The super amoled screen is excellent in this domain.
It is an AMOLED display. What do you expect? Black is pure no light. The screen is switched off a the dark areas. It is excellent for inverted text reading (grey text on a black screen) with very low power consumtion..
I cant really distinguish the bezels and dark background of soft nav keys.wow
i use sustratum with swift black theme....
it is PERFECT.... awesome too see each app with black theme.
i comparedside by side the black of other phones of my friends and everyone now noticed HOW MUCH COOL is to have an amoled display eheheheh ( my first amoled phone and i am on love , i won't turn back to ips)

Yeah will try when in 3 days my bootloader is unlocked.my white colour is currently yellowish at normal settings in stock s244
The screen is unbelievable for the price point . But the pure Red gets blown away though , eg., see the youtube app logo
I set my green value to 96, now it's perfect!!
Pitch black for sustratum is the best.U save a of energy as well and it looks awesome.

Since I can't see an SGNote in a store yet, curious if the SAMOLED's less than natural colors ever bothers you, they seem to bother me on the lower resolution SAMOLED phones but a bit less on the same res but lower pixel density Tab 10.1 screen (however I prefer Transformer's IPS for a tablet)? -Thx
P.S. - I've heard mention in video reviews that the SGNote does have better color calibration than its other SAMOLED's handhelds.

"Blacks are extremely deep and colors are richer than life, which is typical of Samsung's Super AMOLED display technology. For this high end phone, Samsung spent some time calibrating and tweaking it, and the blue color cast found on other Galaxy phones is at a minimum, and pure black images are pure black with no banding or light patches."

There are three color settings that are select able by the user. They go from very saturated to about normal.

I didn't know that, cool, I'll look into that, if anyone uploads a YouTube video I'd like to see if that shows up..-Thx
same as computer monitor
i was shocked at how different the colors where when i got my capitvate. unnatural is the only way to put it. took me a long time to get use to the pumped up color amoled screen. (certain colors are increased because that is ones your eyes see easier making the screen pop) so when i was thinking of buying the note i had read that samsung gave the owner the choice to change that pumped up look to a more natural scheme i was thrilled. the lower saturation of color feels more closely to regular lcds. when i hold the phone next to my high end computer monitor with the same picture they are very similar in hue and saturation. although sometimes when i am showing off the big screen phone to friends i switch to the standard amoled setting (because the colors pop) i usually choose the lcd type setting for everyday use. hope this helps.

It does help, thanks, how is that color setting changed?
P.S. - Even on my newer Samsung TVs, when someone with blue eyes comes on the screen they can look fluorescent fake giving it a sci-fi vibe that can look ridiculous!

Zedomax did it http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=RsmDvvckt6k#t=1096s but ideally still would like to see it in person. The higher res screen must help as the colors are not bothering me like they do on lower res SAMOLED screens. I'll check out the 720p SGNexus in person even though I don't think it has the SGNote 3 color settings ("Dynamic, Standard, Movie" in Settings->Display-Screen Mode) that provide more user control.
Still would also like to see the SGNote with other launchers+cool live wallpaper as I'm no fan of the stock TouchWiz look..it shouldn't be too difficult to make it look cooler than stock right?

Mine is generally not too bluish as other display floor models even under daylight (5000-6500 Kelvin).
Color is just right.
The screen is perfect, just have mine set up like this for a little bit of more contrast.

I just bought this phone Saturday and I love the whole big screen and 2nd screen but one question is making me doubtful about it. the images are so pixel or some what very contrast that it makes it look very contrast and some kind of blurriness not sharp. Can you help me with this.

