Okay, so here's the deal.
I have an AT&T HTC One that was running 4.4 Kit Kat (Click: this ROM) and is S-OFF via RumRunner. I am running the latest TWRP recovery.
Yesterday I got prompted for an OTA and accepted it (in the past, with GPE ROMs, it would just reboot to recovery and do nothing). This is the only way I know of to get rid of the annoying "System update available" notification. I figured it wouldn't do anything and I would simply reboot and be good for a few more days until it prompted again. Low and behold, it actually updated my phone to 4.4.2.
Now, I'm having some issues.
I was a user of DashClock Widget...but now I use Better DashClock. However, this app is now prompting me to download a key. When I try to download the key from the Play Store, I get the message:
Error: Couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card.
SwiftKey Keyboard has the same issue.
Other apps (such as ES File Explorer, ESPN, Fandango, etc. update just fine).
-------------
I have read a bunch of posts that suggest cleaning up temp files (which don't exist on my phone) and to download SELinux Mode Changer and change the mode to Passive...but to no avail.
Can someone help me? Is this the developers issue or did my phone do something wonky?
Thanks!
Exactly the same problem here. I've narrowed it down to paid apps that won't install. Followed the same possible solutions in the 1st post, nothing works. HTC One GE 4.4.2.

I had a similar problem. I downloaded the 4.4.2 OTA update and tried flashing it with TWRP three different times. All three times I got that same error message with some apps. It was extremely frustrating. I ended up flashing the stock 4.4 recovery and then flashing the update. It worked perfectly and the problem went away. I then reflashed TWRP.

I had a similar experience. Paid apps would not install from Play Store. Amazon app store or F-Droid apps would install.
But my journey was that I had a 4.4 GPE device suffering through an issue where I can't get my bootloader to unlock. So when 4.4.2 came out I wasn't getting the OTA so I tried flashing just the firmware package from the OTA download. That's when I was getting this error (after a factory reset).
But then next day I got the real OTA and after that the problem went away. So for me it was a firmware issue in that it wasn't the right firmware for my OS.
Weird that you are running 4.4.2 but having this issue. Any chance you didn't come to have 4.4.2 the "natural" way?

Yeah...my process was as natural as possible.
I was on 4.3 at first...so when I was going to 4.4 KitKat I first flashed back to some basic stock Sense ROM to run RumRunner and attain S-OFF. Then I COMPLETELY NUKED my phone and went to 4.4 KitKat. Had no problems, got the OTA, and now this.
It's aggravating, that's for sure.
I really don't want to completely wipe my phone again and have to re-setup all of my home screens, etc.
I received the OTA which installed despite me having TWRP, not stock recovery (as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48586329). Now I have the same issue installing paid apps (the ones I had already installed before the OTA disappeared off the device).
Short of starting from scratch, I'm at a bit of a loss for a solution...
Nick
Sounds like this is wide-spread...or at least amongst the people who are running newer GPE ROMs on their Ones.
im having the exact same issues here

Can you point me to where you got the stock recovery from please?
Fixed
It looks like this is all to do with custom recovery and OTA updates. I have TWRP installed. This morning I flashed stock recovery. I then put the OTA update file on the phone storage. Then booted into the stock recovery (which is the first time I've seen it, it would be nice if it was the last as it's tricky to get into), then flashed the 4.2.2. update from there. Once I booted the phone again all my paid apps reappeared. No data lost in the process. I'm not sure if going back to TWRP not will cause the problem again, so for now I'll stick with stock recovery....

This.
Also, you left 4.4.2 on the device and just 're-applied' the OTA update? Or did you go back to a NANDROID backup of you on 4.4 or 4.3?

Here you go! I can't remember the thread where I found it, so the file is attached. Just to be clear, this is the stock Android 4.4 recovery for the HTC One GPE.

Yeah, that's about it. I used adb to flash the stock recovery to replace TWRP, then used the stock recovery to flash the same update you linked to. After it was done updating I reflashed TWRP. And don't forget to make a nandroid.
Thank you! Will report back when I'm done!
What is the fastboot command to flash the OTA zip file?
I'm back on the stock recovery...phone is still booting/working so I just need to do the OTA part now.

Sorry, hectic day at work. I should have said that I applied the update with the stock recovery. Not fastboot.
I basically used the guide linked below to flash the update.

