Only fastboot accessible

Hi there, first time post on XDA
I believe my problem to be similar to the one found here posted recently but wasn't sure of protocol and didn't want to hijack the thread.
In short, all I can Access is fastboot.
I was attempting to downgrade from lollipop with Emui 3(ish) to KitKat with Emui 2.3. Whilst Trying to follow the weird downgrade upgrade process (I'm used to flashing .zips on my HTC rather than .APPs) of using the intermittent packages to go between releases I seem to have soft bricked it.
I have a number of UPDATE.APP files (B609, 620, 805, 839) and at some point one of them was working. I have since run all of these through the Huawei Update Extractor and extracted the Boot and Recovery images for each build.
I can use "fastboot flash [boot/recovery] [img file here]" perfectly fine and am told that everything finished OKAY when flashing a recovery and boot for a specific build however I am still unable to access any other partitions, either by holding down the hardware buttons ( vol + & power for recovery, vol + & vol - & power for the Huawei thing).
When using the extractor tool I am given and image and an image header file for each partition, I have been discarding the image header file and only flashing the image, it this the correct thing to do?

P.s I have an SDcard and I can easily put the UPDATE.apps on there in a dload folder but that is no help as I cannot access the recovery area which forced updates from this file.

Do you remember, if the last working firmware was based on lollipop (B8xx) or kitkat (B6xx)?
You may then extract system.img/cust.img/userdata.img/boot.img/recovery.img of a B6xx or B8xx based rom and flash it in this order through fastboot. (make sure to use the full rom, B620 is also available as an update I think, so just have a quick look on the file size)

Thanks for your response, I've done as you suggested, using Build 839 as I think lollipop was the last working.
There seems to be no difference with the phone. Still the only accessible area is fastboot and when rebooting through fastboot the phone reboots and appears to hang on the boot logo. I'll try a KitKat build now for completeness, is it worth trying different build versions of Lollipop?
Edit: Tried B609 now too, no success.

Hm, sad to hear that. B805 was a beta firmware, so there's a small chance that it may work. Sorry, I have no other idea what do try at the moment. So I'd just attempt it.

I appreciate your help anyway I'll go through and attempt to flash some others the same way.
I am left with a few questions though:
1. Why the need to flash in a specific order, or is that just standard practice?
2. What are the use of the header files that are also obtained when using the extractor tool?
3. Where has your knowledge of the Huawei firmware variants come from - Is it from a database of all released builds and type of release?

1) Somebody once told me to keep that order, and I hadn't any problems since, so I stick with it. Anyway, I'm not sure if the order is important, but I doubt changing it would help.
2) I have no idea. But I didn't use them, and flashing still went fine, so I don't think they're the problem. Maybe someone more experienced can help you there.
3) There is none, unfortunately. So it was basically just trial & error, I nearly lost hope to recover my phone minimum two times, but was lucky in the end. Often the problem is, that you have to go the "big steps" (emui2.3 to 3.0 to 3.1, or sometimes between L10, and L00/L03 roms) per dload. Flashing any rom of another "big version" per twrp/adb results in a not working system. But your problem seems worse, since you can't even access the recovery.

Problem with installing Nougat firmware and apps onto Huawei P9 EVA-L09. Please help!

I'm just wondering if anybody can help me please?
I have a UK Huawei P9 EVA-L09 with Marshmallow currently on it (B166) build I think. It is unlocked and has TWRP 3.0.2.0 Recovery installed on it.
I would like to upgrade to Nougat 7.0 and EMUI 5.0, but most of my attempts have failed and I have had to use the rollback method to get back to Marshmallow.
I have tried to do it by flashing an Update.zip and subsequent EU_Apps package.zip through TWRP to no avail.
I have also tried the 'Dload' folder method, also to no avail. The closest I've gotten is to build no B378, but it shows up as NRD90M Test-Keys on the Build No in the phone settings instead and all apps such as camera, NFC, Bluetooth are missing / not working etc. Trying to then flash the EU_Apps package through 'Dload' method doesn't alleviate the problem of missing apps.
Does anybody have any tips for what I could try to get it onto a working Nougat build with apps please?
Also, if anybody has any links to any relevant firmware etc, then that would be very helpful too.
I'm pulling my hair our trying to get this to work. Surely it's can't be that hard can it??

