Please can one of you clever people help me. I have read loads of posts and sticky's but remain totally confused. Let me lay it out:
The first smart phone i had was a motorola A1000. using a symbian operating system. This was a quite a few years ago and I played with this loads, flashing it, making it a remote for my tv, etc. Since then I have got married, had kids, got two jobs, blah blah and totally fallen out of the loop. I used an SPVM500 on Orange as standard for a couple of years and then an HTC Touch as standard for the last couple of years. Never bothering to play or flash or fiddle.
Two days ago I upgraded to the HD which I was happyish with until someone told me I had a great phone, the best phone, infact even better than an Iphone, but within a month it would be out of date because it uses an old operating system (which lets be honest, isnt great) and I would have no access to a new iphone type store, easier menu's, iphone rival home screen etc
Now reading on here, it seems i need to flash my phone to a new Windows Mobile 6.5 release, which I assume will then make it the best phone ever again!!
Right, if thats correct and I have understood right so far I have only two questions
1. Why so many of these roms - is there not a simple list where the best one goes on top when its released
2. Is there a link to a very simple, some may even say slightly retarded, explanation on how to hold phone in one hand and magic rom impregnator in the other and let them bump uglies? I have seen a post by crackwhore (I assume you arent really one, althuogh if you are will you sort my phone for me for a small rock?) but still remain unsure of some of the language, processes and of course, which ROM to use
Basically, I want the ROM that makes everything work to the best of its ability. I also need and use office apps and want to put my tomtom mobile 6 on to it too
****** DISCLAIMER ******
Please accept my sincere apologies for being inexcusably slow - I am starting to feel like my dad needing to be tought how to text.
Hi,
Flashing a ROM is now childs play. All you need to do is put Hard SPL on your phone (See Crackwhore's step by step guide or the wiki articles on the Blackstone), and then download and flash your ROM. Hard SPL allow's you to flash custom ROMs BTW.
There is no best ROM by the way. It's too subjective, Alice's favourite ROM maybe nothing like Bob's, etc... I'd try one of the more popular ROM's on the Front page (Personally I started on Dutty's ROM's many years ago). There are so many ROM's because different people like different things (some are WM6.1, some are 6.5, some have lot's of apps, some have none).
Take your time to read through wiki articles, they go through ROM flashing step by step. All the information is there.
Thanks
Dave
1. There is soo many roms because everyone has different likes and dislikes. Some are based on WM6.1 and either 1.19, 1.56 or 1.57. Some are based on WM6.5
People have tried previously to make a list, but to judge which is better is a different story and a whole new can of worms.
Check out the wiki and section on roms. You'll find a list (slightly out of date) listing roms. Link to wiki in my signature
2. If you follow cRaCKwHoRe's guide you'll have no problems. If you don't want to follow the whole guide, I'd recommend using new HSPL 1.56. Someone on "cRaCKwHoRe's guide" thread will help you out if you get stuck. Link to guide and HSPL in my signature.
EDIT
Arrrgh!!!........I see DavidShaw beat me too it!!!! LOL
Then again if you just got your phone, why the need to flash it right away?
I would play with it for a while, install a few apps here, read through some tweaking guides there. Eventually you will learn to use the phone, and thus also learn how to use your phone. If you have been out of the loop for some time, let it grow on you before you manipulate your newly acquired device. It is a great phone, even without all the roms out there. Many aspects of the newer roms out there can be achieved by installing some apps. Granted not all of the newer features are available on the stock rom (calendar tab for example).
Once you start flashing you will always want more, let me tell you that . So enjoy your phone for a while before you start experimenting.

Good advice.
Yes definately get to know your device and read up on the wiki. If after all of this you want to flash, at least you'll be prepared
great advice, thanks all - will try and get tt6 working first as thats what is really annoying me most!!

