android kitkat 4.4 one oneplus 3t ! - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

so.. i have been flashing roms all over the place on my 3t on my opo and my i9100 the s2!
and i remembered that the opo and s2 run a lot faster and battery life was great on kitkat !
just wondering, is there a chance to run a kitkat rom on the oneplus 3t...

Awesome question

Only Ice Cream Sandwich, but it is better this way, it is faster than KitKat.

what's faster? what version?

In one word: NO. I mean it could be possible if we would have the drivers and everything, but its a really hard thing to do and also pointless... Nougat is the fastest.

It's like running Windows 95 on your spanking new computer, it's going to run really quick but not very useful as many Google services will soon stop updating on Kitkat due to them stop using those older APIs.
Also, before project butter, Android wasn't as smooth when scrolling and moving between apps and such. I wouldn't want to go back before that. ?

anyone seen this: http://gsminsider.com/2013/11/miui-android-4-4-kitkat-february-2014/
i know there is much hate on miui. i've used it in the past on other phones and it was not a bad experience.
Nice, looking forward to try out miui once it becomes available.

I'd like to see this working, but the last phone I owned that had a fully functional, non-buggy MIUI rom was the Samsung Fascinate back in 2011. Every other phone I've owned since then (roughly 6-7 devices) have had buggy, incomplete and/or barely usable MIUI roms. As much as I hate to say it, I feel like MIUI's time has come and gone.

Hmm I never really ran into crazy bugs. The biggest issue is lack of device support, it can be a major pain the ass to get them to work on new devices.
It took forever for them to release for the nexus 4 but when they did it was pretty solid.
I hope they do release a build just so i can give it a shot, probably not a daily driver.
I have some bad news.
I'm a Chinese and I have talked with one of MIUI's employers this morning.
MIUI will officially support Nexus7(2013) running 4.4.X in the future but it will take a few months before official release. (I guess it's because of their MiPad)
Nexus 5 is not on the support list right now. (Sun Peng is always bluffing on Weibo) (And Nexus4's MIUI is supported by developers rather than MIUI)
MIUI will not release 4.4.x patchrom in the near future because only few devices running KitKat now.
So, I don't think there will be a MIUI patchrom for 4.4.X before Feb.

Yep, same here. I think the last bug free version of MIUI I ever experienced was the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V, lol!
Then again, this is the first Nexus device I've owned after owning the S2 and S4, and I must say that this device is so much easier to mod than any other device, so we'll see.

True. Honestly though, even a perfect MIUI rom isn't going to have a place on my phone. It was great back in the Gingerbread days since stock Android wasn't really "there" yet, but I don't see what kind of advantage it could really offer over stock KitKat. In particular, I see the lack of an app drawer as a major hindrance at this point. My homescreen setup has gotten more and more efficient over the years (I'm down to 2 home screens + GNow). The last thing I want now is to have all of my apps puked out on a zillion homescreens and then try to organize it all. I realize I can use another launcher, but to me that kind of defeats the purpose of flashing MIUI in the first place.
Lets wait for it Tried miui v5 in htc desire S and it works great
And updates weekly is awesome.
had miui on htc desire, htc sensation, s2, didnt have official on nexus4....i cant imagine how good it will work on nexus 5

With note 2 miui was the only ROM that was lag free, especially when turning off the screen with CRT animation, it was the only ROM that was smooth...but not even comparable with stock n5

(Request) Lollipop on Galaxy S Advance

Hi guys,
Is there any chance of seeing Android 5.0 lollipop on this device.
Sorry if this is a repost.
Thank you
Noooooope.
Can any of the developers to port the art to any of our phone? Because this time is with full features and well optimised. It would increase stability more than it is in this moment . I would to like to see that effort that it would be made for this thing to be possible. Everything is possible if you really want