Is your phone branded? For a particular UK network I mean? And if so are you flashing ROMs for that network?
I don't know if that's the problem but I was on Vodafone UK B137 (which is Marshmallow) and flashed the 2 update zips for a Vodafone Nougat ROM thru TWRP and it was successful. I then flashed an updated zip using the "dload method" and that was successful too.
When you say you flashed the zips in TWRP "to no avail", what exactly was the end result?
Also might help if you give the full version of your starting ROM, and what zips you were trying to flash, ie full names and sources.
I'm kinda new to this device forum but seems like people get varying results with different flashing methods, for no particular reason either!

When I tried to flash .Zips through TWRP it kept coming up with errors and didn't flash them (something about being umnable to mount /System).
I was on EE UK, but found a method yesterday for debranding my phone and setting it to C432. I also managed to successfully flash C432B182 firmware on it.
I have since attempted to flash Nougat B360 using the 'Dload' method and now my phone keeps asking me to enter my password to decrypt storage. Multiple attempts to reset my phone and wipe cache partitian don't seem to be working. Do you have any idea how I can get around this?
It's so hard and it's so annoying how other people seem to be getting it right and mine is proving to be a swine. Makes me want to get rid of it to be honest and get something easier.

I'm concerned that this may be bricked right now. No amount of using eRecovery to reset the phone will stop it from going onto the dreaded 'enter password to decrypt storage' screen! I will see if I can re flash it using Fastboot, but I'm a bit concerned right now...

I have an O2 Branded one. I'm too chicken to mess with it in case I brick it!
Just waiting for the official UK O2 OTA update to arrive &

Probably advisable unless you absolutely know what you're doing and don't mind taking the risk. I'm a bit annoyed with Huawei and my carrier, they are always so slow with providing updates and Hmui 5.0 is only what Hmui 4.0 should have been in the first place. I'm done with these manufacturer's stupid over bloated overlays and will be going to an official Google phone in future!

If you can get it into fastboot mode, flash TWRP, then you should be able to progress from there, hopefully by at least formatting data to get rid of the encryption! Sounds like.a royal pita tho to be honest.
When I flashed to Nougat from MM using TWRP I got a bunch of error messages too, but it (eventually) booted up ok....

Hi again all.
Success! I finally managed to crack it.
I downloaded MM Firmware version C432B136 and used Huawei Extractor to extract the Boot.img, Recovery.img and System.img files and was able to boot into Fastboot mode fortunately. I used a Command Prompt to unlock the Bootloader again and flashed each .img file in line.
The phone booted up into the B136 firmware and I was then able to update OTA to B166, but not B182 strangely. So I downloaded a B182 version firmware and placed it in the 'dload' folder of the phone's S.D Card, before forcibly flashing it by holding volume up, volume down and the power button on boot up.
I subsequently used the below link, which showed me how to use Huawei Updater and HiSuite to update to B361 firmware.

Once on Nougat B361 firmware, my phone's update setting prompted me to update to the latest B378 firmware OTA.
Finally, to achieve Root status I followed the below guide and am now running root with SuperUser and BusyBox installed. I'm happy to report that both Nougat 7.0 and HMUI 5.0 are running smoothly on my phone and all features are working (i.e. Bluetooth, Camera and NFC) and performance and battery life are all noticeably better than ever.

[Help needed!] L09C635B361 can't update via either OTA or TWRP.

