This problem started on her unrooted Amazon Prime version. What I did was I went ahead and unlocked the bootloader and installed the 7.4.2 OTA without ads as well as rooting it. That actually worked for a few days, but whenever she gets a phone call, the ringing started to be mute once again. She has claimed that she's tried restarting it, but to no avail did this work. How do I fix this infuriating software bug?

Did you try changing changing the ringtone. Blu usually is fussy when it come to ringtones,. Just reset phone and stick to default ringtone for while to see if it helps
At the time we had tried this, it did not resolve the issue at all.

I just received my galaxy note n7000 back from Samsung service centre after 2 months wait.
However, I noticed the phone speaker does not work somehow. Yesterday, I was able to call and hear notification sounds for a while and then I lost all the sounds from the phone after few hours later. I decided to talk to samsung tech team but when I looked my phone again this morning, it worked perfectly. Everything worked again. However, now I don't hear anything from the phone again. I have no idea what is going on since it worked this morning. I wanted to ask you guys first since I seriously don't want to wait another 2 months to use my phone and I believe it might be related to software bug since the sound worked again. Is there any known issue with that?
if u think it's sw related then flash a stock rom from ur region thru pc Odin.
it might be the volume bug ringer issue, try to simulate by increasing the volume under settings >sounds.. notifications, systems, media, ringtones and etc...
use your phone as you would use it and check back those settings again if they've been lowered or decreased by one notch. If you do notice that, then definitely it's a bug on the stock ICS firmware.
Same Problem
I am having the same problem. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem, as I've tried changing all kinds of settings, turning the device completely off and back on, etc. And none of it makes any difference. It just doesn't work at all sometimes, and works just fine other times. I've even had it stop working in the middle of playing a sound.
Anyone know anything about this, or if there's any fix for it? I guess I'm going to try to get my device replaced, as it is still under warranty. I'm just worried that everything's going to work fine when I go to get it replaced, only to stop working once I get home.

Hello!... I will tell about my case.
I bought the ZR in august 2013. It was rooted and flashed to 4.2.2. Everything worked fine. Until January 2014.
The first problem was - Silence during calls. I was not able to hear something. And my voice was not heard on the other side. In tests microphone and dynamic worked fine. External dynamic and earphones did not change something - silence during call remained.
After some time (phone was on and off... and again... and battery was removed some times) problem disappeared. But after one day it came back. And disappeared again... and came back... and so on for few times. The other functions all the time worked good. I only was not able to talk during calls.
I flashed the phone to 10.4.1.B.0.101... and to some previous firmwares by Flashtool. But nothing changed.
The next stage after some days was: I turned the phone off. And after turning on it was not been able to see the network. And wifi was not working. I went to settings and saw - IMEI and MAC have disappeared.
I flashed phone to 10.4.1.B.0.101 again. Nothing changed.
And after a little time phone said something like: "the system application stopped" ( I did not remember exactly). And than after rebooting it went into:
"the phone goes up to locked homescreen and then screen goes black and restarts automatically".
I think our cases may have one problem in basis. And I think the problem is in hardware.
I will go to service center. But I think they are not very good in fixing phones here...

I have the same problem, have you been able to fix it?
Since you say no IMEI then you have to fix that first of you are on warranty unroot play dumb and get a replacement
If not look for the fix

To replace the phone or get money back I should give the phone to official service center in my town. They have 45 days to fix phone. If not - i can get money back. So the phone fixing procedure may be a long time thing. I bought xperia z1 compact. And I have not a lot of time for going to service center. But when it will be done I will write here about the result.
And it's not rooted now of course
Problem was solved. Sony changed some electronic parts of my phone. Now it works good. It was the hardware dysfunction.
I just bought this phone today, everything's been going great until I received a phone call on the stock rom. The phone instantly froze and rebooted, I tried placing a call once it restarted and the same thing happened. I was planning on flashing a rom anyways, so I flashed to Dynamic Kat. The same exact thing happens, the phone works flawlessly until you try to place a call.
Anyone ran into this problem and know a fix? Thanks for any help.
Hi,
I have started to get this weired issue after the 8.1 update.
Whenever I receive a call, after picking up the speaker phone turns on automatically. I have to manually turn off the speakerphone, also it does not indicate that the speakerphone is turned on.

Solution is mostly the same for all of the problems.
Do full factory reset.
Setup Google account
Don't install any apps just yet.
Try if problem still exists
In most cases this will help.
What I've learned since my first android device, all of the custom ROMs etc, is that the updates are causing loads of problems.
Once in a while, especially after version upgrade, is worth doing full reset just after updating.
This doesn't apply not only to android, but pretty much every single device on the market.

Thanks for the suggestion, But by full factory reset do you mean the hard reset from the recovery menu or just the factory reset from settings menu -> factory reset..?
facing same issue please help
i am facign the same issue please help me out
Still no solution for the problem...I have made an habit to turn speaker phone on and off immediately after calling .
Try Macrodroid app to set an automatic task, to turn speaker off 1 or to seconds after receiving call.
I am also facing Same issue, can any one give suggestions
Somehow that happened to me when I just got the phone a few months ago. I think that was still on 8.0.
But tapping the speaker phone button 2 times everytime I have a call became nature for me and eventually after a few days, I no longer have that issue.
Are you still having that speaker phone issue now?
Yes...but while it was consistent on 8.0 it has become a random occurrence after 8.1 update
same issue
factory reset solution is not acceptable.
My daughter was all excited today to get the Android 12 update on her 4a 5G. Once she installed it, the speakers all quit working. No sound from the phone at all, and I've check every single setting. When you make OR receive a phone call, it is stuck on speaker phone, but the no sound comes out of the speaker. The speaker phone button stays lit up and you can't turn it off.
We have rebooted it and I finally did a full factory reset, and the problem persists. I didn't reinstall any apps. Didn't even add her account. Just a clean FDR and reboot and still now sound.
Tried to flash back to Android 11, but the bootloader is locked, and it the OEM Unlock button is greyed out, and says its not available on carrier-locked phones. This is from T-Mobile, and Its financed, so I doubt they will unlock the device, so I won't be able to unlock the bootloader. I feel very stuck right now.
I've been flashing Nexus, Pixel, and Samsung for years now, going back to the original Moto DROID, adn I can NOT figure out how to fix this. I'm guessing I'm going to have to get a replacement from T-Mo.
Just had issues myself with a locked bootloader. Call a representative and describe the issue. They unlocked my pixel after saying I was using development tools.
Just solved this issue, I didn't have app auto updates on, there was an update waiting for Speech Services from Google. Once that had been installed (there might have been 2 separate updates) microphone and speakers started working instantly again.
