How to root Lenovo K3 Note - idiot tutorial? - K3 Note Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a Lenovo K3 Note (Lemon) with Android 5.1. However, it is full of bloatware in Chinese. I would like to get rid of them but obviously I have to reinstall the OS. I know that here in this forum there are several better Android OS available.
Unfortunately I am an idiot when Android is concerned. I hope that someone would use some time to teach to me step-by-step how to install a good Android OS to my phone, preferably 6.0 or later. I have a PC (Win 10) in case it is needed.
Thanking everybody for trouble in advance!
OP

You have a forum in Spanish with a full thread of how to install an Android 6 here:
https://www.movilesdualsim.com/index.php?threads/144350/
Or Android 7, here:
https://www.movilesdualsim.com/index.php?threads/169971/

Sorry, bad Spanish

@Bundestank
if u r not a geek, your chances of bricking your phone r very high, my advise dun do it.
dun like chinese apps, simply disable them.
can't install google play store, install n use uptodown.apk ( http://en.uptodown.com/android ).
it can update your apps on your phone.
all custom roms r experiment roms, they have their unsolvable gitches.
stock rom is the most stable.
wats the point of having the latest roms tat r not running at optimum.
it probably run at base level due to hardware issue, even worst kill your phone.
ps:
all u can do is update rom from lollipop to marshmallow:
1) make u r connected to wifi (dun use data connection).
2) goto settings > about phone > system update
or use system update app.
3) done, simple even an idiot able to do it.

Increase performance by debloating your Android
Hi guys. So you're here to debloat your phone. That's OK.
Steps:
1: Root your phone.
2: Install Titanium Backup or Remove System Apps from play store.
3. Open any of the two apps>grant root access>with proper care and attention do the rest(never uninstall system module apps>debloated.
Merits: Will feel performance improvement.
Demerits: You tell me!
Hit thanks if helped!

Emulation || Running Lollipop 5.0 ROM on a Jellybean 4.2.2 device
Gentlemen,
I am a Gionee Elife E7 user. It runs on Jellybean 4.2.2. I wish to run this Lollipop 5.0 ROM on my E7.
But I dont want to flash it. Instead, I want to emulate it on my device. Like the same way how many people have run Windows XP on their Android device without actually disturbing the ROM installed on the device. I want to run this ROM on my Jellybean device. I guess this is known as Emulation.
Kindly provide help on this and the procedures required to do the same.

This is not possible, and no one has been able to "emulate" Windows XP on Android. Windows is closed-source and Windows XP does not work on ARM, only on x64/x86 architectures. And yes I know you're talking about emulation, but what you're saying is unrealistic of doing a virtual machine on your phone to a newer version of Android.
Google Now anytime
Is there a way to enable this on this rom? This is a nice feature and these options are grayed out under the google now settings.
Anyone else on sprint only have 1x after flashing this or is it just me
Voice in Google Now / Battery Life
Hey,
Does the Google Now Voice activation work with the screen off in this ROM? and what kind of battery life are you all getting on it?
Is there a way to flash this without having Google music thinking my phone is a new device? Thanks in advance.

I don't think so
I think there is a way to back up and restore the android device Id in titanium but I'm not sure of the procedure. I can find it on line but I was hoping some one who has successfully done it can attest to it working.
If you have titanium set to backup its data to the SD card the first time you launch it after flashing it will give you a pop up that says that the id has changed and asks if you want to change it back. Hit yes and the phone will reboot and it'll have the old id. Alternatively I think you can manage id's in titaniums settings as well
Yup I was just playing with that. But are we sure that will keep Google music from tagging the phone as a new device? Thanks again.
Can anyone confirm that restoring the android id stops Google music from recognizing the rom/phone as a new device? I hear this proposed as a solution but I've never heard that it actually works.
Loose call sound when i turn off touch sounds in settings. Comes right back up when i turn touch sounds back on. Not able to hear people I'm calling.
I don't see the HDR option in the camera app now. Do I need to use a different app?

Fixed, thanks InstigatorX! Edited build.prop and the HDR+ option comes back to the stock camera app. Taking photos with it works fine, no FC.

I'm using the Gmail app for all my e-mails, no issues there. I don't have an exchange e-mail though, we use google apps for our mail at work.