What if you don't have an "apply from adb" option?
I have:
- reboot system now
- apply from sd card
- apply from phone storage
- apply from cache
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
Can't I just open a ADB shell while on the fastboot USB option?
Hi,
I've just upgraded the OS of my HTC One to 4.4 with Sense 5.5 and rooted the handset.
I took the majority of information and downloads from here:
http://htconeroot.com/htc-one-stock-roms/android-4-4-kitkat-sense-5-5-stock-rom-for-htc-one/
while the rooting stuff I grabbed from here:
http://htconeroot.com/htc-one-root/how-to-root-htc-one-windowsmaclinux/
So ok this is my 3rd OS upgrade with root so in a basic sense I did this:
- Updated TWRP to version 2.7.x
- Used TWRP recovery WIPE option to format / (root)
- Installed the 4.4 stock ROM from above link
- TWRP then asked me if I would like to root the device and so I said ok to that
- Booting into the OS everything was fine and I had the SU-Root icon in the Apps menu
I'm not sure what happened if the battery got drained or so but in anycase after a restart the handset was no longer rooted??
As I have the 2.65 SU-ROOT Zip file on my storage partition I went back to TWRP and Install then clicked on the Zip file and re-rooted the device; then wiped the cache and booted back into the OS.
For some reason now the phone isn't able to be rooted at all? I am pretty sure I had similar behavior with Android 4.3, though the initial stock build was absolutely fine.... I think I managed to get from 4.1 to 4.2 successfully.
Will I need to format the handset again then re-install the ROM and re-root or is something else going on which I'm unaware of??
I've also noticed that the device becomes un-rooted each time the battery goes low or dies for some reason... a persistent root would be nice as I have many apps needing full root access; not to mention being able to work with the full Android system too.
Would anyone be able to suggest anything? Thanks!

After I updated my sisters phone to EMUI 3.1 (android 5.1.1) the phone became pretty much unusable. Even after reinstalling all apps or a factory reset, apps keep crashing. E.g. facebook loads up and is usable but just freezes after a few seconds and then crashes. Already contacted Huawei but no luck. Does anyone have tips, or should we just wait for the next update to patch things up? Thanx in advance

It happened the same to me! Nothing is working right now. Google chrome, the alarm, facebook, youtube, everything crashes! I made a hard reset and installed the apps again but nothing to do!
How can I fix the problem and have my beautiful phone back?
Shame on Android 5, I want go back to Android 4.4.2!
Please help!

Factory reset and don't install facebook app.

Guys, i have the same probçem with my p7. Everything worked propperly before the update D:
I looked everywhere but nobody seem to have an answer, i think we will have to wait till the next update
Same for me
Same problem for me, after the update, Google Play Services threw an error, I cleaned that apps cache and performed a reboot, after which that problem seemed to be solved. However some apps (especially the facebook one), just freezes when scrolling through the app
Hopefully this can be resolved quickly, as the phone was operating just fine before the update.
i have the same problem after 5.1.1 update.
the phone crashes all the time..
any sugestions?
Same problem here. After update several apps freeze while using. Especially facebook, alarm (clock) and the speach messages on WhatsApp. We have tried wiping the cage and factory reset already. Device is not rooted and runs stock firmware, update was ota.
I have that problems too, please help.
Even before crashing, fb videos doesnt load...
I tried wipe partition reset, which seems it has wirked on note 4, but for ne it hasn t worked
Same problem here... all apps get frozen after a few seconds (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat...) and even the alarm or internal apps are not working well. When do you think it will arrive a new update?
I hope they will release a new update or patch soon. My girlfriend's smartphone is quite useless now.
Same problem here!
Well my phone is not crashing, tho it did just a few times maybe in 2 weeks. Nothing too serious. But it is a little bit buggy, and kinda slow. Hope they fix all this

Nothing, i did a force update to B800 and then to B621 because miss the app updater. Now i'm on 830 and still waiting a real stable beta..
-Sorry but I'm learning about this Android world. Can you tell me how did you do this force update to B800, please?
Force update is a different way to start the update. So, download B800, extract the update.app file on PC (no on file manager of the phone because then don't work), after that create a folder called "dload" and put the UPDATE.APP file here. Turn off your phone and press vol+, vol- and power buttons all together, in this way will start the process of upgrade( or downgrade like this). before restart of phone the dload folder with update.app inside has to be put on the root of the sdcard or the internal storage..

Unfortunately I couldn´t "downgrade" the EMUI version from 3.1, but I could change from B832 to B830. Still can't get root access. For now, I'm gonna try this version and if I find something wrong, I'll try to change to B800 (as transitional rom) and go back to B621, as the instructions above.

OK, I don't want to root the phone or install a custom recovery, because my girlfriend doesn't want to void her warranty. I'm just looking for a way to reverse the last update and get back to the stock android version before, because with the last update she got lots of problems with her phone.

