My VZW Note 8 is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
A year ago, when I got my Note 7, I had some issues activating it. I'm not sure whether it was because I swapped in the SIM from my HTC One M8, or the fact that I was at our vacation home and connected to VZW's network through a network extender that doesn't support LTE. I had similar issues when switching to the S7E that replaced my Note 7 after the recall.
The Note 8 is of course arriving with a new SIM, and I'll be activating it in an area with actual LTE service. Will it be easier to activate using the new SIM, or am I better off swapping in the one from my S7E?
Thanks ...
You should be able to insert your current sim, set up the phone , then done. Whenever I get a new phone, I just slide in the sim card from the old one and go.
what carrier do you have? last year my t mobile note 7 was having issues dropping mobile data, tried a new sim card and didn't make a difference. the issue was fixed with the next software update before the 2nd recall. my sim worked fine in the s7e I had. if your sim card works fine in your s7e, I would just re use it. you can always activate the new sim if you have issues but you shouldn't

I'm on Verizon. I wasn't sure whether last year's issues were related to the SIM swap or the network extender. I think I'll just go with the new SIM this year.

I have purchase this guy back in March of 2010 and received the PB99110. I didn't have data service back then and never had up until a few weeks ago. Before I was on AT&T until April this year. I switched to T-Mobile because they were cheaper and was shown coverage was good enough in my area. I switched over to them and well, both my wifes Galaxy Note and my phone could hardly get a voice connection. I eventually switched over to StraightTalk with using an AT&T SIM that ST provided.
I for the life of me cannot get any form of data connection on this phone. I swapped SIMS between my works iPhone 3GS and data works on it. Putting my works SIM in my Nexus One still doesn't get 3G nor Edge. I've updated the APN settings for AT&T and tried the ones for Straight Talk. I have also tried using the APN that my SIM wants to use.
Currently using CyanogenMod-7.2.0-passion and I have tried to flash to factory as well. Still no data =/
I'm running out of ideas here. Help, please!
Hi,
I am a newbie here, so bear with me
After much research and trying to understand what each model was, i bought a moto x (1st gen) developpper edition unlocked.
It is supposed to be new. has the white back and the black front.
I am using it with ultra mobile. Got the sim cut to nano size with a punchout tool.
Thing is the sim goes undetected.. the phone does not get a signal (although I think it can detect networks). but shows the sim undetected icon in the top.
The sim has been checked and works perfectly fine in several different devices.
What am i missing here?
While I did not realize the seller listing did not list GSM as a feature, it does list the following:
3G UMTS bands: 850/900/ AWS/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (B5/B8/B4/B2/B1)
4G LTE bands:700/AWS/1900MHz (B17/B4/B2), Wi-Fi: 802.11a/g/b/n/ac (dual band capable), mobile hotspot
From what you mentioned you definitely have the GSM version. No worries there. The developer version, besides being half Oreo, will also say Developer Edition on the back.
Not that any of that matters for your problem. A sim undetected issue is between sim and phone, the network is not involved yet.

Did you check the sim after you cut it to nano or before? Make sure it works in another phone in it's nano form (no putting it back in the cutout). You'll need another phone that uses nano sim.
An improperly cut sim will have issues. If sim is the problem easy fix just replace it.
If sim checks out then check your phone with another nano sim to make sure it's not just that one sim it doesn't like. if it's the same result then you might have a hardware issue.
Yes, thanks I checked the sim in other devices, it worked totally fine.
Thanks so much for your reply..So i received the cutter i had ordered and we did a last ditch effort, using it to make sure the sim got cut properly.. Surprise it worked! Phone is good to go and completely working.
This was simply an issue of the sim not being cut properly
(I posted this in both the T-Mobile Note 3 and AT&T Note 3 forum)
So, every once in a while it will connect to the T-Mobile/MetroPCS (I have MetroPCS but since MetroPCS uses T-Mobile Towers, it (SHOULD) work and has in the past)
On my Samsung Galaxy Core Prime that I bought from the MetroPCS Store, it works absolutely perfectly.
It always is connected to the T-Mobile network.
But this phone, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (AT&T -- BUT I flashed Alliance Rom for T-Mobile, so it has a T-Mobile ROM) will not connect. As I've said before, if I get it at the right time, which is completely unpredictable and restart my phone it will connect but 10 minutes later it will disconnect and tell me "Selected Network (T-Mobile) is Unavailable"
Before, when I had the stock ROM (Lolipop AT&T) it did the same thing Except when it disconnected it would tell me "Phone not allowed MM#6"
The IMEI is valid and not blocked.
I do have service
I manually set the carrier to T-Mobile and also quick note when I click "Search networks" it only gives me T-Mobile, AT&T and Virizon (But it does only these three on my Core Prime too)
This phone IS UNLOCKED
and my Sim card is also Unlocked
And also, I have tested another Samsung Galaxy Core Prime's Sim card with this phone ( I have this phone, and one of my family members does too and also has MetroPCS )
It did the same thing
THOUGH when I tested with my other family members Cricket SIM card, it worked Perfectly!
Cricket, uses AT&T Towers from what I remember. So this makes me think that the phone, since it is AT&T it will connect to AT&T over everything else no mattter what I do. So,
Do any of you think buying a T-Mobile varient of this phone (Note 3) would fix the problem? Instead of this AT&T varient?
I also tested this with a Blu Studio Energy 2 (It is not carrier specified) and had the same problem. It would work but sometimes it wouldn't and there was no way to guarentee it not disconnecting, and no way to put it back on the network that I knew of it just happened at random
If I put my sim card in my Core Prime, turn it on then turn it off and put it in my Note 3, it will connect for a couple seconds.
ANY HELP -- Would be appreciated.
I fixed this by myself.
I didn't realize this, but you need to call MetroPCS and add your new phone's IMEI.
Hi guys,
My toy is a samsung note N 9600 and its factory unlocked. Last week ported out from T-mobile to keep my original number and facing a wried issue.
The day I ported out from T-mobile, VZW network couldnt be recognized when I tried to activate the VZW sim card. "No network connection." and no call or text can be made. However, after I RESET my device to factory model, it SUCCESSFULLY recognized VZW and LTE function works well. Sounds wried? The story doesnt end here.
Yesterday after I turned off the VZW sim card by accident-- n9600 is a dual sim card which allows you to turn either sim card off-- the network connection lost again, im not talking about LTE connection, but all network service including internet, phone call and text function. Tried a lot to get the connection back but failed. Guess what? RESET, THEN VZW comes back!!! Being driven by curiosity, I turned off the sim card agian, and then, as my expect, no network connection. Ok, rest---works---turning off sim card---no connection---reset……
I am really annoyed by this and have no idea why it is. So if anyone of you have clue of it, plz let me know. Thank you in advance!
Teddy
No one experienced same issue before?
I'm with ATT. And I found out I have an issue with my SIM card. I'm not receiving text messages. I switched Sims with my wife and my xz1c receives messages. I went to the ATT store and they gave me a new sim but when I tried activation they said my phone is 3g based and they couldn't activate my sim on the spot. They had to put in an ATT work order and wait and see. Anyone have a similar issue? I think it's a ploy to get me to buy a new phone they were offering too.
