Hey guys is there a way to get this to connect to 5ghz wifi when available but 2.6ghz when only that is available? My router does both frequencies at the same time but my phone chooses 2.4 when set to auto

if your router broadcasts both, you can force 5ghz by going to wifi>advanced>wifi frequency band>5ghz only.
I know you said you wanted it to connect to 2.4 when its available, but that makes no sense since both frequencies are always available, so you can force it to only connect to 2.4, or only to 5.

Hello robgee789,
If I understand you right, you possibly mean connect to 5Ghz at home but still use 2.4Ghz when out-and-about and it's not supported? Or when it's out of range in your house since the 5Ghz penetration through walls isn't as good as 2.4Ghz?
Your router should support having different SSIDs for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz - since they're technically separate radios.
So you could have the following networks:
robgee789's WiFi
and
robgee789's WiFi (5G)
If you forget both networks, then connect to the 5G one first, then the 2.4 one after - your phone should prefer the 5G network, but still connect to the 2.4 if it's not in range. It just doesn't switch back very well when it comes back in range.
I could find the separate SSIDs but I told it to just use 5ghz the switch to auto and now it automatically chooses 5ghz over 2.4ghz cheers guys

Hi everyone
I have issue with 5Ghz band and search all over the net and didn't found answer
I use Tplink mrArcher200 as my modem
I have few other devices like htc10 and nexus 5x and.....
But just this phone can't connect to 5Ghz band.even it can't find that band
I know in the setting we have option for that but that didn't worked too!!
Anybody has same issue like me?or anybody knows what the problem is?
I'm assuming you have no problem with 2.4Ghz in the first place right?

My MiMax2 The same problem.

Someone can help!
I got my phone on miui 8 and it worked on 5ghz but I updated it today to miui9 and 5ghz isn't working Y all
Same issue Xiaomi MiWIF router. keep disconnecting my Mi Max 2 on 5GHZ. 2.4 is working fine.
No problem with AC68U and MIUI V9
Hi,
Does anyone know if there's a posibility to make my P10 "see" 5GHz networks in eRecovery mode? Because as for nowut seens to show routers from my neighbours but not mine... Thanks in advance.
yes, 5ghz networks work in the erecovery, today restore with an antenna that only supports that frequency
Then why it'snot showing mine? I heard it will show up on GHz networks only if there's no 2,4GHz ones around which is stupid.
I googled and found some users having same issue but not a firm solution as found yet...
The WiFi hotspot just don't allowed me to share as 5ghz band instead only 2.4ghz band...
There is no "advance setting" to let me select, wondering anyone having this issue?
Maybe it's not a hot spot after all

What do u mean? R u suggesting Telco would have restricted?
I'm connecting 5ghz band WiFi with no issue just i can't shared my hotspot as 5ghz band...
Got the same issue here with an S8. No 5*GHz option, I can only change the 2.4*GHz channel.
I have Realme 8, on C09, when using it as WiFi hotspot I can set it only to 2.4GHz. Is it for everybody, or just me?
Redmi note 7,8,9 &10 supports 5ghz as well as some none note variants like the Redmi 9,9T and Redmi 10.
Newer Redmi devices are more likely to have 5ghz wifi support. But when you're in doubt just google the specific phone model and check the “comms" area. If it states that it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band then it supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequency. But your phone does not show support for that wireless band on its specs list.
EDIT: just noticed you said Realme not Redmi lol, this spec here shows that your phone does have support for 5Ghz for sure. There must be a setting that your missing for that. I'm checking right now to see if theres any system settings that allow you to change that. Try resetting network settings.

I have a Realme 9 pro and GT here that I just checked with and I see the same thing here. It only says 2.4Ghz and in the updates, it shows a connections stability update which is probably where they just removed 5Ghz from the AP band choices. I can't understand why they would do that, but with data you really won't get speeds higher than what 2.4Ghz can handle. But going off of what I have here, it looks like most Realme phones have the same thing

Well, I wish I had a special trick to tell you that would allow you to use the 5Ghz band on that phone but I have no idea, sorry man.

Thank you anyway, just the information that it's not the issue with my phone, but with software in general was enough.

I tried setting region to Germany, but no luck.
Ok, what i discovered.
If im connected to a Wlan* i then can select under Hotspot 2,4 or 5ghz.
If im only connected to Mobile Data i only got 2,4Ghz
*Wlan supported 2,4 And 5ghz i doint know how it is, if the Wlan only supports one of them
