Any of you experiencing random rebooting of your S8 lately? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

My S8 T-Mobile version has all of a sudden began randomly rebooting itself out of nowhere and quite frequenyly throughout the day. This never happened until last evening on my S8. It was working fine never rebooted on its own before last evening. I have the latest "Red Tint Fix" update applied a few days ago and wonder if the update did something to cause this to start happening. There is a thread already discussing the random reboots happening to many users on the General S8 Q&A forums already... but I am posting this notice here for more awareness and feedback on if other T-Mobile users are having this happen to their new S8 or S8+ phones too. I am planning on contacting Samsung and reporting this issue and asking for a new replacement phone if they cannot fix it with another update. Plus their red tint fix update did nothing to remove the pink tint on the left and right edges of my S8.

No reboots at all, never and I would know because after reboot need to type code, no other unlocking works for the first time and I have all updates. If I had something similar, first I would force close all the programs I installed at the time the problem started. I would also clear the cache, all the junk and finally full reset. I wouldn't judge how wide spread the problem is by number of posts here: People usually come here to post when they have a problem and they usually make multiple posts.

Okay, yesterday I removed a weather app that I had installed the day that the reboots started happening and today I've not had any random reboots. So far so good. I think the random reboots reboots were caused by the app. My micro SD card was checked out as fine and not the cause. So I Ann hopeful now.

[Q] Have HTC been sneaking out bug fixes?

I probably have my head in a very dark place BUT... I used to suffer from the garbled screen and random reboot problems every 2 or 3 days, never bothered me much, but hey, it shouldn't happen right! Anyway, about a week ago, downloaded a connection setup app update from HTC via the market place and for the last 7 days, the phone has been perfectly (and I mean perfectly) stable, no reboots, no garbled screen, no lock ups, no market place lockups (only used that a couple of times mind). Got to wondering what might be in these app updates, are we getting silent fixes for known bugs?

Random reboot

Has anyone else had this happen? Mine did and there's a big gap in my battery usage. I'm singing l assuming this will get fixed when they post the factory images considering the N9 has had 4 updates so far.

Happened today while I was on youtube, so far only once. What do you mean of big gap in my battery usage? Did the battery % decreased after the reboot or are you referring to the battery usage graph? On mine the usage graph restarted but the battery % was a continuation..

Yes it did here's a screen shot I took. I had a brief one earlier but this one was worse.
Phone rebooted today when i received a video message in hangouts.
Mine now does this weird thing where it opens random apps to the setting menu that has the option to force stop, disable and uninstall and keeps flashing and switching between them. I haven't unlocked the BL yet or done anything to the phone, I think its a software bug and hopefully google will release an update soon.
Edit: the random weird thing described above was caused by Greenify so I uninstalled it.

I've had a couple more, I called Google today and made a trouble ticket to see if they are pushing out an updated build for us. I awaiting their response, but I'm certain they will fix this with an update.
Well it looks i got a lemon, its rebooting every 2 minutes, anyone knows google contact info for RMA?
Mine just started doing this. It happend twice the other day and I thought I did something, but just now while I was surfing the net on my computer with my Nexus 6 right beside me it rebooted for no reason.
Mine hasn't done it since I posted last. My Nexus 9 had the same bug so maybe its an app causing the system reboot.
I was just sitting on the couch 20 minutes ago, with both my Note 4 and N6 sitting next to me. I wasn't using either, but almost in unison, they both randomly restarted.

It's the aliens!
i get them a few times daily as well. usually it happens much quicker if i disable mpdecision, and use the ondemand governor. if i dont change anything, then i might make it through the day without a reboot. oh, and 99% of all my reboots happen when im using the browser. and the odd thing is, no last_kmsg gets produced.
I had two reboots an hour after I activated the phone on T-Mobile for no apparent reason. Went into network settings and changed from Global to LTE and the reboots never happened again
I changed mine from Global to LTE a week ago once I activated it yet mine has rebooted at least 3 times. I did notice that the last time was after I used wireless charging. I'm wondering if maybe the heat caused it to reboot.
Also happening to me (32gb blue, Bell Mobility Canada) ...has anyone tried factory resetting the device?

I also just picked one up from Bell (32GB Blue) today and had a random reboot while the phone was sitting on my desk idle. This was moments after tons of updates from the Play store. I read in some threads that doing a factory reset didn't work for most.
I also got a 15MB system update, on stock build LRX21O. Hope this isn't caused by hardware!
Edit: Just sent a text using "Textra", 2 mins later a random reboot occurred...

