Anybody with the dex.... Is it worth it?
Going to preorder the unlocked note 8 and get the DEX for $99 and roll it in with the 0% financing so debating if I should.

I got it with my order because of the discount and it is supposed to work great with the Note 8..
I'll be able to tell you on the 5th. LOL

Wait and buy one from EBay next month..
I get it free with my note 8 (UK) and it'll be going straight on eBay as I imagine lots of others will too
The promotional device that Samsung is giving isn't a DeX is it? I thought it was just a wireless charger... That would be cool if it is the DeX...

In some countries you can choose 128Gb memory card + wireless charger or Samsung 360 camera, some countries will get DeX with no other choices.
I would go for card and charger but that's not a option for me, so DeX it is..

UK gets the Dex
Interesting, I wonder why it is different for UK users?
I have a 256gb and 2x wireless fast chargers. I wish they did the DEX here too lol

Updating. Yeah, I think it is. I mean, I wish the USB part was retractable and it was also a convertible wireless charger, but it is pretty amazing for what it is. I can pull it up and do things on my phone on a full screen monitor. I think it is worth it *IF* you have the setup to make it efficient.
To me DEX is useless. I rather opt for wireless charger or Gear 360

I'm going to get one only if Samsung honors my preorder through tmobile and gives me the $50 off. They have it listed at $120 so That would bring it down to 70. I already have an HDMI / USB hub but I think I'd actually use the DEX.

I think 120 is current rate. But mrp is 150. 50 off would apply to mrp bringing the total down to 100 not 75. Just my previous experience
Well I'll be getting two Note8's this week and 2 dex.. No other choices in Portugal.. I'll let you know if it is worth it by the next weekend lol
If anyone with a DEX (or anyone that has a DEX coming) wants to trade for one of the US Pre-order Promos (Gear 360 or 128 Gb MicroSD + Wireless Charger) let me know!
I haven't registered for my promo yet, as I already have a few of the chargers and 256 Gb MicroSD's; but honestly don't ever see myself using the Gear 360.
If interested, send me a message and I'm sure we can figure something out!
Edit
I ordered one brand new on eBay and it was only 70 something bucks so you can't beat eBay. I should get it next week.
If youre not using it, it is definately not worth it!
If you use it it's worth the money. It did replace my PC, I only do office and internet stuff. And I have my PC on the go now...
Guys DeX as a pre-order bonus is only for customers in the Europe, for US it's... you know. I would rather go for the 360 Cam or the 128 gb microSD and wireless charger than DeX for which I don't have any use except of multimedia center at my TV but... Nah, I will sell it anyway, useless and rather get some money from it since in EU we don't have compensation for Note 7 owners.
Well we do but only a powerbank for few bucks and that's massive joke.

Stuff up here is definitely more expensive than the states.

Impulse buying when the phone is originally bought. Wouldn't take much of a salesman to sell a 50 dollar case to protect a 600 investment. Or all the neat add ons "to get the most" out of your brand new phone.

This. I'm such a sucker for it.
My thought process: "Well, what's the difference between spending $200 or $300 on a phone when I'm paying thousands for the service? Might as well get the best one. And why did I buy a phone with removable battery and storage if I'm not going to buy a spare battery and spare battery charger, and a 64 gig microSD? Wow... I've got a lot invested in this thing. Better buy a case for every day use, and a tank of a case for when I go out. What's this... an app that I will use every day of my life for only $5? That's one drink out at the bars, I can swing that. An app for $0.99??? Might as well be free. Oh, and can't forget the car dock and charger, that's an essential."

You forgot to mention screen protector and also new pair of jeans with bigger pockets and pouches to protect the case thats on your phone...and if thats not enough might aswell get a crib for it by the bed side. And just to be sure and on the safe side avoid having kids for aslong as possible just incase that requires you to divert your attention from your note 2....

You are right to tell people to be wary of the price, Especially in the case Custom Duties i.e. vat to added [collected at this end by PO], plus the minimal £8 Post Office Charge.
Take Care
TheQuest
Samsung is expensive because they guarantee the products will fit and work 100% with the phone plus every manufacturer always charges more for their respective products. Example: htc charged around $40 for their mhl adapter and $50 or more for their tv dock. It's just a matter of finding items cheaper and hoping that if you buy generic it won't damage your phone and fits correctly. There are plenty of reputable companies that make accessories you can count on. Like otterbox, seidio, spigen, and many others.

Lol what you said about "what's the difference between spending $200 or $300 on a phone when I'm paying thousands for the service" is so true for me. I have to always buy the best phones out. Unless the phone was alooooooot cheaper, as in free, I would never choose a S2/N1 over S3/N2.

So you think a $50 MHL cable is fine when it probably cost them 50 cents (maybe a dollar) to make in china. I'm all for a company making money/profit but that's kind of ridiculous.
For cases, I always hit up ebay. For the same price as a retail case, you could buy a dozen and try them all out!
For cables, chargers and batteries, however, I've been very hesitant to get them "cheap" because of the risk of damaging my device. After reading an article about various chargers and usb cables which showed that the third party/counterfeit brands have no consistency to them, I've stayed with trusted oem brands.

Why are genuine apple accessories?
Why do dealerships sell spark plugs for 5 times the price of an auto store?

