Can't find much help in my scenario - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies if this sounds like a stupid question or if this has been answered elsewhere (I've been looking around for the better part of a day and just decided to make a thread about this).
HTC One J (M7) | HBoot 1.57 | 4.2.2 | AU Phone (not australia - AU the company) | S-On | Bootloader Locked
Anyway so I am able to use kingroot to temporarily root my device, however when rebooting obviously I lose these privileges (but thankfully I can just run it again and it usually works until I reboot). I was wondering if it's possible to unlock the bootloader (s off would be even better) with this temp root.
I tried the HTC dev way, but my CID is not authorized (it appears AU does not allow this to happen from what I understand; maybe I should also note I am not the original owner of the phone). I see SunShine is a way, but it's $25 so I would like to see if there is another way to do this first.
TDLR: I have temporary root access, can I use this to unlock my bootloader?

If your cid is blocked from htcdev.com the only other method to unlock it would requires s-off. And the only way to s-off on hboot 1.57 is with Sunshine. Sunshine will also unlock the bootloader at the same time of doing s-off...

The bootloader lock flag is on the pg1fs partition, you don't have write access on that partition when S-ON, even if you have temp root. So no you can't.

Alright thanks, I think I'll stick to having temproot for now.

the $25 for sunshine is completely worth it. I still have my one m7 and running AICP 7.1.2. It's not my daily. However, it is my back up in case something happens to my daily (nexus 6)

[Q] Re-locking

Is the XTC thing is working to re-lock the bootloader by disabling the security (S-off) ?
No, never.

Once you unlock the bootloader, it is not possible for you to lock it again. HTC has the ability to do it somehow, but no one in the community has been able to get their hands on it or reverse engineer it.
So, once it is unlocked, it will stay unlocked.
If you can get S-OFF by XTC Clip - yes, "fastboot oem lock" will work.
Guess I was out of the unlocking vs relocking game too long. I didn't even know about XTC Clip.
It's a HW device that should supposedly work on most/all HTC phones, allowing security flag modifications / CID modifications / etc through HW.
I didn't test it, but for example, for HTC Wildfire it's the only way to get S-OFF and root.
Does this work with the current hboot? The only details I could find only mention the 33 hboot for the Passion and not the 35, but there's no way to tell if the information is current... :/

Looks like the support for 0.35 isn't complete.
I've almost bought such a device, since I got a locked Desire S at a bargain price and I thought to root+unlock it using this device, but right at that point Alpharev and Unrevoked produced Revolution, which is capable of S-OFFing its bootloader, and now I hope to find a way to get the SuperCID myself somehow.
Looks like a useful tool, especially since I've had 4 HTC devices in my house so far this year...

[Q] Root without HTCdev

I have been looking and searching but have not found a way to just root my phone without using HTCdev in any way. Am I right when I say that the only way to root is to unlock bootloader through HTCdev and then flashing a ROM that is already rooted? Cause I can't find anything else on rooting an HTC One...
You can do this if you have 1.44 hboot for use the "revone" tool.
Which hboot do you have?

1.54 unfortunately New phone. Really don't want HTC to track my phone and I could live with locked bootloader untill 1.54 is cracked but I want root access for several things (backup, LBE Privacy Guard etc.)
So, atm, the only solution for you is HTCDev or wait.
Ok, thanks mate.

Unlock BootLoader without HTCDev

Is there a way to unlock the bootloader on the HTC ONE M8 from Sprint to gain root access without having to use HTCDev?
Basically, I just want to gain root so I can use WiFi Tethering while keeping stock ROM.
Check out the sticky in Dev.
I found the thread that appears to talk about it without using HTCDev, but it requires S-Off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
I thought s-off on this phone was only accomplished once the bootloader was unlocked, which requires HTCDev?

Temproot only works for Verizon I believe, you will have to devunlock to root unfortunately.

[Q] Can you go S-OFF after relocking bootloader and putting it in S-ON mode?

Hello, I am looking to sell my old M7 and I'd like to unlock it to be used on any carrier via S-OFF, but I had to return this phone to S-ON for a warranty repair. Is it possible to unlock my bootloader and get it to S-OFF again? The tool I used to unlock/relock the bootloader was SuperSU and the S-OFF tool was rumrunner. Thank you for your help!

you can unlock the bootloader using the same method you did the first time via htcdev.com (btw SuperSu is the app that monitor and manage super user privileges (root), nothing to do with bootloader lock/unlock)
You should be able to s-off again. You might have to use another s-off tool if you receive your phone back with an updated hboot version. use firewater or sunshine if your phone come back with hboot 1.57. Sunshine cost 25$ but the app will only charge you if the exploit work.

Beginner rooting questions

Hey all, I recently acquired an HTC one m7 and I previously had an xperia z1. I had unlocked the bootloader and rooted my previous phone but coming to m7's page I've found that there are many things new here. First is the S-Off business.
I basically wanted to ask if there's a specific order in which I should go. For example S-off first, then root then unlock bootloader or anything like that.
And secondly, for the xperia line, there was a tool called Flashtool that basically did all the things you need to unlock/root your phone. I was wondering if there's something like that for the One M7 so that I can flash stock firmware if need be.
Also, I'm on kitkat 4.4.3 HBOOT 2.49 so should I keep some things in mind?
Also, what is CID?
Sorry for so many questions, any help is appreciated
Thank you!
uhh, I will tell you what i know here related to your questions.
Firstly, if you want to customize your phone, first thing is to unlock your bootloader which is easy to do. Then you need to flash a custom recovery. After that you can do what you like.as to s-off, if you don't have special requirements,I think it's not a must step.
Secondly, there is indeed a tool for htc one.you may find it in one's development forum.
May that help you!

If I unlock bootloader before S-off, will I be able to get back "UNLOCKED" status or will it be "RELOCKED"

yeah you can get back to full locked status, but only with s-off, be careful though, theres not alot about for the dual sim really, you can pretty much find everything in the general section for the dual. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495697
I think for your HBOOT, use Rumrunner to s-off. http://rumrunner.us/
EDIT: sorry for your HBOOT version you needed to use firewater s-off tool, but as thats discontinued, you'll have to try sunshine s-off tool which will cost $25 if it can s-off your device, it will run some checks first, if it can then you pay and it proceeds, if it cant it will let you know why and you dont pay: http://theroot.ninja/
if I remember correctly, CID is carrier identification.
the main things that matter, and that you need to take note of it your planning on changing them are CID, MID, HBOOT version and OS or version main (same thing really)
