Sm-n9208 update can't receive calls - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hoping someone can help me here. I have the dual note 5 sm-n9208. I was told by a tmobile representative that my phone is one of the phone affected by the latest upgrade and makes it non compatible with the cell tower. Basically I can only run 2g on my phone, plz is there a rom that will fix this. I can't afford to purchase a new phone rite now. Alil of what I'm facing: using 4g I can use the internet, calls go straight to voicemail, outgoing calls take a while to connect. Under 2g can't search the web, but can make and receive calls. Did a master reset and the phone came back in Chinese, which lead me to the tmobile store. The language and input was missing. Thanks for reading this and your help. ?

Thanks for this, I was able to fine this info.
It gave me:
AP
CP
CSC: N9208ZZT3CQE4
How do I make sure it was flashed correctly.

There are many versions of N9208, this model was sold in india, taiwan, south east asia countries, etc. Check first country CSC of your phone, maybe it was flashed with a wrong firmware

[Q] Isn't Galaxy note automatically identifies APNs and stuff?

I live in toronto and trying to buy a white galaxy note .
i previously had 2 black galaxy notes, and they had no problems at all to find the APN settings for rogers, bell, and telus automatically. data and everything worked perfectly without setting up. those phones were from germany.
I went to the pacific mall yesterday, and i was looking for a white version.
first of all, she lied to me that the phone is from europe but when i checked its firmware it was the latest Hongkong firmware not european.
second, when i put my simcard in it, it did not detect rogers APN and she manually typed it in setting. i told her the phone is supposed to find APN settings automatically but she said it cannot find it automatically and she was typing APN for every single phone she sold. (she probably didn't remember me buying 2 phones without having to do that kinda stuff .. )
My question is.. that is it related to more like firmware problems? then I could just Odin it to the european firmware and it will be automatic?
Please, if you have any kind of informations.. please let me know...
Few days without my NOTE have been just miserable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
I can feel your pain
I have a European version, and it automatically finds all the apn numbers.
But I thought that these were preprogrammed in the simcard? Did not know that the rom-version could have anything to do with it?
Not sure if it helps you but im using xxkl7?

I thought so too until yesterday... but she was literally searching and typing right in front of me
conversation was like
She: all the galaxy notes are supposed be like this!
Me: what about 2 of my previous phones i perchased here?
she: we always do it in the back before we sell it to customer
Me: I thought you gave me brand new in box SEALED
and then she couldn't say anything and after 5 seconds she said ..
i don't know if you don't want it don't buy it.
seriously...
Its not the phone's fault that it dint detect the apn.
Its the firmware.
When i got note almost 4 months ago, i had to configure the settings by myself and i stil have to do it , when i install certain roms.

I guess it's the rom problem then!
so does it mean if i flash la4, it should find apn automatically?
i will give another shot tmr... hope there's no open box BS.lol

the one i am trying to buy is an international version and two of my previous ones were working perfectly without creating my own apn setting..
looks like you are using the LTE note released in canada..
if your phone originally was locked with other phone company than the one you are using right now, your phone might not have any other apn setting other than its original one, As far as I know.
I have the international version (I assume, I bought it from expansys), and it worked first time out of the box.
I have a Hong Kong Note with 2.3.5 and it found the Telus apns for me. I was surprised becasue I was expecting to have to enter them manually.
APN is related to CSC
If your CSC is not set correctly, It may not set APN automatically.
*#272*IMEI# show your sales code. If it set correct to your country code, it should have no problem
If your country code not appears, you have to flash CSC separately
NOTE : Flashing CSC or Changing CSC will wipe off data.

