Hello Gentlemen,
I've recently got a OP3T running OOS 4.1.6 and i've been wanting to unlock the bootloader and root it. I've done my bit of a research and i'm little confused on what version of TWRP and SuperSU should i be using ? Do i still need to do the DM-Vertity bit? I'm considering just flashing:
TWRP: twrp-3.1.1-2-oneplus3t.img
SuperSU: SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip
Would anyone be kind enough to point me to the latest guide for OP3T for OOS 4.1.6 ? Apologies,if this has been asked before.
Thanks!
Unlock your bootloader with fastboot oem unlock, then flash this version of TWRP:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0pr-ZA5b-1peEVyVmpsbGZTbnM/view
Then you can flash either SuperSU: https://download.chainfire.eu/1113/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214.zip
Or Magisk (which I'd personally reccomend): http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk

Thanks mate. How is that TWRP you mentioned different from the other one for OP3T ?
Do i also need to flash the dm-verity disabler or is it not required if i flash the latest TWRP/SuperSU ?

Could you link me to the TWRP you found? And I didn't have to flash dm-verity disabler while flashing it on my 3T with 4.1.6. Just be aware that all personal data is lost when the bootloader is unlocked.

I'm not sure of the exact differences, but I think the blu_spark one I sent you might have fixed the dm-verity issues. I know that the one I sent you has no problems with dm-verity, so I'd go with that one just to be safe. There seem to be a lot of people bricking their phones by flashing the wrong one and I know this one works because I just flashed it yesterday.

It seems quite straightforward.
Can't see what seems not clear for you.

Typically, you want to use the latest files available. So in this case, yes that would be TWRP 3.1.1-2 and SuperSU 2.82 (or alternately Magisk 13.3, totally a matter of preference SuperSU versus Magisk).
There are some cases, where a new version may have some bugs. But I haven't heard of any of these particular versions.
Using versions that are a little bit older may still work. But anything that is too old, will sometimes cause problems. Especially when Android versions have changed, root methods updated, etc.
Thanks folks, i've unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. After flashing the recovery it was asking me for the password and it couldn't access the internal storage. I flashed dm verity and Magisk via sideload though.
Now, I'm wondering what ROM do i try ? I'm looking at Freedom OS + Franco / ElementalX. I need a OOS based rom with a good battery backup. Any suggestions would be appreciated

By default, it would be systemless, but if you need System mode, you would need to use another zip found under SuperSU subforum.

Hi everyone! I recently bought a LG G6 H872, which still has 10e installed. After crawling the forums for a bit, here's the sequence of things I wanted to do to it:
1.) Update to 8.0 Oreo via OTA.
2.) Unlock bootloader
3.) Root and TWRP using this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g6/how-to/root-h872-to-including-11g-t3775518
4.) Magisk
Is the latest Oreo update the 20a version that is mentioned in the thread or should I manually update it to something older. I saw that there was anti-rollback so I don't want to update too far. Also, if there is ever another OTA, how does one update the rooted phone?
Edit: I wrote up some steps if it helps you on this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77513501&postcount=4
I do not believe there is currently a way to root the T-Mobile versions.

That is not correct, see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g6/how-to/root-h872-to-including-11g-t3775518
For future people who come across this thread, here are the steps I took to root this phone:
1.) Factory reset and then update device via OTA incrementally until 20a (which is Android Oreo 8.0)
2.) unlock bootloader: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpaW0-8-QKY
3.) root device: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g6/how-to/root-h872-to-including-11g-t3775518
Note: there is a video tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z4CWLikPcI&t=821s. The first steps of flashing the laf partition are very useful to watch before attempting
4.) Factory reset in TWRP
5.) Reset after encryption error, then wipe with TWRP. May give mount error.
6.) Boot into Android Oreo. Device is not yet rooted at this point.
6.) Flash MAGISK via TWRP (SD card or ADB push) ]. Ignore the mount error. Reboot.
7.) Device is rooted! :good:
That's interesting
Without getting into an issue those steps look slightly different in order than the original process.
Or I'm a dumbass and somehow got it out of order. Seems ok now though.
Hello there!
I want to ask if it's the same to do the steps with 20e ?
Curious as well if this works with the latest update.

I succeeded in completing the process.
Permanent unlock from Tom via app.
Unlocked bootloader.
Twrp installed to recovery, can boot to recovery via low volume/power button combo.
Magisk installed.
20a working nicely.
I'm getting requests from Tmo to update from 20a to 20d. Is this recommended? Will twrp, root, unlock, etc. be lost?
I am glad to see that the bootloader gets unlocked easily. @alliance1975 how did you go from Unlocked bootloader step to Twrp installed step? That is the big one I think.
There is a good TWRP available, but we can't install it because the phone lacks fastboot commands. Is there a way to install TWRP? Or is it really that the only method is the rather risky runningnak3d method?

I used the procedure summarized in step 3. I agree it is risky, well, the riskiest root & twrp I've ever tried. I neglected to say I only read instructions, the dev who actually came up with the plan deserves all the credit.
When I try to oem unlock nothing happens. What can I do? I have followed all other instructions.

This is just a simple patched boot.img so you can re-do magisk after the update to 9.0.7 if you don't care for bothering with TWRP.
Instructions are the same as the others:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot patched_boot-9.0.7.img
Open the Magisk Manager App and click install. When prompted, choose Direct Install.
Profit!
Download Link: Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13RDdihjVwt1oXlaxasRXqu75_QlFJV2T/view?usp=sharing

In almost every case things will work on both unless otherwise noted.
@Dameon87 is there any way you could possibly throw an OOS 9.0.7 stock kernel zip together if it's not too much to ask?

You should address your issue on the greenify4magisk thread. The dev posted explaining the reason for the issue you encounter at the last page. I don't think greenify is needed for OnePlus 6T. 1+6T has a feature called Adaptive Battery which looks like it trying to do the same thing as greenify.

Sorry I should have been a little more specific. I know about the removing the magisk modules and also uninstalling magisk and even the locking bootloader back up, but if I recall since I am using a magisk boot image. Shouldn't though after uninstalling the magisk you need to flash a clean version of rom to get rid of that magisk boot image? That's the part I'm confused about because with my 6t I flashed it with twrp. I know it's fastboot to do so but unsure of the fastboot steps. I appreciate the help though. I just wanna start fresh with a clean rom.

Hi! Sorry to revive an old thread here, but I was willing to use this method in order to unroot and relock my BL. Coming from an OP10Pro Eu myself and being on NE2213_11_C.22 atm. So I just wanted to know at what point were you able to go to recovery and wipe data, did the rollback package process itself ended on recovery where you were able to click format or did you have to force boot to recovery at some point before an automatic relaunch?... If you remember of course! Thanks a lot in advance!