I'm not sure if this is a permanent fix or not. But after I install everything I deleted velvet out of the priv-app folder rebooted my phone. Then download Google search from the play store and moved it from data to system(priv-app) and rebooted again. I know have ok Google on lock screen and all. Also aside note if you try to leave search just installed on data side it will not allow you to do any thing besides ok Google in the search app. You have to move to system to get full function.

Old codger needs some help getting Xposed Framework installed

I'm an old guy who is new to making modifications to my phone and I really need some help.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with a stock ROM and running Android 5.01. I've installed TWRP and made a backup. From there, I'm a little lost. From the reading that I've done, I know that Samsung has a bootloop issue. I've downloaded the Xposed ZIP for Samsung but in the details it said it runs on Android 5.1 and above. Here is what I need to know.
1. Will the modified framework work on 5.01 or is there another version of Xposed that I should be running?
2. Does anyone know if there is a written guide or a good step by step video that can walk me through the setup? Most of the stuff that I'm reading is written for people with more background in Android modifications than I actually have. I'm kind of looking for something written for a novice, that takes me through all of the steps.
3. A really basic question here that will give you an idea of my experience level. Everything I've read about Xposed on the Note 4 says that you have to flash the framework to the phone. How do you do that? I know that may sound like a stupid question but I'm a beginner.
Any assistance will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to XDA.
Please have a look at this thread and read post #2.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/official-xposed-lollipop-t3030118
There you'll find all required information about how to identify the correct framework version for yourself. You have to use the framework version by XDA member arter97. A link to the corresponding thread can be found in the above mentioned post #2.
You have mostly set up everything that you need for flashing Xposed. Flashing means installing a file (either .zip or .img) through recovery. TWRP is a custom recovery, thus enabling users to flash custom modifications such as Xposed or custom ROM's. Just enter TWRP, chose Install, navigate to the file you want to install and proceed.
For video tutorials, just search YouTube for "flashing Xposed Lollipop Samsung" (or similar).
If you have further questions about the framework, please use the corresponding thread of arter97.
As an alternative, search XDA for "Material Design Xposed Installer". You'll find a thread of an unofficial version of the Xposed Installer app, which can help you to find and install the correct version in a more easier way. Don't worry about the description "unofficial", it is the same as the official version, beside the option to download and install framework versions for not officially supported versions like the one you need.
Thank you. Have run into another issue though and need further assistance.

Thank you for posting this thread. It helped me a lot but I've run into another issue. Specifically, deodexing my ROM. I've spent the better part of the past day researching this.
The thread you gave me has a link to a deodexing tool but I can't get it to work on the phone since windows 10 doesn't recognize the phone as a logical drive with a letter. Instead, it comes up by its name: Ganymede
Is there another way that you know of to deodex the ROM? I know that Titanium Backup Pro does deodexing but only for apps. They have a disclaimer that says they don't impact framework... which is what I'm assuming that I need to do. Or is there already a deodexed version of the stock Samsung ROM available to use? Again, I'm new to this so I really don't know what I'm looking for.

I am not familiar with how to deodex a ROM as I haven't done this before. But there is a dedicated sub-forum here on XDA for the Note 4 (even for different carriers, if this applies to you). A quick search for "Samsung Galaxy Note 4" will bring up all sub-forums. Identify the correct one for your device and check out the Q&A section or ROM development sections there. You might find either a guide about how to deodex a ROM, a deodexed ROM itself or a custom ROM, which does not necessarily need to be deodexed if it is based on an Android version different from 5.0.1.
As I am not familiar with both the Note 4 as well as the process of deodexing a ROM, I am afraid that I might be of no further help here. Hopefully you'll find some way in the above mentioned sub-forum.

Very seriously considering this. Have kind of been on 10 for the last couple months unable to go back until I seen this. What is the process to go from hydrogen to just plain old stock oxygen... Definitely interested in going back or at least attempting to try it out and see if it's what I remember it being, stable, better battery life, Etc. I can always go back to Android 10. If I miss it, but you be on a totally stable build would be kind of cool.

These are personal choices. If I prefer built-in call recorder in complete stock ROM, I have the option to switch on Hydrogen OS. If I like google eco system with stock ROM, I have the option of oxygen OS. Finally Hydrogen OS is for China and Oxygen OS for remaining Globe. Options are always good. Keeps people choosing
I recommend not using this , I flashed it and it's 100% Chinese edition.cant down load any Google apps.the browser is in chinese.if you want to down grade use an oxygen os downgrade zip.complete waste in my opinion.youve been warned.