My wife's phone after upgrade to B830 has some problems but the one most critical is with the audio service.
If you turn off sound, vibro or total silence, sound does not work at all, even after you turn it back on.
When you enter ringtone choosing settings you can't get out, phone stucks, you can't go to alarm clock, also - you are stuck here, nothing works, you can't change alarm time etc...
Phone calls make no sound, just vibro. Only way to get out of this is to reboot a phone.
Can i fix it without doing full factory reset?
Hi all
I had a VIE-L09 running software C40B181 (C40 is Telefonica, or O2UK)
I used Firmware Finder to download and install B330 (listed as FullOTA-MF) which worked fine, but then I realised I couldn't use Android Pay any more. Everything else was working though, albeit with fairly poor battery life.
Last week I thought I'd tackle this, so I read up and found that I could "debrand" to C432, go back to B181 on that customer, and then let it OTA up to Nougat.
I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP (had to use a different one, the usual one listed in the P9+ threads gave a black screen but apparently this happens on other Nougat Huaweis too, I found a better TWRP for something like the regular P9 which worked OK.
I then tried a couple of methods to root, the first just failed (installing SuperSU via TWRP) so I tried Magisk (?) which - HORROR - made my phone bootloop.
After many hours, with only access to Fastboot, I managed to flash the stock Nougat Recovery (the MM one just hung), downloaded the C40B330 UPDATE.APP again and flashed it by putting it in dload via an SD Card adaptor for my PC. Very long process but it got my phone booting.
Except now, it has no Bluetooth or NFC, all the stock apps are missing, there's not Update in settings any more.
I believe this is due to the other .zip files that Firmware Finder can download, the three it gives me are are update_data_full_hw_eu.zip, update_data_full_hw_normal.zip and update_data_full_tef_normal.zip
How do I apply these three zip files as it looks like these have the stock apps at least, and I feel they'll get the Bluetooth and NFC working too. I no longer have TWRP, can I somehow install them with stock recovery? The _tef one is 1.28GB and includes another UPDATE.APP file but installing that via dload does very little.
What was very embarrassing is that a Huawei rep got hold of my phone as I was in a store asking if they could fix it.... he started quizzing me where I got B330 from. Nothing he tried worked, mainly because it's all missing! For example dialling the *#*#2846579#*#* doesn't do anything on my phone, the diag app is missing....
Same
I have the same problem... i also cant install twrp anymore...
if you found a solve please write me
[email protected]
I had this problem too,
I got VIE-L09C40B334 finally, previously I was running B181 ON O2UK.
The problem you face is that in order to install the update_data_full_tef_normal.zip, you have to have TWRP and in order to flash it as a zip.
I lost all my apps, bluetooth, NFC and keyboard!.
after flashing the zip, it all returned.
try to flash official rollback package it work well for in case something went wrong you can go back with this package
Rollback installed TEST-KEYS for me! That's even worse!
It's no longer my daily phone, I got so frustrated with the stupid firmwares and customer locking that I bought a Pixel XL. I've not thrown the phone away so when I'm less angry I'll dig it out and try and fix it so I can sell it on.....

Out of interest, does Android Pay work?
When I first installed B332, everything worked great (keyboard, NFC, bluetooth, apps, that diagnostic mode you get by dialling a number) apart from Android Pay blocked my card as it said it was a custom ROM.
It was only my efforts to get a non-custom ROM that led me to break everything else!
Hi guys, like the title says. I'd like to flash OK Pie onto my old but still working P9 but after so, so much time i have forgotten everything I did to my phone to get to where I currently am. I've been searching for specifics to my situation but the guide to go from EMUI 8 to OK Pie is complicated enough as it is. If I have to factor in the "back to stock" procedure etc I think my brain would explode xD
So I'm looking for any links, guides, personal help or WHATEVER may help me at least get to chinese OREO 9I think I'm capable of taking it from there)
My current setup:
EVA-L09
Build number: EVA-L09C432B378
EMUI version: 5.0
Android: 7.0
My phone is from Latin America, So IIRC I unbranded it, changed it to cust 432 and flashed the latest (stock) firmware which at the time was B378.
I also have TWRP (the latest one) installed. If I got it right, I THINK I need to go back to stock recovery, flash the latest FW and go to Chinese OREO from there before trying to flash OK Pie, right?
Could somebody please be so kind as to either help me or at least point me to a thread/guide made for idiots such as myself xD that can walk me through the steps of going from my FW to stock recovery and stock latest FW?
I'll manage to get to oreo and custom after that.
I appreciate your help in advance.
Thanks.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that yes. I kept my unlock code so thats no problem
Thanks again!

