Well, last year i've got a second hand s5, (im not from usa so i cannot update it using the OTA) i've updated it following a turorial in here (cant remember which one), to update to 4.4.2 and root it, after a factory reset i did later, couldn't root it anymore, idk why, now i want to update it to marshmallow, so i came back here to ask how can i do it, and following which tutorial, since i dont want to end with a brick, btw it is safe to do it, there's any improvement doing this, etc, thanks for any advice given

Do i need to root first in order to install the new update?
Nope just install the update with odin
---------- Post added at 11:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:52 PM ----------
Also only Android 5.0 and 4.4 are able to be rooted now
I got the version "G900AUCU2ANG3" i'll just go forward to the update G900AUCS4DQD1 (6.0.1)?, there's no risk of brick, or imei problems if i update? does it worth it?
No risk yeah it's worth it if you don't care about root
Which tutorial do i follow to install it with odin?

Hi All,
I'm wanting to root my Z1, problem is i'm a bit worried as I've not rooted a sony before and it appears a bit more involved than HTC / Nexus etc.
I'm on 4.4.2, bootloader is locked, phone is sim unlocked.
Can anyone recommend the best available process for this as I've seen a few possible solutions and just dont want to brick my phone !!!!
Many thanks
There is no any problem if you just follow the instructions on the specific thread, which I suppose you know which one, to root your 4.4.2 KK .757 FW.
Install DualRecovery, Flash Pre-Rooted KK by NUT. Done.
..and don't be paranoid......just flash it...lol..
---------- Post added at 03:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:44 PM ----------
..I forgot...before anything you have to flash via Flashtool the .534 FW then install Dual recovery and Pre-Rooted...Sorry ..my bad...sometime I get lost...too many things...lol...

That's for 4.4.2, which I can't find a root method for, without downgrading back to 4.2.2. Do you know of a way?
---------- Post added at 11:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:10 AM ----------
Or even a way to downgrade back to 4.2.2. I have rooted many Androids, first time stumped
im running 4.2.2 atm, I was hoping someone would post a nandroid backup of just the stock rooted rom so I can try to flash it in Twrp
Why not easily root with Towelroot or ioroot? It works on 4.2.2. Can you give me link to 4.2.2? All you have to do is down load the app lg phone from, it will give you a link to the rom. How do you flash rom with out being rooted?
---------- Post added at 07:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:16 PM ----------
You could take update and use app keep root. Then you would be rooted on 4.4.2. I bought phone already on 4.4.2, not knowing had to downgrade to root. Have method, but for some reason the LG kdz compiler crashes on my computer. If I could flash 4.2.2 then root, I would be good
---------- Post added at 07:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:20 PM ----------
Actually if someone posted a rogers 4.4.2 rooted, could I flash that using lg flash tool, then would I also be rooted on 4.4.2
Root can be achieved on either 4.2.2 or on 4.4.2 with towelroot. Don't have to downgrade. Just root with towel root.
---------- Post added at 06:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:41 PM ----------
Every time I update from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 I just use towel root to root my flex on KitKat. I don't see what the confusion is or why you are trying to downgrade if all you want is to obtain root KitKat. Towel root will root your flex on KitKat.

Ya Towelroot. Ioroot, and probably stump work for t-mobile, but not At&t, Verizon, or rogers, while on 4.4.2. Many threads talk about this

To be fair it's mainly you talking about it not working. A lot of other people were doing towelroot works for them on att. Not sure why stump isn't working the thread even says out should work on all devices from 2012-now.
At any rate I'll try to make that zip for you tomorrow if you can do something for me. Please report all these non development threads that are posted in the development section to get them moved. It's cluttering it up here. I would but I'm going i bed right now after i get your kdz downloading.
Have you tried framaroot or saferoot
Hi all,
New to the forum, made an account because I wanted to let you guys know what worked for me:
I've had my flex since November 2014, when I bought it to replace my g3 after dismally bricked while trying to boost the volume.
I just recently managed to muster up the courage to try to root my flex, and had a really hard time finding a root method that worked.
My flex is running 4.4.2, I'm with rogers, and if I'm not mistaken, my software version was something along the lines of D950G20b.
Towelroot said it was an unsupported device, as did stump root, even after trying to force it.
I finally managed to get root access using the root method for the g flex 2 from highonandroid. Unfortunately I cannot paste a direct link, but it can be found very easily by searching for the
following on google: highonandroid root lg g flex 2
I did have one hiccup during the root, after entering the step 11 after pasting the second command, where the indicator jumped to the next line but didn't move. I was able to get it to work
anyways by hitting Ctrl + c and then entering the two commands from step 11 again.
turned my phone off by holding the power button down for a few seconds, rebooted it, and voila, root access, verified by installing titanium backup.
I will be trying to install cwm in a few minutes via the "freedom flex" app found on the play store.
Hope this is at least a bit helpful to somebody!
Hi,
I've been on 4.4.2 on my Sprint Moto X for quite a while now.
I'm rooted and unlocked with a custom recovery.
I've been holding off on the 4.4.4 update but recently it started nagging me to update.
I read that it has a lot of bugfixes so I figured why now.
I hit install update but it can't because of the custom recovery.
What is the process of upgrading to 4.4.4 if I'm on a custom recovery?
I searched for a tutorial but couldn't find one.
If someone could post a link that would be really helpful.
Thanks
You have 3 choices.
1. Flash stock recovery only, and as long as you've changed nothing else in the system, you should be able to take the ota.
2. Use fastboot/mfastboot and flash 4.4.4...if the sbf files are out.
3. Use RSDLite and flash 4.4.4...again, if the files are out.
This guide, under returning to stock covers all this. ☺

As far as this site goes, 4.4.4 Sbf isn't out yet.