Installing MIUI messaging and MIUI Dialer on LG V40 running stock rom PIE

So I've bitten the bullet and got this stunning phone for a great price.
I've moved from Xiaomi Redmi Note 7s.
I feel a bit letdown by the LG software as it's nowhere near MIUI in detailing, layout and what not. But I guess it's been talked a lot already.

3. I want connection speed on notification bar.
Please guide me as to how to do it. I did try to download from apkmirror site but it did not install.

Help to de-google my phone

G'day
I'm sick of google and everything they are about. Don't be evil my arse. I already do the simple stuff like using brave browser and duck duck go search. I'm hoping someone can advise me on how to strip my phone of as much google as possible and replace with aosp alternatives. Or even just point me towards some guides on it.
I am using a Samsung galaxy a22 5g rooted with magisk stock rom.
Thanks
I think you might want to flash a custom ROM, then use something like MicroG Magisk, NanoDroid or FOSSApps. Ungoogling an already Googled stock ROM might be more pain than flashing something community developed.
I'm currently running Lineage with Magisk GApps (so I can remove them anytime) and I'm slowly getting ready for the transition. So I'm also looking for more information.
I set up a VPS for myself (might be an overkill for you, but inspiration nonethelss) and I'm hosting OnlyOFFICE Community there and using their apps, I also host my own BitWarden password storage and a mail server (was kinda pain to set it up with all the methods for spam verification). This way some of my most sensitive data is kept on an encrypted drive on a server I myself control.
Then there's getting apps which are mainly available through Google Play - I found that uptodown does host apks, but that's far from an actually viable option (considering you really have to trust them when you're downloading apps there). Alternative stores providing the same apps as Google Play are always kinda worrying to use & trust.
So that's my two cents worth and a starting point, I'll also gladly accept some tips & tricks to accomplish this entirely, it's a long-lasting dream to leave Google altogether.

if you still want stock rom :
make a recovery backup of "system" just in case
mount system

system/app
system/priv-app
system/product/app
system/product/priv-app
(if you use A11+ check also system-ext/app and priv-app)
delete anyhing related to google
if you don't want to delete use lucky patcher or titanium backup to freez them
if you choose freezing, make a recovery backup of "data"

Hey thanks for the reply and info. Flashing an aosp custom rom would be my usual go to. However I've been on an oppo with unlockable bootlader for last 18 months and now I got this samsung I find there is zero rom dev on this phone. The only options I can find are GSI which is a new concept to me and I'm a little uncertain about going that route.

Cheers for this. Agree on the first statement but having been on an oppo with unlockable bootlader for last 18 months and now I got this samsung I find there is zero rom dev on this phone. The only options I can find are GSI which is a new concept to me and I'm a little uncertain about going that route.
Do you think I should go with a GSI rom? If safe and stable I'm happy to do the research because I'd love to get a custom aosp rom going on this.
Afaik this samsung can't even access fastboot gotta use the Samsung flashing software instead and the only thread on twrp for this phone is experimental and doesn't seem to be confirmed as working by anyone.
Hence why so far I've stuck with stock and magisk
I used to flash heaps of roms and kernels on older devices but this whole GSI thing is new to me. If it's dicey I'll go the TB route with the folders you pointed me to. Cheers

if yo can backup system/vendor/boot/dtbo/data then go for it
if not , you will have to reflash the stock if anything goes wrong ...

"google Extservice" or something like that

Cool cheers for your help mate. Touche on the last point. New job with nice pay bump coming so that will be the go I think.
I use Graphene OS on my Pixel 6 and CalyXOS on the 4a. Both are very good degoogled ROMs.
I built a Magisk module for this some time ago. However, it's very likely that it won't work anymore and will probably cause a bootloop. I'm only posting it in case someone wants to use the repo as inspiration.

you forgot to mention that both GrapheneOS and CalyXOS are available ONLY for the Pixel phones
and the Pixels have a unique feature - the bootloader can be locked back AFTER flashing a custom ROM
Well I stand corrected ( said the man in the orthopaedic shoes)