Your problem is that your most likely not using correct version of tomtom. TT7 is out, but you'll need to check which build or version of 7 works on the HD.
Go to Themes, Applications and Software forum and do a search for tomtom. I've started you off with these 2 threads:
TomTom On HD
TomTom - What Version??
Hope this helps
fantastc - thanks so much. will be bedtime reading for me tonight
(its the same tt6 i had on my touch. i have just taken the mini sd card out of one and into the other which has the .cab files and maps already on it)

I'd keep all your files, especially the maps etc. Go onto one of the threads I listed above, probably the first is the best one and they'll be able to guide you in the right direction. I'd imagine your maps should work on another version.
I have version TomTom 7_910.9185 working with no problems. If you PM with your email address I'll happily email it to you. I do however believe their is some newer versions, though some have had problems with them
hi, does anyone know how to hard reset a t5353 Dual OS so that both Android and WM go back to factory settings?
i was able to do a reset on wm by going thru the settings and all but i'm having problems with android part of it.
HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ANDROID OS!!!
i tried to calibrate the ANDROID screen and instead my finger, i used my stylus. It picked up my stylus during calibration but after that my screen stopped responding to any touch what so ever. i can press volume, windows, back buttons (or soft keys?) etc and they work just fine showing that the OS itself is working but it's not picking up anything on the screen. Actually, i did notice that when it is about to "sleep" and the lights get "dim", me touching on the screen wakes it up... any help would be appreciated....
i have tried the two of the following available HARD REST combination - neither one worked.
i also know that the touch screen itself is working because when i boot it in WM, the screen and everything else works just fine.
i've made a post in another thread but it's under WM area and my problem is with Android (for mods, just in case they think it's double posting--i'm sorry).
more info.
here is some more stuff that i've tried with the advice from adstrylight who was kind enough to spend some time on my problem

Android vs WM..
Which version of android do you have with your phone btw? Is it running from internal storage, or the sdcard(the easy way to tell this is if your SDcard contains a file called zimage or not)? I only ask as my phone originally came with android running from th SD, and was laggy/buggy beyond belief, and the latest version of A2.1 (the "fourth edition") is a world away in terms of stability etc.

not sure but when it boots, it shows the android logo (monkey or bugg or whatever it is), then it shows SOHO 2, and then shows a screen with "android" written on it...
no Zimage on SDcard. My device did not come with an SD card either and there is only one slot ( that i can see ) and it has my own SD card from before (which does not contain zimage). i even did a search on my entire phone and did not find zimage.

Don't know where this came from, but did you try pressing the zoom bar bellow where it says 'ok'? I only did this once, a long time ago, but this thought just occured to me over dinner....

yes, that is what i though initially. I was tapping all over the screen, trying to press "zoom out", trying to slide my finger towards "zoom out". I am not sure if it responded to me pressing over "OK" on the screen or "ZOOM OUT" or "CALL BUTTON" but it rebooted and did a hard reset. I was very happy at first only to find out that it only performed a hard reset on WM [very disappointing].

i'm not sure what that means... someone asked me in a different post if there was an external SD with a file named zimage... and my answer was that the device itself did not come with an SD card, i installed my own and it does NOT have zimage file.
thanks in advance for anyone who can help.
anyone? i'd really appreciate any ideas.
It could mean that you have a very different setup, or perhaps that it's an Android OS clone. Are you able to install apps through Android Market place ?

i "was" able to download apps from market place but since the screen does not respond to me "touching an icon", i cant really do much (nothing at all).
NOTE: the screen does however respond when the back light turns dim, me touching the screen wakes it up.
Mann i don't understand how no one knows the answer. All the hackers and crackers making big softwares available to everyone, and no one knows why android OS is not responding to touch????

Pardon?! You own a freaking clone which probably nobody else outside china owns and you are requesting any in deep assistance when nobody has the slightest knowledge about these fancy copy&paste devices?
Form you descriptions though, just to get that right... you had to calibrate your screen where you had to touch the 5 white boxes? If your Android installation is somehow a copy of the XDANDROID system which contains the touchscreen calibration app, then look for a file called "ts-calibration" on your device. Delete it and reboot into Android. (However that is done your device.)

1. thank you very much for your response. i will try to find the ts-calibration file and give it a try. i can upload the "rom" online, it says SOHO 2 when it's loading (if that helps?)
2. i think this device reboots like my samsung galaxy s, press and hold POWER and it asks you if you want to go in flight mode, power off etc.
i looked for this file, i actually did a search through my computer to see if i could find the "ts-calibration" but did not find it.
in WM section (using Resco Reg), i found a few .DLL files that had the word "touch" in them. One was "TouchRecognizer" and one was "touch.dll". i'm not sure which one exactly, but there were a few #s that changed after i did a caliberation ( on WM ). Is there a file in Android that's like that, maybe i could just copy those #s from WM into the .dll or something for Android?
thanks again for taking time to help.
No, you can't copy windows DLL to Android. I assume the only chance you have is searching the net, or some dedicated clone forums for the answer on how to reset your android installation.

