten how that thread is named, but you can search by some key-words, like : ultimate recovery, back to life, unbrick and etc.,
I hope my information is all correct and helpful, if not, then sorry for disturbation for nothing

My gut tells me that the battery is OK but needs to be recharged. Apparently there is something that will not allow the battery to recharge unless it is removed or drained to zero. I thought I drained it to zero but perhaps not. The other case where the battery was removed and was then able to show a red LED apparently allowed the battery to recycle. That's as far as he got.
In the mean time I'm taking your advise and just letting the phone sit until someone makes a suggestion or I get tired of looking at it.
Thank you for your time and suggestions.
Can you enter the "fastboot" mode (unlocked bootloader) /"flash mode" (locked bootloader) ?
Hold "volume down" button and connect with USB cable to the pc.
So first hold "volume down" button and then connect with USB cable to the pc while holding the "volume down" button. Let go the "volume down" when a green led on your phone appears.
You can still enter the "flash mode" if the green led appears.
Hold "volume up" button and connect with USB cable to the pc.
So first hold "volume up" button and then connect with USB cable to the pc while holding the "volume up" button. Let go the "volume up" when a blue led on your phone appears.
If the blue led appears on your phone you can still enter the "fastboot mode".
There is still hope if the green/blue leds appear on your phone (meaning you can still enter "flash mode" / "fastboot mode".
. But the following question need to be answered:
Has your phone an unlocked bootloader?

Hold "volume down" button and connect with USB cable to the pc.
So first hold "volume down" button and then connect with USB cable to the pc while holding the "volume down" button. Let go the "volume down" when a green led on your phone appears.
You can still enter the "flash mode" if the green led appears.
Hold "volume up" button and connect with USB cable to the pc.

It is HARD Bricked. Unresponsive to all of the above w/o any LED response.
Has your phone an unlocked bootloader?
The phone was purchased from Sony and was factory unlocked. It was running fine until the new update from Sony was installed. I believe the update was related to the OS which is 4.4.4.
Thank you.
