I have Realme 8, on C09, when using it as WiFi hotspot I can set it only to 2.4GHz. Is it for everybody, or just me?
Redmi note 7,8,9 &10 supports 5ghz as well as some none note variants like the Redmi 9,9T and Redmi 10.
Newer Redmi devices are more likely to have 5ghz wifi support. But when you're in doubt just google the specific phone model and check the “comms" area. If it states that it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band then it supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequency. But your phone does not show support for that wireless band on its specs list.
EDIT: just noticed you said Realme not Redmi lol, this spec here shows that your phone does have support for 5Ghz for sure. There must be a setting that your missing for that. I'm checking right now to see if theres any system settings that allow you to change that. Try resetting network settings.

I have a Realme 9 pro and GT here that I just checked with and I see the same thing here. It only says 2.4Ghz and in the updates, it shows a connections stability update which is probably where they just removed 5Ghz from the AP band choices. I can't understand why they would do that, but with data you really won't get speeds higher than what 2.4Ghz can handle. But going off of what I have here, it looks like most Realme phones have the same thing

Thank you anyway, just the information that it's not the issue with my phone, but with software in general was enough.

Ok, what i discovered.
If im connected to a Wlan* i then can select under Hotspot 2,4 or 5ghz.
If im only connected to Mobile Data i only got 2,4Ghz
*Wlan supported 2,4 And 5ghz i doint know how it is, if the Wlan only supports one of them

As posted...it has the 2.4 only or the 2.4/5.0ghz wifi?
From samsungs note specifications site:
"Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct"
WLAN a-band is 5ghz area, so I think it has 2.4 and 5ghz.
thanks

Hmm, anyone with a note actually able to use 5ghz wifi? I have so far been unable to.

hmm.. mine doesn't see the 5GHz radio on my Netgear WNDR3700.
Weird.
As a side note, i do think connecting to the 2.4GHz radio is a better idea as it has better range, and the Note won't be able to utilize the extra speed of the 5GHz channel anyway.
yes it works 5.0ghz also, with d-link routers.
its faster than on the 2.4 crowded band.
Mine connects to the 5 Ghz coming out of my WRT610N running dd-wrt
Works fine on my old Belkin G router (2.4Ghz) and the new Belkin N router (5.0Ghz). So yep.

The note has only antenna, so yes, it won't fully utilize it, but I get much faster speeds on the N router than the G oh and the speed drop off at the edges of reception is much less with N.
Hmm, well my 5ghz doesn't seem to be showing up. Anyone have any idea what troubleshooting steps I should take?

So just an update for people. I figured out the issue. 5ghz doesn't seem to be supported on 1xx channels, but works just fine on the lower frequency xx channels. I wonder, is this an European thing? Would there be a firmware tweak to enable the higher frequency (and higher output power) 1xx channels?
+1 on that. I would like to see it able to be used with the higher channels
I think it depends on whether the router utilizes the 20MHz or the 40MHz band. I bet the note can only see the 20MHz one.

OK ppl its the channel your router has set for 5ghz. European basebands only see 5ghz channels provisioned on Europe. Check Wikipedia, specifically here: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
Simple fix... change router 5ghz channel to match region of your baseband
Using a higher or lower channel means nothing. Its finding the channel that is least crowded and has the least amount of interference.
Worked!

I wasn't able to connect with my netgear wndr4500, but this fixed it! thanks!
Or you can always flash a firmware which supports your local 5 GHZ frequency in case you have other devices which use this frequency range. I noticed that Asian firmware supports NA 5 GHZ frequencies.
I have a Linksys E4200. I tried using WiFi analyzer and put it to scan for the exact frequencies available in the E4200 5Ghz configuration, the S2 is unable to detect any 5Ghz channels. I also tried selecting all channels, but it did not work.
EDIT: Just found an answer on another thread that worked, I manually set the channel to 36. The phone immediately detected the network. Its odd that in auto the phone cant detect it.
I have a Le 2 pro x620 and as per specifications, it should have 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz AC wifi but mine is not connecting to a Xiaomi WiFi Mini on the 5Ghz AC . I also have a Asus zenfone 2 ZE551ML and my Laptop connecting perfectly on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz. I have searched for a setting to enable 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz but there is none. So does it support 5Ghz?

