BLU Vivo XL update issue - Blu Vivo XL

Hello, I have issues updating via wireless update. When I try to update through it I get an error telling me my system was damaged. From what I've looked up this happens when you've rooted your phone. Which is odd to me since I just got this phone. I am completely new to android so doing all this kind of stuff is beyond me at the moment. I was able to boot into I think recovery mode using the power button and volume up button. Doing that I attempted to install through that. When I attempted to do so I just get a Error. Nothing specific other than that. I do not have a SIM or external SD card installed. Everything is brand new and not used. Help would be nice.

Go back into recovery mode (hold down the volume up and power button simultaneously until the recovery menu comes up). Select factory reset (this will wipe everything and restore it back to factory settings). You should be able to update after that

[Q] Captivate can't enter recovery mode

Is it possible to have a phone that can't enter recovery mode?
My phone is rooted and I can enter recovery mode through Rom Manager but I can't get there by holding volume+- and power. I'm afraid some day I might mess up my phone and be unable to fix it because I can't enter recovery or download mode.
Am I just doing it wrong, or are there phones that cant?
I'm still within 30 days of my phone purchase, should I exchange it?
Same here. I can't get the phone to boot into recovery to update packages to install root. Any suggestions would be appreicated. I just exchanged my phone for a second time for a media player crashing issue, I called AT&T and they told me to bring it in for exchange. I can't get the new one to boot into recovery.
Mine only seems to work if I plug in a usb cable while holding the buttons though I'm sure I just haven't found the right timing the usb cable seems to help for some reason. And no I'm not getting confused with download mode.

I was able to root using the one click root method, the one that's stickied in the development forum. It doesn't require you to manually boot into recovery mode.

Hmm I guess I should exchange my phone. What should I say? "I can't get my phone to boot into recovery mode, I need a different one please." lol

I downloaded the oneclick however it is a .rare file and I can not extract the data with my pc for some reason. This is not my first time rooting a Captivate either so I have the tools and drivers. I just can't get into recovery mode and I am frustrated because without root I can not access my backup of Titanium or ClockworkMod.
I also am having problems getting into recovery.. Just got my phone today... I've tried about 30 times, and it absolutely will not go into recovery mode.
Works every time for me if i power off. Hold down volume up and down and power. Wait for the att screen to go off and as soon as it comes back on the second time let go of the power button and continue holding both volume button down until you see recovery booting. It works the same with a usb cable plugged in for download mode.
have you tried to get into recovery via adb , i always found that way a lot easier then pressing those buttons, pressing the buttons always hurt my fingers too much anyways.
From terminal in tool in the android sdk directory, you can do adb reboot recovery

i had the exact same issue of mine not working.. somewhere i had read it was to only hold down the UP arrow, not both up and down. I Just did exactly as you said and it worked perfect.
I am on my 3rd Captivate and it appears that the last two won't go into recovery mode using the button combo at all. My first Captivate did with ease, go figure.

Thanks I did it as you stated and it worked on the first try. Thanks a lot, you just saved me from agonizing over making changes to my phone in fear of not being able to get to the recovery screen.
If people are still having problem is suggest
1 turn off phone
2 count to 30
3 pull battery
4 putt in battery
5 hold both +,- vol buttons and the power
6 let go of power button when you see the att screen
Note: if that doesn't work than in step 5 hold the - vol and the power only or try to hold the + vol and power only.
Hope that helps even though it was said in the thread b4. Im just trying to make it clear
I've tried vol +&- with power.
vol - with power
vol + with power
I've tried letting off power at the at&t screen. I've tried one click root.
Nothing is working.
Edit: Lol, win 7 needs x64 drivers then I got it done through sdk. Still no hardware recovery boot though.
any chance this would work for our phones? Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (GT-I9000) Software Upgrades for Handsets with Original Production Software
.by Samsung Mobile Canada on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 4:14pm.A software upgrade is now available for Bell Mobility Galaxy S Vibrant handsets, provided the device has original production software (JG9). The latest version of Kies has been tested and will resolve the three-button recovery issue
I've read on a forum once(can't remember where) that there are different models of the at&t captivate, some ship without the ability to use the buttons to boot into recovery/download. It also said that if you call at&t and tell them you want a phone that boots into recovery they'll send you one.
I told them that this was one of the principal reasons that I won't be keeping my Captivate. I returned mine today (the second one i have had, and after a Nexus One and EVO as well).
Ok i had the same problem i broke the screen on my captivate went to at&t
did a upgrade went to root it and could not get into recovery after reading all the
post and calling samsung (what a wast of time) i took the back cover off my broken phone looking for numbers what i found was a batch # under the sn#
my old phone had 1007# my new phone had a 1008# went back to at&t we looked
at all the captivates until we found a 1007# poped in a battery and went right in
to recovery i'm thinking mabe the new batch# had something different but it worked for me thought i would share

Which update? The JH7 one? I can't boot into recovery either. I'm running JH7 on an AT&T Captivate unlocked and using it on Rogers in Canada, with "1008" on the back of the phone. Maybe they DID remove recovery mode since the "1007" phones?
EDIT: 3-button combo fixed using C3P0LOL's fix.

