If you install Google voice app I think it gives you a notification... for me .. it sends me an email, a text message and the google voice app notifies me
Kind of redundant but well is cool

yep the google voice app works REALLY well on these phones and does provide notifications for google voice events. it also gives you the option so that when you make an outgoing call it asks you if you wanna use google voice or regular number which comes in handy. Highly recommended that you download it if you have GV
I have it installed but i figured i could just shut off the freq check by google voice to some high number so it doesnt affect the battery. And just set a notification for the text message i get.
Yea it is awesome, can't wait until they release it for another languages .. I Laugh so hard when someone leaves me voice mail in Spanish, it translates to this

I went to google.com/voice from my computer and from there you can turn off the email and text notifications so that you only get a notification from the google voice app.

It's not just spanish. My english translations are mindboggling, to say the least. This was one from the HR director from a cell phone company, calling re: a job offer they put out to me.
Jordan, this is why I found. Again, sorry to. I just noticed that it. It appears that you didn't Memphis celery. You should be able to see it in email. Give me a call. Let me know that you are able to complete that progress. My number is (redacted). Thank shoes.
great idea to start this thread. installed gv and all setup. regarding the notifications: set gv to notify via SMS 'cause don't want an email. From a battery perspective and quickest notification is it best to let the notification only come to gv app or is SMS quicker? Just want one notifcation as soon as there's a message. Thxs

basically they are both at the same time
DesktopSMS forwards all your incoming SMS on your *Android Phone* to your Gmail to GTalk.
You can then reply to the chat request or email, and the response will be sent back from your phone as a text message. This is very similar to Google Voice, except you won't need a new number or anything annoying like that!
http://app.net/desktopsms
Installation:
1) Install DesktopSMS on your ANDROID PHONE. (Not onto your XOOM)
2) Login to Desktop SMS on your ANDROID ****PHONE****.
3) Install a Chat client like Google Talk (which may already be on your XOOM) onto your XOOM or desktop PC.
4) Receive a text. Watch as your text gets converted to an email and google chat message
5) Respond!
So, once again, this app is only installed on your phone. Then just install your favorite IM client on your desktop and tablet, and the rest will work magically!
You do not need to install this on both your phone and tablet like other apps. You do not need to be on the same network like other apps. This all works by magic (my servers).
Let me know what you think. This is in a free beta right now, so be prepared for some bugs! I'd love to hear your feedback.
Wrote you a PM
well, I don't have a smart phone so thats a problem.
I, like many others, have ditched their smartphomes and activated their xooms. I now only have a dummy phone. I didn't see a need in paying for two data plans because I ws rarey using my phone. Now I use it to talk and text.... even though I wish it was only to talk.
I am waiting for the day that I can SMS on my Xoom using my current phone number. Guess I'll jabe to keep waiting. lol
Works awesome...just had a conversation with myself, through gtalk. Hahaha havnt tried it with my xoom yet. But im pretty sure it will work just fine. Very good job
It looks great but I cannot seem to get it to work yet, Mr. Koush. I have it signed it with push notifications successfully on my gmail account on my OG Droid. I can do the test message from within the app and it pops up on my phone like always, but other than that it does nothing on my Xoom, or on anything else for that matter. It seems almost like the push notifications are not even being sent out.
EDIT: I found out what the problem was. I had the default messaging app totally disabled, as I am using Handcent SMS as a complete replacement to the default one. I would like to use Handcent SMS instead of the default one. I know its beta and I cannot wait for updates!

I had that same "issue" so thanks for posting the solution. User error as usual
Is there a way to make the contact name show up or will we need to add these email addresses to our contacts? Thanks and awesome job!

It looks like after you receive your first text from that person after you accepted the "chat invite" on your Gtalk account it syncs up with your current contact list automatically. It shows the phone number on the left side of the screen under your gmail account, but in the chat window it shows that contacts name in parenthesis.
This ofcourse is for if you are using the Xoom with Gtalk, such as myself. I haven't tried anything else yet.
Could it be that the contacts NAME will be in the gtalk LIST instead of phonenumber ?
OK, being a bit thick here.
I'm using GoSMS Pro, but as far as I know, the default messaging app is still active, just without any notifications... does this make a difference?
Not currently receiving any notifications in email or g-talk... :/

*edit* update took care of it, never mind.
@Koush
I am having an issue getting the app to try it out. When I tell the system to send me a link, it does, but it sends me a link for the link request page again. It does not send me a link to the actual app.
EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. Shouldn't browse until I had my coffee.

Is it possible that your push servers are blocked in China?
I can correctly Login with Google Account, but get an error on 'registering with push server....' (takes long and eventually times out)
Error message: "Login failed. Please check your password. If the error persists, please send a log to the developer"
here is a log... maybe it helps analyze why i can't connect with the push servers...
Ok, it's just updated, and when I go to send a test SMS, it brings up
The application GoSMS was found installed. If you do not recieve a text message, please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings.

So that's cool, then I send the test. GoSMS then pops up the text, as it always does.
However, it still doesn't appear to be sending me an email.
When it says "please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings", does it mean the default Messaging app?
I've tested by disabling the taskbar notification for GoSMS and re-enabling it for the default Messaging app, but even then, there is no sound nor visual cue that an SMS has arrived... is this why it's not working? Has GoSMS broken my default messaging app?

