Straight to the point...
Ever since I used custom rom on MI 5 32gb, the sound volume of video recording is extremely low. The only sound I could hear is from the sound source located literary 1 cm near the phone, even that would sound very low. I've tried all kinds of custom ROMs, stock camera apps, Google camera, open camera with HAL2 and HAL3, snapdragon camera, all resulting in the same problem. I also tried numerous firmware version and nothing fixes it. I don't think it is hardware problem because I can do audio recording just fine, loud and clear. The problem only persist when video recording...
Am I the only one with this problem? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same problem, so I returned to xiaomi.eu rom
Any solution suggestion?

I'm having an issue with my Nexus One, it doesn't seem to record audio when recording video through the Camera app, all I can hear is a little mechanical noise. The weird thing is, the camera records audio fine when I install another camera app such as UCam Ultra Camera... meaning it must be a software problem right? However, this problem started last week on my N1 with stock ROM (never rooted), and since I started having the problem I thought I would root and flash with CM7.2 but that didn't solve anything.
I hear the phone has 2 mics, one by the charging port and one on the back by the camera. The one on the back by the camera works fine when I use speaker phone or play music, and the one by the charging port works fine because I can make and hear calls. So the microphones seem to be fine to me, but the camera won't record audio!
Anyone have any ideas? Could UCam be using a different mic than the camera app leaving it still a hardware problem? I'm open to DIY, I would like to replace the mic on the back actually because I feel thats the problem, but I can't find one and don't know how to replace it, if anyone has any resources it would be appreciated.
I've searched around, there are many people with this problem, but no answers. Here are three threads that attempted to find solutions, I hope this will be more successful.

I have this problem too, but I have a Samsung Galaxy S3. I flashed a few roms, and somewhere along the line, my camera app has no audio and all I hear is some constant white noise in the background. Exactly as you describe. Other apps' audio and mics work fine. I can't find a solution.
Same issue here with the edition of the mic not working when in speaker phone mode.
I was rooted 4.1.2 tried unrooting relocking and flashing stock but no joy. I think this is a hardware issue
i have very bad audio when camera record.
on 2.3.6 audio on record video no problem.
on 4.1.2 very very bed
sorry for my bad english
Define bad audio?
I myself just upgraded to JB and have no problems with audio in video recording .
Are you using any custom kernels? ROMs?
I tried several kernels and all is isto.se occurs some noise and quiet
Hi,
I am sorry but I really don't understand you.
Whats the problem with the audio? Define "bad audio".
too quiet and listen to the cracking or noise
I am guessing you are talking about the speaker.
1) How about the phones speaker on the front (the one you use when you talk normally on the phone), is this also having trouble?
2) Did you try to use any scripts to boost audio (there are several kernels allowing this)?
3) Is it just on recorded video, or any audio you try to play (like a mp3 file)?
4) Do you have the i9070 or i9070P?
5) If the problem occurs only when recording video, more likely the problem is with your microphone. Do you also have problems when on phone calls?
6) which kernel and ROM are you currently using?
just on recorded video
i have i9070 stock rom,a try coCore ThunderZap,siri kernels.
with 2.3.6 rom on recorded video audio was perfect.
Have you tried doing just a voice recording and see what the results are?
I tried only audio, the result is the same, too quiet and listen to the cracking or noise

Do factory reset, if that do not help reinstall firmware again and see if it gets better. Or maybe it is hardware problem that happend somehow just when you changed system.

Hi!
Well, since I've flashed CM (had Stock, MIUI and iHackers before), I'm having problems with the sound recorded by the microphone(s). It sounds like there is a very agressive high-pass, along with a noise gate f*cking up the sound. I think it could be related to a miss-configuration noise-canceling mics placed like all around the device.
I checked earlier recorings with the iHackers ROM, they're all crystal clear. I also tried different recording apps and video cameras, manually adjusted the digital gain, but everytime I get unusable recordings, they're quiet, muffled and just overall sh*tty.
Well, I hope I'm not the only one experiencing this, and I really hope someone could help me.
Bye

Yeah, exactly. I didn't record any concerts with it, but filmed at a local music store as we tested out some guitar amps (pretty loud if you know ). Audio was crystal clear, no distoring, no muffeling, just as I talk from the back of the phone it sounds a little weird.
Hello everyone
I have one problem with every custom rom I tried(PA,PAC,CM,SlimKat etc.) and it is the microphone volume. It is very low and not stereo. For camera, only the back microphone works and when I take a video of my TV I can barely hear it.On stock it is normal. Can you help me with this?
Thanks.

no you are not the only one
this problem appears on every aosp based rom...and i did not find a good fix for that until now...
Try this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/general/cm11-sound-fix-ultimate-t2861772
if you have installed this fix, you have perfect microphone level etc. and really clear and loud voice recordings.
But this fix causes bad call quality, the person you call to, will hear his own voice like echo.
so this fix, fixes all microphone bugs, but causes also bad sound quality while calling.
i decided to use stock sony because i think calling is important but also whatsapp voice memos for me
I already found that fix.But anyways, thank you!
Hi guys,
so as a musician recording stuff with my phone is quite important because, just like with cameras, the best recording device is the one you have with you when inspiration strikes.
Recording audio was always amazing with the P9. Very good and clear recordings. But since a recent update (i think it was b390 or b394) it distorts way too easily when the source has a certain volume. Making it impossible to record a band practice jam or something like that. And since I record stuff regularly this is definitely something new. So either my microphone is broken or the software has changed.
-->Normally the auto-gain is very good and automatically adjusts the input levels down, so that's what seems to be broken in my case. And that would mean it's just a software issue. Before I start flashing old ROMs I was wondering if you guys could do a little recording test with a loud stereo or something and report your findings (using the stock recording app or stock camera app, video recording with sound).
I'm running a P9 with:
-Bluewei 5.7 b397 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/bluewei-test-crossflash-to-l09-c432-t3608270)
but the issue was also present in the ROM i used before:
-moonlight 5.0 b394 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/p9-moonlight-rom-v1-0-b378-stock-t3567223)
So if you could tell me the software version you're using and how easily it distorts that would be greatly appreciated :good:
cheers
Tested B390 and the problem persisted. So at this point I'm guessing it's either the custom ROMs that cause the issue (I don't have the time to test full stock atm) or my microphone is just broken.
Would be really great if anyone with anything B390 or higher could do a little test...
So just flashed the newest version of:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/p9-moonlight-rom-v1-0-b378-stock-t3567223
And the problem vanished. I guess it was a software issue after all.