So I just had another one immediately after opening and closing the Messenger App (I stopped using hangouts) ... funny enough, same thing happened yesterday right after I closed the messenger app ... going to go back to hangouts as default and disable the messenger app to see if that helps
Was hoping the 5.0.1 update would fix this problem, but I'm still getting random reboots and shut downs, at least once a day.
my reboots are cured. the ondemand governor is broken in stock, and aosp, and has been the cause of the reboots. as soon as the developer of lean kernel fixed the ondemand, no more reboots using lean kernel

[Question] Nexus 6 randomly reboots, sometimes power button doesnt work

I am checking to see if other people see this on there Nexus 6.
I get random reboots, like once every 2-3days I would say. (Is this Memory Leak?)
Also sometimes I cannot unlock with power button, it will stay black screen. Here sometimes it reboots, sometimes if I wait 10-20secs it works again.
I am wondering whether to return it for another one.
Actually I never faced with my device. And currently my device's Up Time is about 180 hrs. Running last 7 days without any problem.
Go to this link and look near the bottom of the page. Paul, from Google, is reporting that 5.1 should "reduce unexpected reboots." Hope that means they have fixed it and they just used the word "reduce" instead of fix because of the fact that any phone might reboot given the right set of circumstances. Hopefully, persisting reboots will finally be fixed. If you read the entire thread (very long) you will see that many people have reported random reboots and they have experienced them under different circumstances. I'd like to know if they've found what is triggering the repeated reboots for everyone---only time will tell. Some have exchanged their phone for another and had success. Quite a few others have reported receiving 1, 2, or even 3 different replacements and still experiencing reboot problems. Don't know what the answer is. I'm just sitting back observing, waiting to see if it gets resolved before purchasing the N6. If I don't see a satisfactory resolution, then I probably won't get one, even though, before it was released, it sounded like the just the phone I wanted.

I have the same problem on my T-Mobile Nexus 6. 2 reboots in the past 24 hours. It occurs randomly too. I just got the phone like 3 days ago so I'm hoping that 5.1 will fix this issue. Next to the reboots I haven't had any issues with the phone. It pretty badass actually. I switched from the Note 4.
Thanks for the feedback! I really like the phone no way I will get rid of it for this issue. Its just annoying as nexus 5 I didn't. Have any issue like this but I guess KitKat was a more stable than LP.
I will await 5.1 which sound imminent

Random Reboots

Anyone else suffering random reboots? I have got my Note 8 N950F for a few days now and sadly have to notice that I see random reboots from time to time. Sometimes I saw the Samsung boot logo, sometimes i noticed it because I hat to enter my PIN after reboot. For now it seems to happen once or twice a day. Quite annoying.

Rogue app?
Sounds like something installed is not agreeing with your device. Usually thins can get tangled up when you do a restore from an old back up for example.
Did you have an older model note device that you restored form perhaps?
I'm using a T-Mobile variant ands no such issues.
As an aside, there is an option in the phone (you may already know this) that will restart the phone at a setting you setup.
Maybe also try clearing cache on your device?
Did you disable a lot of stuff with a package disabler?
A couple of mornings now I've woken and my phone asks for a password because it restarted overnight. I haven't experienced a crash or reboot yet, but something seems to be happening overnight.

No, nothing. Software was installed by transfer via Google account from Note4 with Lineage OS.

Do you have Substratum installed? I installed Swift Dark and noticed what I call mini reboot, phone would lock up for a second and just the carrier label came on and everything was fine again. Was using the S8 for my Substratum setting and I guess the Note 8 isn't compatible yet. Uninstalled most of the layers and haven't had a reboot since.

Ive seen people that posted having random reboots being that they transferred a backup to the new device.
There's something to be said in a fresh manual install into a new machine with new guts and firmware/builds....
My Note 8 just randomly rebooted itself this morning for the first time. I have had my phone since September 7th. After the reboot it has been fine but shortly before it rebooted it quit functioning altogether. I think I will go in and clear the cache when I get to work.

