Does anybody else get super SLOW performance when charging?

Whenver I'm charging via wall charger or USB my captivate is super duper SLOOOWWW. It takes forever to switch screens, the keyboard doesn't function correctly, and my bluetooth won't sync. As soon as I disconnect the charge everything is back to normal.
Any ideas?

Ive noticed it charges slowly but I have not noticed it being slow while charging.
The theoretical output of the charger is .7 amps, and thats not very much in the smartphone world these days. When I am using it and it is plugged in, it charges roughly a percent every eight minutes. The .7 amps must be just enough to cover the phone being on and in use.
I am currently looking around for chargers in the 1 amp range. My old tilt 2 charger works great for that and i definitely saw a charge time improvement. I would love to have one with a greater than 1amp output but I dont think you can find them anywhere

Are you running SetCPU with set profiles ?
If Yes : that is the problem , adjust profile.
If Not : must be something else, not a common behavior.

I read this on another forum but someone mentioned changing the default usb setting from Kies to something something else may help.

No, mine doesnt do that. It runs the same whether its plugged into the wall charger or not.

As long as the output is 5 volts, you're o.k.

My captivate runs the same while charging but the actual process of charging the phone takes forever it seems. I've only had it a couple days now and I have to get used to killing some tasks while charging because I actually think the battery life was decreasing as it charged.
Incidentally, the display is the real killer on the battery...most tasks don't really eat as much battery life in comparison.

Recent Nokia chargers will work with a slight mod to the plug where it fits the phone,

After Pimping out my phone it works fine while charging now. Yea screen eats up like 82% of batteries resources...OUCH!

Just search for Motorola P513 on Amazon. Rapid rate car charger! And, belive me, it's perfect fit! Now on sale for $5.85 (was $29.99).

I agree with the device charging slowly (but then again it doesn't help that I'm using it while it charges) but I have not had any performance issues.

for those of you who have a old iphone/ipod touch charger block, use that instead.
its rated for 5V/1A output, higher than the 5V/.7A output on the default samsung charging block.
that should charge the phone much faster

I have the same issue with charging, no matter what charger I use (iPhone, Tilt, USB), it's all VERY painfully slow. I've been as high as 1% per 6 minutes (rare - when using Nokia charger (1.2A I believe) to 1% per 13 minutes via USB.
I'm thinking it might be something internal to the actual phone. The iPhone didn't take this long even with USB charging through a computer or LCD monitor. Heck, the iPhone on average was 90 seconds per 1% of battery. I could have a nearly dead phone and be fully charged and ready in less than an hour and a half.
Anyone else think the same?

yea i think it might be something related to the phone indeed. this is, in my opinion, the biggest problem. i'm always on the go and i depend on my phone so much that if it doesn't charge fast enough i'm screwed.

which thread is that? I'm curious to track that one as well. I have gotten 4 other people to purchase the Captivate from the iPhone and we are all on the same boat..even with a 1.2A charger from my N97 (which only lasted 3 weeks with me...but can't wait for the N8), it takes about 4 hours to charge the battery...something's wrong there. It shouldn't take less to drain the battery than to charge it!

Samsung Charger better than LG's

Hey everyone
Just want to ask if anybody noticed the same as me regarding the charger of LG:
if I plug the charger and use the phone it heats up really fast and charging speed is slow. The heat slows down my 4X HD and the performance is sh*tty as hell.
I once forgot my charger an used one from my dad's Samsung and I noticed a incredible difference. No heating at all and it charges much faster (with LG over night ~ 8 hours sometimes not even fully loaded from 15%, with Samsung 4-5 hours full with YouTube use and other minor things).
When I use my phone while plugged with LG charger it often even drains some battery (2-3% in 20 mins discharge, then charge up to 5% in the same time and so on).
Have anybody got the same "problems" or has my charger maybe a hardware failure?

Weird. My phone charges from 0%-80% in like 1 hour, then the last 20% tend to take while longer. But also if I "Overcharge" it (that is to say charge it for about 2 hours when it's still 100%) it feels like it has charged 110%. Cause it takes forever to go down to 99% but then it decreases faster.
This is with the included LG charger. If I use my samsung (which is like 500mah) it takes longer.
I don't experince any performance decrease when charging.

Are you on stock rom or on a custom rom? I'm on WerewolfJB and that's maybe why it heats up but the faster charging with the Samsung charger is really noticeable, especially when I use the phone, like I said.

