Weak cell signal; apparently hardware damage. Can it be repaired? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. A bit over a month ago, I started getting horrible cell reception on my Nexus 6. I'm pretty sure that was around the time I dropped it on a concrete subway platform. I now miss calls when I'm in houses where my phone always worked. Changing the Verizon SIM card and using safe boot didn't fix the problem. Somehow, factory resetting it seemed to work for a bit, but I started noticing the problem again about a week later or so.
Is there some way for me to diagnose what happened here, and can I repair the hardware if that's what this is?

Does it get worse as the phone gets warm/hot? Try turning the phone off and let it cool down and see how it runs when it is restarted. If it gets better then I'd think a weak to begin with solder joint might have gotten worse.

Well, I would say that it gets hot as the phone begins to lose reception, but maybe it's the other way around. Also, I forgot to mention that turning on airplane mode and then turning it back off helps. It helps some of the time, anyway.
Thanks.

You can try the dialer code *#*#72786#*#* That will reset all the cellular config data and trigger a fresh activation after it reboots. Seems to be a software issue if you are able to improve it with an airplane mode cycle, if it was hardware I would think anything you do in android would be able to improve it.

Services goes in and out

My tilt recently has been acting rather strange, and I'm not sure if its the radio or not. The phone keeps on gaining and losing signal, and cannot figure out why. At first I thought it might be a software problem, but I updated the rom to the newest official release and that did not fix the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion? The problem isn't reception, I've never had this trouble until recently, has always worked fine in this area regardless of weather / other.
not sure if it's the same issue...
I had the problem few weeks back..
my tytn would be having no signal at times..
I nid to go to Comms Panel and off/on the Phone.
after few days, encountered no SIM Card detected error.
hard reset and changing ROMs, including stock ROM didn't help.
now it's being repaired..
hope to get it back soon.
its horrible that you mention that, my warranty literally ran out about 5 days ago . However, based on the fact that I've done just about everything I could on the software end, I think it might be hardware (even though I haven't really even put this phone through any trauma whatsoever). The radio part of the phone....does anyone know which specific part that is? I don't remember seeing an individual radio in the disassembly, so I assume that it is on one of the boards. Does anyone know which one specifically?
mine was subjected to a few drops on the floor hehe..
but it was ok...
it was only recently that I encountered those issues...
if U can try get hold of the tytn II assembly/dis-assembly pictures, U might be able to remove the antenna pcb/board...
I only cleaned the metal connectors at the antenna board area.. no joy..

Nexus One Burned Out My Sim Card...

i had my phone in my pocket.. and it just got extremely hot so i checked on it and it was syncing so i was like whatever.. then i get a call. then it instantly dropped. and i was not getting no signal at all.. popped the battery out put it back in..
wave secure locked my phone down gladly remembered my password was 123456 after 15 tries. then it said my simcard cant be read... popped it out and put it in my iphone. same ish.. had to go out and buy a new simcard...
called tmobile up, customer service call dropped like 8 times soon as i finish saying that long ass number on the simcard
so im guessing the heat may be a real problem
ehm.. i have this issue with NOkia phone before. I always feel hot on the skin
near the pocket and everytime i see my skin whEre the handphone rest, it always burnt and from there i realized that constantly opening my wireless is not a good idea. I am not sure if it happened to you due to same thing.
Also i realized some rom is overclock and generated the heat too much which i think might not do your phone good in the long run.
Anyway, this is just my idea.
.......wat
Sounds more like your SIM-card failed than that your phone actually fried it.
Do you use a case?
Wow, sounds like some program was preventing your phone from sleeping, or a runaway process running the CPU constantly. The phone should NEVER get got if you aren't using it for anything.
Could also be a bad sim triggered something that kept trying to access it too, so that could have been what kept your phone running enough to heat up.
Call google, they got good support.
Although if you're rooted and reflashed.. they will say its ur ROM/kernel that does that.

Insanely problematic M8

I'm not sure if I got a dud phone or it's a problem I caused but since I've gotten my phone about a month or so ago, it's been really glitchy. The screen rotates (even completely upside down) even with the setting turned off, the screen turns on randomly, "car mode" launches randomly, the headphone jack randomly doesn't work, apps misbehave. The problem has slowly gotten worse and worse. I've tried roms, multiple factory resets, I just don't know what could be causing this. Any ideas?
Try cleaning your charging port/headphone port with q tip and a very small amount of rubbing alcohol. Dry before using.
Just a quick answer to anyone facing the same issues I was, water damage seems to be the culprit. Had to deal with Asurion's bull**** for an hour but new phone is on it's way now.

[FIX] [VIDEO] Nexus 5 stuck on "Turning Wi-Fi on..."

