Going back to MIUI global from LineageOS - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

I like LOS, clean and fast, but now I want to go back to official Global Rom with no root etc (basically, going back to stock, how you got it first time).
Anyone can point me to the right direction?
Do I just follow the Fastboot method found here: http://en.miui.com/a-234.html ?
Just don't want to brick my phone.
Thank you

I just followed the fastboot method from miui.com and it works just fine.
If for some reason the MiFlash don't recognize your device try installing Mi PC Suite.

Thanks!

I assume you got TWRP installed.
1. Download latest ROM here
2. Put in your phone or /sdcard/download
3. Boot to TWRP
4. Wipe everything EXCEPT /sdcard or something in the internal
5. Install/flash ZIP then choose the ROM in /sdcard/download
6. It is going to take quite a long time due to you're flashing about 1.3GB zip file
7. Reboot
8. You will notice that the TWRP is gone, so bootloader back to stock
9. After phone set-up, try to clean format again from the phone's setting
10. Done
If you want to lock back the phone, use:
fastboot oem lock
Then everything goes back to normal. Hope this helps.

Mi3 is bricked

Hi Guys,
My Mi3 is bricked.I did a repartition some months back and I wanted to install MIUI 7.I used Miflash but it is showing size too large error while flashing. My recovery is replaced with stock recovery.I tried to use ADB to push the file, that is also not working as it is shoing device not found while I am in recovery.I installed Miphonemanager as well for that. But there is no luck.I am out of ideas. Can anyone please help me.
Can anyone let me know which driver I need to choose in driver manager for android in desktop? Currently I tried CMCC Composite ADB driver and Xiaomi Android Interface.
Flash latest TWRP first. What happened during repartition?
You can allways acces the eeprom writer through short circuiting the sim card, there are a lot of tutorials, the only way to brick this phone is breaking its hardware

Install custom recovery through fast boot mode... Then flash the repartition revert zip .. There is one revert zip in miui forum which ends like this "....EIPerroVerde". Only this revert zip works..Then use miflash .. It should work..

Hey Knight (didn't want to call you Dork  )
I have a messed up phone,
2 questions here :
1- Would repartitioning reset ALL the partitions ?
2- When installing a ROM with fastboot, will ALL the partitions be filled with the necessary data ?
(I'm in doubt because of IMEI data)
Btw, can anyone point me to a link with WORKING fastboot ROM downloads ?

Repartitioning will wipe both your system partitions [EDIT: Seems I was wrong?]. If you want to use MIUI 7, you can use either extended partition, or stock partition using the zip from my link.
For fastboot I guess you'll need stock.
No, installing a MIUI fastboot ROM shouldn't touch your IMEI. But yeah everything else can be overwritten, depending on which bat file you use when flashing.
The process I'd recommend right now is to flash TWRP IMG using fastboot(use the 15-second ADB installer and look up a tutorial on how to flash an IMG. Basically just put the IMG into the adb/fastboot installation directory and then open a terminal window and then fastboot flash)
And as for MIUI fastboot ROM, you just gotta find the thread on MIUI forums. Google can help

Thanks ... but ....
I was under the impression that there were many more partitions (about 28).
Check this site:

Basically, I'm looking for an easy way out to make a REAL factory reset from PC.

Well there ARE a LOT of partitions on any device, but the important ones are system, boot, data, cache, modem etc.
That guide seems to manually mess with the partition table, so it gets down and dirty.
The easiest thing would be to do what I said, flash TWRP or CWM r7 by furniel and then the proper stock partition zip. Then use MiFlash or recovery to flash any ROM.
I think I'm back online

OK,
I followed your links and flashed :
First : Repartition to Stock Layout
Then : Repartition to 1.2GB Single System
Strange, after this, I did a normal reboot, it rebooted into my old ROM.
Shouldn't that have been erased after partitioning ?
Anyway,
Then I flashed ; update-XenonHD-08-08-15-signed-.zip
WAIT WAIT .....
as I'm typing, I'm flashing update-XenonHD-09-05-15-signed-cancro.zip,
first ROM in a few weeks that seems to be installing.
Let me check is it really installed .... YEP .... progress
Flashing : pa_gapps-modular-pico-5.1-20150418-signed
Everything seems to be going smooth
OK, for the time being .... all good.
Thanks a lot :good:
If your device cannot boot, flash it thru fastboot mode. See the full detailed tutorial on en.miui.com
Well you can directly flash with miflash even with the extended partition. Just edit the fastboot script (.bat extension with windows) and search for line
fastboot flash system+system1
And then delete system1
Fastboot flash system
And use those script for flashing via miflash

Flash a fastboot ROM from here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...irmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647/post79726515
Follow this guide here to flash it.
http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
VERY IMPORTANT.
In step 5 of the guide, before clicking install, you need to change flash option at the bottom of the Flash Tool. It's default is 'Clean all and lock'. Make sure you change this and select 'Clean all'.
The default option locks the bootloader after flashing, so make sure to change it.
After restoring the phone start again by following this guide to install TWRP and an eu ROM

That's good. I'll be honest now and admit that restoring the phone was probably not necessary. However, you sounded like you were a little unsure of things, so thought it might be useful for you to know how to restore the phone when things go really wrong. When all you can do is boot into fastboot, you now know how to recover the phone, as long as the bootloader is unlocked.
Because you were still able to boot into TWRP, you could have just gone in to Wipe, then Advanced Wipe, selected Dalvik cache, Cache, Data and System and wiped them all, then gone back to the main TWRP screen and installed an eu ROM again. That probably would have worked fine.

