Note 5 Unlock Weirdness - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I've had a Note 5 for over a year now and bought it unlocked and noticed that it was rooted (something I was planning to do anyway). This got me wondering how exactly the store I bought it from ended up unlocking it. I tried updating the ROM and ended up losing the unlock; I ended up having to take it back to the store and let them unlock it again. The store was an authroized T-Mobile seller, so I'm not sure if that helps with anything or not.
My question is this: Any idea what kind of unlock they used, and also is there any way to unlock it permanently such that I can update the ROM?

[Q] Should I grab a GS6 from somewhere else?

Hello forum,
Like many of you I received my Galaxy S6 yesterday. After turning it on I naturally check the XDA forum to see if anyone had obtained root. I didn't realize that root may not even be possible, not to even mention custom ROMs. I wanted to know if it would be advisable to go and buy the T-Mobile version, should I buy an internationally version, or should I wait and hope the boot loader can be unlocked? I really miss Cyanogenmod on Samsung device for a true super Nexus experience like how my GS3 was. Unfortunately, I bought the GS4 and had my boot-loader locked down so the best I could do was Safestrap and the Google Play Edition Rom by Joe-Tech, but I still long for the feeling of the device truly being mine. Another concern is that anytime I had a real issue with the phone, like if I bricked it, or if the charging port stop working I could take it to the AT&T device store and just get a new (Samsung refurbished) phone. My 14 days are ticking away and I don't know what to do, I would really appreciate if some forum members could point me in the right direction. I signed up for the Next program with AT&T at Best Buy when I got it, so how would that be effected if I returned the device. Also, how do I use the menu key, if I hold the Recent key (the menu key) it just the multitasking window?
Thanks,
N7spaceuser
Bump.
Buy the unlocked version. SM-G920I. You can find it on eBay, thepowersellers.com, and a couple other places. Works perfect on AT&T, LTE and all. Unlocked bootloader, no bloat, faster updates, no AT&T bs. What are you people doing buying from AT&T?

Sim Unlock After Rooting?

Hey guys,
Long time lurker(since note 2 days) but first time posting.
I finally gave up on AT&T root progress of the Note 4 and bought a used N910T. My question is, can I go ahead and root the device, and still be able to sim unlock it afterwards? I wanted to start playing with it now, but payday is not until tomorrow for me to buy an unlock code online. Just want to make sure I will still have the ability to enter the sim code after rooting, flashing TWRP, flashing roms and such. If anyone knows, couldn't really find a definitive answer anywhere.
Thanks!
Edit-Should have originally, and will ask in the Noob Friendly Help Thread. Sorry! :silly:

I have nothing that confirms "officially" this but I worked at T-Mobile for 2ish years and unlocked plenty of phones that were rooted. I believe the unlock for sims occurs at the carrier level and the superuser access status of it would be irrrelevant, which would also coincide with the reasoning behind sim unlocks (money for carriers) rather then say android pay root blocks (security issue).

Affordable unlocking service for Tmobile Note 7?

I usually have every phone unlocked through Tmobile with no problem. Even new ones with Jump On Demand. They have been giving me nothing but a hard time for the Note 7. Is there a quick affordable company that will unlock my phone?
I was asking the same question, it seem as the group gave up on root the note 7 with the new update
If you're rooted there is an unlock method. Just do a Google search.

Yeah unfortunately im not rooted because my phone took the new update
I got them to Unlock 3 N7s , granted it took 5 calls. Its a lot easier now for both parties using the pre-installed unlock app. Just said the usual, traveling .

T807A unlocked bootloader - success

Not sure if I transgressed or not.... but I paid attunlockcode.com $29.00 and got an unlock code for my AT&TTab S. Just tried it and it seems to have worked. Has anyone else come across these guys? They are a Chinese website, it took about 10 days to get the code after I ordered it. I have since found other sites that claim the same thing, but these are the guys I used: www.attunlockcode.com..... http://attunlockcode.com/
Now what to do with my Tab S with the f**ked up LP I am fixing! Suggestions?
I think you are confused
I am almost certain you only unlocked the network bud, not the bootloader.
Sorry to break this to you, but you can't unlock the bootloader with a code.

Unlocking an EE Pixel 4XL Early?

I've just got my new 4XL. Unfortunately, I moved from O2 (who are relatively friendly to hackers) who allow you to unlock your bootloader from day 1.
Having opened my box and turned on my new phone with EE... I see that they don't allow unlocking for 6 months (tied to SIM/carrier lock). Big disappointment.
These days my reasons for unlocking and rooting aren't as dire as they used to be because Android 10 on a pixel actually has a lot of inbuilt mods now. However, I'm really missing my Viper4Android.
Has anyone ever used one of these online unlocking services which claim to be able to unlock your phone early? Do they work? They seem potentially dodgy to me...
Anyone with any experience?
any luck with this?