Android 5.0 Lollipop from Team Canjica probably will never see the light. In our opinion, Galaxy S Advance and in generally STE-based devices are too weak to handle well another Android major release.
The fact is that more time passes, more OS and applications become heavier and complex.
Was a pain to get a "stable" (between quotes since still has some issues like huge battery drain, that can't be fixed) Kitkat.
Another major release means heavier, more complex, CPU even with OC is too slow to handle and execute well threads, RAM memory is too little and this means lags, impossibility to run big apps and the Mali 400 single core GPU is too weak for more complex graphic effects in games that will come and especially in transitions between menus, pull down status bar etc. The last perfect major release for this device is Jelly Bean 4.3, to build any major release means that we need to research and find (with A LOT OF TESTING) how to fix bugs, means that we need to develop new OMX patches to make camera and videos working. KitKat is okay but huge battery drain and a lot of lags are signal that it's the last major release that these STE devices can handle in a non-stable way against JB 4.3 that it's almost (to not say "totally") stable. Now, stop a moment and imagine Lollipop, totally ruined user experience. Do you wanna live together with device lagging 99/100 times (1/100 without lags rightly after power on, maybe) and with charger always connected? We should be lords of our devices, not slaves. Nobody of us still uses a STE device and without is totally impossible to develop what has never been developed, if you want to keep updated I'm sure that you would change device asap, today even a 100€ device is more powerful than these. Janice will be 3 years old on April 2015, it's just the future coming...
We loved this device, development, known good guys here... Officially this device died on 4.1, Team Canjica gave you 3 major releases!!!

Thats sad and brutal true.
O our device is not a tytan of performance .
But still (IF u look and test all CM builds (starting form CM 10) u will see that CM 11 is the most stable.
On jellybean roms (CM based) there are bugs that were fixed in KITKAT.
As AntaresOne told our device is anable (propably) to boot android 5.0/CM 12 . But whats the point od having phone thats compleatly out of RAM and need charger after 5 hours in deepsleep ?
But still having bootnable lolipop will be interesting (for testing).

What I meant is yes, KK ROMs are stable about bugs (except huge battery drain), but in the performance profile? They're very fast but just some minutes and will start to lag...
Galaxy S Advance may surely boot Lollipop, but can't handle well!

And fix 4.3 bugs?
Will be awesome, Rox did it for codina and work so good.
I think it'd be awesome to get on stable build of cm10.1 since so many say it is fast with good battery life. Personally I haven't tried it due to the remaining bugs.

I can't believe finally our s advance will not receive android lollipop; i must agree, why there are some older and less performant device which receive cyanogenmode 12????i think s advance still has. Some potential,( although his age); it was (and still) my first android phone, i think it is a great phone ...it will remain forever in my mind... I just remeber when yuo develop cyanogen mode 11 android kitkat ,and i flash it, ....you did a miracle! Actually i still use it, no bug(just a little sometimes), no lags, work very fine, so let the miracle repeat!
I think the fault was of samsung tha wasn't clement with this device (samsung suck).., they release a very awfull upgrade , very very bad, a lot of bug, at the time, it lag also to reproduce video, on browser web...it was unusable, so thi was the reason why i installed cyanogen mode; so i hope, you will hear our prayers...let the miracle repeat again!!!

Install stock android marshmallow (with material design)?

Hiya!
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, the 9.2". I am really pleased with the performance, looks, weight (it's like a feather!), but there is one thing I miss greatly from my old Nexus 7: Material Design
I really like how simple and neat it looks, honestly. I've been doing some research and the only options I'm finding are installing the Samsung 6.0.1 firmware. Has anyone successfully managed to install and run the stock Marshmallow, like the one that the Nexus device runs?
For the moment we only have cm12.1 and cm13 which are close to stock (plus cm theme and tweaks) Android but are still in development (not considered as stable build)

Considering OP just bought the device, it is more than likely a 2016 model that does not have an available Cyanogenmod yet.

There were some improvements, but nothing to write home about. I'm irritated that Sammy gives theme support to their new phones and don't even allow us to set to a darker theme to preserve battery without doing the salt the earth battery saver feature. :silly:
I don't think you're missing much with this update, more disappointment than anything, I also don't think OP's tablet is a 2016 because s/he isn't already on MM... I heard it shipped with MM. Sammy knows best. Sammy also leaves flagship android tablet with broken promises... and dreams. "Theme support coming" my eye.
I think it's telling that you can mod your build prop and install theme store from a shady source and it works... (haven't tried, the topic is floating around here somewhere.)
I hope at least this will mark an acceleration of update cycles for security purposes, especially since some researcher endorsed sammy devices for update speed.
Thanks everyone for the quick answers! I guess my only option is to wait for a more stable and fully functional Cyanogen then. I guess patience will be the key here :-/
My model is definitely the 2015, as it came with Lollipop and I had to download Marshmallow myself via the update tool, btw. Not much worried as the changes seem to be minimal though.

