ONEPLUS 5 - OnePlus 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone know if any UK providers (o2 ideally as that's who I have my OP3 with) will be stocking the OP5 from launch on contract? Not due for an upgrade but would happily cover the £300 left on my device plan to pick up the OP5.
o2 won't confirm anything but hoping there could be an inside-man (or woman) with some knowledge.
Thanks

No doubt o2 will stock it again since no one else has picked up the 3T

I work for O2 as one of their instore technicians also have a Oneplus3, got it via oneplus.net before o2 announced the partnership and there is no news yet about anything related to Oneplus 5 probably due to the phone not being announced yet. Remember companies sign non disclosure agreements so it isn't exactly encouraged to talk about things not even announced to exist yet.

Cheers for the replies.
I spoke to LiveChat again today just to ask a question regarding pre-ordering the device once its announced (So I pay off the device plan and get the new OP5) and the reply I was given basically said when the device is announced on the site there will be instructions on how existing customers can pre-book the upcoming device.
From that it sounds like O2 are taking on the OP5 from launch!

Will T-Mobile have the Kaiser?

I've heard AT&T will on Sept 3rd or 26th.. but what about T-Mobile?
T-mobile in Germany have released a pdf showing the MDA varioIII. Beta testers have been using a Kaiser locked to T-mobile. So I think it is safe to assume it will be released on T-mobile, the question is when and with what level handset subsidy?
I was told by my local T-Mobile store that it is expected late Sept.
T-Mob UK will have the Vario III (Kaiser) late Sept @ £280 upgrade price according the lady I spoke to yesterday. I've not seen anything firm on T-Mob US.
Gordon
so what is the deal? is the USA one going to work with 3G? or are they using different freq/bands etc...
would i have to get it from tmobile? or could i get it say from ebay?
or maybe those from Germany on ebay

Seems kinda expensive. I hope that price is for a 12 month contract renewal on T-Mobiles cheapest tariff.

Good question - what tariff that price applies to, as it seems quite expensive? I've paid £80 last year for new MDA Vario II with Flext25+WnW price plan, so I expect to get Vario III as an upgrade later on January 2008 for not more than £100 with the same plan...

Just spoke to T-Mobile UK about an upgrade, at first the girl a spoke to "had no information about the Vario III" once she realised that I knew a lot about it she then "found an email" with some information about it.
she was reluctant to give me information but i managed to get out of her that is was due out "early September", she said this could mean anything, and that the price in the email did say £280.
i Said that that was quite a lot and she said that from past experience the true price will be lower and once you take you tariff into consideration it should bring that down..... here's hoping!!!! :-D
TyTN II / T-Mobile
Today they officially announced the TyTN II for early October.
Ironic, really. The first network to confirm they're getting it (however unofficially, it's been "known" for a while now) are the last to release it.
Update I just received a few minutes ago from T-Mobile Germany:
HTC Kaiser aka MDA Vario III will be available END of October.
Yipee cant wait!

Cant wait, cant wait!, Me upgrade is due around October, so fingers crossed they have it (minus delays), i might actually go for the Tytn II rather than the ameo. Ive had the mda vario, now on hermes and find the form factor excellent.
Please dont let me down, T-mobile uk!
I know, just read the press release, October!!! my Wizard has been playing up for months now and has finally died.
I've been waiting for the Kaiser for what seems like years, you cant beat T's web n' walk, but I'm seriously considering just buying the sim free HTC version and taking the £15 discount on my tariff for not taking a phone upgrade. also i don't like what T-Mobile have done with the styling.
any clues on what Vodkafone or Orange have done with there versions or are they being released as HTC branded?

Is that £15 discount off the bill actually a real deal? Does it concern *every* customer who is not willing to take new phone, or just selected ones? Can someone confirm it?
If it's real and for everyone, I will seriously consider buying HTC-branded version and then take that discount on my renewal due January.
And me too. My T-mob 12-month contract (on Hermes) has finished last month.
£15 discount means a lot for a whole year.
When i check my online account it's just there under the upgrade and renewals section...
Just noticed though, it is £15 off for 12 months, but an 18 month contract, but still that £180 over the year, and if T-Mob are going to charge £280 for the Vario III if you buy the HTC version for around £500 there isn't that much difference e.g. £280+£180=£460 for the extra £40 i think i would prefer the unbranded HTC one.
Unbranded HTC vs T-Mobile
I would seriously you suggest you rethink that, T-mobile replaced my mda Vario II Twice, no questions asked, try getting that sort of service from HTC..thet repair it and that takes months...
Conclusion:Always buy from your carrier if you can, they have an ineterest in keeping you happy.

very good point, thanks for the advice.
I'm in down in London today on business and have just found a shop that has a demo Kaiser in store. just had a bit of a play with it.
Got really mixed emotions about it now, I've been waiting for it for months and once I had it in my hands it was like "hmm, its ok" didn't really get that wow factor I was expecting.
the funny thing is, a few weeks ago when i first held the Touch i did get that wow. so now I'm questioning my self, do i NEED the qwerty, or should i wait for the Touch II

ROM and RAM and grey import!!

