Music Stutters on my Moto E4 Plus when using fingerprint sensor? - Moto E4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
This is kind of stange and weird issue... I was listening to music the other day and whenever I put the phone in my pocket and walking the music starts stuttering. I first thought it was a problem with headphones... but I tried multiple headphones the problem still persisted. Then I brought it down to the fingerprint sensor. Even though I don't have a fingerprint lock (nor any kind of pin/pattern for that matter) and I have turned my moto display off.
I am able to replicate this issue just by placing my fingers on the fingerprint sensor.
Can anybody help me guys. Thank you

What music player do you use? I'm currently using Poweramp and I don't experience that issue.

I am using "Play Music" and "Musixmatch" both cause the same problem...

And I'm assuming that you are playing music through speakers right? Let me test and see what comes up. I do however suggest using other music player.

The problem occurs both in speakers and headphones as well. And a small update, I have tried factory resetting and that didn't work out. And a minor detail..I don't know if it matters but this occurs only when the display is turned off. It doesn't occur when the display is on.
And I will surely try other players and say if there is any change soon. Thanks.

Just checked right now.
No such issue with "phonograph music player".

Anyone tried this with Spotify?

There is a way but it's uneasy and not comfortable,i.e; place your mobile in your pocket with screen facing outside. Now the fingerprint sensor don't get disturbed with your the skin and no stuttering.

I have the same problem, in several different apps (I have not tried spottify, I do not use that). It only happens when de screen is off and if I wake the phone (power button) it stops immedeatly.

Do you mean it is related to the fingerprint sensor? Does that mean that disabling unlock with the finger print sensor could be a workaround for the issue? It is enjoying enough to me that that is worth it so I will give it a try.

I tried Sony Music , Google play music and facing this issue... Looks Poweramp is not affected with this bug

I just had this same issue. I was listening to Spotify with my phone in sleep mode when it started stuttering. I thought it was because the app needed updating so i tried using a mp3 app and had the same issue. I restarted my phone and so far haven't had the same problem but i am concerned. I don't believe my hand was touching the finger sensor at the time it happened. It only happened when in sleep mode and stopped as soon as i woke it up.

i have the issue and i can confirm it *does happen* with poweramp (and also with spotify)...it's definitely a fingerprint sensor thing and putting the phone in your pocket with screen facing out is the only thing that helps but only to an extent - it's definitely something to do with moisture because when I have it in my pocket while working out, as I get sweaty the problem gradually gets worse

Front camera as ear detector

HI,
Here's an idea for developers who doesn't know what app to write next.
I was thinking about using a front camera as a ear/face detector. You start it along with the dialer and monitor the output. As long as the picture is bright above set threshold app does nothing, once the picture tuns black (when you put the phone to your head) the app turns off the screen, turns off outer speaker etc.
There is of course problem of calls at night but still I think it would be nice and maybe even useful app.
So, anyone want to try ?
I'd have thought the biggest problem here would be telling the difference between my ear and the inside of my pocket.
a motion sensor would be helpfull here :/
there was a great discussion about wearable computing on the chaos communication congress a few weeks ago.
they mentioned problems like "where is the device" ie. tracking the position on your body. on possible solution is sending and recognizing a sound played by the external speaker and recorded via the mic thus you can determine if its in the pocket or not

Would this really be a problem? I'd think that turning the screen off while the device is in your pocket would be just as useful as while near your face.

This could be at least partially solved by using the system clock to only have the app active during specified hours of the day.

Not to mention that the idea mentioned in the original post suggested starting the "ear-detection" with the dialer. Hopefully you don't routinely use the dialer while it's in your pocket.
This is a great idea... but do get me wrong; a face recognition app to unlock the device could be a start
Ignore me I'm an idiot. I thought you wanted the phone to answer when it's up against your ear.

[Q] Sound gaps while BT streaming to car audio.

