I own an OnePlus 3T running Open Beta 8, and I've come across a rather strange problem with the Wi-Fi.
It is basically a problem with this one network. It has worked fine with all others I've had it on. It'll connect to the router but will have no Internet access, a Wi-Fi fixer tool I used reports Internet as disconnected and it also fails the DNS ping tests. When you connect after a while there'll be Internet access for a minute or so but then it disconnects again. What's interesting about this problem is, that other devices on this network lose their Internet connectivity as well. Upon disconnecting the phone, they regain Internet access.
I've tried all the standard fixes, resetting the router, resetting the phone -- which solves the problem for about a day or so but it comes back around. I've changed the IP to static and back. Assigned DNS manually. Even attempted creating a hotspot with another device connected to the network. And tried the WiFi Doctor app, but nothing has worked so far. This problem was also persistent in Open Beta 7

I have been having issues where i am connected to the wifi but the device stops passing any traffic. I have fing installed and i can't ping any other devices on my network. I know its just my phone because i have my work phone and tablet connected to the wifi and they still work fine browsing webpages, watching movies etc while the droid turbo can no longer communicate with the local lan or out to the internet. If i switch the wifi off then on again it will reconnect and then work normally. I can then ping devices on the local lan and access pages on the internet. This has happened a number of times now since i got the device.
Edit: I just updated the phone and still get the issue. I have a cisco WAP at home, we have cisco WAP's at work which i will test tomorrow. If this thing still has issues i am just going to swap it out for a Note 4.

I've been seeing issues with Cisco wlans too.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
so it looks like it works good at work, something with my home cisco ap and this phone as all other devices at home work ok.

Yeah this phone does not seem to like my router for some reason. Keep in mind I'm not a networking expert, but I've tried every combination of options and settings every which way from Sunday and I just can't get the thing to work. When I do connect the phone to my wifi it kills the the connection on every device in the house. At first I though it was just a wireless thing, but even the downstairs computer which is plugged in directly to the router doesn't work. Then as soon as I disconnect the phone every device works again. I thought maybe there was too many devices, so I disconnected all but the downstairs computer, still had the issue when I connected the Turbo. I've tried just turning off the WPA2 and just having an open system, I've tried connecting the phone using a WPS pin (This one actually worked for a good 5 minutes before crapping out and hasn't worked since). On the advanced options of the phone I tried an automatic IP as opposed to the default DHCP setting (This also worked for a good 5 minutes before not working ever again). I've tried limiting it to just one frequency band. I have tried so many different things and I just cannot make this phone work on my router. And I know it's my router because the phone works fine at work.
phone: Droid Turbo
Router : Asus rt-ac66r
yup within ten minutes of getting home, the device no longer passes traffic. My work S5 still works fine at home and so does my samsung tablet. The device worked on wifi all day at work on our enterprise wpa2 network no issues. I tried doing static ip at home, changing to 2.4 ghz, trying new ssid. Not sure what else to do with this thing...
Not just you
I posted a comment on Motorola's forum where people are discussing their wifi issues... And my work around. I currently beleive its a software issue and can be fixed via update. Also, today I found (it appears) that the longer the phone goes without a reboot, the shorter amount of the it appears to go with out needing the wifi card reset.

My work around fix...
First, over night my wifes phone now behaves just like mine. It now connects to wifi and after sometime passes it no longer passes data (but stays connected). I needed a way to auto disable/enable the card... I installed Tasker. I have it set to check every 15 minutes, if the phone is connected to WiFi, to disable then enable the WiFi card. I use WifiMatic to enable the wifi card when the phone is connected to the cellular tower that is near my house. (Doing this by GPS uses more battery power...) Using Tasker with the rule to verify its connected to wifi first helps not enabling wifi if its nit needed and lets WifiMatic enable/disable it as needed.