Hi, I recieved my diamond from expansys two days ago.
Everything is ok so far, except for the ROM and RAM which are far away from 256 and 193....is it because the device is a grey import (as people from other forums are saying!!) or what??
Anyway, if the device is legal and eveything is ok, why it is not allowing serial number registration with HTC website??
And finally, I really respect expansys and do think that they are decent people, but what should I do if the new versions have bigger RAM and ROM, shall I ask for return or any compensation (according to the UK rules)??
As i said in my other post, its a grey unit ie its not a uk model but an asian unit. Which means that HTC UK wont support it, if you have any problems you will need to send it to Expansys who will then sort it out for you...but you will not get any technical support from HTC. Also you wont get any support unless you rely on Expansys to supply any rom updates etc. You will need to register your serial number on HTCs asian website, then it will accept it.
As for Expansys being decent people??...i dont think so, the fact that they have and are still duping people into thinking that the Diamonds they are selling are UK spec, when they arent really speaks volumes about their practices. They have lost my business thats for sure, i refuse to deal with a company that cannot be honest and upfront...thats been proven by their constant deleting of posts in their forums.
Now if i was you??, i would return it, get my money back..wait a week for the 'real' uk stock to come in...hopefully next week they will be here and not only that you will save yourself some money as it will be cheaper than what Expansys are selling them at...in fact totalpda.co.uk are selling them at £410. Of course its up to you but if i was you, id be sending it back for a full refund.
The ROM/RAM is used by the device and not shown... What are the figures you have, as this may be the cause?
Currently, there are no UK release models available, and there should not be for at least a week...

Lets clear this one up for once and for all on the warranty front.
If you are say in the UK and buy a grey import then you are NOT supported or warranted by HTC UK. You can get support from the area in which the device was obtained from, in these cases Asia. So if the unit breaks you must return it to HTC in Hong Kong either directly yourself or via Expansys which will handle it for you.
You also cannot register a unit from Hong Kong on the HTC UK site and therefore for updates you must register units on the HTC regional site from which the unit was obtained, in these cases the Asian site.
Furthermore the level of warranty differs from region to region so in the EU many devices are under warranty for 24 months which is not the case in others and if a unit is sourced from outside the EU then it will only have the warranty period for that region which in most cases will be about 12 months.
The beef that most people have with this is that Expansys are not being completely transparent about this so people are buying them and then not knowing the full position.
Well and more to the point really . Customers are not getting a choice . They think they are getting a UK branded device as advertised when in fact thay are not. This is against the law in the UK as selling Grey Goods is classed as counterfit.
The warranty is your choice but i would not risk the word of a company that is clearly trying to pull the wool over it's customers eyes just to be first to market. You may as well buy a unit off Ebay which is far cheaper and you will still have to use country of origan for its warranty repairs.
Just my 2 pence worth
Ok guys. I bought my Diamond from Expansys as I have my Tytn II a few months back.
I did try to register its serial number through HTC and I got the message that it was not an HTC phone.
I then registered under a different email giving Honk Kong as a country of residence and when I tried to register my phone stil got the same message.
Any Idea???
Thanks

Did you try going through the HTC Asian/HK site?
legal
Gray is not illegal in the UK, Black is illegal you are buying a genuine product from the manufacture so its not Black or (i hope) stolen
What is illegal is false advertising but after looking at the site, there is nothing in there that is illegal, it in no way suggests anything about the extent of the warrenty other than contact them, it in no ways states that its anything other than a English UK phone, which it is otherwise it would be german or Japanise or something.
the fact of the matter is, its called GRAY for a reason, its not illegal but its not exactly very open either, common sence is needed here people, if someone is doing something thats to good to be true, it probably is, O2 have backed HTC for years now, if anyone was going to release genuine HTC UK phones then either O2 or HTC will do it first

True, but selling at those it where not grey market imports is illegal, and is also trademark infringement as the items are not to be sold in the UK...

If sold as an "Englis UK" device, that is what they should be. I believe these devices are in fact HK WWE devices, which makes it illegal.