Hi, I Have strange problem with my brand new Xperia Z3 Compact. I streams my music from Z3C to my Pioneer MVH-X360BT car audio. Every few minutes there is a gap in stream that lasts for maybe half a second. That's very annoying! Music is still playing during this gap but I can't hear it. I had similar problem with Xperia Z1 but I thought it was some problem in old Android and some bug in BT driver. Then I've had iPhone 5s and it worked like a charm! No gaps, no problems with BT. Now I've returned to Android and I'm starting to regret this :/
I've checked everything I could. I've turned on BT visibility, turned off Wi-Fi, checked if no notifications couse this. I've even flash clean stock firmware (originally phone came with branded firmware). Nothing. I've tested many players (Walkman, Power Amp, Player Pro, Double Twist etc). Nothing. I though that maybe problem is in my SD card (I store my music on external card), but: 1) it's very fast card 2) copying music to internal storage didn't change anything. Sound still has gaps. I don't now what to do I'm sure that my car audio is ok (iPhone works), today I've tested SGS5 with it and it worked well too. Problem is only with Xperia family (reminder: same problem on Xperia Z and Xperia Z3 Compact).
Any clues? I hate changing my phone again and I love battery life on Z3C (main reason I left iPhone).
Please help!

I have BT headphones and I am not experiencing those issues at all. Could it be that your phone goes into some kind of sleep mode and then wakes up again? Try with some app that keeps your phone constanly awake/screen on. Does the issue persist? Can you try out any other BT audio devices and report if the same problem exists?

Huh, I've turned off the 'Queue data in background' (I have polish locale and I don't know how this option is in english so I translated it literally) option in power management settings. Nothing has changed Also nothing has changed while I was driving car with Google Maps navigation (or Waze) turned on. Still gaps were present.
Unfortunately I don't have any other device that I could test my phone with Only other phones (and all phones works great).
I think I have to change Z3C to another phone, maybe SGS5 (but I don't like Samsung...)
Ehh, tough one

Hi there, I'm facing the EXACT same problem with a few minor differences in the setup:
I'm connected via cable to a philips CEM210. This so called "gap" usually happens when I skip a track(or when the next track comes on automatically).
I have recently purchased the kinivo btc455 and will let you know tomorrow if the issue persists on the BT device.
I actually think 2mal might be on to something here I use stamina mode regularly and I have rooted my device and change tracks via the volume keys.
So the issue might be the phone wakes up periodically (skip track? check notification queue?)

Try this app while you listen to music over BT : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive
Still gaps?
Also I have Viper4android installed, dont think this would make a difference since it also worked before but its worth a try.
Get the apk from here and follow the instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
I assume your device is rooted as it only works on such.
Speaking of weird bluetooth bugs, my music has been playing in fast-forward occasionally (cm12). I have no idea why this happens or how to fix it, so if anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it.

Stay Alive didn't help. There are still gaps once for a audio track.
My device isn't rooted so Viper is not an option :/
Thank you, though

Hmm , last idea , try turning the timeout for visibility option in the bluetooth menu (in the right corner on the bottom when bt is turned on) to no timeout.

