My Nexus 5X is loosing battery power before my day is over with. The battery size is only 2600.
I tried looking on the Mophie site but no luck.
Does anyone make a battery case for this phone?
Thx.
Hey there,
Sorry, no-one makes one.
I spent a lot of time on the forums, tried custom kernels, but in the end you can only get maybe 2 hours of usage throughout a day on this phone with brightness turned way down.
With very light use you can make it through a work day and have anywhere from 20-40% left once home (Off charger at 6am, 50% brightness set to auto, About an hour of SOT, music streaming nearly all day via speaker phone (WIFI), occasional texting, sporadic browsing on lunch for 30 min) I've learned to live with it and just put it on the charger when I get home (5:30)
But, I came up with a diy battery pack solution, not quite a battery case, but it does the job. I'll post pictures if you're interested. It uses magnetic tape strips, a 5000mah battery pack, short USB cable with usb-c adapter, a metal mounting plate, and rubber grip tape for stability. It works very well for when I don't want to keep it on the charger and fits nicely in the back pocket. It sits just below the camera and doesn't obstruct it, matches the width of the phone case, it does cover the fingerprint sensor but it's a small sacrifice for the extra battery life. I spent a lot of time on amazon with a measuring tape looking for 4+ star high capacity battery packs the right dimension and with a slim profile. Hope it helps.

Wow, interesting. What about pictures? I would definitely make myself one.

Let me know if this link works, and if you need more pictures or amazon links for the supplies I'll post them on this thread.
*As a new user, I am struggling to link photos or post them here.
@Kypariss sent me message asking to share this link with you, guys:

So I got a 3500mAh Sedio battery a week ago, and so far its been great. With heavy usage it lasts atleast 2 days. But a weird thing happened to me last night...
I set my alarm, and noticed I had 30% battery left. I figured that was more than enough to last through the night, so I didn't plug it in. But in the morning, my phone was dead!
Check out the log:

This graph is showing a 70% drain over 40 hours, which is normal. But what happened between ~2am and ~7am!?!? (Very right of the graph)
The only thing I've done differently was turn the brightness down to very minimum so I could use it in the dark without burning out my eyes. That doesn't seem a likely cause for such a sharp battery drain though. I also made sure that all tasks were closed before sleeping, as I do every night.
Anyone have any thoughts about why this occurred? I certainly hope the battery isn't going bad already!
In my experience of lithium-ion batteries, the voltage drop tends to be non-linear, and can be very difficult to estimate. Because you are using a higher capacity battery than the standard HTC 1300mAh, it doesn't estimate your battery life as accurately. Mainly (I would guess) because the software is profiled to base it on typical voltage curves of the 1300mAh, and not your beastly 3500mAh. Typically with lithium-ion, you'll see a steady linear drop in voltage until some cutoff point, where it then takes an exponential curve down to zero. My guess is that particular voltage is somewhere when your phone thinks it's got about 25% life left. I don't think there is anything wrong with your battery or phone, I would just assume that your phone tends to over estimate slightly.
Another thing to consider is what the temperature at the time was. Temperature tends to affect the output voltage and then the % battery life as a result. If it was warm or cold, this would also skew the values of your battery life. Usually within typical room temperatures you would see no changes, but I don't know, maybe you live in an igloo!
Hope that helps. On that note, how do you like the 3500mAh? 40hrs sounds like a ton of extra juice! It's not too bulky or anything?
Thank you for your reply. What you say does make sense, but its really weird because I've been discharging it to 5% every time now (conditioning it 6 times, this is my 5th time). All the other times it was a steady drop from 30% to 5%, nothing fast like this, at least as far as I can remember. I'll certainly keep an eye on it though. It wasn't fun to wake up and realize I was late for work, haha.
The battery is fantastic. I use my phone all the time, mainly for games and surfing, plus tons of modding. Thought the day I'll receive a handful of texts, use maps once in awhile, and have bluetooth music going for 2 hours a day. On my 1300 battery, I had everything optimized for maximum battery life, and it'd typically be 20% at end of work day.
With this 3500 monster though, it only goes down to 70% at the end of the day. Its super nice. The battery makes the phone larger, sure. I thought it looked really ugly while I was researching the battery, but once I received it its no problem! Not an eye sore; the phone looks pretty much like it was made like that. I don't even notice it, both aesthetically and form wise. Fits in my hand just as well as it did before, plus the larger door protects the camera lens. Win win all around imo!
I ordered a cheap desk stand from eBay, for the galaxy SII and the 4x HD fits perfectly!
I also customised a dock for my car, got fed up with trying to squeeze the phone into a rubbish looking universal mount, then connecting a trailing cable. So I hid the cables hard-wired behind the dash, and dremel'd the dock to shape, bent it with a hot air-gun, clamping it in a vice. Getting the connector to stay in place took a hot glue gun. (leaving a cavity underneath means I can still reach my headlight switch, not that i use it, I leave it set to on 100% of the time on the Volvo, as it makes no difference - the daytime running lights are set up to be the main dipped headlights anyway!)
I think now I've got a working prototype I'll buy another and redo it a bit neater. (The dock is only about £4 from china!) as the plastic has reacted a bit to the heat!
The dock is simply squeezed into the gap in the dash trim, it holds fine.
The phone jiggles a bit and it isn't angled towards the driver quite right, but it's fine, and certainly easier than having to fiddle the phone and charger in every time I get in the car!

