Every time I go to General->Language and input->Text-to-speech, the Settings app hangs. Using Note 5 SM-N920C with Extreme Debloated ROM, v 3.3 (Android 6.0.1). I've seen threads that suggest freezing the Samsung TTS engine, but have not found which specific app to freeze (and haven't found any obvious candidates).
Anyone else run into this?

Extreme Debloated rom caused that issue... You were loosed both Google TTS apk and Samsung TTS apk ( if you were on 7.0)on pri-app folder. Scrabble both apk from another rom then paste them into your system / pri-app / set permission for folder and the apk inside then reboot device. It may help you.

Thanks for your answer. I am on Android 6.0.1, so not sure if the directions will work. Also, can you explain "paste them into your system / pri-app / set permission for folder"
I had installed directly the Google and Samsung TTS apps, but still no joy.

Sorry my mistake, both apk folder were in system / app instead of pri-app. Copy & paste that meaning: you should use File Manager like Root Explore or X-plore to open the root / system / app folder / paste both apk with folder into app folder. See the screenshot attach below.

I installed a MIUI Music app from my SD card using CWM, but after trying it out I'd like to remove it. When I go to remove it however, I don't get the option to uninstall. How can I remove it?

I've tried ES File Explorer and File Expert, both free alternatives to Root Explorer. I've given the apps root permissions but they aren't successfully deleting the file (as seen by errors shown in post 1).
I'm wondering if I have R/W permission, but I can't find anywhere to enable or disable that in either app I'm using.
[edit]
Using File Expert under Settings>Mount there is Mount as Read Write
This did the trick
glad you got it done

You've been very helpful the past few days, AzzleDazzle! Thank you!
I was on MIUI v3 last week and thought the ROM itself was OK, I switched to Darky 10.1 for now (maybe CM7 next)...but I really liked the MIUI Music app. I found a copy in the apps section on xda but it wasn't the same version as the one I was using on v3, was missing some features I liked (slide up/down now playing menu). I asked for someone from the MIUI Dev thread to get me a copy of the APK, but after pushing it to /system/app (see, I know how to do that now) and rebooting, it wasn't in my app menu, and when I select it in File Expert it says "Error parsing file package"
have you tried to extract the app and push the files to the right location ??
im not 100% on this i have been with CM - MIUI for ages now, so i forgot a lot about the samsung based ROMs,
anyway i have extracted the MIUI music app from my latest MIUI release, give it a try and see what happens with this version

You have to install the radio.apk on your internal storage. To do this copy your file via root explorer into /system/app.
Then you choose the apk by tapping it for some seconds.

A new window appears and you have to choose permissions.
Now you put ticks in the first two spots in the first line, in the first spot of the second line and in the first spot of the third line. The other spots have to be empty. Should look like this:
Then you have to reboot. You don't have to install the app. Just reboot and the app will be installed after the next reboot

Even after all these years later....as long as you have a compatble fmradio.apk working chipset and root? This method STILL works.... up to android 10 anyways. Haven't tested 11
It just doesn't install otherwise....you bloody well need root to run this system app
I was having issues with my google play store so I clicked "uninstall updates" and now it is gone. I don't have a market at all so I need to know which folder the vending.apk file goes in so I can manually reinstall it.
Can anyone tell me where to place the apk file?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Hopfully this will help.

I tend to see the Market/Play Store hiding in /system/app/Vending.apk
Just download/install it from http://goo.gl/iRtA7 and make sure unknown sources is checked in settings and you should be good.
Thank you for all of the help. I finally got it installed but the weird thing is in the system/app folder the file is called phonesky.apk and is version 3.4.7 and in the data/app folder it is called com.android.vending and is version 3.5.16. I am not sure if the versions are supposed to match or not. I'm thinking maybe I should replace the older version with the newer and see what happens?

I'm not sure how your phone is set up but this is what happened to mine.
My phone is currently flashed 904 leaked update, Safestrap dualboot Eclipse 2.2 902.
Market would not work properly because of GooglePlay update. I ended up having to use Titanium Backup on my unsafe system to backup the GooglePlay app.
After the backup I went into the Market and uninstalled it on my "safe" system Eclipse 2.2. Note that phonesky.apk was no longer needed and it deleted the file.
Reinstalled GooglePlay through TB on my ROM and have not had the connection/download issues since.
Note that phonesky.apk in the /system/app folder is no longer there (confirmed in ESFileExplorer).
Also com.android.vending.apk is in the /system/app folder not in /data/app on my phone.
I would replace phonesky.apk with the com.android.vending.apk.
This basically deletes the market and loads Play Store as your app market.

I think they changed the package name so OpenGapps script can't delete it anymore. Idk if that's true or not but you can delete the app manually through twrp's root explorer. The folder must be under /system/priv-app or /system/app, when you find it just delete it and it should be good

Thanks, but the funny part is, I have deleted Dialer package during aroma installation, then when I restarted my phone, I noticed it was gone already, but before I could install it from google play, it reappeared! And that is what I cannot explain and want to figure out. any thoughts? Should I also delete Dialerframwork? (OpenGapps page says it is essential)

If you want to uninstall the LOS dialer then don't touch dialer framework, but if you want to uninstall google dialer uninistall it. I don't get why it reappears tho. Try to remove it manually please, that way you'll be sure the package was deleted
