Hi guys ! I am having bad luck with a C6903 phone.
First of all, my battery is losing 4-5% per hour in stand by mode, even though the phone is spending 99% of the time in deep sleep. I tried killing every app, I tried safe mode, formating the micro SD card, I did a factory reset. Nothing worked.
The second problem is that the USB data transfer is not working, so I can't root the phone, in order to see more detailed battery statistics, nor can I flash another Rom.
So I'm pretty stuck. Does anyone have any ideea about what could be wrong? Could these 2 problems be related? Could there be a broken IC that drains the battery and is also causing the USB data transfer failure? Or is it more likely that the battery is broken, and it has nothing to do with the USB problem?
I am ready to order some replacement parts, but I don't know what I should buy. Battery? USB port? Charger flex cable?
Please help!
Why is your data transfer not working? Activated debugging?
What process drains the most battery?
Sent from Xperia Z1
Yes, I activated USB debugging and I tried both USB connection modes: MTP and MSC. Moreover, when I connect the phone to the computer via USB, if I go to settings -> about phone -> status -> Battery status, it says "Charging (AC)". So it thinks it is connected to an AC socket, and not an USB port.
Something is wrong with the phone, but I don't know what. Either the micro USB port, or a chip. Is it possible that the PM8941 power management chip is faulty and it is causing both problems ? Is there any other chip that could be causing this problems ?
The process that drains the most battery is "Cell Standby". It takes usually 35-40%. But if I am using the phone for a couple of minutes, then the "Screen" process equals the "Cell standby" process. Which seems reasonable. The processes seem fine.

There is an Option where you can choose what you want when the phone is connected to USB, Charging Only, Media or Storage. If the option is on Charging then is normal to me it Charging only and it appear "Charging (AC).

Try another usb cable.
I did. I tried at least 4 different cables. It is a hardware problem. I'm sure of it.

You might have a defective device. Just bring it in to the shop and have it checked
Try another PC, install correct drivers...
So much more to try before you send it back.
Also, when you say data transfer does not work, does that mean you cannot send data between pc and phone or the that the PC does not recognise the phone at all?

Yes...I tried 3 different PCs. By data transfer, I mean that the PC doesn't recognize the phone, and the phone doesn't recognize the PC. And also when I go to device manager on the PC, there is no device that is marked as unknown or nothing. I installed PC Companion and it doesn't detect the phone either.
The thing is that it's a second hand phone so I can't send it back. I can fix it at a service, but they charge too much. I would rather buy a new phone than pay for fixing this one. The only option that I am considering is fixing it myself. But I am not sure which chip is faulty.
I am having a problem with the unlocked US Note 8 when trying to charge wirelessly or via usb. When placed on the charger or connected directly to the usb cable, the default mode is for usb to charge another device. The phone will not charge until I go to notifications and switch it to "charge this phone". I have been unable to find a way to make wireless charging work consistently unless it was just restarted. Does anyone know if this is a bug, or is there a setting I am not finding on the phone to set it to charge this phone by default?
USB defaulting to charge connected device
Despite having changed the default in developer options to "charge this phone", the next time the phone is connected to either a wireless charger or a USB cable it returns to the "charge connected device" option. This negates the usefulness of wireless charging as it does not resume when placed back on the charger or plugged in. I have to go into notifications every time to change the USB configuration.
Does anyone else have this problem? Can someone confirm this is not related to the problems of wireless charging seen by others using the Note 8? I have the unlocked version from Sammy on Verizon.
I know the options you're talking about but my Korean N950N works just fine via usb or on wireless pads. Maybe you need to do a factory reset?
Note 8 USB configuration
I have done it once, no joy. I will try one more time, but not hopeful. Thx tho. Resetting that is.
Is this happening before or after restoring all apps and settings.

