Unlocking LTE bands - Honor 5C Questions & Answers

Hi, I've found that the Kirin 650 in the Honor 5c supports more bands than are usually enabled so does anyone know how to unlock/enable the unavailable bands? Is there a hardware issue with using more?
Thanks

Update:
Honor customer support wouldn't give me a definite reason but they said
'There are differences between devices in terms of both hardware and software, according to region, which is why Huawei doesn't support international warranty. The devices are intended for specific regions, and have therefore been built in accordance to the operators' and end users' needs.'
I guess that this means there is some component missing between the SOC and aerial but I don't know enough about how phones work.

There's a part called the baseband processor or modem in the SOC which does most of the signal processing. While the baseband processor on all variants of the Honor 5c is the same, the firmware is different and the NVRAM values in the OS are also different. It should theoretically be possible to flash a different firmware to the baseband processor and/or change the NVRAM values to support more bands. The difficulty is with finding an appropriate firmware and understanding the firmware and NVRAM.
Does anyone know anything about this?

Ok, it seems like all the hardware supports it but the firmware in the baseband processor is lacking, so it just needs a different baseband. Does anyone know where to get one and how to flash it?

It's not that simple. Only Honor can help you with that, which I think is they won't even give attention to.

No reply?
I assume this means that it is not possible to flash different radio firmware to change the operating frequencies on weither 3g or 4g bands?
Can someone please give me an opinion?
maybe possible?
should be possible?
its be done on other HTCs?
or im out of luck it will never happen because....?

This is a VERY good question, one to which I can't seem to find an answer either on these forums.
For month now I've been hoping that the great minds of the XDA pantheon would have found a way for us to flash, say, an EU radio firmware on a HTC One Developer Edition to enable the EU frequency bands (perhaps while dropping the US bands, I couldn't care less), but I can't seem to find anyone who's ever attempted it with any success.
I'm just pining for that Dev Ed in all it's glory with EU freq bands...
Some say it's hardware, but I just can't seem to believe that HTC would go through all the trouble of creating different hardware for each worldly region. It's far simpler to just build the same device for all and then start locking bands.
What I *did* find was that the Qualcomm chipset should allow for all required freqs, it's just not "enabled".
But perhaps I should stop dreaming ?
Kind regards,
Lander.

Difference in China version vs international version?

Where I live there's both for sale. Is there a difference when it comes to custom Roms? Are they both compatible with the same ROMS and kernels

The difference is in the lte bands. Better look, what bands you need in your country.
In term of custom roms, both are same.

Yes, i have a China variant of the 3T, came with Hydrogen OS but i flashed Oxygen OS over it, dont need any alterations in the recovery or any other special permissions, just follow this instructions:
http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3t/oneplus_3t_oxygenos_3.5.4/
What's the easiest way to check the band on a phone? I think I've got a Chinese phone instead of EMEA

As a Chinese, I can clearly inform you that there is no difference between the China version and the international version.
You can flash HydrogenOS or OxygenOS anytime。

Is it possible to reflash to get north Americans bands?
I have two op3, one I ordered directly from op+ the other from Amazon.. I'm in Canada. The first place one works fine, the other doesn't with working Sim.. I noticed the one that doesn't work has Chinese writing after the English on the back label..
Long story short, is it possible to change the software of flash the Chinese one so I get it to work?

Hardware is different between US, EU and China, you can however run HydrogenOS and OxygenOS on all variants but it won't change the modem channel support as it's hardware restricted.

Does this mean the guides to unlocking additional bands here on xda won't work? I was reading up on these. I believe It's UMTS BAND 4 I'm missing. Is there any way I can run a command or query the device somehow to compare the difference between my working op3 and the defunct one?

do you mean if I install t mobile firmware via odin, that will make it work without any problems?
I think the bootloader is different for a non-US model, even if it is Qualcomm and thus ODIN will fail to flash the firmware for a different model. You may be out of luck on this one I feel, but maybe someone else has a way to get around this without root.

This.
However i dont know if prince comesy odin would flash this or not.
Im leaning towards it would allow the flash but i dont know if the firmwares are cross compatible different device models so likely not.
Try at your own risk.
sent from my Exynos S9 plus, Pixel 2 XL or Note FE
I had done this on my international G965F S9+ and patched ODIN would let me flash it successfully, but the phone won't boot due to some "mismatch" error because of the some security checks Samsung put into Bootloader so you can only run matching CSC, Modem, AP files.
SMH...how much effort they put to restrict users from rooting and customizing their phone...so much for openness they had promised once when they hired the Cyanogen guy....

SM-G973W to G973U

Hello everyone,
I have a canadian S10 SM-G973W from Rogers and I would like to know if its possible to flash a US firmware to change it to G973U. I want to do this to get the android 10 beta since it seem canada won't get it at all.
I've already looked on xda but I can't find any information about this. I've found some thread elsewhere about 973U user flashing canadian firmware and it worked but I don't want to brick my device. Thanks!
you can and I have but it would not give me the option to join the beta, even though my account is US, maybe the sim was the problem, I should have removed it and tried. I think the beta program is closed now too as well. I did read that someone sim locked their phone with one of the US firmwares. Be careful if you try, I used to U1 vs U firmware but either should work.
If you try and it you can join the beta I will flash again as well

Yes it's possible. I did it with my BELL S10. Just use modified ODIN (3.13.3).
Since you were able to switch it from. The 973w to 973u, were u able to root it then?? Cause I wanna get my 973w rooted soon, but havent found a way yet and how did your s10 work after switching it from 973w - 973u??

You still won't be able to root it. These models have Snapdragon processors & seem to be locked down pretty tight. Only the phones with Exynos processors can be rooted at this time.

Hopefully In the future the phone can be rooted with bootloader unlocked although i doubt it , but try to keep the hope
Actually, the Chinese varient with the Snapdragon processor can be rooted (as I had been wrong in mentioning that *any* Snapdragon processor phone could not be rooted). although, I doubt it will ever happen in the near future with any US Snapdragon model.

The last U.S. snapdragon model to be rooted was the S9. The U.S. S10 and up have too much security and will probably never be rooted.

Can you flash SM-A716U (T-Mobile US) firmware on the SM-A715F/DS via Odin?

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to flash the T-Mobile US SM-A716U firmware on the SM-A715F/DS device. Will Odin allow it? Will the device function? As far as I can tell, the chipset is the same, but I wonder how it would affect functions like Dual SIM. (The T-Mobile firmware also has support for 5G, which may not be supported on the SM-A715F/DS.)
Does anyone know what could happen, or if it works? Are there any negative consequences, and could someone explain if the bootloader needs to be unlocked or anything? Ideally, I'd like to get that SM-A716U firmware loaded in the SM-A715, but want to keep everything as stock as possible. I'm also not terribly familiar with Odin., so I'm not sure if the software allows flashing a firmware intended for a different device variant.
Thanks in advance!
no, it won't work. A715F kernel doesn't have property for A716