Hi Robbo,
I had the exact same problem as Bagus.
I downloaded the MiFlash tool, and the stable global fastboot ROM from the link you provided. Phone is in fastboot and can be detected by the flash tool. When I select the folder for the extracted ROM files and then click "Flash" (as in step 5 of the Xiaomi Guide) is says it can't find the flash_all.bat? How can I fix this pls! Or am I using a the wrong ROM from that list on XDA forum?

You need to fully extract the ROM. Depending on the zip software you will need to extract twice. Open the tgz file and extract the contents. If you only get a single file you need to open this file in your zip software and extract it again. If the file doesn't have a file extension, rename it and add .tar on the end.
You should end up with a folder, which has some .bat files and a second folder. Point the Mi Flash Tool to this extracted top level folder.

K20 Pro Global keeps booting to TWRP

Hey guys
I've been playing around with my K20 Pro, but I just came across a problem. This is what happened:
- I flashed Havoc 2.8 as my first ROM, all went pretty swell.
- After having problems with the camera app and FP unlock, I decided to flash LineageOS 17, which required me to install a different firmware, and so I did, all went smoothly again
- LOS 17 is still a bit premature for my taste, so I decided to try going back to stock. I downloaded the stock firmware for Android 9.0 and the stock MIUI 10 ROM for the K20 Pro Global which is the one I have, not a Mi 9T Pro
- I flashed both things, phone now keeps booting into recovery, no matter how many times I flashed the stock fw and ROM and wiped the phone
So now, what do I do? Did I mess up somewhere? If so, enlighten me so I can learn.
Is this solvable? I don't want to have a bricked phone like this after 1 month of use xD
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: This has already been solved ^^
The issue is you want to rollback from Android 10 -> 9.
I'm also having this issue.

Have you tried to flash .tgz stock image though miflash tool?
I had something similar yesterday, I'm assuming you can still get into fastboot, so you need to use MiFlash to flash MiUi, be careful not to select 'clean and lock' as this will lock your bootloader and probably brick the device if it's going to a different ROM from stock.
You need to get MiUi in a tar format and flash that in MiFlash.

Exactly what @monstermuffin20 said.
Download fastboot rom (.tgz file), could be global rom, extract it to a folder. Open miflash tool, locate path. Select "clean all" on bottom and right side options. DO NOT SELECT "clean all and lock" as it will brick your device.

I'm sure flashing the full ROM is enough, just make sure you UNCHECK the CLEAN ALL AND LOCK option. So go into fastboot mode and extract the tgz file, you may have to extract twice.

As long as it shows: "unlocked" when you turn it on, it definitely not bricked.
1) Download this rom: http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.3.3.0....FKINXM_20190711.0000.00_9.0_in_a1c0a15dec.tgz
2) Extrat, select path on miflash tool
3) Put your device in fastboot mode
3) MAKE SURE YOU SELECTED "CLEAN ALL" ONLY
4) MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE that "CLEAN ALL" is marked
5) Click "FLASH"
6) It will end in around 600 seconds, with an error (checkpoint error), don't worry, it's normal...
As I see you have chinese k20 pro and don't really want to use miui (as you've been flashing aosp roms), but start to realise that you will have to deal with it for a while, i would recomend to flash chinese rom, just in case, and then xiaomi.eu rom... it's the better way to live with miui.

Ah, ans just check file after download, that thing gets errors frequently...

How did I not notice that lul. I'm sorry xD
I will try with that one now.
EDIT: MiFlash gave an error: Missmatching image and device
EDIT2: After a few attempts, I think it's flashing properly now
EDIT3: Nope, data transfer failure

Those are both correct.
However, I've managed to flash OrangeFox recovery and install a MIUI ROM (miui_RAPHAELGlobal_V10.3.2.0.PFKMIXM_55396ac730_9.0), but on the setup Find Device keeps crashing and the screen keeps turning on and off. I'm going to try to flash a different one, idk.

I bought a Bootloader Unclocked 9T Pro. Am I free to flash custom recoveries/roms?

I bought this device for custom ROM use only (LineageOS, Evolution X, Pixel Experience etc). Don't ever intend on using stock MIUI.
I'm not sure if the Mi account used to unlock the bootloader of this phone is still attached to it. But as long as I don't try to go back to stock MIUI, it won't be an issue right? I'm free to flash TWRP and LineageOS without running into a "Login to Mi Account to continue" prompt right?