Search for "screen color adjustment" in settings.
I like how natural the images are, they're not over saturated ... they appear sharp and natural.
Go to google playstore download display calibration its an excellent app it akes a huge difference at any brightness level also download v10 hidden settings another great app no root required for either v10 is an awesome device had mine just under a year no equal in the camera dept. And just as quick to load apps games etc as my wifes s7

I have mine OFF and it is perfect :good:
Hello everyone ,i recently got a z3+ and i noticed that the black levels of the screen are pretty bad...coming from an oled display i was expecting some diffrence but not that bad...I watched some movies and in the dark scenes it is very difficult to see the picture ,everything looks the same and you cant really see the characters or the background ..its a mess especially in daylight conditions its almost unviewable.Cranking the brightness all the way up helps a lot -again in very good lighting enviroments/outside/daylight i cant see a thing in dark scenes- but then the black levels are too bad almost grey not black..
I also had a z1 compact which i dont think it was that bad, i'll try to test them side by side...
So i was wondering if a have faulty screen or something but i would like to hear your experience ...
Overall its nice screen bright with nice colours etc..but the black levels are a dissapointment in movies/videos..
Also i have disabled all screen enchanments (x-reality etc) and my white calibration is 178/162/37 RGB
Based on this review i was expecting more...
Blacks are pretty good in my opinion contrast ratio is brilliant for a ips. But this may come from you're eyes trained to a OLED screen. It's like my TV I have a lg OLED in the living room but a led in the bedroom and now I'm seeing grey instead of black :silly:

Here are some photos of my screen's blacks ...taken at 100% brightness in a 100% dark room ,all screen enchanments off, showing the same black level block picture in all 4 photos...i tried to adjust the camera exposure to make it look as close as what i was seeing ...as you can see it actualy can lit the desk under it and there is massive light bleed (if thats the correct term) out of the 4 corners in low viewing angles ,it actually creates a shape of X of light in a surface...Thats all please try it too to check out your results so as to know if i have problematic screen...

So I have the phone for two days already and I must say I'm a bit disappointed with the screen calibration.
The white has a grey greenish tint to it and even after playing with the advanced setting in the display mode moving all the way to cool color and taking the green bar all the way down to get a decent white.
In the cost of making everything look washed out.
Either I have a defective panel or it's the built in bule light filter Samsung are adding (even when blue light filter is off)
Any suggestions would be great

I have a thread about this. Many other people are reporting their Note 20 Ultra display is not as bright as their previous Samsung display.
Check out the thread with all the pictures from me and other people here...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...o/note-20-ultra-vivid-bright-note-20-t4144727
512GB Black Unlocked Snapdragon USA Made in Korea model with yellowish tint making whites look yellow and colors are noticeably less vivid when compared to my Note 10+. Brightness is fine.
Despite what displaymate said, its not great. Especially
the white balance. It looks very grayish and a little yellowish. Even with brightness cranked up all the way and vivid color profile. My OnePlus 8 Pro looks much better. Also others have said the contrast and colors are much better on their Note 10+ too. The vivid profile should be much better than it is for a $1300 phone.
Screen tint
Do you see any screen tint when you looking at white or light grey background ? On about 40% brightness.
My first ultra snapdragon was yellowish second is fine. It's oled. That's what happens. There's variences
Does anyone else feel like there's a haze/fog over the screen when the brightness is around 20% or lower?
This seems to be more noticeable on grey backgrounds. White and pure black seem perfectly fine to the eye
It's hard to try and explain?
Could it be the same issue that*plagued the 4 when it originally came out. Gamma/software calibration*needed*possibly?
It seems fairly uniform too, which makes me think gamma issue rather than panel/HW issue?
Has anyone else noticed the same?
yes, i see the same!
Yeah, we discussed a similar behavior in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-5/help/colours-bit-off-everything-bit-beige-t4179867
For me I do see this "fog" brownish tint in every brightness situation....

Not the same thing. You're on about color profiles in that thread. This is more like a contrast issue at lower brightness levels
Well... than i have both... there’s fog with loss of contrast and there is a „warm“ color calibration.
My P3 shows black areas where the P5 is grey. Plus, white is minimal brownish so i loose contrast.
I come from a Pixel 2 XL with the black crush. In terms of contrast at low brightness levels, the Pixel 5 is far superior.
Undecided whether to keep it or not.
Grey's look really weird compared to my S10e. Nice and dark on the S10 and really light/pale on the Pixel?
Here's a capture of screen uniformity too