Will custom ROM support extend for a long time after 7.1?

I was debating on keeping this phone, as I wonder how long custom ROMs will support newer Android versions after Nougat. I recently got an iPhone 6 Plus for cheap have enjoyed the much better battery life, but I still love the Android Operating System so much more.
I noticed Nexus 5 support has been quite strong, but I cannot tell how long it will/can go for. (I do not visit this forum often, only to download Pure Nexus updates when I used my Nexus as a daily.)

I've here for many years. There are good devs supporting devices/roms; also when the original company stops supporting.

Well the galaxy Nexus just got unofficial 7.1 and it's pretty old so..........
I can guarantee that you will have custom builds for as long as you continue to build them for yourself.

Nexus 5 is 4 years old today.

And still going strong.
Still getting OS updates on DarkROM nougat.
Oreo is nearly ready for daily driver. Thanks devs.
This thing just keeps on working.
My 6p died. Symptoms: Boot Loop of Death. Now I am here posting from my Nexus 5. Works like a champ ^^
Which rom do you recommend? there will be miui 9 for nexus 5 would be great
Congrats for this amazing device. \m/ still rocking.
still rocking my Hammerhead. One of my favorite android device.
Actually i have Miui 8 on my nexus 5 and works very well after 4 years. But recently i broke the glass screen (not display) and sometimes power button go in stuck. So i was looking for a new device, but there are no more new nexus. Pixel are so expensive and also OnePlus become expensive with the 5 and 5T models (3T was the last good oneplus phone for price-quality ratio in my opinion, but unfortunately i can't buy it anymore from official site). Soooo (this is the last "so", promised) somebody has any idea which phone i could buy for a price from 350$ to 450$ ?
I'm looking mainly for a device with a good developers community like Nexus and OP. Thank you!
I hope my Nexus 5 will work well at least till end of next year.
But e.g. HTC U11 Life looks promising.
It's still the most stable phone I own, and has the widest range of custom roms available for it I've ever seen.
Long live 5 :good:

Go for a used first gen Google Pixel.
As much as I enjoy comparing phones, there is no direct replacement for the N5. Other phones are always missing something, but - to be fair - make it up on other areas.
If you like the size, you could go for the pixel, but good luck finding that one and for a decent price.
The Android One devices look great if all you want is bare Android with updates, but it remains a question how long that will continue. The dev community is non-existent at the moment as far as I can tell, so no root or custom roms.
I have my sights on the Moto G5 Plus as a next device: decent price & specs (memory/storage/sd) and an active xda community. It's a bit larger and heavier and doesn't have wifi ac for instance.
I am getting bored of my N5, but then there's this new flood of roms coming out and you can play with the latest stuff in such an attractive form factor... I can't find an excuse anymore....
I'd go for a used Pixel, Oneplus 5 (if you has the cash) or, if you want to really stay in the cheap but good af area, Xiaomi A1, in my mind, it's the real nexus 5 replacement.
Anyway, for now I'm still rocking my N5.
I think i'll go for a second hand OnePlus 3T. But Essential Phone is very gorgeuos *.*
I'm running nougat now but i feel it consumes too much ram and occasional lag is common on device with only 2GB of ram. Does anyone still rocking an old android version? I'm looking for a slightly older OS that best for N5 performance + battery. Which rom + kernel do you think is the best? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions, so i tried AOSIP 7 for a while. It was smooth at first, but then it become quite laggy like nougat, youtube loads longer, fullscreen video rotate took more effort to load. I can't rely on multitasking if i opened facebook app and some app simultaneously. Also, initial memory usage is a lot. I must use facebook + page manager + ads manager because of work purposes and i felt like i was using a cheap 100$ phone [emoji23]
So i remembered pure nexus & nitrogen rom glory back in marshmallow day. So i went back, flashed latest pure nexus marshmallow 6.0.1 + blu_spark 108. I think i will stick on this rom from now on.

I think you're absolutely right. N and O lag way too much where it counts: memory management. I went back to stock M recently, and even though the GUI stutters a bit, the things you mentioned plus the keyboard popping up quickly are what make this NOT feel like a $100 phone.
