Hey guys,
First of all thank you for your hard work and for keeping my device relevant and alive.
I am currently running CM13 Snapshot from December 2016. It works smooth, no critical or significant issues at all. What I am currently trying to do is to Update my system apps (i.e. my Phone dialer, Gallery, Clock, Messages apps). I can't seem to get a grip of how to do so. What I tried doing is:
1. Downloading the latest update of the apps from apkmirror
2. Deleting the old system apps using ES File Explorer (Root explorer being enabled)
3. Copying the downloaded apks to system/app/ folder.
4. Rebooting my device.
I did set the new apps as default apps for Messaging and Calling. They do have all the permissions; however, these fail to work.
My updated phone app does not handle calls. Basically, when I get an incoming call, my phone reboots. It does have all the permissions it requires and it is also set as the default app for calling.
When it comes to SMS's, the updated messaging app does not display notifications (i.e. no sound, no LED, no vibration), so periodically I have to get my phone out of the Screen Timeout and unlock it to get the notification of a new message received. It does have "notifications" enabled in the settings and it also has all the permissions it requires.
Would you be so kind to give me a heads up of how can one update system apps without them crashing and failing to do their job?
Thank you!

Dear All,
Xposed and GravityBox module are working fine, but unfortunatly, I see one stange behavior:
When rebooting, all icons I've created from the Apps list towards the main menu pages are not saved and disapears after every reboot. I need then to again make the application links from the Apps list to the main phone menus... until next reboot.
This is not the case with default (ROM) applications (like emails, SMS, etc) which remains after the reboot.
Only the new links/icons I created are gone after reboot.
How could I fix this?
I do have a phone with Android 4.2.2, Kernel 3.4.5 ([email protected] #1 Tue Jan 13 16.55:43 CSST 2015 / Build number ALPS.JB3.MP.V1
I'm using Xposed 2.6.1 (libraries used StickyListHeaders & libsuperuser) and last stable version of GravityBox[JB] 3.5.6
Thanks in advance,
Jean-Frederic
Anyone ?
Anyone, any idea?
Thanks,
Jean-Frederic
[SOLVED]
Ok, I found the issue on the web.
Seems to be a geeric Android issue.
The only ways seems to be to solve this is to move applications from SD Card to internal memory OR install another Launcher like NOVA Launcher or GO Launcher from Google Play Store.
Root cause seems that the default launcher is too fast compare to SD Card. Therefore the SD Card is not mounted when the launcher is biulding the Home screen... then do not fnid the icons on the card (not yet mounted)
Hope this help,
Jean-Frederic
Hello, I remember that there was an option to turn on/off cell broadcasts through messaging app > settings > cell bradcasts; settings app > more > cell broadcasts. But the option is nowhere to be found now.
I tried to find the apk file on this thread, the cell broadcasts setting appeared under settings app > more, but it force closes when entering it, maybe because that app is not supposed to run on lollipop as that tread was written back in 2013 Jan.
Checking older firmwares for system app gave no success aswell.
I wonder if anyone has this apk file in your stock system under /system/app and could share it (no matter what phone you have or current version running, if something would go wrong I have a backed up my system), so I could receive emergency alerts again.
I am currently running stock 5.1.1 firmware Build: 14.6.A.1.236 on Z1
Thanks in advance.
Hi All,
Need help with resolving the issue on my rooted phone not allowing any settings to be persisted.
I rooted my Moto X 2013 XT1053 using the below guide: (still on stock rom)

Issues:
App settings are lost after reboot/restart
Cant save settings for most apps (whatsapp, ES Explorer, Uber, CF.Lumin etc..)
Cant recieve or send attachments in whatsapp
Behaviour observed: - Most issues are observed on apps that are updated or are not system apps.
ES File Explorer File Manager - I have the old free version of it installed and it can store its settings without any problem. But if I install the latest version, it cant save any settings and cannot do any write operations. CF.lumin - save the settings but looses them when ever I restart/reboot my phone. WhatsApp - downloads backup, and allows regular chats, but cannot download or upload any attachments. And looses all configuration when phone is restarted. have to start form scratch and reconfigure my account each time.
I have searched for a while now to resolve this issue, installed FolderMount, Mount /System RO/RW, edited the platform.xml file... but none resolved the issue.
Can some one please help me with a working solution that I might have missed.
Thanks,
aquaboyin
This update (1.0.102) integrates the previous build's fixes along with a few more fixes and features added.
To save all your data and apps from your previous version, please follow these steps:
Before you download Remix OS Player version: 1.0.102, find your RemixOSPlayer folder
Go to: 'RemixOSPlayer > remixemu > avd > Remix_OS.avd'
Make a copy of the file named 'userdata-qemu' and save somewhere you can find (ie. desktop)
After downloading this update (http://www.jide.com/remixos-player#download) paste the 'userdata-qemu' file into the 'Remix_OS.avd' folder before your first boot
Run Remix OS Player and you should have kept your apps and data from before

This version works much better. It's also nice that the Remix Central apps are not prompted for installation as part of the player install process. One thing that is confusing is the presence of the Google Play Activator app when clicking the "start" button. If the Google Play activate option is selected during the install of the player then the activator app should not be needed any longer and might cause confusion. For example, I activated Google Play during the install, updated the pre-installed apps and added one additional new app. I then notices the activator app in the start menu. Not sure if I need to run it or not I decided to. It ran and then told me to restart the player. I did and the app I had installed was still installed but did not show up in the Google Play app as still being installed. Seems like what I did somehow created an inconsistency in the system. I uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it and everything seemed ok but its hard to be sure. Perhaps the activator app should be deleted if the user chooses to activate Google Play as part of the player install process?
Please enable touchscreen support for Tablets, All-in-one, & Standalone Touchscreen Monitors. And perhaps a Included OTA updater will be better. Thanks!

samsung note 8 system applications can not be updated to the new version from the apk file (the original manufacturer file from apkmirror) the system shows the application not installed without any information about the error. It does not install any updates from Samsung Apps. My applications - empty, does not detect anything. Same Google Play. For example, the camera version 7.62.2 in the phone, and the new one is 8.50, you can not update it, so do the other system.

He meant, some of the Samsung system apps doesn't show updates available in the Galaxy Apps store or Play Store. There are updates to certain apps, like the camera and dialer on APK Mirror, but when you download them and try to install them, it gives an error and says the app wasn't installed. That is his issue, that he can't update some of his apps.

Some of the apps you're trying to update, like the camera, can't be updated by side-loading or downloading an APK, because it's a system app. You can't update system apps. In the case of the camera, I wouldn't want to update that anyway, because even though it's a higher version, it's not necessarily meant for the Galaxy Note 8, because the "newer" versions remove the ability to use the optical 2x zoom, which I'm sure isn't supposed to happen. I think those are updated camera APKs for different models, maybe like the A- or J-series.
What you could do, if you are rooted, is to just replace the system APKs with the updated ones you downloaded, but I wouldn't recommend that, because sometimes the updates to system apps might also depend on updates to other library files which you don't get with the APK or can't download and then might cause some problems and issues.
As far as your question about Bixy and News Republic: I have no idea. I don't use Bixby, so I don't even know how it works.

For the 2nd question, have you tried opening Bixby, go to Settings, then go to Cards, then ensure news republic is toggled on (assuming it's installed on your phone in the first place)?

Hmm if you have the app installed and it doesnt show up there in Bixby, then maybe that app is not compatible with Bixby yet?