Unable to enter recovery mode after removing a system file by accident

Greetings. I ran into a major problem yesterday when i was playing around with titanium backup. I was a bit careless and touched some important system file. After which i was unable to reach the home menu nor restore the backup file. I rebooted and pressed the volume down button, and the "updating system.." icon appeared. Nothing happened for 1h, so i tried using the lg software suit to do a remote recovery. Nothing worked. I tried performing an update, hopimg the particular file might be restored, but the updater told me the new version is incompatible.
I'm a bit inexperienced in these matters, but i find it impossible that the bootloader could become permanently inaccessible due to a software error. I need to restore the original rom without accessing recovery mode on the phone - but how?
You're right, it's not possible.
You're trying to get into recovery wrong
Hold bother power and vol-, not just vol-

Thats what I thought I did, I always hold the power button until the boot screen appears. Still no improvement, seems I wont be able to restore my phone to factory default through normal means.
If you let it try and boot up, you might get it far enough to use 'adb reboot recovery'
If you ask me, the best solution is to flash the stock rom > root > restore titanium backup
As I said, there's no way I can reach any system menu whatsoever. The phone freezes at the LG logo on a normal boot, and in system recovery it freezes at "S/W Update". I can't do anything using the manufacturer's PC software, so what do I do? The rom is obviously rooted, but I'm not the one who performed the job so I don't know which software was used for that.

Access perhaps soft-bricked phone

Hi, I need some help or guides on a problem I just got.
I have a rooted S3 LTE (I9305), which seems to be soft bricked, if I understand what I have read so far. I need to either get it to work again, or at least a way to access files, so I can extract some data from it.
The situation is as follows:
I came home the night between sunday and monday, from a holiday, on which I had used the phone to take a lot of photos. At the point where I entered my car, the phone was working. I used the GPS to take, where I parked my car. Switched off the screen, and drove home.
When I got home, I could see the screen was hanging at the boot logo. So it must have crashed and rebooted it self at one point - don't know when.
Tried to restart 4-5 times, but only got to the boot screen. Pulled the bat. but still the same.
Suddently at one point, I couldn't even get to the logo screen, instead it just shows white and black stripes across the screen.
If I'm lucky I can get into download mode, but only around every 10 time or so.
I managed to keep it in download mode at one point, and through Odin wanted to re-flash my device, but it failed saying it need a pit file.
So this is where I stand now. Is there a way to access the phone from my computer, so I could download the photos taken, or can I flash it without loosing any of the photos and if so how?
if you have a custom recovery installed you could maybe try to plug it in to a PC and mount the USB storage via the menu

Which menu are you thinking about? The PC doesn't recognize the phone, as a device. Can't find it anywhere. And in the download mode, I can't do anything on the phone, or at least it doesn't reacts.
Anyone? I'm a bit lost here

Do you have a custom recovery installed like Clockwork mod or TWRP recovery manager?? If you have you'll be able to access it by switching your phone off then holding power up + home + power until you see the boot animation

Offcause I forgot the phone at Work, so can't test to be sure. But if I recall correctly I have TWRP installed.
But don't think I can get into it. The only compination of buttons that I had success with, was volume down + home + power into the download mode, as I said. But that isn't even all the times I can get into that.
Update:
Yes, as I expected I couldn't start it with volumen up + home + power, all I get is the black and white stripes.

Unable to enter forcibly update after installing TWRP

Hi Guys,
After the disaster of updating to Nougat, I got a replacement from the store, I unlocked the bootloader and as part of that, the phone had a factory reset. After this, I put TWRP on the phone and reset again.
The first thing I noticed was that after selecting the wifi for the first setup a screen about resetting data and I did. Once the phone booted, I also noticed that the default theme was gone (gold) and no themes are actually being installed. I see the default icons from Android and not EMUI!
Now, to the main topic, I CANT GET TO FORCIBLY UPDATE MODE!!! Whenever I press VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER, the phone goes directly to TWRP, this means that I cant remount any firmware.
Any thoughts on why this is happening? Is there a way to install UPDATE.APP from the graphics without going to this mode?
Details below:

Android 6, EMUI 4.
Thanks for your help!

Could not do normal boot. Invalid KERNEL LENGTH.

This message I get when I try to power up my Note 9 N960F/DS.
I got it this way: Been running the same ROM for 2 years. Time to upgrade. Upgraded TWRP via the app. After downloading the ROM image to SD card, I tapped an app called Reboot, with the Recovery option. I suspect this app is from some old installation, and ended up on this unit via data restore. Now all I get is this message on a black screen. No logo, nothing. Message flashes once. If I plug into PC, message flashes repeatedly. Cannot boot to recovery using Vol-+Pwr, Vol++Pwr ineffective.
I suspect I bricked the phone, but I seem to remember once breaking out of this 2 years back, I think. Any ideas, clues, anything?
Try this, power off phone. Press volume up and bixby button and while pressing buttons insert data cable, phone should go to downlaod mode. OPen odin and flash stock firmware.
OK, tried it, display showed the same message until I released the buttons, then flashed the message every 4 seconds until disconnected.
OK, got it into download mode, reflashed twrp, now it's in a boot loop. Will continue working this.
It took a few tries, but I not only got everything working, I restored my data backup and upgraded to Android 10. Thanks all!