[Q] My Note cannot make/receive phone calls anymore :(

I think my N7000 is broken. Since a couple of days I cannot make or receive phone calls with my SIM card from the carrier 3 (Three Sweden). I've tried two different SIM cards from 3 but it's the same problem. Data traffic still works though since I can surf the Internet without problem. When trying to make a phone call it immediately hangs up, and if I try to make a call to the phone it's unreachable. My phone is unbranded/unlocked BTW.
I've tested with SIM cards from two other carriers and they both work.
The only think I can think of is that 3G voice calls are somehow broken on my N7000. My carrier only supports 3G and maybe that's what's broken... what do you think? (the other cards I tested also supports 2G and maybe that's the reason they worked, but I'm not sure).
Brgds... /Tubgirl
I think your issue is the same as mine, though to clarify my issue somewhat:
When the phone does this and I try to make a call it doesn't hang up, it kinds of gets stuck and keeps waiting for the back-end to respond. Similarly, trying to send or receive SMS messages doesn't work either. Rebooting fixes this, though it may happen again quite soon or it may take several days to happen again.
I think it is some background-process related to radio operation getting stuck, though I cannot say what causes it. Factory reset and even full reformat and reset had no effect.
I hope ICS fixes the issue.
What I've tried so far is:
Full wipe - No change
Next step will be to visit my carrier store downtown and test yet another SIM card from them. If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to get it repaired.
Oh yes... I tried another card from another carrier (Telenor) and changed Network Mode from "GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode)" to "WCDMA only" and it still worked. So now I'm not sure why it doesn't work on Tre ?!?
/Tubgirl
Update: Got a new SIM card from Three but unfortunately it didn't help. Tomorrow I'll send my phone to get repaired :-(
Brgds... Tubgirl
i got the same problem but is t mobile uk, "Data traffic still works though since I can surf the Internet without problem. When trying to make a phone call it immediately hangs up" I tried others sim vodafone, o2 both work without problem.
Factory reset, different stock roms no help...
Yep, same here. I just downgraded to KK4 stock ROM using Odin and it still didn't help.
Cannot send/receive SMS either.

I guess I have a Galaxy Tab 5.3 now
/Tubgirl
I have a similar issue, some times i cant call and receaved calls ends few seconds after hanging up.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
i give up, i changed the network providers to 3 network everythings back to normal.
I can't find the link right now but I read somewhere that there's a hidden area on the phone where IMEI and other carries specific information is stored. As I understand that area is not restored when flashing ROMs. Maybe there's a chance that area has been corrupted??

In my case , I cannot receive call - I believe it is software issue.
Is there any workaround how to fix it ?

Have you checked that your IMEI is fine (matches the one in the box or the one below the battery)?
i doubt its software issue, i also thought that i was having a software issue, after so many roms that i tried flashing, same result. stock or customized. I went to samsung service center and they had it tested, replaced the board that has to do with the antenna, and now everything is working properly.
same issue i have checked imei with the box and it ok, i can connect to 3G but can't make call only emergency call.
tried CSC Change
Galaxy Sim Unlocker and all unlocked
Base Band and Firmware on XXLSZ
the phone is british in italy

i have found a solution, set the date 2 months before and reboot. i can make call

Have you guys already tried to use your sims in someone else's phone? Could it be that you have data only plans? Those plans do no allow phone calls even if the device itself can make calls.

[Q] GN3N9005 problems with mobile data

Greetings,
I just bought a Galaxy Note 3 N9005 by ebay. It seems to be from France, EU. I'm from Mexico and I'm using Movistar.
Before I bought this phone, I read about edge, H, 3G and 4G compatibility, and everything was ok with its specifications.
Once I got the phone, I inserted my SIM and it auto-configure the phone, and I could call my friends, connect via wi-fi, send message, etc... the only problem I found was that I couldn't connect by data mobile, I checked the APN settings and it was ok. I did a factory data reset and it didn't change.
I have been reading a lot here and I found that this could be because EU restriction, but everywhere I read this, it seems like any functionality works when it's the case. I also saw that this could be solve rooting my phone and installing a ROM.
This phone was factory unclocked, without carrier and inside its box with the label from france.
could someone help me with this, is this normal o I need to return my phone and change it?
Thanks.
If I missed some information, please let me know.
I'm sorry if there was a topic related with this, I looked up for it and I didn't find it.