Correct. You will only have problems if you flash MIUI with the Mi Flash Tool and accidentally lock the bootloader.
However, if you stuff up the phone somehow while flashing something, fastboot flashing MIUI could be your only way to recover the phone, so there is a slight risk still. If you ever get in this situation you just need to the care that you don't lock the phone.

Thanks, much appreciated! After some research about flashing MIUI using MiFlash, it looks like there is a button in the bottom right corner of MiFlash that says "clean all and lock". When you advise to "not lock the phone", you're referring to making sure that button is not ticked, right?

Yes, though you can also delete the flash all and lock batch file from ROM folder before flashing, that way nothing happens if you forget to change it I the flash tool.

Thank you so much! Okay, so here's my process to ensure this phone is wiped clean before I start using it:
1. Use MiFlash to reinstall/flash MIUI, making sure the "clean all" button is selected instead of the "clean all and lock" button (I also deleted the clean & lock batch file just in case).
2. Boot phone into fastboot, then use ADB to flash TWRP.
3. In TWRP, Wipe>Format Data>yes to confirm.
4. Flash ROM. Reboot into ROM. Done!
This will ensure a completely clean wipe of all partitions prior to installing a custom recovery and rom, all without running into any "Mi Account Login" issues, correct?

Make sure you install the same version as the phone, so it will be either global or European.
Let the phone boot into MIUI once to finalise the install before flashing anything else - you don't need to go through the initial setup

You'll flash TWRP with the fastboot command not adb
After installing you'll need to boot the phone immediately into TWRP - if the phone boots into system, then stock recovery will get restored.

After formatting data TWRP will probably have a problem accessing the data partition. Go to the reboot menu and select reboot to recovery to reload TWRP.
Also wipe Cache (which should also wipe Dalvik. I actually just do the factory reset as it's easier in the GUI) - either before or after flashing the custom ROM

Though you may also want GApps (if the ROM doesn't have any google stuff) and Magisk

How To Guide [TWRP] MI 11 (Pro/Ultra) (mars/star)

[TWRP] MI 11 (Pro/Ultra) (mars/star)
WARNING : I do not know who made this TWRP and I am NOT taking credit for it. It was posted on eu site and I'm just sharing since there was no thread for twrp here on xda.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Before starting the process, the bootloader must be unlocked.
2. Install Xiaomi USB drivers.
3. Enable Usb debugging from Settings - Additional settings - developer options.
4. Download TWRP for Mi 11 (Pro/Ultra) , and put it in your fastboot folder.
5. Put your phone into fastboot mode.
6. Rename downloaded file to "twrp.img".
7. Do the following command. It will automatically boot into TWRP.
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
8. If you get a screen asking for a pin, press 2nd option
and change language to English then enter phone pin.
9. Change language to English (press the 6th option).
10. Go to "Advanced" and select "Onekey inject TWRP".
11. Swipe to inject the TWRP. It might take a few minutes, so don't worry.
Note
1) Don't change the boot slot, currently (Slot A) for most or your device will not boot at all.
2) For user experiencing decrypt issue, you can try one of the methods below to enable decryption:
a. Remove all your security eg. fingerprint, face unlock, pattern and leave ONLY pin. Reboot to twrp and try again.
b. Reflash twrp.
c. LAST RESORT! Format data and factory reset your device then reflash twrp.
3. For user experiencing decrypt issue but just want to flash latest build:
a. Boot to twrp > mount > mount usb storage then transfer your rom.zip to data/media/0
b. Now go to install and look for rom.zip under data/media/0. Profit!
4. The decrypt issue was a bug on the Chinese twrp, no update since may so don't ask for an ETA.
CHANGELOGS
07/18/21
1) Additional instruction from scratch.
2) Additional note for people having decrypt issue.

Your device is not connected, hence the empty list after adb devices.
Did you enable USB debugging in Developer options?

The language on twrp still opens on Chinese and it needs changed to English each time but apart from that it seems to work fine!

The recovery is fully functional as far as I can tell...

You click on everything ?
Hi,
after a long day of learning the hard way (got stuck in Fastboot Loop) I am now on stable EU 12.5.7 (MI11 Ultra, EU phone). So far so good, but I was wondering, how can I make TWRP stuck to the phone, meaning, when I push the power button to have an option like: Boot into TWRP. Is that possible or is there a "click this button with this... trick"?
ATM, I can only get TWRP to work, when I enable it via PC, which is not good.
I am asking, because I have an old Oneplus 6, which has this option. TWRP is installed and I can boot directly to it, if I want to.
Can you please help me out? Is there a trick or am I doing something wrong?
Greetings from Germany
Placebo
I believe you are on custom EU rom right? Just reboot into recovery, custom eu rom injects twrp as standard recovery
Hi, yes I am and I did that also. But still can't boot into TWRP from within the phone. Is there a trick after the injection?