Jeah too bad i could not help, what you could try is go to a store and ask them whether you could try out some BT headphones, with the pretext of buying them ofc . If the issue is still present then it may be hardware related and an exchange unit could work just fine. Otherwise it points to some incompatibility issue that could maybe fixed somehow but not by me and my current expertise . Especially since i am not experiencing the same. Wish you the best and good luck !
I use a Bluetooth headset (mw600). Started with a nokia n900 and it had frequent gaps, probably due to wifi/interference. With the Z3C started with no gaps but now get few most likely when it leaves any wifi connection (hotspots).
Since you have tried all options on the phone side, it seems to be an issue with the particular car stereo. How about you reset the stereo by removing all power sources to it then pair the phone as a fresh new device and check if issue continues?
I have a similar issue. It seems like a head unit problem for me. Many problems there are with Pioneerer Head Units. Please don't buy this brand...
Have same problem with my Z3 and pioneer car sound.... No issues when i used samsung devices... Now i have a Z3 and the sound fails all the time....
I have 2 headsets bluetooth and i dont have any trouble....
The problem is between sony devices and pioneer!!!
Help!!!
This is not just between Sony and Pioneer. I have a Cardo Scala G9 BT headset for motorcycles, and never had a problem with my Nokia 808 for music streaming, nor my Nokia X2 DS (strictly used for GPS, no SIM).
Now that I bought my Z3C, I have this random gaps of silence while streaming music. Extremely annoying. Even after rebooting the phone, no resolution. Thought maybe there are some bugs with 5.1.1, so I went ahead and updated the firmware on my G9 from 1.6 to 2.1. Still same issue.
Another issue I found with the Z3C: When music streaming is playing, and I get a text message or a new email, the music volume lowers, but no notification sound comes through, before the music volume resumes. On my other phones, when I get a text message, the music volume goes down, and I hear the audio for new text, email, or whatever.
It is extremely annoying. Anybody know how to resolve first and second problem I listed?
Not a Sony issue. Had this with an lg g3 on a kenwood car stereo and the same with the z3c. Seems to be an android issue, as it didn't happen with ios. I am not 100% sure, but I think it only started with lollipop, because I had an htc one m7 before the lg and I don't remember ever having this before...
Yeah, I am inclined to agree with you.
With my Acura, the music has zero gaps. But when I am on a hands free call, I get the gaps! So it must be something buggy with how Android handles one of the BT channels. It is extremely annoying. And on the hands free calls, when the gap happens, my telephony audio goes to the phone. And when I try to switch it to BT mode, nothing, until the gap ends. Then I can switch back to BT mode. This is extremely frustrating.
Bump. I've been having this problem for months. I had it in KitKat too and it happens with any Bluetooth device. It always happens in specific parts in my route (place I go to often), even though I may have never connected to WiFi there or WiFi is off. Could it have something to do with GPS activity?
Any solution for this strange problem?

Hello everyone!
I also have exact same problem with my Z3C and... Sony's MEX-N5100BT, there's a couple miliseconds gap while the music is playing. The best part is that while I'm talking through the radio's built-in BT Phone, the audio never has this gap... or I haven't heard that since I'm using this radio.
But you know what? This happens so rarely that I just ignored it and got used to it and I recommend you to do the same

Bug: Headphones and Lock Screen

I've been meaning to post about this ever since the last OTA. I've been having a problem with audio coming out the phone speaker when headphones are connected.
Here are the steps to reproduce to bug:
1) Enable a pattern screen lock.
2) Plug in headphones and listen to music.
3) Hit "Lock your phone now" in the notification pull-down menu.
4) Unlock the phone using your pattern.
After 4), audio comes out of the phone speaker, not the headphones. Has anyone else noticed this? I usually use trusted devices with my Android wear watch to keep my phone unlocked. That effectively works around the bug most of the time. But, when I'm on a plane it's pretty annoying. If I want to skip past a song I need to first unlock the phone, which triggers the bug and tends to bother my seatmate.
I just tried it twice and it doesn't happen to me, maybe it has something to do with the app you are using for music? I'm using Google play music.

Odd. Thanks for trying. It happens to me with every app (including Play Music). And all system audio is redirected to the phone speaker.
Just to confirm, you're using a pattern unlock, not just a swipe, right?
Probably the only "weird" thing about my setup is that I have VPN credentials protected in the hardware keystore. But it doesn't seem like that should impact audio in any way.
Yup, I made sure it was a pattern...maybe the upcoming lollipop update will fix it

[Q] Music pauses intermittently

Hey everyone, ever since the first Lollipop update, I've noticed that whenever I listen to music, the music player would pause itself seemingly at random. This has happened with Google Play Music and Spotify, and I tested the Walkman app with the same results. It's not due to accidental headset control presses either, as I've run into the issue just using the phone's speakers. It's quite annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. A quick search turned up mostly Bluetooth-related problems, or headphone jack issues, but nothing quite like this. Any help or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks!
Happens to me to. Headphones plugged in and not. Google play music and pocket casts.