Not sure if there are other sources.
If not, option 1 is your only choice right now.
Hi guys
i am on 4.4.3 in moto x and i received 4.4.4 for ota but i cant update because i unlocked bootloader and twrp in recovery,
how do i install 4.4.3,
i think install a recovery stock but i did not find recovery stock for 4.4.3 only for 4.4.2
or reinstall all stock for 4.4.2 make it downgrade.
what do you think?
You can likely find 4.4.3 firmware or even 4.4.4 and flash it manually from the links here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2923347
If you downgrade you could brick. If you successfully downgrade and take an OTA, you will definitely brick.
So not a wise choice. ?
Also, questions go in the Q&A section. For future reference. I'll ask this be moved. ?
---------- Post added at 10:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 AM ----------
This guide has sections for many tasks, including flashing firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603358
If you use the fastboot method, you could likely just flash your stock recovery once you get the proper firmware, and if you need to, mfastboot can flash the system image. Should be good for OTA then.
But again, if you find the 4.4.4 firmware for your model... Flashing it fresh manually is always my preference. ?
sorry i was think posted on Q&A,
so i install stock 4.4.3 and began wait for ota 4.4.4
or directly flash 4.4.4?
well, are not problem install directly 4.4.4 and blick mi phone?
***************
sorry i dont see the continuation answer
so, i try to find the 4.4.4 fw for mi motox and flashing via rsd??

If you find the proper 4.4.4 for your device, that's how I personally prefer to do it.
Be aware it'll wipe your device with RSD though. Apps, pics, music, whatever... Gone . So you can move anything you want to keep to your PC.
Using the fastboot /mfastboot method will not wipe your stuff. Pics, music and everything. As long as you don't erase or flash userdata. Apps still gone though.
Your choice. See the guide I linked for instructions.
Good luck!
And once on 4.4.4...you can not ever downgrade.
thanks, i didnt find 4.4.4 for mi device only 4.4.3 the same like i use today,
i can use rds for flash the 4.4.3 and wait for ota without any problems?
I'm pretty sure only the XT1053 aka TMobile/Developer Edition has a 4.4.3 firmware. Everyone else went from.4.4.2 straight to 4.4.4.
You can confirm by checking About and looking at firmware version it should end with Retail.en.US
If you just need the 4.4.3 recovery to flash and upgrade you can find it in the 4.4.4 OTA thread here under Reminders: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/xt1053-4-4-4-ota-update-zip-t2885484
If you want the 4.4.4 firmware you can find it in this discussion second post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/help-xt1053-half-downgraded-t2934605
Yup ?
Same warning, RSD will erase everything on your phone. It will be as it was the day you bought it.
thanks
@dtg7 a screenshoot
mi device has Retail.en.US.
so if i understand, i can put directly 4.4.4 from this post??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/help-xt1053-half-downgraded-t2934605
If you are T-Mobile, yup.
---------- Post added at 12:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:42 PM ----------
Not another carrier.
really not, im from mexico and use telmex but really i dont why t-mobile.
I would wait for your firmware, unless someone confirms T-Mobile will work for you. If your radio doesn't work, or anything else, you'll be stuck on T-Mobile 4.4.4 and won't be able to then flash your stock 4.4.3 anymore.
Patience. You aren't really missing out on anything. ?
@Darth thank really i want update because the ota update appear and that's annoying, but well i try with 4.4.3 flash rsd and wait for ota in stock
well if i became a 4.4.4 for root only need supersu??
i question that if its convenient upgrade o wait in 4.4.3

You're bootloader is definitely unlocked? Then yes, rooting is easy on 4.4.4.
?
wonder, thanks for everything @Darth
a moderator close that thread, my question was solved.
Ive tried towel and kingo.
Ive seen cf auto root, but not the proper file for my American n900a at&t version..
So am i just stuck and cant root?
You will need to downgrade to NC 4.4 2 rom then installed root and safe strap. Then go to root nl1 forum and follow the instructions
---------- Post added at 03:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:40 PM ----------
Go here first to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006. Then here to upgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/how-to-root-n900aucudnl1-4-4-4-12-24-t2983357
oh wow.. cf auto root wont even work for this too huh..
bummer
You need to follow the instructions I sent otherwise you are never going to obtain root period.
Thanks!!

Thank you so much to orphan203 and all of XDA. I've been monitoring the GalaxyNote3Root.com site for almost a year looking for a way to root my Note 3 (N900A) and I keep getting hit with AT&T updates that keep me locked down til another way to root hits the scene (I'm obviously an amateur). I figured I'd give downgrading and then rooting a shot so I found your post and followed the steps and BAM! After about a year of owning this damn phone I was finally able to root it. Thank you so much! I'll be donating to Towel Root for sure!!
