unable to copy ROM to internal storage - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

I can't seem to copy my ROM (SlimDragons 4) to my internal storage. It appears to copy over but then it's smaller/corrupted and has a different MD5 result. I also tried ADB sideload but comes up with a daemon not running message, and ADB push appears to work on the command prompt but no file actually gets moved.
I've unlocked the bootloader and TWRP runs on it. Not sure if it's relevant but the settings in TWRP doesn't save so after a reboot all the settings I'd set (time, vibration, etc) are rest.
I'm using stock cable.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Hi, I was have same problem. I changed stock cable to a new cable. Then my problem is gone. Sory for bad English.

Thanks for that. I am naturally quite sceptical of that, but it's worth a try. Cheers.
Edit: I found wiping and formatting again seemed to do the trick with copying files. I finally got the ROM to work but it was only after I had an Error 7 with the zip file in TWRP, and I'd resolved that by installing the latest MIUI nightly, and immediately installing SlimDragons 4 on top (is that considered a dirty flash?).

[Q] Problems with rooting! Don't hate me

Hello all, sorry for creating another "Having trouble with root!" thread but the reading I have done hasn't been of much help. I began rooting my HTC One using QBKing77 (on youtube)'s method. All was going well, I successfully unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP. however whenever I go into TWRP i cannot backup my data. I get an error message that says backup failed. In the 'log' screen it says 'failed to mount data', or something along those lines. when i try to install superSU, which i copied onto my internal storage, it doesnt show at all. In fact, the folders i see are different, meaning I'm not in the actual storage that i usually see when i connect my phone to USB. So, i tried to mount the phone while on TWRP, and I saw the superuser zip file i transfered, but i cannot do anything with it. i tried to add it while mounted as i can see the folders, but it would not let me. i attached some screenshots. Hope i can get this resolved. Thanks in advance!
Looks like you used the wrong version of twrp you should use this one.

[Q] I accidentally wiped my OS - how to restore?

I had to use a factory reset to decrypt my phone. TWRP was asking a password (a known bug, nothing works) and I did a factory reset using TWRP. Now I get the message "No OS Installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?".
What is the easiest way to install OS? I want to use CyanogenMod and I have the latest build zip file. M7 doesn't support SD cards but I have OTG USB stick and I've copied cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-m7.zip there. I don't know if TWRP can recognize the drive. Windows doesn't currently recognize my device.
I don't have a recovery backup because decrypting my memory (stock encryption) apparently wiped that out.
Please help me, I have to get my phone up and running again!
TWRP 2.8.6.0
I found the folder "usb-otg" but TWRP doesn't recognize CyanogenMod zip file. I'm on the install menu.
Is it safe to turn off my phone now? Maybe I just turn off the screen and connect the phone to charger.

The file you have is 18 months old
look in the developer forums for something newer
you doing it right just copy the zip to the OTG and plug it into your phone and install it

Yeah, I just noticed that (does it matter?). Can you recommend me a relatively stable build?
What is usually the name for USB OTG device folder in file explorer? "Usb-otg" folder exists even when no device is connected to my phone. I don't think that TWRP recognizes the drive.
EDIT: I found my USB device!

Please tell me if it's safe to reboot my device now?
CM is now working fine, haven't noticed any issues. I still need Google apps.

Oops, now I'm snookered...I think need to load OS from TWRP

Yes, I know, I should have backed up...but did not. So, this TP, I cannot go into usb mode or recovery mode. For some reason, I get a weird 4 block pattern. Before I messed up, I was able to use TWRP 2.8.3 to load different gapps and roms in the ttinstall file by mounting. Well, I decided Lollipop was not quite what I wanted and wanted to go back to KitKat. Anyway, in my zeal of trying to fix what may be causing the recovery mode issue, I wiped everything and formatted everything...including the ttinstall file. I can still boot to twrp 2.8.3, but honestly, the sequence of invents I have tried to create a new folder called ttinstall and place in there rom and gapps, it will not load. In fact, I'm not sure where the twrp file is located. So, I would appreciate it if someone has detailed instructions beginning with opening twrp 2.8.3. What sd card to use and folder to create where, and so forth. I can mount the TP and load files via the pc, but I don't quite know where they actually go on the tablet. The device shows up as 1gb on the pc and this is a 32gb TP so I know I messed it up. I was spoiled by the TPToolbox when I was able to use the usb recovery mode and make all changes there.
Any help would be appreciated. I did do a search, but I have not found clear instructions for me. I even saw a youtube, but again, it was more confusing. Thanks.

Edit: Well, that was easy. I just set up the ttinstall folder, then copied the rom and gapps zip files there, unmounted, then selected install from the twrp menu (rom first then gapps), rebooted and presto...running again.

