downgrade to original Note 5 andriod software - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Note 5 is not happy with the software version Android 7 how can I put it back to the original version of software supplied with the phone?

What exactly version do you want? Are you on stock or custom? What is your device?

I was not pleased with how my phone was acting on 7.0 so I downgraded to 6.0.1 XSA using Odin but it wasn't long before I let it take the OTA back to 7.0 because I felt the pros outweighed the cons.

Can you please explain the problems? I prefer to get back too. The ugliest thing is, that the Samsung keyboard always crashes while rotating...
You also have n920c? Do you know the latest 6x-firmware for this?

When entering text into the stock messaging app it would auto space and not capitalize the first word of my text. If I would shift for a capital letter for a word it would not capitalize that word until I backed up and swiped it again. The Samsung browser which I like a whole lot will freeze at times. I have the "I" version and downloaded the XSA 6.0.1 from the app Updato.

Well, it would be a pleasure, if someone give me a hint, what's the latest 6. x Stock for the N920C.
When I'm again on 6, 7 will again come via OTA,or not?

1)You should mention coutry and csc too while asking for latest official 6.0.1 build for your device
2)And yes after downgrading to official Marshmallow 6.0.1 from Nougat 7.0, You will get OTA updates by samsung but you can prevent your device from auto updating by turning off auto-download using wifi/data from setting

I'm using Vodafone in Germany. What do you recommend?
Thanks

Back to v6

I got fed up with V7 - My battery kept running out - I kept answering calls that I wanted to reject - I lost my favourites in text messaging. - The bottom line is the battery running out all the time.
So this is what I did
My phone is a Note 5 SM-N920C and I use it in England.
I downloaded this zip file containg V6 XSG-N920CXXU2BPBA-20160309213520.zip (marked for the United Arab Emirates)
I got it from this site http://www.galaxynote5update.com/ga...are/n920cxxu2bpba-note5-sm-n920c-marshmallow/
It worked perfectly in English (not Arabic)
My battery now does the whole day again - I can reject calls again and my message favourites have come back.
The only problem i to remember to ignore the phones attempt to upgrade again to v7.
I am very happy with my phone now

But that firmware is not 5.x. Would it be okay for us to flash a note 4 firmware (non dual sim version) onto the SM-N9100?

By no means flash another ROM if is not developed especially for your model. Most likely you will get i nice brick.
As for a lolipop ROM, i'm still searching. Until now i have found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-n9106w-qualcomm-t3007061/page15#post59798895 but it's developed for SM-N9106W, i'm waiting for a confirmation that is working for SM-N9100.
GR8 day !
For whom is interested :
On Samobile.com you can find the now Lolipop Firmware for SM-N9100 Duos.
I have dual sim SM-N9100 Hong Kong Version and I have recently updated it to Lollipop using Kies. I have faced the following bugging issue:
It takes long time (5-10 sec) in the Dialer when choosing the SIM to make the call whereas before it was spontaneous and that's why I had to use a 3rd party dialer from Google Play.
Other than this, I had the phone for few months and it works smoothly. I also faced auto focus issue
I don't have any of those problem and i'm also on Lolipop.
Maybe you should try reflashing Lolipop through Kies.
Or, if you have root and recovery installed , you could do a data wipe.

I have contacted Samsung HK and their answer was useless as expected. They said (its only 10 seconds so its not a big a deal), They never admitted the problem. After resetting to factory setting and fresh Lollipop install, the problem still exist.. Im using a 3rd party app phone instead of Samsung Dailer.
Hi to all im using Hk lollipop for m9re than 3 weeks and i can say that is a very nice rom...maybe a little better than kit kat. ..
I have only found 1 bug and 1 weard problem...
The bug is as you have describe above but this hapens only if you have choose "allways ask" and only if you try to make the call from recent calls or favourite contacts...and NOT directly from contacts list....
The weard problem has to do with message app and sms settings.....
In kit kat there was a menu "iinput mode" to choose between "Automatic , Alphabetic & Unicode"...the Alphabetic gives you the opportunity to have 160 letters instead of 70....
After updated to lollipop this menu still there....
When i do factory reset the menu dissappear....
I had returned back to kit kat but the menu wasn't there too...
I reinstall clear lollipop with original recovery and no root but the same results...
The menu isn't there anymore.....
Very strange issue. ...
Hi All, officially the second sim card is marked as 2G slot. Has anyone tested or know if it's possible to make it work with 3G/4G? is it a ROM thing, or is it hardware?
Australian networks are shutting down their 2G networks and I don't really want to move to a different phone.

Hoping to flash my SM-N9208 Note 5 with another official ROM

Im not sure if anyone has the answer to this...
I happened to be in Taiwan at the weekend when the Note 5 launched.
I visited an official concession at a department store where I had the opportunity to ask the salesman a few questions. He assured me that the model (N9208), would be the same one that would be launching in the Philippines (where I live). I took his word for it and purchased the phone. I had the opportunity to visit a Samsung store today to find that the software (keyboard etc) is very different on the Philippines version (still an N9208)!
I love the phone but English (UK) is my first language and the Philippine version supports it much better than the Taiwanese version. The handwriting pad is the most noticeable difference as it is set up for inputting characters as opposed to writing sentences...
I was hoping to change this; N9208ZTU1AOH3_N9208ZZT1AOH3_BRI
to this; N9208XXU1AOGE_N9208OLB1AOGF_XTC
I was hoping to keep it as official as possible.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Why do people do this? Buy a phone that's not for a region they live in cause they "can't wait" or some other excuse? If I want a phone for the US, I'm not going to go to the UK to get it......

Ok, nvm LOL. Didn't think of it that way, forgot there is no UK launch for Note 5.
No custom ROMs (or even root) yet, I believe -- but I'm a Note 4 user and I sometimes use Google's own handwriting keyboard in place of Sammy's solution. It installs as an alternate keyboard.
I find that It works best when paired with Google's own keyboard. Both should be available to download on your device since Google now releases their apps on a stand-alone basis (i.e. it won't replace your stock Sammy keyboard).
Hope that helps while you wait for a custom ROM.

Thank you. I have been using Stylus Beta from the Play store in the meantime. The google one was great but I have found writing sentences much more fluid with the stylus app. I recommend checking it out!
Cheers for the input!

just flash it with odin...they are compatable.......all the firmware for n9208 will flash no problem
youve given me an idea to do it now ,,,,i have same problem
just curious why you picked xtc firmware
Hi, the firmware I picked is from the Philippines. English is widely spoken, especially in business etc so it's the best bet for full English support of the N9208 I believe. I think the firmware I picked is the carrier free version although I need to double check.
I'm very tempted to use Odin but my only holdup is Knox. Samsung pay is launching imminently and I would hate to miss out if my phone becomes unofficial!
Any idea if it would be effected?

Yes, you need to enable 'OEM unlock' before you can flash with Odin. Same happened on my N920C when i tried to flash a custom kernel: always failed until I changed the OEM unlock.

Don't think this have anything to do with it as i remember seeing that on my Galaxy S6 as well.
Could you try to flash another compatible software? I had the same problem once with my S6 which was LUX, tried to flash a firmware from the Netherlands on it and would fail as well, but then tried a French one and it flash without problems.
Or you might want to go look if there's a solution in the Galaxy S6 (and Edge) forums. I wasn't the only one with that problem but since I could flash the French firmware i've never bothered to further look into it.

I only tried n9208 firmwares on sammobile... Malaysia... Philippine... and some unknown ones
never thought trying others...
could others be used safely?
I just wanted to change keyboard because chinese characters keep coming up!

the one that fails is the modem I dont know why ,maybe if someone could provide as with a flashable modem zip (of n920c for example) would be great.
To change just the system
I unziped the firmware of the n9208 then I replaced the cache.img and system.img with the ones of a n920c rom.
then build up the tar file and flashed with odin. Rooted and flashed TPWR after.
everything works except nfc probable from the baseband that is different.
Thats why I am asking of a flashable modem..
Tried Dr.Ketans rom also but I lost signal.

Samsung Note SM-N9208 Duos

Hello,
I bought N9208 today with the knowledge that it is compatible to my current carrier TMobile. I have several questions for those who have this phone.
#1. Am I able to install the operating system from TMobile? I am basically a noob when it comes to rooting etc etc. The phone comes unlocked.
#2. What is the primary difference between the N9208 and TMobile' N920T. I purchased this phone because it has 2 Sim slot and I like the Titanium color.
#3. What should I be doing first upon receiving the phone? How can I add flash software to this phone?
#4. Does unlock also mean the phone is rooted?
Any help or advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you for the patience.

I think you shouldn't do anything to your phone during a few days, to make sure that everything works fine. With an unlocked phone you'll be able to use any SIM card, and with a rooted phone you'll be able to see, modify and delete system files that otherwise can't be seen, so if a phone is unlocked it doesn't mean that it's also rooted.
To flash a new ROM you can use Odin.

You can't use a firmware of the N920T on your N9208, as they are different models. You can only install a firmware that is specific for your device model.

So what should I do? lol I don't want Taiwan's apps. I would like to cater my phone as closely as TMobile's.
I have the N9208 and use it on TMOUS. It does not come with any Taiwan apps, just all Samsung official apps. The traditional Chinese keyboard and handwriting recognition are on by default. I have not tried turning them off since I do write in Chinese sometimes. You cannot install TMO FW as they are two different models. The main difference is that the TMO supports Samsung Pay while the N9208 does not yet since it is not supported in TW yet. It is not rooted by default.

It's up to you, just know that if you do root, it will trip Knox. That means you won't be able to use Samsung Pay if it gets released in the future and Android Pay unless there is some workaround. Yes, there is Simplified Chinese. You can also always download third party keyboards if you prefer.

Oh, what do you mean by "traditional chinese on by default?" I mostly type in English, so I hope English Language can be on default. I currently have Note 3, and if I swipe the space key, it switches to simplified chinese. Is Note 5 similiar to this that?
I guess I will leave it alone for a bit and see how it does. I read on the T Mobile forum at Tmobile website and it says N9208 does not have "LTE" and that wi fi calling isn't available? Is this true though?
Thanks
I just received my Note 5 N9208, and there isn't simplified chinese. Do I go to google play to download it? Also, the weather, how do I add multiple cities' weather? I am not liking the Samsung keyboard already. Can someone help? thanks

I just mean that when you first use the device the default keyboard and handwriting are set to both traditional Chinese and English. Yes you can deselect Traditional and change it to English. On the Note5 you just click on the globe key and it will change the language. It does support LTE. I posted a picture in a post somewhere, you can look at my history to find it. It does not have wifi calling from what I can tell.

I read elsewhere in the forum that the N9200 (China Note 5) does not come with the google play store and that rooting is often required to get it. I don't want to root. Does the N9208 come with the google play store? I assume yes since it's the Taiwan version, but would love to get some confirmation. Thanks! My plan is to use the phone on AT&T in the US states, and on China Mobile in China (N9208 should be fine for use in China as long as not using China Telecom, from what I've seen on frequencycheck).

once when u install this firmware

its running very smooth with N920CXXU2AOJ5
Just installed it, it's running very well and restored vibration to my soft keys (which have been broken since this morning), and it brings App Standby to Android 5.1.1.

Can I install it on N920C?

Just downloaded XSG (UAE release) version: no bloatware added
Puppy literally flies with this new FW!!!!
Never seen so fast, responsive; sadly modem is still 03 (still poor 4G reception) but now this seems really a new phone...
I suggest as always a cache cleaning process from recovery after installation

All phones behave in the same way after an update. Don't Rush, Give it a few days. Actual improvements will be visible after few days, especially with the battery usage.

There's already a massive improvement in standby on my unit. Perhaps I'll see even more in the coming days.

the same problem here! i got update and installed it. The ex-modem code is `2`, and new one is `3`. thought it would fix bad reception issue, but nothing has not changed. Mine is N920C and its baseband version is N920CXXU2AOJ3
Anyway, do you know how to change the baseband version? ( it could be stupid question but i am a new android user (ohh!!)) I have never tasted 4 levels signal on H,H+,LTE. I think something wrong with its software.
Any body try to root it??

Works great on my C470! Really happy with it, EMUI 4.0 is definately better than 3.0, really happy with it Xposed also working great.
Only funny thing is that it says "Country: Thailand" in OP, but you cant set your region to Thailand because the option is not there lol.
Which region is this C470?
I think it's either Cambodia or Singapore, not sure about it. Never know what region to expect if you buy a phone in the ASEAN haha!
İ need to c433b180 model please hellp me
Thanks sir

hi @maicrosoft, can you confirm this upgrade works without any issues on C470?
Can you share a screenshot.

You need to be rooted and do some modifications in the system files to enable multiple users. You should Google it, there are a few guides out there on how to do this. Don't really recommended though, theres this bug on some apps that you have installed on both users. If you open the app as a non main user or guest it will not load and instantly crash, and if you go back to your main account it will suddenly do the same. If you reboot the phone it will be uninstalled, together with all the data. It happened to me with Line, and lost all my conversations because of that.
Also, I have no idea what Keyguard is so I am not missing out on much XD

So it's not really compatible with B180? Sad, no suppprt for our model around the web too.
I upgraded from B180 so it should work. Just make sure you are on stock recovery, unroot and have the original ROM on your device first before updating.

Any issues with Xposed. I assume you deodexed the rom for it to work.
I came from C470B180. If you want to go back to stock recovery you should extract it from the rom of the original firmware of your deice, and flash it with adb.
No problems with xposed so far, and yes I deodexed. The xposed for emai topic mentioned some trouble with bluetooth specific stuff but it's all stuff I dont use so for me everything works fine.
