Is it a bug or a feature that default sms app is unable to resolve number saved without country code But when the sms arrives it has country code.
If it's the intended behavior then I haven't seen more lazy development for a default sms app than this

Good question, Google Android Messages app which I've used since Android 6 doesn't act like that, so it must be a feature ?
Related
I've some contacts that have multiple numbers associated.
Untill I used my HTC HD with winmo 6.5 sms threading aggregated messages by author (contact).
Now both the default sms app, as well as GO SMS PRO thread the messages by number!
This results in me having double or triple threads for all the people with multiple numbers!
Not only that, they could prefer me to vehiculate messages to a particular number (a default number) while they answer from another. That isn't possible anymore.
Is there a workaround for this?
if I don't mix up things now, Handcent SMS should work fine!
I've got just a few contacts with multiple numbers, but if I remember correctly, the SMS are sorted by contact, not number!
Correct me if I'm wrong

That would be my ideal working mode.
And what I expected.
But, as I said, two different apps show the same behaviour: two threads for messages coming from two numbers of the same contact.
Hi
I have the same issue, some of my contacts have multiple numbers, as they sometimes reply using a different SIM card or are in a different country. In Go SMS Pro threads list, they are listed multiple times instead of a single contact. I have checked and I do not have any duplicates in my contacts. I'm using HTC Desire Z updated to Gingerbread and the stock HTC messages app displays them fine (i.e. as a single thread). Has somebody found a solution? Or is it the way Go SMS is designed to work?
Thanks,
Hai
I suspect it's how GO SMS, as well as Google own messaging app, is designed.
I haven't found any other app that deals correctly with this so far
Are you sure? I'm using an HTC and their default messaging app and there messages are threaded by contact rather than number. Maybe only HTC does it...

Mine is just a guess: previously I had a WM 6.5 Htc HD and it did work as I expected. Same happened for every rom i flashed, but they all came with Sense.
Now that I moved to Android I can't find any messaging app doing what I expect it to do, so maybe it really was something special by Htc...
Sorry to resurrect this thread, but has something changed in this regard yet. Don't like the fact that one contact clogs up my whole sms tray. Am more than willing to pay for this feature.
I echo the sentiments of the others. Hath such an app or mod entered into existence at this time to accomplish this particular purpose?
Solution?

I don't think there is any solution yet.
Found contact+, its messaging does this, but you get all other things you might not want.

Try Contacts+. Its plugins are required for the whole app to function. But threads like you described exist in this app. I just wish the others would follow Contact+'s lead. It's available on the Play Store. Please remember to thank me if this works for you. Features Google+ integration and Facebook, whatsapp, foursquare, and LinkedIn as well as twitter. These apps may need to be installed too.
oops. looks like the question is already answered.
Hey everyone.
It is true that there is no convinient app that could hold multiple numbers of a contact in the same thread. I tried Contacts+, but this function is the only thing why I did this.
Actually I like Textra for the plain interface.
Why I am writing - developers of Textra seem to act quick for requested features. So I've added this feature here textra.uservoice.com/forums/208555-feature-request/suggestions/5728235-single-thread-for-a-contact-with-multiple-numbers .
If you're interested in this you could give your voice for the feature and maybe we would have a great sms app.
A little off topic: also I've added another feature request - textra.uservoice.com/forums/208555-feature-request/suggestions/5728169-split-group-sms-thread
So contacts+ is still the only solution?

Dear
In HTC One Stock Messaging App there is no option to send contact number as SMS it has to send as " VCard" and many devices like Samsung not support this .. can we enable this option as Stock Application.
i know there are many sms applications are available on Paly Store but i want this option in Stock Messaging App.

What android phone actually supports this? IMO, just download the app from the play store. It's going to be a lot faster than decompiling the messaging apk, adding the feature, and doing all that. Not to mention finding someone that knows how to do it.
Anyone else who got this update?? If yes what are the new features?? It only says bug fixes. But i noticed that joyn was uninstalled and is now included in the sms app. I can change at the top between sms and joyn. But i don't know how pictures are send via mms, or via joyn. And i cannot change to sms for ever. So evertime i reopen sms the text message will be send via joyn if i don't change it for every message. Is there a way to make SMS to default??

Check the version number, I think it might be 4.4.4. As far as joyn is concerned, I have heard about it for the first time.....mainly because it only may have a user base in Europe. Joyn wasn't included in my phone.(Bought mine in Saudi Arabia)
Still on 4.4.2. Maybe the Telekom just moved joyn and sms together in one app. My one is branded.

Most likely, carrier branded phones usually have a different software version and update cycle
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can confirm this apparent P10 bug?
When entering the digits of a (numerical) phone number in the dialler, the dialler app closes before I can enter the whole number - usually immediately after the third digit has been entered. It doesn't seem to matter whether the number is associated with an existing contact or not.
I'm running an L09 rebranded to L29 (B171), with a single SIM, and am rooted.
Off to the play store to look for third-party diallers...
At the third digit the dialer starts looking for the number you are dialing in the contact list. Maybe you deleted the default contacts app?
Many thanks M1chiel,
I hadn't deleted the contacts app, but I <had> changed the default messaging app to Google Messages.
Reverting to the stock Huawei Messaging app seems to have fixed the issue. Not sure why this should be (I'm not a fan of the Huawei app....)

It's clearly a bug. I also didn't like the stock app that much, but eventually I got to appreciate it.
I noticed today that I had a total of 12 messages that were in the Samsung messages app that never arrived to my default app (google messages). Also noticed when I'm doing verification text from PayPal and cash app they arrive in the Samsung messages app instead of my default app. Has anyone else seen this before?
I had a total of 12 messages from customers that never arrived to my default Google messages.
No I haven't. I use Google Messages and get all my texts. SMS permissions are on in Messages's app settings aren't they?
All permissions are turned on, it only happens with certain senders and paypal / cash app. I tested with my wife's s8 on same thing happens with PayPal.
I couldn't use my 3rd party SMS app at all. When I chose it as the new default, I got an OS level warning that it was unsupported and I might not get SMS as a result. Sure enough, it didn't work at all so I had to revert to the (terrible) Samsung app. Pretty crappy lock-in, especially if you have a database of old SMS from a 3rd party app you wanted to restore.
Haven't seen that before. I'm using Google Messages with RCS activated

I wonder what would happen if you used something like CCSWE and disabled Samsung Messaging.
So is this a real thing? I want to pick up an s10 today but don’t want that crap happening
Hundreds or thousands of people have seen this thread, nobody has tossed out a "me too"... I think you're safe.
Having an issue as well with Android Messenger, it refuses to send from Sim 2 but can receive messages. For some reason the Samsung Messenger no matter how much you shut off refuses to release itself. I despise Samsung Messenger , in fact I despise all the Samsung apps.
