hello, maybe someone can help to solve this problem:
in every Nougat rom i try, and i tried them all, the screen is exteremely dark. so dark that i can barely see it. even when i turn automatic brightness off and putting brightness to 100% it's still extremely dark.
On Marshmallow roms it's ok, but unfortunately every CM based marshmallow roms are buggy and reboots every time i put airplane mode off.

Has anyone ever had this issue if so how do i fix it anyhelp is cool im running stock lollipop just received the updated and im not blaming 5.0 foe this bug because this bug has been with this phone since kitkat, so the brightness works but sometimes i notice that the screen is brighter than it needs to be, then if I toggle the auto brightness off then back on it corrects it's self. Its very annoying if you want your batter charge to last longer.
This is my first Lollipop device after a long time with Kitkat, so I may be missing something obvious, but I just can't wrap my head around Adaptive Brightness.
So when it's set to on it adjusts the brightness based on the light sensor, but I can also use the slider to tweak it, correct? But then sometimes the slider just stops working, moving it doesn't change the brightness at all. Only way to make it work again is to change the lighting significantly (for example I point the phone at a lamp). After the auto-adjustment kicks in I can tweak it with the slider again. Is this a bug, or yet another misguided "feature"? Do I have a hardware problem? I've tried a few sensor apps and everything seems to work fine. On top of the auto adjustment not being as good as Kitkat's, the inconsistency is really bothering me.
EDIT: I am on stock rom. I'm sure that CM12 would solve this problem if it's a Lollipop bug, but I can't be arsed with a custom rom a this time. Looking for a stock based solution, or at least an explanation for this strange behaviour.
Hello everyone and sorry in advance if my question seems too stupid or issue looks non-reproducible.
I suppose everyone here agrees that there is no night mode in 7.1.1 on Nexus 6.
But nevertheless I have very odd 'night-mode'-like issue in auto-brightness behavior on my Nexus 6 running stock 7.1.1.
I have noticable brightness jumps exactly on sunrise and sunset times (up and down respectively) and much darker brightness levels at night. This is sometimes annoying and sometimes useful.
Earlier when flashing OTA from 7.0 to 7.1.1 I've unintentionally left night mode turned on (feature enabled by eponymous app).
Can anyone give advise on ADB commands to modify possible reminiscent auto-brigtness-related settings?
I want to to turn off this mode or at least confirm I'm not hallucinating on this but don't want to make the whole factory reset.
So I was appreciating the beautiful display on the Note 8 and it's abilities again today by watching a HDR video from YouTube on it, but I noticed something weird. Whenever I went from a bright to a dark environment, (lit bedroom to dark living room) the screen would drop to a lower brightness, then realize it's in HDR mode and go all the way back up, and it would alternate multiple times as I moved around in the dark environment. It would drop to a low brightness, pick back up to full, drop, repeat. Can anyone else test to see if this is happening with theirs too?
Settings: WQHD+ resolution, Auto Brightness enabled, Video Enhancer enabled

This will help me confirm whether it is indeed a software bug introduced in Oreo/April Patch or if it's my own hardware that's having issues. Thanks for the help!
I would say it is a software bug.
This was happening to me after the Oreo update, unsure what I done that resolved it though but, after flashing a custom rom and going back to stock it has worked fine for me. Using the same Oreo package that I used to update to Oreo the first time also.
I am really sad to hear about all these bugs due to OREO updating, they make me think that it has far more cons than pros over nougat, in my country no Oreo ota yet, I will stay this way until a really good oreo comes out...
Currently using PixelExperience Plus ROM. Was using HavocOS before this. There were similar issues in both the roms.. The proximity sensor just won't work during calls. Phone needs a restart to fix this.. goes back to problematic in a short while..
The autobrightness sensor issue is less frustrating.. waking up the device the brightness gets stuck at about 50%. The slider does nothing.. locking the screen and waking up again solves it. Minor issue..
But.. does anyone have a fix?
Same problem here with latest oficial rom. Randomly screen goes black in a call although the phone is on a table.
Same problem here
Why do Xiaomi seem to have such a problem with proximity sensors?
The one on my Note 7 doesn't work properly and a google search reveals complaints about sensors on many models.
It's not as if they are rocket science any more.
Could this also be the reason when I receive a call the phone screen on some occasions didn't even light up and I have to double tap to see who's calling. I really hope it's something they can fix.
Did anyone get a fix? I still have this goddamn problem! Even with the latest evolution x rom or pixel experience rom (tried the latest version released like days back for both roms). This problem started right after I unlocked my bootloader and flashed a custom ROM and the problem is present in EVERY custom rom that I've tried. Please help me out with a fix as this is really annoying and the phone is practically useless. As soon as I make a call or get a call my display simply shuts down and doesn't switch on until 30 secs after the call ends. So my display is basically off for easy 2-3 minutes. Can't use my phone then. This sucks when I've dialled a wrong number or want to cut the call myself because I can't do any of that!