I just got off the phone with Samsung. NO Replacments are being sold YET. The Gal I spoke to was really nice and found out that they should be released MID Nov, she inquired further that an internal memo said the should be ready for shipping on Nov 21st. And they will be about $30-$50. They have not yet settle on a price. She expects it to be 30 for OEM and 50 for retail package version for the stores. (Available First of DEC.)
She did say they will work for charging only they will not work for activation. (Missing the NFC inside) Should still work for file transfers for developers she said.
Hope that helps everyone out. I know I will be buying one regardless..

Edit:

Maybe I should try and find one of the MFQ's out there and have them start making them. Maybe even a better version.

WOW! That is a ridiculous amount of money - especially missing nfc (which is reprogrammable anyway). Just need to wait for cheap knock off versions (kinda surprised there are none yet; seem easy enough to make)
Realistically, don't break the original. You could wear it but that would make it prone to being destroyed.
I'm going to be super careful with mine now by placing it in my sock drawer.
Someone posted this link in another charger thread:

IMHO the charger design itself is flawed. They should have put the USB on the other side by the door hinge. That would make it far safer from damaging the charging unit. Beta tester #fail.
When my wireless charging pad and S-View Wireless Cover for my Note 3 arrives, I will be making my own Gear charger - it will be a stand-type holder for the watch. Essentially a modified open-faced charging cradle on a pedestal type stand so you can just 'hang' the watch on it instead of having to 'clamp' it in each time.
The watch is too light to sit in place correctly, but I'm working with a friend to modify the base and the pins to ensure a positive connection without risk of scratching the watch.
$30 for a cradle is ridiculous. I hope that information is incorrect. The maximum price I would consider reasonable would be $15.
Anyone know anybody that has a 3 - D printer? Be nice if we had the files and could just print one out ourselves and add the guts. I know some printing places now have 3 - D printers and will print whatever you need. I know when I win the lottery (yea right!) I want a printer.

360 cam will fetch more $.
Charger and card are more useful. Wish they offered better headphones as an option.
Going with the 360 camera. I have always wanted to use one but I couldn't justify the cost. I already have several fast wireless chargers and a 200gb micro SD card.
I already have a 256 sd from the n7 but im going to get the sd and wireless charger. Most people who will get the camera will get it to resell which in turn will drop the value. meaning you cant sell it for as much.

The resale price already dropped from the S8/S8+ deal. Has nothing to do with the MSRP. I resold the one I got from buying my S8+ and that was when ebay was flooded with them.
It will only drop so much since people actually want the cam.
It's still worth more than the card and charger even with a flooded market.
I would never actually end up using the 360 camera, however I could definitely use a wireless charger and some free memory..
Micro SD card and charger, I have no interest in the camera. I just wish there was a watch available like they offered with the Note 7. Last year I chose the 256GB Micro SD. But, I can always use more memory.
lol, everybody trying to justify why this or that.
i bought the VR setup for the note8 and the 360 cam will come in handy. im a camera op and this tech is right up my alley.
i already have the 256 (2017 edition) samsung evo and i haev a 50 dollar fast charge sammy charger, so for me the camera was ideal!
Don't care about the camera and I would never actually use it. I will definitely use the charger. I'll just set it on my desk at work and keep my phone topped off all day. I can finally get rid of the charging cord plugged into my computer and the cheap plastic phone stand.
I wish that they were giving away a Gear 3 watch with the phone. I'd jump at that in a second.
I took the SD card and charger. the the charger was useful, and it's harder to find a legit card that's not fake on the market after all of this.. the camera would prolly flood the market like crazy bring price pretty low if i wanted to buy one .

And yeah I can see it's official I just meant it discouraged me seeing other fakes around of the same product
(There are replica's around that instead of being branded "CHOETECH" are branded "Fast Charge")

Yeah. I got a free one (and was genuinely impressed). The cables were good quality too.

How was it? charge fast as original?
I just got the shipping notice that my free Samsung wireless charger was delivered today. Cannot wait to try it out as I have seen a ton of good stuff written about it. Will let you all know what I think.
Got my Samsung Wireless charger set up yesterday and it works amazing. I love being able to switch from a flat to a cradle setup and have not had a single issue with the charger finding the phone, even with the Spiegen Neo Hybrid case (which I love btw) on the phone. This is my first foray into wireless charging and I am already wondering why I waited so long.

Yes it does . I'm pleased with it. Times all seem the same as Samsung one.

Have you guys noticed wireless charging gets your phone hotter than cable charging?

It will do. As your using an induction coil to charge.

I got one for free but it doesn't work with an OtterBox Defender charger so I literally never used it.

I've wondered if this heat will reduce battery life over time or not.

Hi everyone
Just to let you know that Note 8 Preorder claims for the Dex Dock are being handled now. Mine has just been approved and I have been given a time up to 30 days to receive my Dex.
Too bad this wasn't in the US. Didn't really need the wireless charger/128GB SD card I got, really didn't need a gear 360 camera.

Here is my history
1 is claim sent
2 is claim approved
3 is dex delivered
I wasn't told the dex was on its way apart from the second text, it came and then a few hours later I got the last text.

That's interesting - it looks like I'm about 5 working hours behind you on the first two, but I haven't received the third yet.

Lol I have a 128gb and wireless charger I got with mine. Shame you aren't closer. I'd trade you but shipping would likely make it not worth it.
I already have a 256gb in mine along with 2x Youshare fast chargers!

I got my Dex and I'll definitely be using it. Need to get a new monitor though as this one doesn't have HDMI