look great !!! cool man ^^
I Should add, people have commented on two things - firstly in a crash it's going to fly out very easy and be dangerous (Though surely any cheap phone mount will also! Only something like a Brodit will hold it very securely)
Secondly (and quite worryingly!) Perhaps the charging socket will wear out from sitting wobbling around?
Nice but isn't mobile blocking your air-conditioning channel?
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, but sitting in the flow of air wasn't a big deal for me. Most universal mounts mount onto a vent!
I since removed this! Firstly, the phone wobbles quite a lot - I was worried that the charging socket could get worn out.
Also, in the event of a crash it would fly around quite easily!
I now use a Clingo, but I modified it by screwing the tip of the ball-joint onto a Brodit base, so it's held next to my stereo
Hi, can you please give the url for the dock you bought ?
Thanks.

Wow!! what a creative idea, charging and cooling at the same time. Good job.
@Ben-B can you post the ebay link? looks like a really good idea for us 4x drivers. I assume ANY S2 docks will do right?

I have one like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sync-Charge-Cradle-Dock-Station-Charger-For-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-S3-S4-i9300-i9500-/231021608377?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&var=&hash=item35c9f5fdb9
Though I've now added a shim of card (taped on the back part with black electrical tape) to hold it at just the right angle.
Just to clarify, I'm just talking about desk stands here, the car cradle idea was just me bodging a desk stand, but I don't use that any more.
I doubt a real G S2 car cradle will hold the 4x, the width would have to be the same and I'm sure it's not!
Hi Guys not sure if this has been already posted , Just got around the SITEX 2012 in singapore and found this Battery pack with casing which makes the phone neat , yet not removing the battery cover for that extra juice.. its 48 S$ probably around 35US$ it looks pretty neat , any one tried this ?
sorry for the bad quality pics

Yea people who just do regular music listening a bit of browsing , calls dont need this as the stock battery easily gets throug the day , but may be of use for travellers and heavy gamers,,
Thanks for posting, I have similar on my GSIII LTE from day 1.
Very handy.
I hope it will be available in Europe for the GNII.
How do you get to the s-pen?

A lot of these cases have an extra silo. But it would probably defeat the purpose of the sound and spen detection setting.
I think I'm going to have this phone for awhile so I can wait another couple of weeks for one that has the s-pen slot. I find myself using it at the most random of times.
Not only dose it seen to cover the S pen but also the back speaker.
I bought a second battery from Samsung website with the 50% off code someone posted here. I haven't needed it yet, but on the rear occasion I do it will be a simple solution. For now I just switch them out every few days.
All ,
yes its a bit annoying for removing the Spen but not very difficult for people who rarely use ( i use all the time though ) it covers up the space , however speaker is not compromisd as there is a opening for the speaker , but yes S pen is a bit annoying to remove as you will need to slide the fone out .. this s not a hard case so not a tough job to open the phone up from the case...
Might get one of these if they make a little higher quality product with little lower price. Hate the LED lights, on/off switch, no hole for stylus. Most of these need to be charged separately and are usually less than 1000mah.

yea the LEDs are bit too bright , but I found the battery pretty decent not excellent though they charged my phone fom 49% to 100 % in about 1 hour not sure if it can full 3000 MAH havent tested that , the stylus missing out is defnitely a disadvantage...
I was just about the post this, found it on ebay for 28. But no spen and yes the speaker which is covered up was the deal breaker for me. Guess I'll just wait for Samsung's wireless charging.