I'm on a AOSP rom (Slimbean). But I do share your experience with heat, both on the phone and the charger itself. But I think it's due to the high currency.

Your charger could just be broken. LG charger's output current is rated at 1.2A which means that the battery should be charged from 0% to 100% in about 1 h 45 min. It could take longer if the charging current gets smaller when the battery is starting to get full.

wrong, "charger" is not current source
for topic: your charger is bad, replace it

I had an issue that CPU was always 760mhz while charging with zen+HYPER governors. RevoltJB+OP kernel 2.53.
Noticed that my raspberry charger(2A) was faster than LG stock charger. Also normal for me too that battery even decreases while using phone at charger.

there is maximum allowed current to charge phone. it is controlled by electronics inside the phone. if you are using charger that has bigger maximum current it is possible that phone battery is faster charged, but as i said, it depends on interior charging circle

Charging Current 101
To clarify the above responses:
The LG charger *should* be more than adequate to charge the handset, as that is what it was designed to do....
If you were to use a different charger, e.g. one from another phone or a shop bought replacement, then the maximum output current of the charger is an important factor: the lower the rating (in mA or A) the slower the charge and therefore the longer it will take. Using the phone whilst charging will also increase the charge time as you are using the battery whilst charging it (like filling the bath with the plug out), more so with apps that load the graphics processor (GPU) such as youtube or games as these are battery intense tasks.
The rate at which the battery charges is ultimately decided by the handset; most modern phones will fast-charge most of the way, then slow charge the last few % to avoid overheating and damaging the battery, so having a charger rated to, say, 2.4A (or 2400mA) does not mean the battery will charge twice as fast as one rated at 1.2A as the phone dictates how much current it needs.
That will either clear up a lot of questions or will mean nothing at all

Same. Charging here is very fast overall.

Was wondering, Does Adaptive Fast Charging Come Pre-Enabled on the Note 4? Or do we have to go to the Battery Settings first to enable it?

When I got mine, it was enabled already.

Oh, if your fast charge your battery once, does it reduce your battery's lifespan in the long run, or does it need to be fast recharged several times for a notable difference?

As a general rule, the faster you charge the battery, the hotter it gets. The hotter it gets, the more quickly it will degrade. I still use my S3 charger to charge the Note 4 overnight.
Does it really make a noticeable difference? From what I've read, probably not. But I don't think there's been much objective testing. Just using fast charging once is highly unlikely to affect it in noticeable ways at all.

If you've charged the battery once using the fast-charging method, is that going to impact the lifespan of the battery? Or does it take multiple fast-charges for the battery to begin to loose its charge?
Nowadays I use the regular 2amp Samsung charger that came with my Wireless Charger.

I edited that in right after I posted, but I guess you beat me to it. As far as I can tell, it's a gradual process. Unless the phone seriously overheated during the one charge, it shouldn't have much effect at all.

Honestly I'm not sure if it diminishes battery.
I have to take it off because I'm using a Zerolemon battery and it doesn't charge all the way up unless the fast charging is off.

The adaptive charging is built in as long as you're using the included charger. It charges at a higher voltage so it's not as damaging as say, a 3 amp charger would be, but it takes many many fast charges to affect the battery's performance. Generally speaking though, the faster you charge the more capacity you lose over time, but the worst thing you can do is charge it &leave it plugged in for hours fully charged. I use an old Bluetooth charger that's 500mah when i charge overnight & the fast charger at work or in the living room.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the LG V20 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.

I use Ampere to see the rate I am getting. First plug in might only be 90 mah. I unplug, replug, it jumps up to 350. A couple more times and I end up at 900-1200. Screen off and let it fast charge.

I recently tried out the HTC Bolt for a couple weeks and it seemed to charge much faster than my V20. Shouldn't it be the other way around since the Bolt uses quick charging 2.0 while the V20 uses Quick charging 3.0?

My H910 charges relatively quickly. Just plugged it into a quickcharge 2.0, not 3.0 car charger and it went from 16% to 50% in ~25 minutes.

