So, I know wifi-direct is a standard to wirelessly transfer data between 2 devices without a network/router/other form of middleman and I know NFC gets 2 devices to connect and transfer the data. However, is there a way to do this WITHOUT a 3rd party app like Superbeam and WITHOUT NFC?
For instance: Going into the wifi settings, there is an option to manually connect to a device through wifi-direct. I have connected my HTC One to my Nexus 7 and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. But I see nothing that allows me to transfer any data anywhere after connecting. It's not in the wifi-direct settings, it's not in any app I've looked at, nothing.
Any insight as to why this option is a part of Android if NFC or third party apps are the only way to do this? Or if I'm simply just missing something?
This is what I'm curious about

i believe this would be in your settings under transfer content instead of under wifi settings. just a guess if i am mistaken some please let me know.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll experiment with that. But that's asking for the other phone to install the HTC transfer app as well. It feels like it's designed to move your info from your old phone to new one, not exactly "here's a file for you" kind of use. I'll try it later and share what I find.
reading up that there may not be any system-level functionality for wifi-direct. Will need an app to take advantage of it. oh well...
So I have a verizon moto x, rooted and unlocked. I use it to tether with my unlimited data so I don't have internet at home. Recently I've experience a lot of timeouts, disconnections, and crashes, with a program on my computer that connects on port 4747. I want to forward this port to improve and maybe even fix these problems but the apps for port forwarding on the android have not work thus far.
I have tried both wifi tether and native hotspot, used the port forwarding app "port forwarder" and some others that don't seem as good. Tried all options so far but I'm open to advice. Is what I'm attempting impossible? I read the 4g verizon phones get internal IP addresses so I should think I could use port forwarding to route the data to the computer to which I'm tethering. Help please?
I understand too..I do something similar.. Although I don't have answer to ur exact problem I can say what I do.. I have the cradle point mbr95 modem/WiFi router with the Verizon USB modem and stream my unlimited data by WiFi.. This set me back about $120 all together but much simpler and easier..came from a RAZR that has a bad USB charge port.. SO.. It would die on me and I just spent about 4 days getting it to charge.
P.s. I love ur response..haha

Also, did some digging there's an app called port forwarder give it a shot..didn't look like u needed root.

Sounds like you're trying to solve the problem from the Android side. To do that manually you'd need to brush up/google on iptables. But since you're dealing with one specific Windows program, maybe it would be easier to solve from the Windows side. Port remapping in windows seems straight forward. see here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11525703/port-forwarding-in-windows and also here http://muzso.hu/2013/01/08/port-forwarding-on-windows-with-builtin-tools-netsh and so on.
unless you don't have access to the windows computer... then you're back to Android, terminal emulator, and iptables...

Greetings,
I have SGS I9000 and it was fine but the Screen broken and there is no data on it and the phone still working i still can hear the ring when someone calling me or SMS me and when i connect it to pc I'm hearing the sound from my pc but i can't make anything cos i'm activating the usb debugging
and activating the developer options i'm on SlimBean 4.2.2 and now i need to backup my data and contacts i need help on this plz .
have you enabled the backup of yours contacts on your gmail?
Hopefully you had set the default account for your contacts/address book to be your Google account. This is not always set as a default (especially on stock ROMs) and you tend to have to do it manually (otherwise it just saves them on the actual phone, so if your phone is lost then so are your contacts). This would mean that your address book is always synced with the http://contacts.google.com linked to the Google account that your phone was registered under. Another thing you have to remember is to have the Sync switched on as otherwise it won't ever sync anything to the cloud.
As for the data on the phone..I'm not sure what you can do without a screen as to even connect USB > PC you generally need to select the USB transfer notification from the notification bar then click the activate USB button (can't remember the exact name) and then your phone should connect to all your phones drives. I think maybe that you can access the internal SD card without doing this and of course, the external one should not be a problem as you can just take it out from your phone and plug it into a PC.
As a last resort, you can probably pick up a replacement screen and digitiser from eBay and repair the phone yourself. YouTube should have many videos telling you how to do this step by step.
LCD
Hi, in AliExpress you find at 35$ the replacement LCD included the frame and delivery costs, but you have to bookmark them in your wish list as they fluctuate on price.
Samsung screen is still very good, but for everything else you find for little more new better phone.
If you know someone near you who has the same phone you may ask if they let you insert your motherboard in their screen just to retrieve your data, so you will not spend money at all.
If you live in a big city you may look for a shattered LCD that still work for very little money in a repair phone shop that usually have when installing new one. With a screen protector you will be able to use it without losing parts of glass neither cutting your finger.
Have a look around before spending money, I will do the same and report you if I find something.

To temporary change the motherboard you find all instructions in YouTube.

