(UPDATE: I managed to talk to another person at Verizon who was able somehow to go ahead and make the tablet available for me. I got the $30 pay-as-you-go plan activated a short time later. I'd still like to know about switching carriers on this, just in case a better deal comes along from Sprint or MetroPCS)
I have an sch-i800 galaxy tab running Gingerbread 2.3.5. It was purchased off Craigslist. When I tried to purchase a monthly data plan from Verizon, I found out that he wasn't the original owner of the device. I can't activate it on Verizon because the original owner never dropped it from his plan (it's a 2-year contract tablet). I contacted Verizon's customer service who then contacted the original owner, who apparently claims that it's stolen, though I made it clear to Verizon that he could contact me if that were the case and I'd be happy to give it back to him and go to the police. According to the girl at Verizon, he declined, but wouldn't say why. She told me I can wait until he cancels his Verizon account and try to activate service then, but I have no idea when or if that will ever happen.
I want to change carriers on the phone to MetroPCS or Sprint. I just don't know what I need to do to make it happen. I already have the device rooted. I only need to know whether I can change carriers (Sprint or MetroPCS) and what steps to take to make it compatible with them. I have some limited knowledge of using Heimdall to flash, I have busybox and CWM and all of that. Thanks for any advice.
Hi, I want to get the Nexus 6 unlocked model before 12/25 and I can't buy it from the Play Store because they don't accept international credit cards and I don't live in the US, I've tried Motorola but they never have phones in stock, I've tried to get information on when will they get stock by chatting with several Motorola representatives but none of them have gave me information about that, and I don't want to spend $700+ on a page like Amazon or eBay, what can I do to buy and get the phone before 12/25?

welcome! I suggest you add to Santa's list.
Lots of folks with the $700+ in hand can't even lay hands on a device. Not even from those sites you are running away from.
Out of a unicorn's rear end. Seriously, they're that understocked. If you aren't in the US, your only options are Play store, carriers and Ebay (and it's like). Since the play store is out, and Moto isn't selling them directly outside the US, your only options are to get one before Christmas is to hope you luck out and can get one from a carrier, or suck it up and go on Ebay.

Actually I can ship the phone in the US, the problem is that Play Store or Motorola accept a international credit card! Think there is a way to buy it from the Play Store with that credit card or that Motorola gets stock and ships it before Christmas?
If you are actually in the US, try seeing if you can snatch one up from carriers? Or consider maybe getting a US credit card? If they don't take international credit cards then there's really nothing you can do on that front. Unfortunately Google has a lot of restrictions by region and there isn't really any effective way to circumvent it.
You could try swappa, but the price are higher. I sold one on swappa last thursday late night, i shipped it friday via priority and it arrived yesterday, thats more faster than GPS or motorola

Yeah, I've already looked over there but that's where the $700+ becomes a problem, maybe I would try over there later, thanks! :good:
Hey guys -- I'm currently on the hunt for a Nexus 6. An uncle of mine is in Miami at the moment and he's buying me one.
Thing is, he's not too technology-literate. So I'm trying to guide him. Anyone knows where I could tell him to buy me a phone? It's also to be used in Europe (is that fine? I believe the N6 is unlocked so it should work, right?).
If anyone could help out, I'd appreciate it. I've called 2 T-Mobiles (the ones their online support suggested) and both were out of stock. I also have a MAJOR preference for the Cloud White one. I really need help locating a specific place that has the phone in stock right now.
Thanks in advance.
there are two versions of nexus 6, us version and all other countries version. in the united states, they only sell the us version. you can buy it at selected tmobile locations, or selected sprint locations. or you can order over the phone from tmobile, and have it sent to you via ups.
If you're looking for a Cloud White one at a physical brick and mortar store. Good luck with that, most stores offer only Midnight Blue. You can find Cloud White only online at Motorola or Google Play Store and you'll have to wait for your order to be shipped.
Inventory of N6 can't meet the demand as of right now. Pretty much buying a N6 means you're on a queue, unless you get it from a carrier but even then with a carrier, it can be a queue.

Dang, that's a shame. I mean, I could settle for a Midnight Blue one, I suppose. But from what you've said, that seems hard to get as well. Thing is, I'm not in the US, and calls to stores cost me a ton. What I really wanted was someone who heard or knows that there's availability in a certain store, so I can have my uncle go there and buy one.
I guess that's a bit too much to ask online, but I'm pretty desperate to get my hands on some Google.
You can check best buy stores, they have online inventory listings. Just have to put in the zip code of wherever your uncle is
Edit: these will of course be carrier branded phones (AT&T or Sprint) unlocked version has to be straight from Google or Motorola I believe

The AT&T model can be unlocked, and they have the midnight blue ones in stock. Is that an option for you?

As simms22 mentioned in an earlier post, there are two variants of the Nexus 6.
XT1103 is the model for the Americas and XT1100 is the global model for the rest of the world (including Europe).
As far as I understand, the main difference is that each model supports different network bands.
More info: http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/nexus-6-header/Nexus-6/nexus-6-motorola-us.html#nexus-6-specs
To be on the safe side, I'd check that that the US variant of the N6 supports the GSM/WCDMA/LTE bands of your network provider before purchasing it.
I did see that Miami is one of the few markets that T-Mobile actually stocks the N6 in store, so maybe call a couple more. Also, if you're okay with the 32GB midnight blue, you can have them order it and overnighted. I ordered mine on Tuesday and got it yesterday.