Its a system wide ad-blocking app that does not require root
My note 8 n950u1 has rebooted multiple times, but not in one day. It has restarted for the third time (ever) this morning. The first time was Gmail, second was Facebook, and this third time was Gmail again. My best guess is it might be a ram glitch because it seemed to happen when the app was trying to do a lot. Now, I have no idea if this is true, but it is my best guess. At first I thought it might be because of the snapdragon but seeing how others on an f varient with the exynos chips are rebooting too, that theory is shut down.
Could be apps like others pointed out. 2nd option the battery? But due to how new this phone is, I doubt that. In my past phones it was old bad batteries.
Not a single random reboot since day one, I got my note 8 on 22 Nov 2017, I dont use substratum or adhell, but I installed bk disabler and blocked all bixby, microsoft, google music, video, books, all carrier trash, almost all samsung stuff in "bloatware section", also disabled many services in a lot of apps, I am running naptime, greenify and hibernator, so far, all working fine
SM-N950F here same problem.
Mine ended up random rebooting four times from Sept 7 through about Feb 1. Then about two weeks ago, it completely froze, then decided the port was wet and wouldnt charge at all (port wasn't wet). tried a few things, then did a factory reset, where it actually rebooted probably 20-22 times (well, during the reboot process, the black screen with Samsung flashed probably 20 times).
Needless to say, I talked with Samsung and then TMobile. Got a replacement and it's been great since.
Can't believe it's now been over 5 months since I first got my Note 8. Even counting the replacement, I still LOVE this phone.

Thanks for the update, please keep us up to date even if you continue to have no problems under Oreo. BTW, I have the exact same problem (using N9500 dual SIM with Samsung processor as opposed to Qualcomm) as you but do not have Oreo available yet. I'm getting the restart message every few days and its always after the phone has been idle, usually overnight. Its asking for a PIN due to restart as I use face recognition. Also I transferred over data from a Note 3. Want to ask you, did you try to wipe the phone completely as a solution to the restart problem (before Oreo became available)?
Thanks so much in advance!
I am still waiting for oreo OTA, but after almost 5 months, I have not had a single random reboot or freezing, even though I have a bunch of stuff disabled

Is Anyone's Note 9 powering off when you turn the screen off?

Hey there everyone,
Yesterday my phone started to have this odd issue where randomly the phone will actually die when I hit the power button to put the phone in standby. There's no errors, lights, or anything to go off... I have already re-formatted the phone, I saw another thread about taking the SD card out (which I've done with no luck) and the Andriod auto reboot setting is not on.
Now here's the kicker... I purchased the phone new from Amazon. However, because the phone is from Hong Kong and I live in Canada. Samsung won't service the phone. I'm not sure what else to do here... Is anyone else having this issue?

Can confirm your Problem with random Reboots as you described. Was horrible with last Updates but with CSDE things getting better i guess. I sent Samsung many Times reports with this Problem and they said this will be fixed. So with CSDE i had no reboot so far.

Sorry, whats CSDE? I've also found some articles on Samsung's support page where people are having the same issue... Over there the overwhelming remedy appears to be to disable the Fingerprint Sensor... I have just re-flashed the phone with Odin to see if this fixes anything before disabling the Fingerprint Sensor. I would hate to lose it, but I have no other choice with Samsung's disgusting policy on not fixing their international phones.
I kid you not, Samsung support advised me to board a plane to Hong Kong to visit a center....
Did you boot it?
mine works fine. 1
Disable Fingerprint unlock in settings.
This is an ongoing issue that I've been trying to raise awareness of and is occurring across both S9s and the note 9.
I believe it be a software issue since it began shortly after one UI update, but there are reports that replacing the FP sensor solves the issue.
I have been using my Note 9 without FP unlock for a little over a month now, and once you get used to intelligent scan only, its not that bad. You will still be able to use FP in apps and such without a problem.
Post everywhere you can and lets hope we can attract enough attention for a official Samsung response.

CSDE is the actual Buildstring for our Note 9, means the actual Software Update Mai. That's the first time i heard abbout that issue with the Fingerprintsensor. If this is true, this is a hardly big problem. But as i said so far, with CSDE the Problem is gone for my device. Had no random reboot so far, and in the meantime, i must have between 4 & 5 random reboots normaly. But thats not the case, so i guess they are working on it or just fixed it with CSDE.
I hope Samung fix that, if this case is a Hardwareproblem or Manufacturproblem whatever. Mean that they have to replace it for 0 cost normaly..

Okay so far so good, but i guess this cant be a soloution for us Noteusers that we deactivate a pice of Hardware cause we have random reboots.
Maybe we can all spam Samsung via Samsung Members App with this Problem as i done so many times the last weeks. Dont forget to sent a systemreport with it, so they can check whats going wrong. Had no random reboots so far with new Build, but if it comes back, i report every time it appears.

Sure enough, I went an entire day and this morning it happened again... I have now disabled the Finger Print Sensor and we shall see what happens.
have this same problem... the thing is.. once or twice I got see a popup about one UI stopped responding and the phone restarted... not sure if the FP scanner is causing it.
Try wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode. If that doesn't help, back up your device and perform a hard factory reset.
So till this day no random Reboots..Think they fixed it. Im still on CSDE cause the Mai Update still not Aviable for German dbt