Orange backed HTC devices far earlier than O2, and T-Mo have actually announced the device, so I suspect one of those would release the device before O2.

legal or not
it is potentially a copywrite infringment if HTC havent gave permision to sell it or indirectly sell it, that doesnt make it illegal until HTC says so, its quite possible that they allow first tire resells to pass on to europe, it is not however illegal just because itcame from The far east.
It is sold as a UK device, the device is English however, it may have been adapted to be english but its english, in the same way that a german book translated in to english is still english (all be it usually bad) they are not doing anything legally wrong so long as HTC approves to the sale ofits devices, and since they are getting paid for them one way or another its unlikely they will care much, and its perfectly ok for them to limit the warrenty on them as well, so long as its at least 12months, they will however insist that it is sent back through the original retailier it was brought from
i think some one posted in somware that register problem is coming coz HTC webpage not updated, or data not updated yet. he told he recive a mail from HTC.
anyway non of my business... i have no hand in HTC or Expansy or anything els.....

I believe since the devices where not sold with the intention of being sold in the UK, it probably is illegal, although as you say, HTC will be the ones to decide.

The ROM on these devices is the HK WWE ROM. It is a WWE ROM rather than a "UK English" ROM. And, all the german translations I've witnessed have been pretty good
I got mine from expansys and manged to join club HTC with the serial number no problems on the europe site.
Question is when a update comes out will it ask for a serial number and will it be valid then.
My bad just tried to register the devive and yep does not register. Guess ill have to wait for people to release the update on here really.
Register on the english version of the HK site. At least you can get any roms released for that region (and share them here too!).

Expansys and Diamond "gray imports” warranty update...

Well things are bad and good at the same time...
Anyway I think there’s no room for any panic and we have a clear information now about our toys from Expansys ...

The bad thing first...
10 June 2008 11:53 GMT by Stuart Miles
HTC has backtracked on its comments yesterday to Pocket-lint about supporting customers who’ve bought a non UK version of the new HTC diamond.
“HTC will always support the consumer and their device but what’s important is that consumers know that devices are region specific and that to receive the full customer experience, the device bought needs to be relevant for the region they are in. To ensure this, consumers can acquire their HTC Touch Diamond through our trusted distribution network”
On Monday the Taiwanese company had said that any device bought through Expansys would not be covered by Warranty or come with HTC qualified support, in particular pointing towards Expansys in the UK who had imported phones from a different region to beat the official release in the UK.
The company has also moved to quash rumors that the new handset won’t be available until July.
In an interview with Pocket-lint Florian Seiche, VP of HTC Europe told us that the HTC diamond is shipping in the UK now and be available everywhere before the end of the month.

And the good thing ....
Sticky: Diamond Warranty.
As always, eXpansys will do what it can to support it's all of it's customers.
To confirm, our units are sold with a 2 year warranty.
If HTC decide to be unreasonable and not honour their own warranty, eXpansys will cover the repair for the original customer.
Updates will posted in our forums as and when they become available. We appreciate that like us, customers like to get newly released toys at the earliest possible opportunity.
Therefore we will always do our best to secure stock before any of our competitors, as we have done in this case.
This can, and does upsets many of our competitors, and leads to rumors and accusations.
We look forward to upsetting our competitors in the future, and pleasing the majority our customers at the same time ;-)
As with anything bought from eXpansys, you may return any item within 10 days of the date of receiving your order for a full refund.

So, this is what eXpansys is telling me.

Yony thanks for this info but please be kind and confirm or deny my statements.
As far as I understand this is what Expansys is offering to me as aftersale support.
- If something goes wrong with the device, Expansys will replace the device but they will also cover the European transportation costs - both ways. Have in mind that I am from Macedonia.
- I wont be able to get official updates from HTC directly but they will be posted here or I can register at HTC Hong Kong and get the updates from there.
- I wont be able to get the support from the listed HTC CARE European authorized services.

In the end.. even direct HTC waranty isnt all that great. I think the worst case scenario is if expansys have to ship back to HTC in HK, which will add time for repair. With a big repair center in the UK thats pretty unlikely unless HTC really want to stick it to them

Too bad Motorola officially stated that it isn't yet even sure about a Milestone update. The O2 site is not Motorola. They may simply still believe what Moto said half a year ago - that the Milestone is Flash-ready, nothing more, nothing less.
i think i read Germany o2 was mistaken about the 2.2........

lolz! Look who is talking.
Its hard to trust company like O2 which is already a non-trustworthy company. It sold millions of O2 XDA in India and other countries without service and support network. I bought one a year back and after few months I discovered they discontinued the support in India and suggesting to send fauty devices for service to Singapore, another third country.