I want to say, no working android.
Read and search in this topic, and you find custom roms.
Even with updated to 2.1 system.bin and data.bin android files.

thank you for your help. I have already been talking to some people in the link you just posted.
I've solved my issue by simply re-flashing it.
Thanks everyone who responded.
I have (tried to) played around a bit with Remixos player on a Galaxy TabPro S and the conclusion is that I have never met a piece of software that was so inmature, useless and annoying. It is just a complete waste of time.
Once you get it started (despite the humorous messages it's not funny) there is no way for me as a german user to control the OS. Touchscreen input for tablets are is messed up by bad programming, no proper screenresolutions available, no fullscreen. Touchscreen input for an Android OS is messed up. I mean just think about that. That alone says it all.
You would think that at least the keyboard support would work. Not at all. I don't know what kind of keyboard it is that is running under the german label, but it is not german. They don't even get the label right: It is named "german qwerty", but it should go "german qwertz"
So entering an email address: not possible. There is no @ on the so called "german" keyboard.
But the ads are working all over the place. Here you see the priorities.
This is not serious software. It's bloatware. It's nothing but waste.
Switch to live usb. It's generally ok.
It's clear the player isn't their prior project nor goal within android machine's market, and it's normal, there are others things to do. I even think it was totally optional for them to do one.
Whatever, even if not their top priority, the updates are regular and the soft will improve. It's principal defaults are material (+ language) compatibilities, and maybe requirements too. Hardware compatibility is something that is totally rectifiable and there is good hope it will follow. This excluded, Remix is among the best actual solutions and will probably keep on doing so.
But as always there are some impatient people to express in unpleasant ways and judge things in a direct or even extreme manner, even for something that is almost (or always, I don't remember, it was one month ago) a beta. So please no need to go in a ruckus or for trash talking here like it's done almost everywhere on the web. Especially with gaming, which scene is total drama nowadays, and which scene touch this soft as well because of it's potential with games ....
A word to the wises ...
you are right, trash talking is not needed. I think it is appropiate in some cases though. Developers are doing this for a reason, there is the intention to make money here. Somehow. They put something out that is not working at all, but wasting my time. That's not all right.
You say it is almost a beta. Well almost, yes, it is alpha or even pre. If they declare it as such, you don't hear a word from me.
This method here, the way they chose to go, is not ok. There is potential yes, it might be fine for some now, for others in a year or so, good. Until then mark it as work in progress and invite beta testers, but don't pretend you have an actual product.

Does not even recognize the Wifi on the Samsung Galaxy Tabpro S
Yeah yeah. Understood ... You are in your right because of commercial and ****s eh ?
To this point even if they of course plan to make money in the end, the soft is FREE, and like said, their commercial stretch goal is their MACHINES so making the OS work well first on em. To be more precise than before, the player here is what we call a loss leader, or event to be considered it a demonstration product, but a good one even with its defaults. Did you pay something for using it or is it free ? Do you make them live another way ? Do you have annoying frequents adds and downloads of unwanted apps like on some competitors ? Nope, they do differently.
Talk trashing isn't something to do, there is plenty of ways to express dissatisfaction or anger isn't it ? Or what are you ? Non human ? A goat ? Nope, it's not appropriate, you have no right, you are taking it. No right especially if you are maybe a player who is angry just because you can't have your decent easy drug game fix.
Respect AND disrespect aren't thing that are owned. They are something that is GAINED. And at the moment even if you may consider there is nothing allowing to give them your respect, there is neither anything to allow you being disrespectful. You are just drowning yourself in your own bull**** coming back and trying to justify yourselves.
As said, gaming scene became trash behavior all the way from down to top the moment it became easy access and global. People now think all is due to them.
I have nothing to do with gaming.
Yes I have paid with my time, wasted because of illusions.
Yes there are annoying frequent ads.
I don't share your opinion about respect and disrespect, in fact I think your are drowning yourself in your own bull**** coming back and trying to justify yourselves.
yea it is not needed here there are numerous of other emulator, bluestack or Andy...
Hey Novalis,
Apologies for the late reply as we've been swamped by our Kickstarter campaign. Also, really sorry to hear of your disappointment with Remix OS Player. I'd like to address the issues I can, and ask you to help us with a couple of the other ones:
1) Unfunny humorous messages - Noted, and I'll share this with the guy who thought it was clever.
2) The only place to tweak resolution is during startup where you click on the "Advanced" button.
3) The latest Remix OS Player has full screen mode.
4) We did not work on touchscreen support since Player was targeted at Intel based PCs whose majority do not have touchscreens.
5) The keyboard support - We did make changes to the way Android Studio laid out keyboards in order to support Keyboard shortcuts (ie. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V). May I work with you to improve this? Also, if there are any keyboard names (as you mentioned "German QWERTZ" we do apologize) we've misnamed, thanks in advance for letting us know.
6) We do have ads in the program. We are a small startup still and we do need to find a way to keep the lights on for free software products like Remix OS Player and Remix OS for PC. This is the priority in play here.
Again, I do apologize for any time you've wasted on Remix OS Player. We do have a new update that also supports OTA now.
Perhaps you can work with me to at least get the keyboard localization issue communicated in detail to our dev team.
Thanks!