I saw someone do this to their iPhone 4S (link)
I tried it on my Nexus 5 and it worked:
https://youtu.be/A4n0j3uaS7E
Off of my understanding, this is reflowing the motherboard which helps melt the solder on the Wi-Fi chip which fixes the broken joints. For me, it only lasted a day both of the times I did it. Although, I have been told reflowing can sometimes not work at all, work for a day, or work for another year and it's effectiveness is completely random.
If you decide to try it, I hope you have better luck than I did! I have since put a new motherboard into the phone and I am still trying to find a way to permanently fix it and I will make a video for that if I happen to find a way..

HELP! Mobile is keep turning off and then not turning on.

Hi,
First of all, Sorry for Bad English, Bear with me.
Long Story, Short!
It keeps happening!
It would turn off, won't reboot
Won't take charging
I will leave it for a while
If I leave it off after when I am tired trying to turn it on, a few hours later It will be WARM like it was being used, Then I would plugin again and THIS TIME IT WOULD TAKE CHARGE and EVEN REBOOT!!
After when I am using it for a while (10-12min) GOES BACK TO POINT 1
I ERASE EVERYTHING, FACTORY RESET IT, and This time.. IT would work for more than 10-12min,
I will install apps, login into the account, and then again... The same thing would start to happen! !
What Really Happen? Day ZERO!
I bought this Red Magic 3 phone 3 months ago and it was working super awesome and everything was great until last week after a 30-40 min gaming session on this phone, I went back to sleep and kept the phone on the table.
The next morning I noticed that the mobile is turned off, I thought Maybe battery drained so I plugged in to charge and continued with my morning routine.
After an hour I noticed that mobile is still not charging I tried plugging in and out multiple times and it didn't start charging, I checked the Data Cable on my MI MAX 2 (that also supports Type C) and Cable and Adapter were working fine.
I immediately realized that SOMETHING IS WRONG!!!
I saw some youtube video and I tried that Vol Key + Power Key thing and that Bios look alike menu opened up, I can see all the reboot, recovery boot, etc option but nothing worked.
So I picked the WIPE DATA option and It worked, Formatted the Phone and IT REBOOTED.
I figured maybe some software issue was causing it.
BUT SINCE THAT DAY it keeps happening!
It would turn off, won't reboot
Won't take charge when I plugin
I will leave it for a while
a few hours later It will be WARM like it was being used, Then I would plug in again and THIS TIME IT WOULD TAKE CHARGE and EVEN REBOOT!!
After when I am using it for a while (10-12min) GOES BACK TO POINT 1
Service Center
They are no help! They don't know what is wrong with it, Even they formatted it in front of me they did the Factory RESET it, I tried using it in Front of them for a while and the SAME THING HAPPENED!
then they installed some updates using some official package.
But still,
IT would work for more than 10-12min,
I will install apps, login in the account
suddenly... The same thing would start happening again!
Their Resolution is :
Motherboard issue and I will have to get the motherboard replaced.
This simply means EVEN THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT and CHANGING EVERYTHING is their SOLUTION!
and they said it won't be covered on the warranty! Because the warranty has been voided BECAUSE THERE IS A SMALL CHIP on the phone! -_- which happens to be 40-50 days old.
I know is their Excuse to get money from me! Now I don't know what to do with it.
For me it was my first expensive mobile. I never bought a mobile for more than 200$.
Same thing for me.

What's your battery health at, voltage, and how many ma draw when just sitting in that app.
I've learned my lesson with this company. A couple of extra capacitative buttons and a large battery are not a reason to buy a phone. The build quality is ok, the software abysmal (I still get random **** getting pressed when I unlock the phone), and support horrendous. Do yourself a favor, threaten to speak with the governing authority in your country regarding warranties. Tell them a small crack on the screen is not indicative of internal damage. Tell them you will post a youtube review of the company and phone if they do not abide by their warranty and fix your phone.
Once you fix your phone, sell it and cut your losses.
When will people learn YouTube won't do anything. You need subscribers to have any kind of weight. I'm at 2.4m lol.
I don't know the warranty laws in your country. I know here they have to prove that what you did was the cause. Nubia is really shady and not only scams but will flat out lie all the time. I seen people had bad battery's and they say they need a replacement board.
Just let me know what I asked and we can start going in a little deeper. Start off with the basics then move into some other stuff. Could be a simple easy fix.

I'm curious to see if this is a battery issue or something else

Ok I attempted to help you trouble shoot this issue and get it fixed but it's pretty clear this is an uphill battle and a waste of my time.

Thanks for your time.
I got the Battery Replaced thinking it was the issue but right after the installation. I turned it on to use it and it didn't work... I am still facing the same issue.. Meaning Battery was fine.. there is something else that causing it to turn off like this..!
Still, it acts like in COMA, then it heats up, I will charge it, It will boot.. If I will try using it ..it will turn off and won't turn back on!

Well.. I got the battery replaced and it was a waste of another 2,000INR. Still Facing the same issue. This means this Turning Off issue is not caused by the Battery.. It is due to something else..! :crying:
