Downgrade Options? SM-T710 Nougat - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a tab s2 sm-t710 on nougat T710XXU2DQCL that was installed OTA and would like to know if i am able to downgrade to 6.0.1. The device is 100% stock and was wondering if ODIN would give me any grief about downgrading. The PDA number of the 6.0.1 file is T710XXU2CPK1 (Cellular South).
Thanks

On paper, I think you should be fine.
I'd also like to know this as battery life seemed much better on 6.0.1 for me.

i did downgrade my T 815 from 7.0m to 6.01 using odin. didnt face any difficulties. i did a complete wipe/format after i downgraded .

Can you not downgrade with TWRP as well?

Anyone knows how can I downgrade this tablet? It's in stock

I used Odin and firmware downloaded from sammobile and it worked flawlessly. I've performed downgrades on over 100 tablets so far and they have all worked good.

Downgrded my t713 long time ago and didn't have a single problem, you just need to download a compaitable firmware from sammobile!

You're safe to downgrade as long as it's allowed. Older builds will fail immediately so there is no harm to downgrade.

I've seen a few people asking about downgrading. Whats the reason behind this? Is N glitchy?

Need help downgrading SM-T719Y

N does not work at all well with DJI drone remote controllers. I foolishly updated my brand new SM-T719Y 8" and Now I cannot connect to my drone at all. I have an pre 2016 Tab S2 on Android 6.01 and bingo works.
This size pad is the preferred size for drones and has enough grunt to provide stutter free vision. Cannot comment on anything else about N as this pad will only be used for my drone...

Hi Beut,
I have been trying yo downgrade my Tab S2 SM-T719Y LTE from Nougat to 6.01 and have correct downgrade and Odin. Every time I try to downgrade it fails straight away, so I was wondering what you ment by "as long as it is allowed" & "older builds" will fail immediately.
I need to get this happening as I cant fly my drone.
Cheers Yts...

I don't have your model so it cannot verify. However, other models I can downgrade to older builds close to the Nougat.
Like SM-T580 or SM-P580, both are Android 7, QF1 and QE4 respectively. I can downgrade them to PL4 or PL2, Android 6 but not the PG1.
Q: 17 or 2017
P: 16 or 2016.
The second letter is the month it's released.
You also need the right bootloader, different OS has different bootloader. Many just flash the AP file only without bootloader, it'll failed when downgrade.

Is it possible that you cannot downgrade Nougat to 6.01 as every time I try on my SM-T719Y Tab S2 LTE, it fails straight away. I have tried 3 different downloads and all failed, but Odin will let me overwrite my Nougat with a downloaded version of Nougat from the same web location as I got one of the 6.01 firmwares from.
Here are my fail messages.

Is it me or is it this model of the Tab S2 SM-T719Y????

When downgrade to MM you need the BL ( Bootloader ) goes with the AP . Boot loader of Nougat is not the same as MM , however bootloader of LTE version is locked

Sammy doesn't want you to downgrade.. nougat is planned obsolescence, I'd say.

Hey I've been trying to downgrade my T719Y for days now. Constantly failing and googling everything I can to find where I'm going wrong.
How would I know if I have the LTE version? And if I do and the bootloader is locked, does that mean I can't downgrade?
If I don't have the LTE version, you're saying I need the bootloader and AP to downgrade? Where can I find the bootloader?
I'll keep searching and trying but this is wearing me down. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. My surveyors can't do a damn thing with our giant UAV until I fix this

LTE version is the one that has SIM, usually it's next to SD slot. Most LTE versions have locked bootloader, that's why you cannot downgrade firmware.

I just kept an older phone for apps available only for 6.0. Like scr recorder. Otherwise there are no reasons to downgrade

Is G925VVRS4DQD1 (Nougat) Root-able yet?

I got a Samsung S6 Edge (Verizon SM-G925V) today and heard I should upgrade to 7.0 (Nougat) firmware and hope it gets rooted soon. Is the baseband version I have root-able? It's G925VVRS4DQD1
To my understanding, the tool on autoroot.chainfire.eu WOULD work, but because the bootloader is locked down, it will brick the device instead? Is that true? Is there any hope that 7.0 will be rooted soon for my device? Any input on this would be helpful, thanks.

I tried it it said something about recovery not sure what but in Odin on the phone screen it said recovery fail
So do i. However, it won't brick your phone. One time i tried to upgrade to 7.0 or downgrade to 6.0, first boot i saw a pic of a lock is unlocked when i first boot. Next time i boot, it disapppears. Any idea?
I think this phone is unrootable for now since Verizon is like "you can't make it because i don't wanna my phone naked, haha"
Same problem here. recovery fail. How can I root my G925V Nougat?

Downgrade from 8.0.0 to 7.1.1

I'm currently on 8.0.0 version and I want to downgrade to 7.1.1. I need help with the downgrade version
I've tried N950USQU2BQLA and N950USQU3BRA9 and both failed.
My carrier is TMOBILE
Your 8.0 bootloader version is 4. You are trying to downgrade to a lower version. You can't.
And next time please read and search. The phone is now 8 months old, plenty of info out there !

If you don't mind me asking, why would it be impossible to downgrade if he's on U4? What would cause the process to be impossible?

What he wants is to downgrade to 7.1.1 which is possible if he is on u3(keep in mind i am referring to the bootloader version). On U4 there is ONLY 8.0. They did not release a 7.1.1 on U4 bootloader. Any time there is a major bootloader revision(such as u3 to u4 bootloader) Samsung blows a qfuse preventing older firmware from being installed(you can only flash firmware that is on the same incriment or newer) meaning if you are V1 bootlaoder you can flash either v1- v4 HOWEVER the moment you flash a higher version(if you go from v1 to v2) you are now stuck on v2 and higher and can no longer flash v1.
Based on the OPs provided information I assume he is on v4 bootloader because he is unable to flash v2 and v3 firmware. Because he is on the v4 bootloader he cannot flash 7.1.1 firmware which was last on U3. At this point his only option is to stick with U4 firmware(8.0 only).

Hi guys I upgraded this evening from 7.1.1 bqk2 to 8.0 2cql1
It doesn't work correctly I keep getting a black screen and the phone vibrates.
The only way I've been able to fix is holding power volume up and bixby and wiping data/factory reset
Is there a link to a download for my software and a guide at all?
Forgive me for the stupid question I can't find any info out there online or a YouTube video
Thanks in advance

Maybe try a factory reset (backup first!), or install a fresh copy of the firmware using Odin. You can find the files for your device/model on Sammobile, and then download from there or through SamFirm.
hello everyone I'm the only one to this discussion to try to understand and maybe solve my problem, currently on the 8th note I android 8 (R16NW.N950FXXS5CSA1) updated by mistake with software sam firm

Sorry You can't downgrade to nougat because you are on bootloader version "5"! (From your firmware version you are on N950FXXUS"5"CSA1, the number in "" is your bootloader version). Nougat only went upto bootloader version 3.
The current bootloader won't allow it to be downgraded only upgraded to v6 and higher.
There is no files (that I know of) that will downgrade the bootloader. You'll might have better chance on talking to Samsung and see if they can downgrade your phone.

Downgrade from Pie back to Oreo because of the camera app

Hi,
I've wanted to try a One UI Pie rom, which I did, I like the new user interface, hate the new camera. I put my feedback on One UI as a PS at the end.
I believe one of the ROMs i tried required me to update bootloader to Pie. Is there a way to downgrade to Oreo, so i can install Oreo ROMS? I tried 2 ROMs and i get a boot loop on both.
Thanks,
Daniel
PS: One UI feedback: Used to be able to take either video or picture one click away, now it's 2. You used to be able to bind the Bixby button to Camera+Take picture with BxButtons, and volume keys to video. No longer possible with Pie. You don't know how important that is untill you went to the mountains, and you need some phisical buttons to use with your gloves. And most important, adding the Dual Shot mod is no longer possible, which was taking the same picture or video with both front and back cameras, which is again verry important for me.

We need to know what your current "Build Number" is on the phone. You also can't downgrade to other bootloaders that are lower then your current one, so if you're on bootloader 5 you need to use the Oreo bootloader 5 version firmware or it will not work.

He is asking for the "N950FXXS5CSA2" firmware to see what bootloader you are on. (Bootloader # is the 5th spot from the right. This case the "5" from "5CSA2" IS THE BL. Version)
Usually it's in about phone/software/ baseband if not there it should say in download mode (look for B: # (# could be 1 to 5)) few lines down I think.
If your on bl. Version 5 you can be able to flash any N950FXXS5..... firmware but not lower like N950FXXU4......

Hi, yes the bootloader is unlocked, I have a custom ROM, and my device is Rooted.
Baseband version N950FXXU5DSB1. So N950F, bootloader 5 I guess from what @BluePhnx said. Is there a direct connection between Bootloader 5 and android PIE? Or can Oreo ROMs be compatible with this bootloader?
Thank you for helping me clarify!

The only connection the bootloader plays is when you go from pie to oreo.
For eg. Oreo is N950FXXS5CSA2
Pie is N950FXXS5DSB2
As long as the bootloader is the same "5" you can go back and forth between pie and oreo.
BUT once you go to a, for eg. let say August security patch for pie, firmware with N950FXXU"6"DSB4 (this has bootloader version 6) then you can NOT go back to oreo. Because the bootloader won't downgrade itself, it will only stay at version 6 or go higher to version 7 and so on.
So if you want to go back make sure the bootloader stays at version 5....

See what @BluePhnx said? That's what I was trying to explain but he explained it better.. If you want to know what bootloader version you're on you do this see N950FXXU5DSB1 what you do is start at the very END and count backwards 5 letters/numbers and you end up on the number 5 like N950FXXU((5))DSB1 that equals bootloader version 5 but if you see something like this N950FXXU((6))DSB1 then it's bootloader 6 and if you were to flash that one you can never go back to bootloader 5 again it only goes forward but @BluePhnx explained it much better!

The problem is most custom ROMs don't actually tell you the firmware code or bootloader version. And I only saw 1 ROM that actually told me that it will update the bootloader to PIE (without specifying the actual version). Do you have any pointers on what should I look for when installing a custom ROM to prevent upgrading bootloader (besides when the ROM actually specifies the Bootloader version of firmware code?

The rom should say what firmware it is based on. Like N950FXXU5DBS2. If not you can ask.
Eg. N950FXXU5DBSA2 - the "5" in ....5DBSA2 is the bootloader version.
You'll can check for your bootloader version in download mode.
Here is a screenshot: (not mine just an eg.)
But you should be able to flash back to an oreo bootloader as long as the bootloader version is the same.
Cannot open PIE after OTA upgrade last Friday.
After upgrade with previous release and security patch of 1st of January I checked somewhere last week and there was n upgrade then.
Last Friday I did see a new OTA update from Samsung and installed it, upgrading to PIE.
After restart I get an error with the SIM card slot. I have a dual SIM version in Spain PHE.
I am unable to use phone now.
Everything original. Only did the dual SIM + memory card. Which has been working perfect for me with OREO.
Which version would I need?
Did the official PIE update change the bootloader version as well?
I just need the double SIM and the memory.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No there isn't. That I know of.
Pie needs the pie bootloader.
I think the only way is to root your phone and have a dev port the pie firmware to work with the oreo bootloader. If possible!
But you "should" be able to flash the 1rst pie release firmware and then go back to the last oreo firmware with a factory reset. (Not certain though so. )

Downgrading to Android 8 without compromising Knox/ Samsung Pay?

Hi all,
My Note 8 is currently running Android 9 (official), with baseband N950FXXU6DSD3. Given the phone is turning sluggish day by I thought it would be a good idea to downgrade to Android 8. Well, I downloaded Odion and the official firmware for N950F but Odin gave me an error. Googled and found it is probably because the baseband / bootloader is l6 and the firmware I was installing was l5. However, I couldnt find any official android 8 version with bootloader l6.
Just wondering if there is an alternate was of downgrading without tripping Knox/ Samsung Pay?
Thanks!

Nope not possible you're stuck on bootloader version 6 and there's no going backwards now!
There is no Android 8 rom with v6 bootloader? Also, if I choose OEM unlock will it still trip my Knox even if I install official firmware?

No OEM unlocking will not trip your Knox flag. However, if you install twrp and root the phone that's when you'll trip knox. If you're thinking that toggling the OEM button will allow you to downgrade backwards it's not going to happen! I personally don't know of any Android 8 on bootloader version 6. This is why we preach not to accept updates or buy a phone that's already been updated because there's just no going back once you update! We haven't found a way to do that and I don't think anyone is actually spending their time to try to figure that out either.
Ah ok. Thanks. Guess I am stuck on a laggy OS.

S8 Active Downgrade

Hello,
If this is in the wrong area, please forgive me. I tried my best to make sure it is in the right area, and I'm not super familiar with this site (though I've read here from time to time!)
A long time ago, my S8 Active upgraded to Pie, and I downgraded because I didn't like it at all. Well, I hard-reset my phone last week and I forgot to disable the update feature, and I have Pie again. So I want to downgrade again. However, using the firmware from sammobile.com and the latest Oreo firmware, Odin3 gives me a generic "failed" error. I suspect it's a bootloader version issue, but I really don't know enough about this to know for sure. My current firmware is G892USQU7CTG2 (T-Mobile). Is that bootloader version 7? If so, I think I'm screwed because, as I understand, you can't downgrade to a firmware with an older bootloader version... is that correct? The newest version of Oreo is G892USQS5BSG4, which I think is bootloader 5. If my understanding is correct, then... is there any way to downgrade the bootloader on my phone? I really really don't want Pie.
Thanks for your time and (hopefully) good news!