Hi guys, I am only a very junior user who randomly flash his phone but most of the time I want my phone to be stable for work. I have had the situation since the recent OTA available, suffered a lot, would like to seek any help or advice.
I have a L09C635B361, Japan version. I updated to Android 7 via OTA, then unlocked / rooted under the instructions in this forum, forgot which exact thread though. Never thought of flashing any customized rom so I haven't realized the update problem until the recent OTA update (from B361 to B382) released. I got the push, downloaded B382 OTA package, restart to TWRP, then the flash was failed in TWRP screen. Restart again, the system notified there was a recent update failure. Then I installed Firmware Finder, downloaded the 3 update zip files, restart back to TWRP, still failed installing. Please refer to the failure screenshot for detailed reson. I have no idea what it said and how I should do differently.
No other way to go, I backed up my system, then wiped my phone, reset to factory mode, but brand new system was very strange: only voice input, no keyboard, missing several key functions such as camera. So I have to restore to my previous system, everything worked well except I can't open "clock".
Right now I am looking at system notification of B382 all the time, but I can't figure out how to get it updated, I don't mind if there's a way enables me go back to stock rom, but it's really hard to find the stock firmware for C635......

Hey man, try follow this guide to debrand your phone (get onto C432). It will probably unroot you and get you back to stock firmware as well.

Thanks bro. I will try the entire process when I have a backup phone.

One more thing is when I first tried to wipe phone, failed for several times. Plus the TWRP flashing error, I have suspect that there's something wrong with my partition information or format error. Can anyone help me to eliminate the possibility by the screenshot please?

On the other hand, I found 3 zip files on Firmware for same version update. Which one should I flash? If I need to flash all of the 3, is there a sequence?

You flash those in the order they appear. Except the last one, don't flash that (I think). From what I know it's always been update.zip and then update_hw.zip.
I see you're going to flash hw_jp which is the Japanese cust, so ignore the advice above about debranding to c432 as that's essentially the same thing as what you are about to do with those files. (C432 is the European version, which is called update_hw_eu.zip)
Also the voice input only bug is well known. You need to rollback to marshmallow (I forget which firmware but there's a thread on it here somewhere) and then OTA back to nougat and it should fix it.

How to upgrade rooted SM-T719 from Android 6.0.1 to Android 7 or 8

Hi,
about 2 years ago I rooted my S2 Galaxy Tab (T719) and now I would like to upgrade from Android 6.0.1 to Android version to 7 or 8. I have googled for instructions on how to upgrade a rooted S2 Tab but did not find anything useful (most info is on OTA upgrades which no longer works on rooted devices). Could someone please post step-by-step instructions (please bear in mind that I only ever deal with this kind of thing once every 2-3 years so I do not have much experience). I have TWRP v 3.0.2 installed (do I need to update this as well?) and the tablet is not encrypted (so hopefully I won't have to wipe the system partition and re-install all the app?!?). Thanks.
I also noticed that there is now a huge variety of ROMs out there. How can one know which ones are trustworthy? The main reason I rooted the tablet was to be able to increase privacy (control app permissions with XPrivacy). So I do not want to install some custom ROM that maybe contains spyware or other compromising features. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Given my motivation (privacy) for rooting, would it maybe be better to go back to Stock ROMs (i.e. non rooted) and simply control web access via netguard (by preventing net access for some apps, they may still spy on my contacts, location, or email but cannot phone home to transmit the information)? At least I would still get OTA updates because being excluded from the OTA channel also poses a security risk in itself I suppose. Ok so any advice would be appreciated.

There is no official Android 8 for our device. If you want 8 or 9 you have to install a custom ROM like LuK1337's LineageOS port. It is as safe as LineageOS is by itself on any device. Only problem you might have then is that calling is not possible anymore for now, but LTE works. If you want to use LOS, you HAVE to format data because it's not compatible at all. If you wanna stay on official Android you might keep it. Installing is done by flashing the official firmware with the correct country code over Odin. This will remove TWRP at first so you have to reflash it by Odin afterwards. For firmware download I always use: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647 and Odin is found by google. If you wanna got the way to LOS you have to do all the steps I mentioned before too anyways to have a recent Modem firmware and bootloader. In that case you just have to flash LOS and OpenGAPPS by TWRP and delete /data aka Factory reset.
Regardless what you do, after ODIN is done, you HAVE TO boot into TWRP immediately to keep it from being removed by official firmware. While you are in there anyways you can install magisk to keep it from encrypting /data

