Microphone gain is really bad actually.. The sound quality is OK but the gain is so bad. A lot of times people can't hear me when the phone is 6 cm away from my mouth.
Probably a firmware issue?
Running stock rom P2a42_S062_170117.
Planning on rooting and changing rom soon.
I use jio ansd airtel in a area with usually good signal strength. Call quality is top notch, crisp and clear. Far better than Iphone 7.

What rom do you use? I've had this exact same problem with my Lenovo Z1. The microphone gain is so low, when calling I need to push/hold the phone next to my mouth really close. If I keep the phone 7 cm away from my mouth people can't hear me at all.... And this happens a lot when I am doing multiple things at the same time or when I am walking. This is really a bullsh*t problem I have never had before on any other phone except for Lenovo phones with stock firmwares...

so far i have never noticed any issues with any roms. I have had official rom, lineage based roms... Voice calling is always clear at both ends.

That's really strange. The problem on my device is the microphone gain. Also when recording video's or just audio.

Hey everyone, I've been pretty happy with my Xperia Z until yesterday when I was out and people called me and I couldn't really hear anything they said as the volume was too low in the earphone.
The earphone was / is clean and dry and I have tried different settings and of course max volume etc but it just seems to be too low?
Anyone had any better success with talking or rather listening to people trying to talk to you in traffic or noisy environments?
Surely Sony's flagship phone must let you actually hear what people say when they are calling you?
EDIT: I actually tried the service menu and the tests are pretty loud and very clear compared to calls... so at least the hardware seems to be ABLE to do it's job...

I find the sound quality from the earpiece terrible. It's not only quiet but very muffled and I can't really hear people on the phone even in quiet environments. I'm going to take the phone back because of this!

If you haven't yet, try turning off the Speaker voice enhancement under Call settings. That actually improved the in-call sound quality quite a bit for me.

Hm mine was off but turned it on now to see differences, will have a go tomorrow. Also there is a EQ for calls there as well that I haven't tried yet. I'm hoping that it's just the firmware that needs some extra push as the service menu proves Z can provide some serious quality in the hardware...

Yes the problem still remains no matter what settings you do... I wonder if a rooted phone with a sound mod might increase the volume on the call side...?

Top volume I find it's very loud, but a little distorted. Drop down one level and it's still loud enough but clarity improves
The speakers are very loud, specially in theater mode, it's perhaps 3x louder and more detailed than an A9
while you don´t matter the ring sound you will be fine
When you hear music is good but not so loud that M8/M9 even M7, IN HEADPHONES ARE VERY VERY GOOD
but if you expect a good ringtone sound...forget it, in this configuration the ringtone only sound the lower speaker ( When the phone rings)
the ring call sounds muffled and very low, same for notifications, alarms and messages
don´t think place a song like ringtone.... this will be sound TERRIBLE
I don't understand how people calling the speaker loud. I find it a bit opposite. While I cannot say the music coming out of the speakers is low (definitely can't call it loudest), the vocals or speech in the youtube videos are definitely not loud at all. I find quite hard time listening to youtube reviews videos in a room with a ceiling fan running. I am using Insertcoin Rom.

Much Louder
it is much louder than other cells but it is my most fav cell phone
regards Junaid Shahid
Loudness to me seems quite average, but pretty clear and non-distorted. Then again, I don't think I thought the HTC 10 seemed that loud.

I literally just got my HTC 10 today and I found this to be the case too... at first. I'm not sure what it was, but after updating YouTube, the volume went through the roof.

It seemed to. I don't know if it was that or something else, but basically I was shocked at how soft the speakers were, then YouTube closed and updated, then I reopened and played music at a decent volume.
Weird huh.
Everybody noticed how top speaker is way to quiet comparing to bottom bass speaker? In Black Player EX to balance the both speakers even I need to lower the bottom speaker to about 15-20% to have them both at about same level.
Volume is average. Not much louder or quieter than most phones I've had in the last few years. It certainly seems clearer though than other phones where their volume is definitely louder. (They tend to distort at high volumes, limitation of physics with space constraint within the phone.)

yes, the top speaker is designed for low frequencies and the bottom for bass, for this the upper speaker never will sound with the same power and for to balance you have to apply more balance setting

Overall I've just found the volume to be a little soft to be marketed as "BoomSound". My girlfriend's iPhone 6 has a louder speaker! And the quality is great, but sometimes sounds... I dunno, hollow? It's a bit like I'm listening through a pipe, or in a concert hall or something.

