Kind of confused on the benefit of rooting. What will I get out of it? Will the root be good for ever or can Google do some thing to break root or brick it?
Are there any other mods out there besides rooting?

Rooting allows you to be able to stream a lot more content to your chromecast, that alone is worth while to root!

You can run non-Google-sanctioned apps, which give you more capabilities.
Good forever? No guarantee, but as long as you load PwnedCast as the first thing you do, your root will be preserved, as PwnedCast will only push you pre-rooted updates. However, at some point in time Google could release a new update that is not rootable for some reason, I suppose.
Regarding mods, all current mods require root.

okay cool. the one i got is unrootable from the factory and just curious whether i should go through the hastle of returning it and finding a good one.
do you need a rooted android phone also to make everything work?
I had a question as well, what specific apps are you guys taking advantage of with a rooted chromecast? Any apps to play local media?

Depends on what you plan to do with Chromecast, and how patient you are.

No. Not unless the application that casts to Chromecast requires root, which currently isn't the case for anything I know of (nothing requires that low-level access to the client side).

Thank you very much, bhiga!
Are there now any Chromecasts which can not be rooted? How do I check if my Chromecast can be rooted?

A stock Chromecast won't run an application that isn't whitelisted.
Oversimplified, it's like an application directory lookup. If the application isn't in the Google application directory, it doesn't get run.
The KyoCast mod gets around this by allowing additional whitelisting beyond the official Google whitelist.

okay ended up returning and getting two rootable ones. i just rooted and installed pwned.
does it automatically disable google OTA updates or is that another file i have to install.
also will it automatically push the newer pwned updates?
is it safe to put it online?
It gets updates from its own server, preserving root.
Yes it is safe to put online.
Is there any way to verify that the Google ota updates are disabled?
Can I install allcast and fling on it now or do I need the other rom?
Wait is kyocast a rom or an add on?

It's not an option, it's built into the PwnedCast firmware, otherwise everyone running PwnedCast would lose root.
Allcast and Fling will work with PwnedCast v1.1 onward, as long as you have the correct Allcast and Fling versions.
Kyocast was an add-on, it is now built into the PwnedCast v1.1 firmware.
are these correct?

Yes, those should be good. Most applications will not be version-specific (aside from some minimum required version) with respect to Chromecast. Allcast and flings are exceptions.
how do i install allcast and fling?
edit: figured them out.
allcast is installed on your phone as an app
fling ran on your computer. (needs JRE)
what file's does fling work with. whatever i try i just get a black screen but i have audio
Hi,
I just received my new phone, and I realised that I am still on oxygenOs 3.5.4. I checked the system updates, and it says that there aren't any updates available, but I see that nougat was released in January.
Is the Nougat update something that I need to trigger manually? Is there any reason to not update to Nougat? I guess all the kinks are pretty much ironed out by now.
Cheers!

You should have received it by now. You can manually download the ROM and either sideload it or place it in its folder.

You could try installing a free VPN app, changing the region to Canada or Germany and checking again. This is how I've done it.

I am facing the same issue. I got my 3T yesterday and it says no update available. I have not rooted my phone and wont root it unless absolutely necessary. Where can I download the official Nougat ROM from? And what is the procedure to sideload it?

You can get the update, and instruction on how to install from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/rom-oxygenos-3-5-4-mm-ota-update-t3519074
Sideload instructions also here from OnePlus: http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3t/oneplus_3t_oxygenos_4.0.3/
Although the download right from OP only lists 4.0.3, and then Open Beta 3 and 4. So I don't know if this just not updated, as OTAs for 4.1.0 and 4.1.1 have already gone out:

Hello, my Galaxy note 8 N950F with android 8 insistently asks me to install version 9 but I understood that my phone registration application will not work anymore and for my work I really got used to use for years.
Is it better to stay in 8 or is it possible to unlock this function in version 9 ?
If I have to stay in 8 how to prevent the update ? He asks me to install it several times a day and it will end up installing it all alone, and at the same time I have the impression that the battery is emptying much faster since there is this update waiting...
Is it possible to root version 9 knowing that I am in France on the Orange network and that I speak bad English (google translation) and I need clear explanation ! I understood that rooter version 9 would allow me to use the recording ...
Thank you
You don't need root .if you keep delaying the update promt up to 9 times then it will auto install.what I did was buy bk package disabler and disabled all updates that stopped my phone keep on promoting me to update to that ****ty one ui rubbish
exactly so
thanks, i found packagedisabler that looks the same and gives me a big list of application to uninstall. What is the name of the application that wants to force me to update android?

Here is a screen short of what I disabled to stop the b.s. pie update promt
Thank you !
I found the equivalent in French and this damn notification has disappeared ...
Do you know where is the file of the update, because there must be some GB blocked because of it.
I would update to Pie especially if you use any mobile banking apps on your device. As it will have all the latest security patches
if you use sbrowser it lost the on screen brightness and volume controls plus video scrubbing (ff & rew) is gone now it stops and skips

I'm receiving pop-up notifications at least once a day from Samsung prompting me to update to Android 12 OneUI 4.0 which can't be disable in the Notification Panel. I have a few questions for user's who've installed the update.
1 Did the update lock your bootloader?
2 Did a Factory Reset enable you to restore to a stable version of Android 11 OneUI 3.1?
3 Did the update cause any number of new bugs?
4 Is there a workaround to disable the Update Notifications?
5 Is anyone's device bug free after updating?
6 After updating have you received any
Update Notifications to install OneUI 4.1?
Needless to say I'm very skeptical of the update since it's causing a wide variety of issues on different devices. Will appreciate any input you may have!
1. If you're rooted, it is safe to assume that your bootloader will be locked as this is an official ROM, it comes with updated bootloader.
2. I believe this is dependent if the current SW version is the same. Otherwise, if it's lower, you won't be able to.
3. Im on May Update G9980. No major bugs as per day to day usage.
4. Not sure.
5. I personally haven't had any bugs.
6. Yes