Youtube Music suddenly runs without any interaction

Hello everybody,
First of all : Happy new year !
I own a Pixel 4 XL running a stock ROM with the bootloader still locked (I actually don't flash my phones anymore since I'm a team Pixel member haha). I use Android Auto very often because of my job.
Here is my problem : Since the december update (I guess) when I disconnect my phone from my car (using the cable & bluetooth), and put my phone in my pocket, the song from the last music suddenly runs very loud (max volume) even if I manually stop the music player beforehand. I tried a lot of things to stop this problem that seems very random : I cleared the YT Music cache, I disabled motion sense gestures, I even did a factory reset but the problem is still here.
I have to think every time I get out of my car to low the volume before this bug comes out..
Have you encountered that problem ? Do you guys have any idea that could help me ?
Thanks in advance !
Nobody can help me ?
I don't know, what does team Pixel say?
I don't think there is a solution and you aren't alone. I don't use YT for audio, but all music apps have the same pain in the ass behavior because they don't close automatically and most often you have to use "recents" to kill them off. This is the same with Spotify and Pandora. I find myself having to close AA itself sometimes because it stays open long after I've left the car. Sometimes 20 minutes later I look down and notice it is still running. If it can start up automatically when BT connects, or even when "hearing" driving noises like the engine, the reverse should be true. You turn the car off, unplug, exit the vehicle WHY does it continue running? Not one of the top 3 music apps will kill itself.
Thanks for answering !
I actually didn't know anyone else would have the same problem so this is reassuring me hah
Yes that is so annoying having your phone waking up with music with the volume toaximum whereas 10 minutes ago you thought you did everything to shut it up
I think I've had this happen literally once and I do use YouTube Music. Have never had it replicated. Is it still happening with the happened with the January update?

Unfortunately, yes it still happens despite the last update. The only thing that seems help me avoiding the problem is when I manually stop the music in my car before unplugging the phone. Then, for safety I put the media volume to the minimum so if the music starts again in my pocket, I won't hear it.

Actually no. I plug my P4XL to my car through USB then it connects via Bluetooth and Android Auto runs on my car's screen. Everything work fine. When I'm arrived, I unplug my phone, turn of the ignition and the sound normally stops and YTM pauses. But something like 10 minutes later, when I'm far from the car, the last song I was playing in the car restart through the phone with absolutely no interaction on it.

I have a similar problem. I drive a lot throughout the day and Stream SiriusXM on my Phone through the BT on my work van. Very often, I get out and within an unspecified period of time, Sirius will start playing, full volume for no reason. It's as annoying as the Google Assistant suddenly responding to something I said without me using the OK Google prompt.
The fix is to close Sirius and swipe away the player controls in the status bar dropdown

Thanks for your feedback ! I don't have the Google Assistant problem you have but the exact same problem for the media. So it's not due to YT Music or Sirius. It's an overall media problem.
Unfortunately, I can't close the app because when I unplug the phone, YouTube Music isn't even open. And swiping right the player controls doesn't seem to work.
The only thing that seems to work is to stop the stream through Android Auto before turning off the engine and unplugging. But I have to think every time I leave my car

I haven't tried stopping it before I turn off the van, but that's an idea. I think when I turn off the engine, it pauses the stream on the device, sure, but what causes it to just start playing again??
TBH, that and the random dead spots around the edges of my phone since Android 11, I'm getting a little aggravated.

I absolutely don't know what causes it to start the music again. But closing it before turning off the engine and then force closing the streaming app does help. That way, the phone has nothing to turn back on
Regarding the dead spots since the update I don't have this problem... Yet. But yeah, Android 11 is one of the worst major update the past few years. Hope they will fix these problems soon.
