The phone has no development and the new update is a "dont get" everyone is fooled to think it is like an M8 But it not is.
M8s is still working but the new update is a not get. It never used to have these problems. The creators are in bed with the witch.
Apparently the magisk zip will raise the modified software status . At first it also gave the red warning on the splash, but a restore of a nandroid boot image removed that.
I have rolled back to my earlier nandroid backup from the system I had before the late update. Which has restored all but that modified software status flag.
The TWRP 3.0.3.0 img wouldna install said it was too big. Everything else went back to before. No more location disabled message on startup.
Anyone know a way to get back to official software status? Anyone have twrp actually installed (on an m8s)?
I just installed a twrp on the m8s but It is not that perfect. Twice the screen went gray and cant be revived though I did use the reboot menu button after it went gray so it can only be a superficial problem. I then used the fastboot button by guessing and that worked too.
Anyone know why twrp 3.0.2.0 is doing this?

I just got and m8 from Cl, it was cheap and I was told the phone had a software issues so I took the plunge.
The phone seems normal, its pack o apps and you can play with it, then I decided to do a factory restore, but it failed (after the reboot it goes to a error screen showing a phone with and exclamation mark)
I tried the same from hboot, same result..
Tried to unlock bootloader, it appears to work but after boot the phone I still the same (loked and with all the user info intact )
Tried to erase the user accounts, it works, I can do a new setup of the Google account, but after restart the phone goes back to the initial state (user accounts are back)
I am not sure what's going on, but it looks like if the memory was protected and after every reboot it goes back to the original state.
Any suggestions of what to do? I am starting to see of there is any way to get warranty thru htc,
Thanks in advance.
The phone is in 4.4.2, can't take updated (it reboots itself on the process)
The phone with the exclamation point indicates the stock Android system recovery is installed. You could try and install TWRP recovery, at which time you could install a custom ROM. My only other thought is to run the RUU for the latest system update. If that doesn't straighten out your issues, something else is going on. Hit the link below and follow the instructions for the manual system update. This is the non-HK RUU. If you need the RUU for the HK version I can post it, also.

Thanks, I tried to install twrp but it fails, the bootloader is still locked and won't unlock, is there a way to install twrp without unlocking bootloader?
Will give it a try with the RUU, when tried to update thru fastboot it fails, it starts to do all the file checks and it just send you to the "press the power button message" , but no update was perform.
You might give this a try to get your bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed. There is no way around it. You have to unlock the bootloader first before you install TWRP.

Thanks a lot for the help, nothing has work so far, the phone keeps having random reboots and every time it comes back its like it load an old backup, havent been able to do a firmwware upgrade (from android over wifi, fastboot, or windowsPC).
Is there an utility to test hardware? (possibly memory)
thanks
At the end I contacted HTC support and after some test I was told my phone was still under warranty and I got and RMA (great service)....
Thanks a lot for the help...
Hey guys, Im fairly new to this stuff, but I got a question or two, it may take me a day to reply so i'll try to put as much info as posible.
Now recently I received the OTA 4.20 (Lolipop) on my phone, so I flashed my stock recovery to download the OTA, making me reroot my phone.
So my phone is re-rooted (after 2 tries) but now it seems like I cant write to my SD card, so I got fed up and went into TWRP recovery and selected wipe data and restore. (Restore point was before I got lolipop) I try to reboot but it takes me as far as HTC One screen. Next I go to recovery and try a factory reset, says its successful, but it lied to me! Still stuck at HTC One screen. So I flash back to stock recovery to try the factory reset with that, it went for a moment, then tried to boot, getting stuck at HTC one screen again, so once more, I flash TWRP to my phone in attempt to get the recovery back, but now I can't load recovery, or boot. So Im stuck there. Is there any advice to what to do from here? I tried command 'fastboot erase cache' thinking that would do something and reflashing the recovery.img but it's still not working. I hope someone can help me.
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

Good luck
The reason you can't write to your SD card isn't because of lollipop, that was actually added but on kit Kat, but the devs went and added a line of code to a file to allow it again. I am currently running my stock rooted, built from decrypted ruu, originally I wasn't able to but I added that one line of code. I believe all you have to do is flash a stock rooted and SD card write should be enabled. As for not being able to get into recovery or boot at all, boot to bootloader and ruu then flash twrp.
Ok so correct me if im doing something wrong, but I flashed the stock recovery in attempt to factory reset it, it wont work, so I flash TWRP with command line (Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img) And it's 'successful' but it wont load, it will attempt to load but one second in and it goes back to fastboot, how to I move forward from here?
Edit: so idiot me did it again, I was trying to install M7 version into a m8. Resolved, Now I can enter recovery again.
Alright, so now my only problem is now that it wont boot normally, it freezes at HTC one screen. I have access to TWRP recovery, just not sure what to do next from here.

I actually just unlocked my bootloader yesterday, installed TWRP today, and had what I thought was the same. The thing is, let it sit. Mine sat at the HTC ONE screen for what seemed to be between 5 and 10 minutes. I read that it happens in one of these threads.
But I let it sit and it eventually went to "Android is Upgrading" and was loading the apps.