General link for Open Kirin ROMs
https://openkirin.net/user_guide/openkirin-rom-installation-instructions/
P9 thread for OK ROMs (under the P9 ROMs, Kernels... collection)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/roms-openkirin-aosp-collection-t3828806
In short:
1) You must rebrand and update your L09c432 Nougat to AL10c00 Oreo, it is PRECISELY explained in the OP posts (mainly the post #2, but read #1 - #5 to get better picture) in the corresponding thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-eva-t3820849
2) Once you will be on EVA-AL10c00b540 Oreo, you have to follow the OK installation guide from the first link.
You will have to install OK Omni Pie for Android 8, not for Android 9 (there is no stock Pie for P9)
If you search for Pie in the given two XDA threads (Search box at top- right on any XDA page), you will find that many people have undergone (and some returned back from OK Pie to stock Oreo) with no problems - but it is important to carefully follow the guides, first for rebranding and installing the Chinese stock Oreo, then to install OK ROM EXACTLY as described on their site (common guide for all OK ROMs and for all Huawei phones when already updated to the stock Oreo)

Hi, thanks for replying. I'm aware of the PROCEDURE not so sure about the "how to".
Thats why I posted. Your post basically told me what I already knew (and talked about in my post)
What I'm looking for is help going from my current TWRP/STOCK/ROOTED FW. Back to full stock so I can start updating the ORIGINAL FW. I can't find any info on how to go back to stock recovery for instance. Do I need a specific recovery for the FW I'm running? Is it generic? Where do I find it? How do I flash it? Where do I get the stock firmware? (Huawei firmaware finder?) Which one do I flash? Does flashing the stock firmware automatically flashes the stock recovery? Things like that. I appreciate you trying to help but I already read and knew the things you linked to. My issue is, like I said: going back to stock before I can follow any guide to go up to oreo.
Thanks anyway!

If rooted by Magisk, there is Uninstall option in Magisk Manager, it will unroot.
Similarly SuperSU had an Unroot/Unistall option.
In both cases you can flaslh back the stock Boot partition but it is cleaner to unroot by using their Uninstall options.
From TWRP or Fastboot you have to flash stock Recovery (corresponding to your current stock Nougat firmware) to revert back from TWRP
Generally, if you download from FirmwareFinder update.zip corresponding to your current stock Nougat (must be from FullOTA-MF or FullOTA-MF-PV), unzip, then by using Huawei Update Extractor, you can extract Boot.img and Recovery.img that you can flash then from Fastboot or from TWRP to go back to stock Boot and to stock Recovery
Once you go back to stock Boot and Recovery, you can boot to eRecovery (switch off, connect to charger, keep pressing Vol+ and boot by Pow) and choose Download latest firmware and recovery
----
But in fact, since you already have TWRP, use the HWOTA method from this post to update to c432b504 or b505:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75787151&postcount=2
You can do the same with HWOTA7 from the corresponding thread I gave you (before you will go to rebrand to AL10c00b399).
In both cases, you have to download three update*.zip files for eg L09c432b504 (must be FullOTA-MF), rename one or two of them as described in the OP posts (be careful, some people have Windows 10 that hides zip extension and they wrongly rename files to have double zip extension and then HWOTA/HWOTA7 scripts cannot find the file and fail to flash resulting with half-brick), put them to DLOAD file on the SD card and follow the guides

Thank you. Thats exactly what I was looking for. I really appreciateyour help.
Btw, no one should have the "hide extensions for known file types" checkbox marked...
Edit: Should I flash the same FW version Im currently using and then update regularly? To prevent any issues? (Cause i noticed there are some rules as to the version jumps that can be made flashing like this...

It must be the same model and cust, c432, but safer if you also apply the same build number (b387 ?)
Once you are back on stock you should start receiving OTA updates (have WiFi and a valid SIM card). Give it some time but check also manually from Settings / System updates.
As mentioned in my previous post, you can also use eRecovery / Install latest fw and recovery (if OTA coming slow), and there is a similar option in HiSuite. You will probably not need to use HWOTA or HWOTA7 to jump from clean stock b386 up to b50x

Did you go for OK Pie (or you stayed on Nougat, or in between on stock Oreo b540), was it Okay?