So today I managed to connect to 5Ghz and the issue is on the frequencies. Am in Kenya and I set my Xiaomi mini router to kenya which selects FCC specific frequencies which are not what mu Le2 pro uses. So how cash I change the regulatory domain for the phone?
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my new P30 Pro. When I create a Hotspot in 5ghz frequency, no other device can find that Hotspot. If I change frequency to 2.4ghz then other devices can connect to the network. Maybe others have the same problem? Or my device is faulty ?
BTW when I'm connecting to Wi-Fi, either 2.4 or 5ghz, everything works fine
Maybe it uses a channel, that your other devices do not see. I think different regions use different wifi channel ranges. Maybe you find an option for that somewhere in advanced wifi settings.
I just tried on mine. My laptop pics up the hotspot on the P30 Pro no matter if it's 5 or 2.4GHz, no problem.

I didn't find any advanced settings regarding channel ranges / regions.
BTW my phone is C431 if it's good or not, I don't know. I remember C432 used to be the best region code, if you could say so. My P20 pro is C432.
How the problem started, I bought P30 Pro, opened phone clone app, I wanted to transfer data wirelessly from one phone to another. But devices didn't connect, tried multiple times. After that I started experimenting with 2.4 ghz or 5ghz Hotspot. And found out that other devices can't find 5ghz frequency.

My laptop sees 5ghz Hotspot, but can't connect to it. P20 Pro, honor 8, nexus 6P can't even see that. Samsung S10 can connect to 5ghz. It's very strange
EMUI 9.1.0.153 resolved the issue
Nope, it didn't. I'm still having problems - my notebook can see the hotspot, and can connect to it, but the phone just won't share the internet connection.
Bluetooth is turned on, and bluetooth tethering as well, 2.4 or 5 GHz.
I tried USB tethering. Tried apps from the store. Always the same thing - notebook can see the hotspot, but internet is not working. Any ideas? The notebook is Asus Rog G751. I'm on 9.1.0.1.178.
Same here. Laptop works on home 5ghz, but wont even see p30 pro 5ghz, its strange
Worst part is, 3 months ago it was working. Since I don't use it except when travelling, I have no idea what could have changed in the mean time.
In my case, max user connections was limited.
- press "Show advanced options"
- press "Max connections allowed"
- increase the value

Hi guys,
what network cards are your PC using?
Mine has a Killer Wireless 1535 built in and I can confirm this problem:
P30 (pro) switched to 5 GHz hotspot mode and PC cannot find it.
I think I may have found a reason for it, which needs to be resolved by a manufacturer (Huawei or a network adapter manufacturer - no idea if only Killer is affected):
The Huawei P30 (pro and normal model) seems to default the broadcast channel to channel #149 (5.745 MHz) when switched to 5 GHz hotspot mode.
This is a DFS channel in the only recently approved new upper channel range.
Apparently the killer 1535 cannot or cannot use these channels yet.
Actually it won't see it first. Then, when changing connection mode in the adapter property, it is found.
But after inserting the ssid password, access is not allowed and ssid vanishes from list.
Just like a restriction to invalid channels.
The broadcast on 5 GHz itself works, which I proved with another P30 which can access the AP of the first one.
However my notebooks (all using Killer Wireless cards) as well as a Samsung tablet can't.
So resolution could be:
1. Killer adapts its drivers or
2. Huawei defaults to a 5 GHz broadcast channel in lower, more common, 5 GHz band between ch7 and ch60 e. g.
(Or adds a user-accessible menue allowing selection of broadcast channel.)
I need to share my mobile internet via hotspot and with 5ghz band.
But the option not appears on my phone!
How can I set it?!

i really dont think the note 9 has 5ghz hot spot.
Unfortunetlly I can not send link. I see it on youtube tutorials.there is an optuon for it.
I have huge problem ever since I have switched to s21 ultra, I mostly use 5Ghz for mobile hotspot for higher bandwidth but I have noticed this option is disabled for me and I can only use 2.4Ghz.
Now in android 11 I was enable to resolve this problem by using activity launcher and manually accessing that menu and enable it, but ever since I have updated to android 12 I can not do that anymore,
I really can't find why samsung did that, my s21 ultra is exynos version.
does anybody have the same problem as mine?
I have searched for any app to enable this also google it but I did not found anything.
do you guys have any idea?

I'm using 4G
No 5G in my contry yet
I switched to 5G but no change
I don't think it is limited by this, Assume I even want to have hotspot with no sim or data enabled
You can do it easily in xiaomi phones, or with 2.4 in samsung
I'm not convinced 2,4Ghz WiFi will create a bottleneck while operating at 4G or even 5G. See no use case for hotspot without mobile data...
Anyway, on my S21U (Exynos) I can still select prefererence for 5Ghz WiFi in hotspot settings after upgrade to Android 12/OneUI 4.0...