I regularly get rates of 1.8A or greater using a CHOETECH or Anker charger. One its above 80%, it drops down, but this is normal.
The Anker is QC3.0 and the CHOETECH are QC2.0

what's with V20?
it uses QC 3.0, but charge slower.
I use original V20 charger, and when charging the status is "quick charging.."
it takes 2 hours from 27% to 100%

looks like something really wrong with your phone. My phone usually takes about 75 mins to charge from 0% to 100%

and btw, my LG G2 can do full charge in 1 hour and 20 mins (80 minutes), and it's not even QC 3.0
I read somewhere in gsmarena, QC 3.0 should charge to 80% in 30 mins

not sure about G2. I've never had one.
QC 3.0 might be able to do it technically, but I've never seen a phone that fast in charging yet. Not even the OP3T which every body is saying quickest in charging.

That grandpa tooks around 2+ hrs to get full charge
But to be fair with the phone, I've never used the original charger of G Flex 2 to charge. I either used my old chargers from previous phones or I plugged it into my laptop to charge it. Let me find the original charger and try it when i get back home

I have absolutely no complaints with the charging speed. Also, I rarely drop below 40%.

My battery takes forever to charge up!
I just bought a VS995 Verizon Unlocked off the net. Was classified as "almost new - open box", hope I did NOT get a unit with problems. Re-charged it now a total of 5 times and on average (plus or minus 3-5 minutes) it takes approx. 3 hours and 18 minutes. for a full charge 0% to 100% . A few thoughts and questions came to mind while reading all your excellent posts:
1.) I believe he must of lost his quick charger because the one he gave me seems like he bought it off the net. Standard USB charger. So probably not using the quick charge function feature of this phone correct?
2.) Can I goto an electronics store and just copy whatever voltage and amps I need to perform a quick charge? Can someone please POST what the voltages and amps needed for a quick charge 3.0 please.
3.) Anyone have a bad battery or have one go bad after using the wrong charging devices? I was thinking of ordering a new battery BUT they are a little pricey. Anyone know some good outlets to buy them at a fair price?
4.) Does rooting the device and putting one of the ROM's on their cell solve anyone's battery problem? If so which ROM do you recommend?
Overall that is my only gripe about the phone. I love the DAC and for all you music lovers out there try Sirius XM on the LG-V20 and make sure to use Hi-Fi made headphones. I bought myself Bowers and Wilkens P7's, sort of pricey but worth it to me. The other thing is Napster as well the songs you download sound awesome with this DAC. For both of these APPS make sure you go into settings and adjust the quality of the downloads and streaming. Otherwise you could be listening to it with poor quality settings from the get go.
Ok well I appreciate any help or advice on my battery situation!

Any charger that says Quick Charge 3.0 would work. I think even QC 2.0 would charge at the same speed, but just less energy efficient.

The difference between qc 2 and 3 is 3 has a variable voltage allowing it to use energy more efficiently.
Excess energy is lost as heat on qc2, the power is reduced in qc3 when the battery starts to get full.
The charge time is the same.
Specs for QC 2 is 5V / 9V/ 12V, specs for QC 3 is
3.2v - 20v dynamic

Question Can you use a different charger brick/block?

Im planning to use a 18W charger to lessen the heat from the phone and to increase the life of the battery from using the 33W brick. Is it okay to use a different charger brick?

yes, I got this phone less than a week ago and charged it two or three times, and didn't use original charger yet, so no worries, it'll work ok

Same here. I also use other charger and did not use 33 w charger yet. It charges fine without issues but a bit slower. It is up to you to decide to use 33 w or lesser w charger.

It won't effect anything except if you want fast charging.
If you can software disable fast charging it doesn't matter which brick you use.

Too bad. Not familiar with that brand at all.
Usually it's getting fast charging to work rather than the inverse.
I think I would rather have your dilemma.

So many users also complaining the same that it isn't charging fast enough
I use "battery charge limit" magisk module to limit charge limit
Or
You can use accubattery app to set alarm at specific battery charge limit

I use zmi charger 18w with pixel rom. Still recognized as fast charging!

Make sure the battery temp is at least 82°F before you start charging. I get best results with a start temperature of 85-95 F.
Keep the temperature under 100F while charging. Use cooling if needed. Fast charging will warm up the phone fast especially in high ambient temperatures... if will need cooling. A fan and/or damp microfiber cloth helps. Keep it of direct sunlight
Keep the screen off when charging as it will completely skew the charge curve.
A quick 2 second look doesn't seem to hurt though. Likewise I use bt and Poweramp to listen to music while charging with no perceivable impact on my Note 10+.
Play with it and see how it behaves...