Samsung Galaxy S10 - Unlocked Phone (AT&T Blocked Call Issue)

So many people are reporting with the 3/1 sweep by AT&T, that they are blocking almost all Unlocked phones: See: Downdector Link We personally have a S10 (G973U1). AT&T is saying on this list: AT&T approved phone list that it is supposed to work. But like many other people "calls" end immediately, but we can text and data work. It is some sorta ploy by AT&T to force us to upgrade our phones. They want us all to upgrade to S22s. Anyway I was ranting. Anyway, if you look at that link, they are saying that the phone has to be on the latest software. The last update from AT&T or the manufacturer was in January. I checked the firmware site, and Android 11 is the latest in January. I'm wondering if there is some hack to get us on to '12' or something. An update might solve this issue. We know that a new SIM does not work. Calls seem to be rejected on the network, just based on the phone model or Android version.
We are aware that a version 12 is out there for the phone, just that firmware is not for our US-unlocked model yet. But maybe it can be hacked?
Edit: It appears this thread may be linked with this older one... But it is ever more pressing issue now:
S10 Unlocked phone with AT&T Firmware here they explain how, and the problems with flashing. This was back in 2019, so I'm not sure if this will still work. Even then it didn't work for everyone. Some in that forum claimed that it did. AT&T seems to now be blocking from their calling network any phones not enabled with VOLTE and the extended AT&T services that are not present in Unlocked phones.

I was helped by a user to achieve ascendance onto the AT&T network. I'm not sure if I'm to reveal his name. We 1) go into Developers mode on the phone. 2) Hack the Kernel. 3) Flash the rom to the G973U (model)... with the AT&T firmware. So that the Wifi-Calling and 5G features would work, and AT&T would allow it on their network.

At first I had to use the Samsung Band Selector app from the Play store and go into More Network Settings > AT&T > Preferred Network Type and choose 3G. Unfortunately this killed LTE so all data and calls were going through H+. As I was mostly on wifi I could live with it since I could actually use the phone again.
Then Friday morning I checked for updates and there was the update to take me to Android 12. I took the update then when it finished it said it needed to reboot to connect new SIM to carrier services....it wasn't a new SIM. I let it reboot and everything was working with VoLTE again.
Hope this helps.

Question Is the signal band set the same for SM-G998U and SM-G998U1?

Greetings to the community here!
I came here out of desperation because after several attempts I can't fix the problem with my phone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, specifically the model SM-G998U (CSC: ATT/XAA,ATT/ATT). The phone is unlocked and accepts all SIM cards. I live in the Czech Republic (the state in the center of Europe) and I found out that my signal is dropping here. A cell phone imported from the US has different radio waves. See the comparison there:
https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/CZ/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra
I wanted to ask if it is possible to solve this error by flashing SM-998U into SM-998U1 + before flashing, changing the CSC to XAA (or is it after flashing?). The phone has Android 12 and the last update was on April 1, 2022. However, I can't update anything because thanks to AT&T I have to be in the US + have their SIM to be able to get the OTA. Could mobile signal be a software issue (like if I manage to update it, is it going to accept European bands – certainly O2 carrier?)? It keeps losing signal (it switches between no signal - LTE - 5G). During the call, the other party can't hear me because my voice somehow falls out.
By the way, the seller told me that the phone will work in Europe, but it doesn't work for me to make calls. Do I have the right to return the goods?
Is there any kind soul who can help me with this? I will be grateful for any help.

Yes you are right . Facing the same problem here in Pakistan I have G998U model and it drop the signal from 4g to 3g (H+) frequently . I use the phone Hotspot in my car to listen to music . But on the same route it drops the signals and keep buffering. In Pakistan Samsung officially released G998B model but I don't like the exynos chip

Thanks for responding.
I noticed you flashed from SM-G998U to SM-G998U1. Did you notice any change in the signal when you flashed the system? Like, is it better after flashing?
I'm thinking of flashing from the G998U to the G998U1 as well.
Now I have CSC ATT. When I flash it to G998U1 do I have to change the CSC to XAA (via SamFW tool) or just flash it via patched ODIN?
Also, I don't want to lose data when flashing, so I have to put HOME_CSC in the patched ODIN right? I just don't know if putting HOME_CSC will leave the AT&T logo and bloatware on my phone. I don't want to be left with AT&T bloatware, so I'll probably backup my data and put a normal CSC in there that will wipe my data.
@iBowToAndroid
Would you mind helping me out, please? Someone on this page wrote that I should be careful about the bootloader version when flashing. Can I flash from Android 12 (April 2022) to Android 13?
