I was just curious if I do root my phone with the ping pong root that just came out. Would I be able to flash any galaxy s6 rom or do they have to be specific to the variant I have?
No, not until someone clever can unlock our bootloaders so we can utilize the necessary custom recovery, twrp or clockwork mod.
I'm going to install CM12 on my wife's phone. But it's a long time since I did something like this with my own phone, so I have to ask.
Do I need to unlock the bootloader or do I only need to root? And if so, how do I root it?
When I rooted my s3 mini I used a used a pre-rooted firmware which isn't for her model.
Thanks for the help!

Nope, not at this time or if at all. Plenty of threads here already answer this.

I made the mistake of trying it without doing proper research first and soft bricked my SM-G900A. It took me a whole day to find a fix that would work.
Here it is if you are stuck. I don't know the author, so use at your own risk: docs(dot)google(dot)com/uc?id=0B1GXEvC92Q8dTGxfMXo1UnBnSGc&export=download via crich1983
on androidcentral thread: ATT S5 SM-G900A attempted downgrade from 5.1.1, now stuck at samsung splash screen
OMG thank you for the link to unbrick my PA6. Took me a couple of minutes to figure out which slot to fit everything in.
BL - Boot
AP - Recovery
CP - Modem
CSC - NON-HLOS
Is there any option that someone working on that?
I love this phone - I got it for about one month
Maybe Samsung? You cannot install custom firmware to this phone.
Dear @mulp, I am very sorry to tell you this but the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active cannot be upgraded past Android 7.0.1 Nougat, you cannot upgrade it using a Custom ROM such as CyanogenMod or Lineage OS. The reason is because the Active is an AT&T exclusive phone and as such, the bootloader cannot be unlocked. Even as of now (2018), no developer has been able to exploit and hack the locked down bootloader. If you try and exploit the bootloader by flashing TWRP, your KNOX counter can be triggered to 0x1 (believe me, I tried, I failed). The only way to root the device is to flash a combination file but even though, you cannot flash a custom ROM. Sorry about that, but that is AT&T for you.

I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 4 sm-910t with Marshmallow 6.0.1. I've been trying to root it, put a custom recovery on it, and upgrade the OS. Every single YouTube video I've watched and provided links, every website, every forum, and everything I've downloaded that's supposed to be specifically for my device has failed. What's the issue ? I researched, and was assured that the bootloader is unlocked (that's why I specifically bought it). Can anyone help ?
The best way to root your phone and unlock bootloader is CF-auto root. Download it,put phone in downloaded mode and flash it from Odin. Then ,when you do that, install custom Rom and flash magisk 18.0 from TWRP recovery.
Cf auto root is the best way and easiest way to do that.