Many thanks emuandco. So I guess I will stick with the Android 7 as I do not want to reformat the tablet and reinstall all the apps. I have started to download the Android 7 stock ROM, but it is taking quite long so in the meantime just to confirm, the steps to follow are:
1- use odin to flash the stock ROM (no steps required prior to this? I simply overwrite the existing ROM? I suppose that I will loose root then and need to re-root the device using the standard procedure as explained here: http://www.samsungsfour.com/tutoria...nougat-7-0-using-cf-auto-root-all-models.html ?)
2- use odin to flash TWRP (I will need the newest version I guess and cannot use the same as for Android 6?)
3- boot into recovery mode to ensure that TWRP does not get overwritten
4- done
Is this correct? Do I then need to reinstall Xposed, SuperSU and Xprivacy or will they be preserved?

Yeah, looks fine what you list there. You COMPLETELY overwrite ANY modification in kernel or /system, so reflash your mods and root (Magisk). I always recommend to uase the MOST recent TWRP. (https://dl.twrp.me/gts28velte/ should be it in your case).
Ah and looking at your manuals... Check OEM unlock just to be rather safe than sorry if things go mad.

How do I upgrade from an rooted and unencrypted OOS 5.0.4 to OOS 9.0.5?

So recently I've been thinking of upgrading my phone from Oreo to Pie now that it is available and has had a few updates.
Now I haven't updated my phone in a while. The last time was around the summer of 2018. The OxygenOS version my 3T currently is running is 5.0.4 and my TWRP is on version 3.2.3-0.
A while back I was using the custom ROM 'FreedomOS' (for anyone that still remembers) but that ROM hit it's EOL point last year.
After FreedomOS went EOL I switched to stock ROM following this guide to stay decrypted: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/disable-dm-verity-force-encryption-op3t-t3688748
Since I switched back to stock I haven't touched the system or recovery at all besides updating Magisk now and then.
Now the question I'm having is how do I update my phone to the latest Pie version of OxygenOS? Which is version 9.0.5 as of writing this post.
Preferably I would like to upgrade with a dirty flash to keep my data (if I run into issues after I'll clean flash) and I also want to stay dencrypted and have Magisk as root.

For your own sakes don't do that. You probably won't be happy unless you want to update to have bigger numer in info screen. (Well if you would like to update to have bigger number in info screen I would suggest editing some conf file to achieve that.)

Is the update that bad? If so, what makes Pie so much worse when comparing it to Oreo?

I've read through the thread a bit and notices this: "Important Note: If your device’s Bootloader is Unlocked, then installing this firmware will factory reset your phone as this is a firmware upgrade. All your personal data and app data will be wiped clean! So backup before flashing!"
Does this mean it will actually reset the entire phone and will wipe all of my apps and files? Is there not a way to dirty flash this new version without losing my apps and such?

In simple words phone is slower and hotter. Battery isn't better too (battery life for me was decreased from 5 to 3, 3.5 hours screen on time). You can find more on Oneplus forums.

i personally would suggest you to stay on oreo or jump to pie custom roms, just skip the oos 9.0.5..
the only thing that really fast and smooth just the face unlock feature :laugh:
as far as i know when you flashed stock oos your data will always be (re)encrypted, unless you do the firmware's patch things like you did before.
jumping (upgrade) from diff. android version it's better to do a clean flash (4 wipes, exclude int. storage will be saved)...and it's mandatory required (from stock to any custom roms). except when you forced to format data you'll lost all data in your phone, for sure.
and if you want to stay unencrypted and disable dm verity for good, it's better to do all that stuffs while on stock oos before you jump onto custom roms.