SM-N910T3. Maximum OvrDriVE MM v1.2 (Android 6.0.1, N910TUVU2EP3)
Since this ROM was flashed on my phone, I've always used the "built in" T-Mobile hotspot app. I'm on the 10GB family share. I am not over my data cap. No unlimited tether mods, or anything like that. Just rooted with OvrDriVE rom. Nothing has changed since it was flashed in August 2016.
I use tether maybe once or twice a month in emergency situations.
Tried to connect to my work laptop, and the PC (Win 10 Dell Tablet) does see the hotspot, connects just fine, gets a DHCP assigned IP address but "no internet." If I try to ping google.com I get an immediate error. So did the normal windows stuff, restart the computer, flush DNS cache, etc. IPV6 disabled and re-enabled. No change. "Forgot" the network in WIndows, thinking something about the encryption has changed, or something. No dice. So I tried my personal laptop. Same thing. Connects, gets IP, no internet what so ever. I thought maybe it's an issue with T-Mobile's DNS servers, so I leave the device IP DHCP, but change DNS server to google's 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4. Still nothing. Tried a computer that has never connected to the hotspot before. Same thing. Gets an internal IP address, but cannot connect to the internet.
Only thing I've done is wipe dalvik/cache but that did nothing. I don't have a recent backup to restore to. I haven't found the hotspot app in Application Manager, as I want to wipe data/cache for that specific app and see if that helps.
Anybody have any ideas? Or what I can do to get more information about where it is failing?
EDIT: Thought maybe i was a T-Mobile network error. When starting the hotspot, I get the popup saying "verifying you account information" and do not get any errors. It has not been working for about 4 days now so I'd think it it was an internal T-Mobile issue it'd be resolved by now, or I'd see posts from others saying it wasn't working.
So this evening I downloaded the ol' tried and true "WiFi Tether Router" and configured it per the apps' recommendations for the Note 4. That doesn't work at all, can never see the SSID of the hotspot on any computer.
try to switch your frequency of your hotspot from 4 or 5. something to 2.4 im pretty sure under hotspot settings that is my only guess.
No effect. This is just the AP mode, whether 2.4GHz or 5GHZ. As I stated the PC connects to the phone fine, gets an IP address. Something with the routing or DNS is failing. I think it goes beyond DNS as typing in a URL's IP address also doesn't work.
Hi together, i got my first onePlus this week.
basicly i really love it, but since the first day i am in struggle with wifi/internet issues.
I read already some Threads on this and other sites but i wans't able to Fixed the issue.
Now i didn't know how to solve the issue and hope one of your guys can help me to solve/localize the Problem...
At first i always lose the Connection, which could be solved by switching of the intelligent wifi (now i know, the wifi dropped because of the missing/slow inet Connection).
1. Problem Description:
the Oneplus is connected to wifi, but when i try to visit a Website or Open the AppStore the Internet Connection is verry slow, or not correct etablished. Sometimes, often after a Router restart or deleting the Oneplus from routers known device list, the Internet Connection via WiFi Works fo 1-15min.
2. Network Architektur.
OnePlus is connected to the Router (Fritz!box). The Fritzbox Works in client mode and gets the Internet Connection from lan 1 Port, which is feeed from a Radio Network (because we have a slow Connection i get Internet from a local Provider). the Fritzbox used 5ghz and 2.4ghz. the Last one is repeated by WLAN repeated(from avm too).
3. one plus os Updates:
- got Oneplus with Android 6!? but the Problem was present. (didn't Check oos Version because i thought an Update could fix the Problem)
- Update to oxygen os 4.1.6 (Android 7)
- Factory Reset because of the Problem
- flashed to Open Beta 10
4. what i have tried
-other devices
- on a Network from Family (with an other Router (from Telecom) and Simple Network complexity -> worked perfect
- remove repeated
- use only 2,4ghz and 5ghz
- changed WLAN channel (i have some 2.4ghz networks around me but nothing 5ghz, so this shouldnt be the Problem source).
- restart Oneplus and Router (which sometimes Works for some Minuten)
- configured Static ip on Oneplus (not possible in Router because client mode)
- Factory Reset
- perform wipe Cache
- flashed to newest Beta
5. What i want to try but where i was faced with other Problems:
- use ipv6 on Router,. not directly in client mode.
- root Oneplus to deactivate ip v6, not able to root, because OEM unlock doesnt Works (after entering Pin nothing happend, OEM is still locked).
i Hope somebody can help me or give me some Input.
best regards
Well ... it seems that i have some issues connecting to a VPN server (manual connection, from Network Connections -> More Network Connections -> VPN).
I cannot connect to it from Note 8, while i can succesfully connect from Note 4 (same networks, same router, same configurations).
On Note 8 i am on N950FXXU1AQI1 fw.
I had even Factory reset it and tried again, but without success.
I am adding server log for both note 8 (red) and note 4 (green).
Can someone try to see if it works (manual VPN, PPTP type)?
-------------------
Later update: tried AnyConnect as well (to a eneterprise VPN that i use) and it DOES NOT work as well (connection failed), while on Note 4 it works without a hickup.
So it seems, that at least for me, i cannot connect to ANY VPN network, which is an major issue for me.
I've had issues with my note 8 vpn as well. I usually have VyprVpn and PureVPN. The connection is a hit or miss really. And when it does connect, it starts with no connection and then network speeds up but slowly.
Hope this helps.
i understand, but i am forced to use that VPN app as i a company constraint (AnyConnect is CISCO VPN - weidly spread in companies).
While the Android Default VPN should work out of the box ...
VPN
I use pulse secure to vpn to the company intranet.
well ... factory reseted one more time, and all is working ... really strange ..
Turn off power saving
I know this is an old thread, but I just ran across this issue myself and found that if I turn off power saving the VPN works well. I hope you had already found this or another solution.

Save my life
I use the ComicRack PC and Android programs to sync comic files to my tablet on my home network. This generally works okay but occasionally the tablet will not connect to the server.
When this occurs, I have tried pinging from my tablet to the PC (using various android network tools like Fing) and the pings fail. In fact, when this happens I can't ping ANYTHING from my tablet, not even localhost. But my network connection is active because I can still get to both my local network files (using ES File Explorer) and the internet just fine.
I have tried resetting my wifi connections, setting static ip addresses, changing from 2.4 to 5 g networks, and a number of other things. The fact that it won't even ping localhost, however, would seem to indicate the problem is with the tablet and not the network.
After a few days (or weeks), it seems to start working again randomly - not from rebooting or anything else, it just does.
I am currently not rooted, running factory rom (see attachment). I'm considering rooting to see if I can get around the problem but since I use Private Mode I've been hesitant to do so.
Any ideas? I seem to remember reading somewhere that Samsung devices occasionally had wifi problems, but don't know if that applies to this issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