Anyway be patient and buy for any phone you own a full case, I founded for this gt i9000 the nice one that is common in new models that cover the screen and replace the back battery door being very slim.
1. Am I right that there is no way to make an ethernet connection to it? Google comes up blank. My Galaxy T700 8.4" tablet can do it, using the Samsung adapter cable (2xUSB, ethernet, power) but on the S6 only the 2xUSB works.
2. After writing some files to a flash stick plugged into a USB OTG cable (e.g. the above one) how long is it before the files are finally closed? It is suggested to unmount the USB device (in the stock file manager I assume) but that is so "1990s" Even windows XP doesn't need to do that.
3. Is there any functionality to send/receive SMS when there is no apparent GSM connection, only WIFI? After discarding a few SMS apps (mainly because they had no retries on failed sends - a real issue in UK countryside where we have poor signal) I am now using Smitten SMS which does seem to do retries. But also it has managed to send SMSs when I didn't see any signal! I did a lot of googling and could not find anything apart from cryptic references to Google Voice. I am well aware of the issues in doing texts over the internet (the phone doesn't know its # so CLI cannot work unless you configure that somewhere - the Apple I-message features needs that; no way to route the reply IF it is sent to the GSM network which is why I-message works only between two Iphones and only if both have an internet connection).
THANK YOU in advance for any information.
Great phone, BTW. Here
http://peter-ftp.co.uk/808/S6-v-808/
is a comparison of the S6 with the Nokia 808, and of two S6 camera apps.
My phone is rooted, BTW.
Is there anybody in this forum?
Hey guys, so the purpose of this thread is to find out if this is a bug or just how the mobile hotspot works on the P9. Everytime my hotspot is active, I can't use data on my device. No other Android device that I've used has ever has this issue with a mobile hotspot.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks in advance!
Bump. Anyone experiencing this?
I have the same issue. Discovered it the day after i got it took it backed and swapped it, all was good. Then a few days later the new phone developed this issue. The only way around that I have found is forget the network on the device you are trying to tether to your p9, set up the connection again, return to the home screen on your p9, go and make a cuppa for 5 to 10 minutes then hopefully it will be fully connected and be able to share data. Long winded i know and if anyone else has a fix for this i would love to hear it as I'm bored of not being to use all my extra data I've just upgrade to when I want to.

Thank you for the response! Good to know it's not only me. Hopefully this is not an issue in the Nougat build.
I'd of thought a few other people would have this issue. I searched for ages when I first got the phone but couldn't find anyone who was experiencing it and gave up, then accidentally found your post months later. Is your p9 branded? Mine's a Vodafone.

I do not have the phone, so this goes first. But I am vodafone user. Bear in mind that some data plans do not allow tethering. If before you had android KK, there was no problem, but since LL, your phone is sending information of how the data is used. Then, vodafone blocks your connection.
You can try to use an app that is called Tether Unlock. You need root.

Thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately this was my first thought so got Vodafone to check this and I've haven't got any restrictions. Also I can get it to work after a bit of messing about but it's not ideal

I also do not have any carrier restrictions regarding tethering.
I'm on the Nougat update and unfortunately, the issue is still present.

Rogers in Canada. No Canadian carriers have tethering/mobile hotspot restrictions, so that's more of a US thing.

Yeah I try to power down after I forget the WiFi setting as a precaution but always have to forget the network then enter the pass key again for it to fully connect to my p9. I'm using the latest firmware from Vodafone but I don't think they have rolled out nougat yet. Not tried any other roms.
The other option is Bluetooth tether, that works fine for me but but the data speed sucks for browsing or streaming, might be an option to connect to your car radio though but I haven't tried it.

Just got my Mate 10 and have discovered exactly the same problem. As soon as I turn on mobile hotspot, then laptop works fine but all data stops on phone. Thsi is not a network issue as I'm on same network as my previous phone and my package specifically allows tethering.
As soon as I turn off hotpot, data works on my phone again.
Any proper fix appreciated...
Bump this thread. I rebranded my P9 3G+32G to EVA-L19C432 and this problem is happening since the rebranding. The phone itself just loses data when wifi hotspot is turned on while the laptop tethered to the phone has no problem navigating. Before with EVA-AL00C00 firmware, this was not the case. Navigation on the phone was not an issue whether or not wifi hotspot was turned on.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem?
Huawei P9 Lite Hotspot
Don' know if this will fix others but turning on hotspot turns off wifi and mobile data.
After some messing, I realised that I had to MANUALLY turn on mobile data to connect to the internet!
Seems OK so far.
Hope this helps.
How did you solve it? I have p20 pro and it is so ennoying not to be able use data on phone while sharing data... I'm on Vodafone UK and there is no restrictions on sharing data.
Hello , I have exactly the same issue with a Huawei Smart P. As soon as I turn on hotspot mode, the data connection stops and vice versa.
I thought it might be a carrier restriction, so I tried the SIM in a portable hotspot. It works, so it' s not that.
Bump. Same issue here. I have a Honor 9, Android 8.0.0. If I activate tethering, be it USB or Hotspot, the connection works only on the devices connected to the phone, while I can't use data on the phone itself. As soon as I turn tethering off, it works on the phone again...
Any help appreciated!