Why you are not sure? Now www.seeo2.com was closed which was working fine before with all products and details. Now that link goes to www.myxda.com and select support and select india. wait....why trust me. Check this screenshot with address of thier site.
O2 does not produce anything. They are simply resellers. They have different websites in different countries, but all of them are not properly organized and sell same devices with different names. If they are manufactures why they will sell models from sony, motorola, etc together on thier site? e.g. http://www.o2online.de/ sells blackberry samsung vivaz nokia netzabdeckung htc motorola surfstick milestone sony ericsson palm pre X6 X10 n97 mini iphone toshiba. its so funny to see all companies in one site. it looks like some kind of ebay shop.
Anyways check the screenshot about singapore service center notification. Now why someone will send his mobile to another country for repair? It is not logical and not even practical at the same time.
I dont trust it now at all. others may trust who dont know what o2 is...

O2 is a cell phone provider, i.e. they have a network, like Sprint or Verizon in the US, and they will sell you a phone to use on it, along with a contract. What's so unusual about that?
I don't know how coordinated they are internationally, so it's entirely possible the service is bad in one country but great in another, but no reason to bash them like this.
In Germany, Vodafone (another provider) and O2 ship customized firmware on their Milestones, which they test in-house. Same for other providers in other countries. That's why the 2.1 rollout was so fragmented, and that's also why O2 would know if 2.2 is coming, so there.

I'd suggest you do some research
V8 is a JavaScript engine, while WebKit is a complete browser engine. The two will happily run side by side in the same browser as long as you deactivate WebKit's built-in JavaScript engine.
Google has been doing just that in Chrome for a while now, and tweaked V8 for mobile use in Froyo. That doesn't mean they dropped WebKit though

I exactly meant what you said "they are not manufacturers." obviously I will express my own experience in my own country. O2 does not exist in India, they sold handsets with different branded outlets, gave support contract to some Indian local companies who never gave proper service and now they are telling us to send device to "Expansys, Singapore" This is so frustrating. I had to get it repaired by paying heavy amount from private service cente while in warranty and I could not even complain and the seller told me to send it to singapore. Bad O2, at least in India.
edit: O2 actually should not declare things like this on its own and wait for original manufacturers. Motorola is doubtfully quiet and others are declaring on thier own. I still hope Motorola will roll 2.2 froyo in next few months after all previous devices are rolled with 2.1 update. 2.1-update1 is still rolling down all over the world to many devices as per reports from android users from different countries with different brands. I got mine around 15 July.

None of the providers are manufacturers. None. They all provide/resell phones for several manufacturers. Unless what you are saying is that the subsidiaries or O2 partners in your country are selling phones but not servicing them?
O2 can declare what they want. Why do they have to 'wait on Motorola'? They are a major provider and would surely know better than you or me if an update is in the works. Maybe they heard something from Motorola that was not declared publicly.

That's non-sense...they only say that flash WOULD work if 2.2 would be running...you shouldn't interpret to much in such sentences...

Besides what they are saying on the site is as above:
Flash would work only IF Android 2.2 is on your phone.
More 2.2 news, this time from Optus in Australia:

o2 is a provider which, like almost every other provider, HAS software developers who does branding, updates and app-development, so I am SURE that o2 will provide a 2.2 update, no matter what Motorola will or won't do.

[Q] HTC HD7 Not Coming To T-Mobile UK??? Exclusive to O2?

Hi Everyone,
I am confused!
I know that the HD7 has been seen on leaked internal document (http://www.gaj-it.com/24758/htc-hd7-makes-an-appearance-on-t-mobile-document-along-with-dell-streak/) for T-Mobile UK but if you look http://shop.o2.co.uk/mobile_phone/HTC/HD7 it says the phone is Exclusive to O2!
Any suggestions?
You might be able to get it on T-Mobile from a third party site but it is meant to be exclusive to O2.
I spoke to a T-Mobile retentions guy the other day and he said that he had seen the HD7 and that it will be coming to T-Mobile after the O2 exclusive. Further down the conversation he checked something and mentioned the Samsung WP7 phone as one that he had seen, so it made me question whether he was getting confused between Samsung and HD7 for the phone he had seen.
As a T-Mobile customer I have ordered the O2 PAYG version and will unlock it, putting my sim-only contract in it.
A lady from T-Mobile shop has told me it will come to them but doesn't know when. Myself, don't think will wait long and might just get one from O2 and unlock it