I have (well had, untill I dropped and shattered the screen) the T-Mobile version of the Note 2, and last week, was on holidays at Disney etc.. the day started at about 8 am, and then, I'd use it non stop, navigation, web browsing, phone calls... really put the phone to use and by the end of the day, still had citca 35% left - this is the first Android smartphone I've had where I'm comfortable with the battery life. the stock battery is more than man enuff for the phones features.
Anyone find a better charging case than this?
I do a lot of homework comparing specs when shopping for devices, but always forget to consider accessories.
I guess I am also cheap, but spending 75$ + on smartphone holder seems silly. So, like with my GNex it's time to build docks and stands again.
More will come, this time with turbo charging and Qi instead of pogo pins.
This stand was a quickie until I get a chance to do more serious tinkering.
The section base is from an old broken and undersized universal stand
The main bracket is from some IKEA cabinet I cant find link to.
The magnets are neodymium similar to BAC6 BAC6
The rest is random screws & bolts from the junk box.
I still need to cut/drill the bracket to allow for connection of car charger, pics to follow when I get access to tools next week. It holds good on kevlar back especially with the slight support from bracket lip underneath. Finding a good suction surface in the car is another story...
I open the floor to questions.

Thus the home-made in the title.
There are a little bit less than ZERO accesories for sale here in Norway,, and I enjoy tinkering.
If you check out the Galaxy Nexus forum there were many people creating their own cool docks and chargers.
I don't use the phone as a status symbol, so it doesn't bother me.
I won't switch to an iPhone just for the accessories so I gotta make my own.

I respect your stance about status symbols, and I applaud you for taking the time to invent your own car mount. I don't think I would have the patience or capability.

You are right, that would be cool. I wish they would make a screen protector that wraps around the back of the phone and connects into the battery-- the screen protector could be a mini solar panel, and any light the screen sees would be converted in to energy. How about that for an idea?

that's an interesting thought. But the issue with be the solar panel but the circuitry to regulate and control the power. A phone case would be thick enough though. Intergrate seven Qi wireless solar power charging. Boom!
Edit: I used speak to text to write that. You have failed me Google. But I'm not fixing it, figure it out
Nice bit of handy work. How comes you didn't just go for one of those universal type holders? There's plenty available on the market with most shipping to Norway?
Either way, good work on the one you made :good:
Wondering if anyone knows of any decent 3rd party car chargers for automotives?
Try checking out Aliexpress. I have ordered some dash cables and chargers off them and they look pretty good.
Never ordered one myself as this is my first OP device, but from what I've read the Baozu ones do work, and end up cheaper than first party. But with the battery life I'm getting now I'm not even sure if I'm gonna need one, love this thing so far!
If you can get hold of an Oppo VOOC charger, they're literally the same thing (same company, same charging tech), but you'll need a proper dash cable to go with it as Oppo use MicroB still.

That is what I thought, until I took a long road trip.
With the phone doing navigation, music streaming AND providing a WiFi hotspot, the battery was draining faster than my regular charger could keep up. At the end of an 8 hour drive the battery was empty (it started full).
I bought one on Amazon and it works great.

Pretty sure that shouldn't happen with any good charger. I feel like you probably had a cheapo that was only pushing like 0.5A or something.

Normally, I would agree with you, as it sounds improbable that a phone could continuously draw more power than a charger provides over a prolonged period, but as I say, it definitely happened. I was using a good quality Anker 2.4 Amp charger (amazon SKU B00D82O68Y), though it is possible that my phone (a OnePlus 3) had not correctly detected it and gone into some sort of trickle charge mode.
I think it was the WiFi hot spot that made the difference. I routinely drive alone with my phone doing both navigation and music streaming, but on this occasion I had three other people in the car using their tablets to surf the internet. Another possible factor is that there was bright sunshine, so the automatic screen brightness would have gone to maximum.
Anyway, I have ordered one of the non branded dash chargers from Ali-Express. I will report back with it's performance when it arrives.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Active GPS + Screen + hotspot + (presumably) bluetooth = a ****-ton of energy consumption. I'm not amazed it would fail to keep up with that.