So many HTC10 users and no one bothers to check in 5 seconds if the top speaker is on purpose much more silent than bottom speaker in playing even a simple stock ringtone
-_-
With standard htc ringtones it seems to be otherwise you claim. Upper speaker gets higher volume. Probably reason is that htc intend to use trebble & whistle like ringtones which use more upper speaker involved in producing sound.

Just the opposite here with music ringtones, Game of Thrones mp3 and 2 others are louder and clearer than any music player including Pandora. And both speakers are being used when phone rings, alarms and messages. So that's not true.

Speakerphone calls have an echo problem for the other party. They will hear their own voice. I have witnessed this on regular calls, Skype, and Hangouts. Somehow WeChat calls don't have this problem. So far, this is the only downside I have found to this phone.
Weak speaker, but usable
Some app to increase a bit the sound of notifications and calls. I listen rather low ...

To increase the maximum volume, install an EngineerMode app from the play store - they all seem to be about the same. Then follow these instructions to increase the maximum volumes: http://www.zopomobileshop.com/zopo-rom/how-to-increase-zopo-mobile-phone-mic-loudspeaker-and-ringtone-volume/

ill try that later, we have this as a backup phone that we lend the kids and stuff but wife has been complaining how crappy the quality and level is. the back speaker thing is kinda bad design imo. we are also spoiled by htc phones over the years and this is our first non htc in a long while which have fantastic sound.
now after doing your "mod" is it distorted or does it still sound good? sometimes louder isnt always better.
It makes it louder, but doesn't change the sound quality at all. In my opinion, the speaker is the weakest aspect of this phone. Try adjusting it and see what you think. You can always change it back if you don't like it - you're just adjusting a setting. But for $60, I really can't complain much, and bluetooth works fine.

Worked great, quality isn't the best but for 60 bucks I can't complain. I have used mostly front speaker devices before.

The speakerphone is ok..... Sometimes I have to hold the phone up to my head if it is kind of noisy like a semi-truck passing or something
Cool
Razer Phone 2 speakerphone
I've had my Razer Phone 2 for almost a week. I used the speakerphone for the first time during a call today and it was very very low and the person on the other end kept cutting out. I actually had the phone up to my ear with the speakerphone turned on and it sounded almost like a regular conversation, but still at lower volume. All of the volume bars are turned up to maximum. Does any one have any suggestions on how to fix this? I do like the Razer Phone 2 but I do have some issues with it. Hopefully the developers here will continue to support it. Thank you in advance for any one that may be able to help me.
The earpiece is in the upper right corner. Usually I use the headset to answer the phone, my Motorola mx30 (mx30 in the moto z2f compatibility explosion) compatibility is very good (and razer dac). others. I think the speaker is good, kill my friend's red magic (red magic is very noisy, harsh), in a quiet environment, the experience is very good, playing games is great.
What is amazing is that the call is not very loud. Mmmmmmm, maybe razer afraid of others eavesdropping (I have already opened the outside, I will care about eavesdropping?
The speakerphone is suprisingly quiet considering how loud RP2 speakers can get in other media. They're good speakers, and this is coming from someone who's used to an HTC 10...
Maybe this is something that can be patched?
People on the other end can not hear me since MR0 while using speakerphone.
Every call I attempt to make use of the speaker call function, the person one the other end complained that they're unable to hear me.

Quiet Speaker Phone
Is anyone working on a fix for this issue? I love this phone, but this is annoying considering that I know the phone can be much louder.

I think it's already very loud, moreover you have to turn it down if I want to have a discreet conversation, otherwise someone in the same room as me hears what is being said on the other end of the phone ?

Here is the same. When I make a call in 1-2 minutes the other side cannot hear me. I have to hang up and to call again. I guess is software bug, not hardware.