1) look, I don't really care, it's just diffcult to find it funny if you are disappointed with the experience. In fact they would be funny if everything else was running smoothly.
2) add the native resolution of the host (you have to pre check that), and then
3) yes support fullscreen, and make sure that the resolution is properly scaled down on high res monitors (e.g. 4K).
4) In my opinion a big mistake. Android is a touch based OS and there a lot of touchscreens out there, more and more coming, and for them Remix is just unusable without touch input. I mean, think,: unusable. And it would be relatively easy to correct the mapping and disband the mouse pointer, ar least in fullscreen mode. Yes the majority out there has no touchscreen, but the majority of those who have want Android.
5) This is easy. Check out google for the german or any other language keyboard layout. Then make sure that your built in keyboards reflect that once you hit the keys. Then do your changes and check whether they interfere with what is expected from this keyboard layout.
Although it is a nice idea to transfer Windows functionallity to RemixOS it should not interfere with Android functionality. Android goes first, that's why people want to have it. Then you can add quality of life Windows features. If they work...
6) I don't mind ads. Unless they are not the only thing working... (for me)
I am sorry but because of the non working I had to uninstall Remix. And I would only reinstall it if I read that touchscreen support works. I would like to help, but without being able to do navigate, it just doesn't make sense.

Your points are taken and I've just shared them with the dev team in charge. I realize that with Remix OS for PC and Remix OS Player, we're never going to be able to satisfy all hardware/usage scenarios. We do need to choose our battles wisely based on the resources we have.
However, also as a startup, each user is vital for us. While still needing to adhere to the 80/20 rule due to our limited resources, I'll do the best I can to push our devs to work on 1) keyboard config support, and 2) touchscreen Intel devices.
Thanks again for your feedback and time.

Hi.
Just to know.
I read about adds in Remix Os (player, in my case), here, and else. But well I can't see any or I'm totally blind. The only "adds" I saw were at first startup, giving the possibility to download some apps, and I can't really consider this like pub.
I'm not complaining about not having adds, sure ^^ but where are they ? Normal ? Not even automatic propositions or even downloads like with Andy. If you needs publicity to live on, better it to be working
Putting out a free software download does have it's pros and cons. On one hand, it's much easier to build up a user base, to get higher volumes of feedback and to build off of that feedback. However, to maintain the team that works on said software is a challenge. We did place ads in the apps drawer and have aimed to be unobtrusive with the ads as well as tailoring them to be relevant to the user. However, we did receive some backlash from users who may not understand the need for ads on free software. Thus, we have continued to dial back the way the ads are shown so that our users don't feel annoyed with them. That's probably why you don't see it as very intrusive anymore. Thanks again for your comments and interest!

Yes, know that.
And I finally saw the tab after posting and looking again ... Recommendations. But yeah, it's faaaaar than invasive. Or even absolutely invisible and can be ignored. Can't consider that personally as publicity. For me and add is a commercial, it's bling bling or even noisy, so much you can't miss it, or are forced to it.
Ads play a big role in android,so no surprise here.

How is this model doing compared to the AX100?

I have read that it is possible to perform updates to factory programs such as the music part which is rather poor.
perform upgrades in the interface as for example the launcher and so on.
but in the MCU section I did not find what I have ...