So I say "text..." and Google now prepares my message but still makes me hit "send message" on the screen. I just want it to send without me touching it help?
Sent from my XT1056 using Tapatalk 2
I don't think there is a way, the fault is on Google now and not touchless controls. I was a little bummed about this to, with my sgs3 I was able to send texts through voice command and say "send"... Though, vice command was pretty useless on it, if I wanted to text anything longer than 4 words it would take me 10 tries to get it right... At least with the moto x, it gets it deadnuts 99% of the time. For now, I'll take the trade off of having to do one click and it actually working. Hopefully some day it will work the exact way that we want it... Until then, I am content.

Semi-related but didn't want to start another thread about touchless control.
When using touchless control to send a text, I assume that because it is being routed through GoogleNow, the actual text that is sent out doesn't save in the proper threaded message history? Is there a setting or a way to keep the text in a running conversation?
I'm on Sprint stock.
Mine gets added to existing text conversions... Though, I haven't used it since I updated to hangouts 2.0 and I think there may be a bug when using hangouts as default SMS.

it's not every time.. id say a good half of them don't show up.

the commands are being ran by different things. Don't know which one is putting it in the thread and which one isn't. But from the moto site, it says that moto trys to run any command you say into google now, if it recognizes it, it acts on it, if it doesn't recognize it, it sends it to google now to recognize it. Basically, even though it looks like google now is the app running, after you say something, moto trys to recognize the voice command. So sometimes moto recognizes it and sends the text itself, sometimes it doesn't and sends it to google services that then sends the text. You can try saying like send text message instead and see if that always sends it to google or always sends it to moto. Like i said, idk which system is the one that is showing the text correctly, but if it is google, then saying something that moto won't recognize but google will should solve your problem. If it is moto that is running the command correctly, than i guess you just have to be extremely clear when saying "text" for moto to pick it up.

I originally had the same experience; however, this behaviour _just_ changed for me over the past couple of days. As of today, when I ask Google Now to send a text, it performs all steps (from beginning to send the text to actually sending the text) via voice prompts. I assume that this is thanks to the recent updates that have been sent out over the past couple of days. Regardless, WHOO HOO!
Ok folks,
I have my new Samsung Gear Live and its paired to my HTC One M7
Although I'm sure that I should be able to reply to SMS messages, the option is not available.
I can say "OK Google" "text fred bloggs" from the home screen and that works.
Do you think the limitation is something to do with HTC's SMS client?
Rik
I have the Live w/HTC One M8.
I'm inclined to believe that the reason my replies work is because I have (just started) SMS texting via Hangouts. I only switched from my normal texting client because I knew that the Wear watches would work out of the box w/Hangouts.
That said, Hangouts is a pretty lousy texting app, but I like that it's baked into Wear.

Ok so I don't have my Gear live yet (is on the truck out for delivery), however I asked a similar question and for what I understand you won;t be able to replay to the SMS until the App is updated with the new API to support that. I believe the only one that currently support that is Google own's "Hangouts".
On Google's promotional video for Android Wear, where the guy is on the bus, he gets a text message and says, "reply - be there in 2" and the message is sent.
That does not seem to work but you can make a swipe until you get a "reply" screen that enables you to speak a reply.
Thanks for the info chaps.
I don't even have the swipe across to reply option - all I get is the open on phone option
The reply by voice is one of the key things I was hoping for.
Naughty Google promo's grrrrrr.
Oh well - I suppose we are the beta testers
Same issue here with Gear Live and HTC One M7. I can "Open on phone" when I receive an SMS, but no reply options. Assuming this is a limitation of the HTC Messaging client not being "Wear-aware".... although FWIW I can reply to SMS natively on my M7 via Google Glass, which is essentially using the same set of APIs as far as I know.
So I switched (grudgingly) to Hangouts as my SMS client and all works fine. (Interestingly, the HTC SMS client as well as Google Voice continue to stay synched with Hangouts in the background, so I can still use the GV app or Web interface from other devices.)

no i think it needs to support android wear specifically. hangouts and evolve both do as of right now, i'd imagine most of the big apps will follow suit sooner rather than later since they stated that it was minimal amount of code that needed to be added in

if the sms app you use don't support wear, i'd get in contact with the devs, it's almost a trivial amount of coding that needs to be done to support wear!

i wonder if will be updated with wear support since google uses hangouts now and i don't see them adding wear support to aosp apps that they have essentially abandoned.
maybe see if the 8sms devs can add support since it's very similar to aosp messaging?

What app? Apps need to be updated to trigger voice input from Wear notifications, so it might be opening the "reply" screen on your phone. If not, I have no idea.

The stock text message app on the Samsung Galalxy S5
I'm using Hangouts on an N5, but anytime that I try to send a message, it defaults to SMS (through Hangouts) instead of a chat message, which is what I want. Even if I'm replying to a chat that someone just sent me, it tries to send it as an SMS. Quite annoying.

that won't work until samsung updates their apps to include wear support.
as of right now the only apps i know of are evolve sms and hangouts
when i initially received my watch, I added most of the apps to my G2. I'm using contacts+ for SMS which has wear compatibility. works fine for verbal replies from the watch.
I know when I get a new message (whatsapp, text, etc) it always shows the name of the person sending it to me. Does anyone know a way for it to show the app name instead? For instance, if I get a new facebook notification, my watch will show "Facebook" on the bottom of the screen (when watch is on always-on mode and I'm not actively using it). If I get a whatsapp message, it shows the name of the person instead of "Whatsapp". The reason I ask is because I have always-on turned on, everyone who sees my watch face, will be able to see the name of the person who messaged me (hence my need for privacy). Does anyone know how I can do this?
Thanks!