Hi again. First of all I would like to thank you agaib for your help. You made the process so much sinpler and quixk for me and I do apprexiate it.
Second, I updated to the latest "original" fw for my c432 phone OTA but then had to modify the HWOTA7 procesa so I could dl and install the latest/latest fw (because it wouldnt even register when searching for it) I used huawei fw finder to verify it and dl.
After that I went to chinese Oreo, flashed the network fixes and installed a TINY OTA update which fixed some sexurity issues apparently (thankfully it went Ok cause I THINK flashing OTA in a "converted" phone is a big nono?)
Anyways, I ended up on omni pie (the latest beta whixh is 5.2 I believe) as going AOSP was the whole point of this endeavor.
So far I'm LOVING it. Its such a refreshing thing not having to deal with all the bs OEMs bake into their roms... But Im experiencing a couple of issues as well. Not sure if its the rom, my phone or the android version (particularly my issue with battery life since I was having issues with the duration way before I updates, actually that was one of my motivations for updating since I read that pie had better battery management)
Anyway, my issues are as follow. Hope you can help (once again)
Battery life SUCKS (like really, it went from bad to terrible... Not sure if stock oreo would make it better, or perhaps omni pie needs some optimizations?)
The camera (huawei one, not sure about the aosp) has issues. Multiple issues. The biggest one being that if I try to go from back to front camera the app locks in a black screen and I have to go into the app, delete data, reboot the phone and relaunch it (and that doesnt fix it everytime)
The last issue is with pop messages from apps and/or settings. Sometimes, when installing and app and/or changing aome setting a white popup shows up with ONLY an OK option. I cant read anything on the popup. Everything is white. Not sure if its an issue with the theme (I changed from default to "hell" or something like that) but it is VERY annoying not knowing what youre agreeing to.
Last but not least I have a question about the stock rexovery, factory reset and flashing new versions of omni (if and wheb they come out)
In one of the steps for flashing omni the guide asks to perfomr a factory reset from the stock rom. Thing is, it doesnt work. I mean, when I confirm the factory reset the process starts and approximately at 15% an exclamation sign appears and the process percentage stops working. I can reboot the system and everything works fine (using the phone to post this actually) but Im left with that feeling of not knowing why something failed... You know what I mean? Is that nornal?(the failure to factory reset, not the feeling ) also, does factory wiping the phone removes root access? Or does it only renove magisk manager?
Also, if I ever wabt to update the rom (not change it mind you, but flash the next beta or stable or whatever they come up with) do I need to flash the stock recovery again? (Currently rooted with magisk) or is it a separate partition? (Sinxe I had to modify the ramdisk and not flash a custom recovery) also, will I need to do the whoooole thing again? (Backup everything, restore tk factory etc etc) or is it just like with lineage for exanple where you could flash and updatr and keep your data untouched?
Thanks for EVERYTHING my friend. And I hope you can answer my questions (particularly the ones about battery life and thebfactory reset issue since Im planning on doing one last factory reset before settling with the rom. Just waiting for my new micro sd. The one that will stay in the phone)
Sorry for the typos. Writing this huge post on a phone is a PITA.

This small OTA bringing Patch02 over b540 installs even over TWRP (but that was not the case for OTA from eg b535 to b540)
Cannot discuss/compare battery for Omni Pie, since not using Omni
Problem with Camera app does not show on stock Oreo. Even if the app was somehow ported from Huawei, there are maybe problems with integration to Omni.
Various Huawei/Mate models come with different cameras, but there is only one OK Omni ROM (with one Camera app) given to work on all Huawei/Mate models
Btw, somebody else also complained about issues with Camera (and GPS) and decided to go back to stock Oreo.
Similarly, issues you described about black notifications or so must be related to the custom ROM, theme or so.
As a general rule:
- for installing OK ROM, you flash System partition, and nothing else
- you also wipe Data partitiom (containing all your installed apps, incl Magisk Manager, also containing your user settings)
It does not affect any other partition.
Therefore, changes given by NW patch persist - without, you will have (also in that OK ROMs) problems with SIM card(s) and connecting to the network
Also, Magisk, which was flashed to Ramdisk, persists. You must only install Magisk Manager again, because it is user apo, installed to Data partition that was wiped
You must check on the OK side how they advice installing the updates of OK ROMs
(It is questionable if they will get updates any more, since OK team switched to development of ROMs which install over the stock Pie, whereas on P9 you have no stock Pie - only Oreo, and most likely, we will never see stock Pie for P9.
Just check when OK team released last ROM for stock Oreo, and compare with their releases of OK ROMs for stock Pie:
https://openkirin.net/download/
Hence IMO, for updating the OK ROM (if/when it comes), you will again just need to flash its System and to wipe Data (and then to reinstall user apps like Magisk Manager).
Hopefully, you can backup and restore some apps and settings by Titanium.
Whether you don't need to wipe Data for such update - check from the OK support.
On the Open Kirin site you will find Support pages (Faq, HowTo) and also a link to the live Telegram channel