Ok thanks, I'll post back in 20 minutes with an update.
So i've waited about 20 minutes on the HTC one screen, (Still on it as I post this) It is still stuck on it. I dont know if this helps but im able to view my internal and external card via computer cable, but I only see folders, no files of any kind in any of them..
Edit* I WAS able to read it, now I can't.
I GOT IT! I was able to revert to a backup I made. Even though I gotta flash stock again for OTA but F it! I got it working again. Thanks for all your help!
I have a Moto G XT1072. I had unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and rooted it a while ago. I did not install any custom rom.
I was completely unaware of TWRP's lack of support for OTA upgrades, so when my phone notified me that there was an update available, I was like "oh, cool, okay" and downloaded it.
a) The download finished, the phone rebooted and TWRP recovery popped up.
b)"Mh, I guess I have to find the update file and flash it, probably"
c) Of course I didn't find it, so I googled and found out that if I want to install an OTA update I have to flash back the stock recovery and I might lose root. "Not worth it, thanks, maybe when 6.0 comes out"
d) So I rebooted the phone. Boot screen with motorola logo shows up, phone boots normally, I insert my sim card pin, set the alarm for tomorrow morning (6:00 am, fml) and *poof*, phone shuts down and reboots in TWRP.
e) back to point d.
Recap: I downloaded the update but I didn't install it, phone boots normally (I can even go in settings), but after 30 seconds it shuts down and reboots in TWRP. I do not care about the update, I just hope I can avoid re-rooting or even wiping.
I've got the exact same problem as you. Stupid to not have thought this could've happened with TWRP installed. Additional problem is, I have removed everything ''root-related'' (adb, fastboot), because I thought I wouldn't need it anymore. TWRP is obviously still on my mobile, but that's about it. I have already made a backup in TWRP (don't think it will help, because I'm afraid it will backup as boot trap), but who knows if it may help.
Back to the point, I'm a noob with rooting, I don't even know how I've managed to root it in the first place, but I'm stuck with the same problem as you are but without the required tools (at least, that's what I think)...
UPDATE: So my phone finished the backup, I turned it off to charge my battery, I fired it back up after an hour (normal way, not TWRP way), and it all of the sudden works again. It doesn't boot trap anymore and it seems like I'm able to use every function properly again. After those 30 seconds (where it usually rebooted), I now got the message that the installation had failed and that I should try again later. I don't know if there's any logical explanation for this or if this is pure luck, but I'm glad it's working again! I don't know if this will help for you as well ricvail, but I think it's at least worth a shot!
Hello,
So after following the guide on this post, I managed to flash TWRP, but after I tried to flash SuperSU, it wouldn't work because it would fail right after "Extracting ramdisk". Seeing that didn't work I dug around on other forums and stumbled upon this.
And so I backed up my boot, system and data partitions (not the system image though) and flashed SuperSU zip. It led to a bootloop where it wouldn't get past the HTC logo (it would reach the logo, stay there 2 seconds, than reboot). I went into TWRP where I restored the previous backup which, to my surprise (and honestly I don'y really know what happened) the bootloop didn't go away, but had changed (instead of rebooting, it just freezes at the HTC logo).
I messed around trying to flash a stock ROM (from here, more specifically the A56DJ_PRO_DUGL asia zip) but didn't go nowhere, even worse, I managed to lose my backup together with wiping the system partition. And here I am, not knowing where to go next. I don't really understand how the RUUs work (all the suggestions I find online keep talking about the .exe files, which I can't seem to get a hold off) and anything else doesn't seem to be available.
I guess if anyone could guide me through this, that would be great. I'm pretty comfortable with the command line and how things 'kinda' work, so I don't need very thorough explanations, just a few pointers.
Thanks!
Hello all before I describe my issue lemme tell you how I got there.
First of all, new phone, couldn't install pixelexperience and flashing stock android was being a pain with all methods (read not working), only managed to install stock android with pitch black recovery.
After a while it auto updated to android 9 and I started having wifi issues that people told me were android's fault so I waited for an update. Update came but android was unable to install it, giving errors after errors every time it downloaded the update.
My solution to all of this was to flash another rom, either stock or custom, and pray it works. It was scheduled to happen in 2 days, when I had free time.
Today, when trying to change the permission for a text file for an app from read only to write, some random process crashed, and it triggered a crashing cascade, including the settings app, homescreen launcher, etc until the phone restarted and got stuck in TWRP logo screen.
No key press, combination, resets, etc would fix it. So I got into fastboot and tried a few things with no luck. Flash stock rom again and phone seemed to be working.
Magisk manager couldn't install magisk and root the phone so I went into stock recovery/twrp and every time I did it I got a black screen message saying something like this:
"Your phone/system is corrupt and won't boot ever again *evil laugh*. Oh btw, go to this link in another device to cry more"
and the link redirects to a google page with some non-useful info.
So here I am, unable to root, unable to go into recovery, phone boots though. I force-stoped updates for a while, as android 9 wifi issues were terrible, and I don't know how to proceed.
Do I flash a stock image again, a custom one, try another rooting method?
I don't want to brick a 6month old phone, really sucks.
Btw, is there a reliable way to back up everything in the phone ?(not only google stuff, but app configs and files/folders) Long time ago I read something about Titanium backup but never looked into it further and now with this crash that lost me everything I wanna prepare for the future.
Thanks for all the help and for reading my boring story.
Even I am facing same problem.. In my case my phone is rooted and I cnt flash TWRP and I cnt get into fastboot mode.. I alwys endup with black screen..