US Cellular has both CW and Blue so you might want to give them a call.
Im sorry if this has been asked, i tried searching. Does anybody know if there is any way to figure out where the nexus 6 comes from? I.e google play store or motorola or a carrier...
They're all the same phone
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
same device yes, however im told that the nexus 6 phones from the google play store are the only ones with IMEI's listed in verizons system.
i understand all of the walk arounds to get any of the different variants of the device to work on verizon... Just want the smoothest transition possible.
i guess imei might be only way

I too am curious about this being "all the same phones" I called Best Buy told them my I am a Verizon sob story and how I will never get the phone. So I wanted to go in and buy one out right from another carrier. they told me no dice. They said that the phones they get are sim locked to the specific carrier and that my sim would not work. Is there any truth to that or are these phones no matter if its bought from Moto, GPS or Best Buy guaranteed to work on the Big Red Machine?
I havent had much experience with BestBuy mobile personally, however from what ive read/heard.. nexus 6 devices purchased anywhere but google play store would have IMEI numbers that fall out of range of verizons system. They come up as device not recognized, now of course you can take an active nano sim and put it into the device and it will work .. it just will show up as unknown device according to verizon. It just seems to me, personally.. easiest way to get one of these to work is to have a nexus 6 from google play store.
Course, i guess all in all.... i dont really care what the phone shows up as in verizons system, just so long as it works properly... just would make me feel better if the device im using actually showed up as the device. There are a few of the devices listed on swappa for pretty reasonable now.

Thats the thing. According to their site, they make some available on Wednesday's. Id assume you have to be at the website right at 1159pm tuesday night to see if any become available, id say they sell out almost instantly. I think ive found a didifference in the actual model code printed on the box, below the XT1103 that may help. I have a Google play edition purchased through swappa.com, model 00643NAGPE. Id assume the last 3 digits GPE might stand for google play edition? Subsequently, ive seen devices from motorola be model 00643NARTL perhaps the RTL somehow denotes motorola? Either way it would seem, this particular code is what ties the device to where it actually came from.

11:59 what time zone? Ive questioned this since i have been staying up til midnight pressing refresh!! Lol. I think i need a 12 step program!
None of the IMEI will show up in Verizon systems. Doesn't matter where you buy it from, the phone will show up as unknown device on Verizon. But it will work as long as you have a Verizon nano SIM, or cut your SIM down.
There are posts with people buying direct from Google, Motorola, TMobile, Best Buy and Amazon with no issue. The Amazon or Best Buy ones were Sprint Models, I think AT&T are locked.
Motorola had them all available yesterday again. Just keep checking they pop up all of the time. I stumbled upon it when checking the order status of my wife's Moto X. I bought mine from Moto back I'm early November and I've seen them appear more on motos site than Google play.

not midnight. Past practice shows that Google Play sales have started right around 1:00PM eastern (adjust for your local time zone).

interesting information, thank you I never knew that before. Perhaps I had read/was given wrong information about the IMEI's of the devices then. I have a brand new Nexus 6 from the play store on its way, purchased through swappa. I guess we will see how hard of a time I have with activation. I have a spare nano sim used within the last 30 days (out of an iphone 6 plus) however, my current device is a galaxy s4. Be an interesting conversation with whatever rep i get on the phone to activate the nexus 6.
I intend to purchase the Nexus 6, Midnight Blue, 32 GB at full retail price and maintain my unlimited data plan on Verizon. Does it matter where I purchase the phone? What should I keep in mind?
Google Store
Motorola.com
Verizon Wireless
Best Buy
Amazon
You will be able to keep your unlimited data, and since the nexus only comes in two models (international and US) any one you purchase from a us seller will work. I'm even rocking an AT&T nexus on Verizon as we speak.

Noted. Verizon dislikes non-VZW devices. The phone will work, but they may choose not to honor any discounts.
Are there any drawbacks to purchasing from Verizon?

I purchased my white 64gb Nexus 6 through Google to be able to keep my unlimited plan as well. The device does show up as a non vzw device though. It's easy to make changes to the plan if you're adding (meaning more money for them) but to removing options (less money for them) is where it gets tricky. Really in my opinion it just depends on the rep you talk to. Long story short, about two weeks ago I called to add international calling to my plan, the rep offered me a plan they no longer have. When I realized she added the wrong plan I called back and the guy said he couldn't remove the options that were added and needed to submit a ticket and I would receive a call back when it's all taken care of. After a week of hearing nothing I called back and was talking to a guy who was really helpful. He removed and changes that were made to my account, but did say that having the Nexus 6 come up as a non vzw device made it a little tricky to remove the options but nothing that couldn't be done.
I have unlimited data on VZW, and I bought 64gb blue off Play Store. I didn't want any tie to VZW because when my invite for Google FI comes, I just may go that route.
I went into company-owned store (not a retailer) for new SIM card. Was a bit of a "hassle" insofar as all the reps were all clueless as to how to give me a SIM card when the device ID was not in their database. They tried to shuffle me off to customer service, but I made them call customer service with me in the store. The tech support rep went into the same bootloop (can't give you a card and get the device registered if the device id is not in the database) but eventually, they figured out they just needed to insert SIM card and it would activate itself. I found I had to be pleasant but assertive to get it done, as they seemed to be unwilling to just hand over a SIM card, which is all they needed to do.

You were lucky that you found some reasonable reps to deal with. Many VZW representatives will flat out refuse to give you a SIM if the IMEI is not in their system.

It looked like it was heading that way, but I was assertive in saying that I know it could be done and that is when we got the phone to tech support. I suggested we use the SIM card they had in front of me and ask tech support to get it going while I was in the store, and eventually it all worked out after the tier 1 tech support guy took the initiative to look some things up.
Point is, be polite but firm, don't take "no" for an answer. There is a difference in software (although what, I don't know, but I didn't want anything other than pure google on my phone), so it was worth the minor hassle to me.