Only installed the standard sammy and google apps, still does not charge phone automatically. System update today does not fix it. Safe mode has the same difficulty. I am stumped.
Okay, wiped, rebooted without app restore, did not install additional apps. Still unable to get the phone to stick with "charge this phone" even with developer options. Always defaults to "charge connected device". Wondering if I am going to have to send this back.
What does your USB configuration show in development mode? Make sure it's not on charge phone, select mtp. See if this helps.
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Tried all settings in the developer mode. USB configuration simply does not stick, always reverts to "charge connected device". On the security side it is a plus, I now have two factor authentication before I can charge.
I don't have any of these issues. T-Mobile version here
Going to get the firmware reflashed, hopefully that will fix it.
Reflash did nothing, will be looking for repair or replace options.
It's a hardware issue, that samsung will say is your fault. Good luck getting them to repair it. Front line samsung people will try to wear you down to get you to give up and save them money.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
It occurs when plugging into a Windows 10 machine.
If I set my phone on my wireless charger, it is fine and charges.
If I plug it in to it's wall charger, it is fine and charges.
However, when plugging into a USB2 or USB3 port on my Windows 10 PC, it defaults to file transfer and defaults to letting me open up my phone and gives me access to both my internal storage and microSD card installed in the phone. This is actually much nicer than my previous phone, which required a wireless FTP transfer app to do this.
On the one hand, this is desirable if you're using your wall charger or wireless charger to charge your phone, but I tend to set my phone to charge wherever is closest for me, which is often my PC. I may just have to bite the bullet and rearrange power cords to give me more outlets around my desk.

It may not be a hardware issue. My phone operates appropriately with the exception of interacting with Windows where is assumes I want to file transfer, but it occurs to me that it might be Windows setting the default setting to file transfer as it doesn't have a "Charge this device option from the PC side. It could just be choosing the one both devices share.
Oops nvrmd see you already tried some things.
After unlocking Developer Tools, I changed the USB setting to "Charge This Phone" and it worked properly, but gives the "is charging slowly" message, however doing this removes the option to adjust between the choices from the Notification list unless you default it to the "Transfer Media" setting, so you're probably better off not doing this.

Yeah on anything but a compatible 'fast charge' source you will get that message, and it will be much slower to charge than what you may be used to with wireless fast charger or brick fast charger.
Hi everyone
here I've got a terrible issue with my note 8 and SAMSUNG USB OTG.
When I connect my otg and a flash memory to phone, nothing happens, unless you force restart the phone while the otg is connected. After booting I can access to my flash memory but after removing the otg and reconnecting it, again nothing happens unless force restarting.
I've tried everything possible. Downgrading, upgrading, 4 files rom, pit file, rom from different zones, but still have the problem. I have no other issues regarding the USB port and charging, fast charging, connection to computer and any other stuff works fun but this OTG.
I wanted to know if anyone have any solutions for my problem or if anyone had the same issue or not.
it is also worth to mention that I have not rooted my phone due to warranty issues, and for that I haven't tested any kernels.
thanks for everyone

That isn't right... As soon as I plug in my OTG USB key it detects it, no restart required.

allow file transfer .... possible
Nope, I have developer options enabled but debugging isn't on. never had to enable file transfer.
When I plug in the OTG device I see a usb icon in the notification panel. Swipe down and pick explore. Mind you it only opens in the stock file explorer, I did have another file explorer that picked it up too but can't think what it is and it has been lost myriad of other apps I test and play with...
Just be aware that it may take a few seconds to scan the device, depending on size, and then display the icon.

i know it sounds weird but from past experience flaky USB drives are more trouble than they are worth, from first hand experience i know patriot, corsair and sandisk work well as OTG drive
also you neglected to mention the file system the USB was formatted with, i believe only FAT, FAT32 and exFAT are supported

also possible that the phone doesn't like your OTG adapter. I bought a usb 2.0 to type C adapter which doesn't even work on the phone - when I plug it in usually the moisture sensor error comes up saying water is in the device and I should let it dry. Unplug the OTG and the error goes away.
So... I bought a USB 3.0 A to type C OTG adapter and that one works fine with everything I've tested (usb flash drives, keyboard, usb ethernet adapter, etc)
I believe the USB-C to USB-A adapter that came with the phone is actually an OTG adapter (tested xbox360 controller and keyboard)
I also believe that the note8 can host usb flash drive native (no need for OTG cable) as i have a dual head USB-C and USB-A flash drive which is recognized once the USB-C end is plugged in