OP3T root problem - no OS installed

Hello,
I have a problem and I hope this is the right place for help.
I try my best to explain everything.
So I tried to root my OnePlus 3T.
Everything was going good. I installed TWRP and was able to use it.
Next I wanted to flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip.
I messed something up and wiped all my cache and my data.
I didn't noticed it at this point, so I tried to install SuperSU.
I don't know, if it was successful, but I guess not.
Then I restarted my phone and I stuck in bootloading. It was an endless loading until, my battery was empty.
I charged my phone up and was able to start TWRP.
Now I have my OnePlus 3T without an OS installed.
I downloaded the OS from OnePlus and tried to put it on my connected phone with the ADB Sideload, but my phone can't install ADB Sideload. So I can't put the OS on my phone to install it.
I don't know what to do and how I can put my OS on my phone.
One Idear was to put it on a USB Stick which fits in my phone, but I don't know.
I hope, someone can help me.
Sorry for my bad english, btw.
Boot into twrp and connect the phone to your notebook. If you can copy the OOS Rom to your phone, just flash it.
If not, you have to use the unbrick guide, just follow it and your phone should be alright again.
Boot into TWRP recovery and connect op3t to PC and move os to internal memory. Flash os from TWRP....

Do EXACTLY as this guy said. I had the EXACT same problem. I was doing a root, accidentally wiped everything including the OS, and thought I was ****ed. A little while later I went to the OnePlus website, downloaded the latest available OS and copied it over to my phone's internal memory while it was booted into TWRP. I then flashed it via TWRP and was good as new. Don't panic and you should be fine.
If adb sideload is not working. Then you can follow this method. Download adb tools from Google. Then their is a option of push the rom in the adb tools. Just keep the phone connected to notebook in twrp mode and then via that software push the rom into the internal of phone. Then just flash manually. It's done. I did this, as the same thing happened with me some days ago.

It doesn't working. I don't have my phone's internal memory, when I click on my OP3T and I can't copy the OS just on my phone.
It said that this folder is empy.
Is there a way to get into my root folders on my pc?

Okay, connected my OP3T with my computer and started my cmd and went to the adb folder.
It found my device when I typed in: adb devices.
then I tried to sideload the OS but it said:
"loading: 'OnePlus3TOxygen.zp'
* cannot read 'OnePlus3TOxygen.zip' *
I don't know, what I did wrong.

Don't use cmd, I told you to use a software named adb tools. Easily available on google. Search it.. Then follow the procedure. Just make sure that your phone is booted into twrp.
It is really not as easy as everyone says to root your phone. I had to do tons of research and it took a long time and the community was not helpful over at OnePlus and it was hard to find much good information here. And that is strange considering my past experiences at XDA. But, this is what I came up with and I should probably write a thread:
Use this video to guide you with your common sense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZaajUEybNM
Do not use the links provided in the video; instead use these links. That video is for another OnePlus device; the techniques are good but the files are bad. Simple substitution is all that is necessary and you can easily follow the directions with some commons sense.
Use this version of TWRP: https://dl.twrp.me/oneplus3t/
Get SuperSu here: https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/
Get Android Studio here: https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html#Other
I just got my device and this totally worked for me. I hope this fixes your problem.
Are you solve this problem now?
And my advice for u :
[pre]please don't use SuperSU,it is insecurity on new Android version.Maybe you can use phh's or LineageOS root zip.NOT AD!
[1]Reflash twrp with fastboot.
[2]Flash root zip what I said(mokee rom support inner root).
[3]Flash rom(maybe you can use Mokee or LineageOS or Slimrom or OxygenOS and so on)
[4]flash gapps with nano or pico.
If this not solve problem, please try to flash factory image with MsmDownloadTool.
I hope my advice can help you.

if you device is getting recognized when adb devices is typed
just do this CMD: adb push (drag and drop the file you want to push onto the cmd line) /sdcard/

When this happens, it means DATA partition is unmounted. You have to mount it in twrp. If you still can't see the internal storage with your pc then wipe everything, including internal storage and reboot into twrp and you should be able to see it this time.

Thanks for your help.
I must say, that I didn't tried it.
I downloaded the original Recovery from OnePlus and flashed it on my OP3t.
I went to the original recovery modus and used ADB sideload to install the normal OS.
Now it's not rooted but it works fine now.
Yeah that's really good.

I think I've ruined my one plus 3t

Hi all. Phone is rooted and unlocked. Have twrp installed. Made a twrp backup, downloaded a new ROM (aosp). Wiped phone as in op, flashed new ROM & gapps. Upon restating, phone asked for password. I'd made sure that I'd got rid of security seetings before making backup. Tried to reinstall backup, phone boots into startup screen, then again, asks for "to start android device, enter your password". Please help.
Try deleting this file in twrp using the file manager.
/data/system/locksettings.db

Hi many thanks....but when I go into file manager, there is no file for data????
I think I've killed the phone. Any way of completely wiping and starting again?
The 3 buttons at bottom of screen. When I press the right button, message I get is:
Failed to decrypt data.
Unable to decrypt with default password. You may need to perform a format data.
Updating partition details....
.....done
Unable to mount storage
Full selinux support is present.

Glad you came here, it is simple to solve this.
1. put your device into bootloader mode
2. connect your device to pc via usb
3. install minimal adb and open command prompt in that minimal adb folder.
4. enter command - fastboot erase userdata
5. solved. but sorry, it will wipe your internal memory too.
you can even try wiping data with twrp, but it'll usually won't work at this stage. so follow the command. cheers.

Simply flash supersu 2.79 from the XDA thread, everything will be back alright.