Sorry to dredge up a semi old thread, but has anyone found a fix for this?
I'm having almost the same issue, I finally decided to try out the OTG adapter from the box and nothing works, it isn't even recognized. Tried ps4 controller, mouse, keyboard 2 different thumb drives. Can't figure out what the deals is.
Other than that pc connection seems to work and charging works fine. TIA
I'm having a similar problem. A month ago, used both OTG adapters (original from Samsung and a generic one) it detects my memory sticks as a hard-disk and was able to manage my files. But since a couple of weeks ago it does not detect them anymore. Is like it did not supply charger to them anymore. I have tried the USB debugging menu and no difference at all. Even I got back to factory reset expecting to solve the issues but nothing happened. The port as such is working perfectly because I'm able to charge through it. On the other hand, Samsung DEX is not working as well. It just charges the phone but never boot-up.
I'm just waiting for Oreo and hopes this will sort the problems out.

Seems to be a little bit dusty. Anyway, the other thing is that, when the Usb is detected it ask to choose between transfer files, images, midi device and so on, even if I choose "transfer files" mode it always get stuck as "charge connected device".
Hi i have the same problem... my note 8 can connected mith my notebook, but my otg with an usb stick cant recognize my note8. I test the same otg with usb stick on my friends phone example S8 and it detects promptly all.
I hope the fixing take not long time. I waiting for help. Greets
Well, adding one more case here, my native file manager doesn't recognize any memory connected via the original otg conector, but, using x-plore file manager, problem solved, as I use x-plore since my symbian days, I never gave this issue much importance, this problem was present also with my note 7

This. I have exactly the same experience. I bought a couple of months ago a new Note 8, and finally decided to try the OTG adapter that came in the box. Nothing worked. I tried the adapter with a friends phone and it worked like magic (USB drives, mice, keyboards, controllers, etc.).
Would really apreaciate if anyone can provide help on this issue... Cheers!
Hi, My phone is showing these symptoms :
If I connect it using USB cable, no USB icon shows up in status bar, PC does not recognize any device connected to it(with or without driver you should be able to see a USB device connected to it) also it wont even charge!
Phone charges fine with charger
If I turn off phone and connect it to PC it will start to charge
Holding volume up and connecting to charger will result in LED turn blue and a black screen but still no USB device shows up in PC for fastboot
If I go into USB Preferences and connect the USB to PC everything is grayed out except enabling charge connected device
what I've tried :
Use different cable
Use different PC
Use different OS(windows10/Linux)
Reboot phone
Removing SD card and SIM card
Factory reset phone
Clean USB port
My phone is using latest Android pie Build 52.0.A.8.14, developer mode and USB debugging is also enabled.
I would appreciate if you let me know how to resolve this If you think it's not a hardware issue
Is there any way to install TWRP without having USB connection to the phone ?

I know this is a old thread, but
I have a similar issue, I need this phone for debugging purpose, and I "fixed" it by turn the usb-c around........
Just like the old usb.
I don't know why. I already tried multiple cables, all have "one side connection", it seems it's phone's hardware issue. But I'm not sure.
That's not the case for me, looks like some people are telling this has happened for them after updating to 52.0.A.8.50

I'm also having the same problem with the same phone (android 10 build 52.1.A.2.1).
This problem started yesterday and somehow my SD card is not recognized anymore, it's asking to reformat it.
Rotating the original usb cable does help!
Only it doesn't want to connect to finder on my Mac, I have yet to try a windows pc.
So i bought a used A2 for 5500 INR.
At first i thought it was a bargain but soon it turned out to be a nightmare.
The phone is full of bugs.
Worst one is that the phone only charges through the usb port. No data transfer of any sort. like an old nokia pin charger.
OTG doesn't work. It doesn't connect to the PC.
Whenever I plug in the OTG/connect it to pc, the usb options are all greyed out (same in the developers options default usb preference).
I can't even use Gcam now bcoz the PC doesn't recognise the device at all, so can't enable Camera2api, can't root, can't install ROMS... can't even buy a new phone cuz i have no money ???
turns out my phone also have the slow Emmc issue ?....read speeds are okay but write speeds are very slow... specially Random write (~10mBps).
I read many people have faced this issues. All those Posts are old, has anyone found a solution.
