So my mom has been complaining about her Z1 Touchscreen not being responsive, it's original, it has never been touched.
I took the phone for a few tests and analyzed it myself, it's not really the touchscreen, the phone is reaching freaking high temperatures about 83ºc just hitting the camera button a few times, the heat spreads through the screen and makes it unresponsive.
Software:
It's running a completely stock and completely de-bloated 5.1.1 Sony rom, I removed all the bloatware inlcuding the massive set of Google Apps leaving only the essential and clean Sony/Google Apps along with the system services.
Example of stuff I removed: What's New, Gameloft Games, Tetris, Google Play Banca...
There is absolutely nothing draining the battery or running in background that could cause this issue:

That's right, about 24 hours powered on after a cold boot on standby.
Hardware:
This phone is getting old, I purchased it in December 2013, a year ago the battery would die at around 67%, I found a Z1 with a shattered screen and back plus bad ESN on eBay for cheap, swapped the batteries and everything got back to normal, didn't care too much about water isolation because no one would swim with this phone.
So looking at the following picture, the chip to the right, I assume it's the main SoC, the Snapdragon 801, the one that's hitting high temperatures for relatively very low workloads.
Solution:
Can this heatspreader be taken off like on the LG G3? If yes, would help if I added thermal paste to it?
Maybe add some copper tapes around to spread the heat better?
Some heat insulation between the motherboard and the screen?
Any ideas?
Thanks.

It's definitely a Hardware issue. (restore from TWRP on another z1 makes no issues)
But don't know If it's possible to renew the thermal paste.

Hello everyone,
Last week i installed a 3rd party battery (celly) in my kaiser and since then it looks like my kaiser is much faster now, and my phone disn't crash since then! With the old battery the phone crashed about 4 times a week. The startup time of the phone is two times as fast as before!

What is the power rating of the battery? My guess is that it must be one of the new super high powered batteries and the result of the extra juice is that you now have a super phone. Congrats!
What Battery?

Reminds me of a time, back in the mid 90's when I was still carrying a pager,
I had issues with it just "freaking out" and displaying garbage. Took it back to the store, and some 19 something girl told me it was because I was using an
alkaline battery, I needed to use a regular battery. I just laughed and said
honey, I've been in electronics longer than you've been alive. Just go behind the curtain and get me another one, ok? She just looked at me like "well that's what they told me to say". Needless to say, I got a new pager, problem solved.
Perhaps there was something wrong with you old battery that caused the ohone to perform funny.... Just a thought.
Battery specs
I still swear by the fact that it is working faster than before. The installed battery has the following specs:
Manufacturer: Celly
Product: BLTYTNII
Battery type: Li-ion
Voltage: 3.7 volts 1100mAh
Show some benchmarks or I won't believe you.
is there a battery with working 2d drivers too?
If yes i'll take one

Hmm, the default one that comes with the phone is a 1350mAh, the one you purchased seems to be less powerful.
Hi,
I trade out for an Eken M003 8" tablet running 1.6 on it. I can not stand it as of right now. I decided to do a tear down of it to see if it was indeed able to be upgraded. I have search all of the world wide web for anything on this, and so far I have found barely anything. I will be adding Pictures tomorrow.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this device, other than it is cheap? It has a wm8505 Chipset in it and a small ram chip as well. I am not advanced in the Hardware side of things, but I do like tearing apart..lol. I tried Wondermedia, and Via to try and buy another chipset for it, but I cant find one. Hell even if I can desolder the ram, I cant find anything to get back on it. One question I have is does the WM8505 chip actually contain the O.S. on it? If so what would happen if I did indeed replace it with a blank chip? Could I put an operating system of my choosing on it then? What if I increase ram from 128-1g? Lots of questions, and the only site I can find is Slatedroid, but it is non operational. I have a rooted Nexus and it is faster that this POS. I dont care what really happens to it, I just want to experiment. Any suggestions?

I just found tw6805 on everbuying.com,but i don't know whether it agree with yours.
The problem with these things is that, they are so cheap.... you cannot expect support. I really don't see the purpose of an Android tablet if you have an Android phone or a PC/Tablet PC
I agree about cheap, I didnt pay anything for it, I traded out something I didnt want for it. Really just wanting to try and upgrade it and see just how fast it is. I have a Nexus One that I love, and it is faster than this thing by far. Would be cool to stick in 1g memory, and 1ghz processor. Then I just have to learn how to port custom rom on it, and instant Bathroom fantastica!

There are 2 crews at the bottom, and an additional 2 screws under the bezel on the left and right side. Then just pop the tabs, and there you go!
Great! Thank you.
My M003 has got a very strange issue: if you push back the sim-like cpu card the display stop garbaging. If you leave it alone, all images are scrambled!
I was trying to glue the sim but is a no go...
In the meantime I broke the touch screen
Then... game over.

I dont understand what you are talking about with the glue. What sim-like cpu chip? The only removable thing on the board is the wm8505 chipset. It looks like a piece of Laptop Memory. Should have two silver clips on the board that it snaps into, and should be about 3 inches by 1.5 inches. do you have a pic of the part? also you can get another screen.
yes, the sodimm like card with the chipset.
if I push it, the screen is clean, if I leave it alone the screen is garbaged
I suppose that the problem must be related to wm chip itself (bad balls) or to the sodimm connector.
any suggestion?
ah! I just bought off ebay a touchscreen replacement for 15$ shipped.

i HOPE THAT WORKS FOR YOU, iF NOT SEND ME A PIC OF IT. Soldering is really easy though. If that is the problem, Also could be in the clips on the side. If you pulled out the chipset without first unclipping it, then it will not hold correctly.

after some browsing, or benchmark (when the phone is warming a bit)

I don't find this is a good product from LG.
I hope this is not usual...but personally I'm disappointed :crying:
Looks like the glue spot issues the One X had/still has...
It's to do with how the screen is glued to the LCD.
I really cba going through issues similar to the One X's launch again, that device had a horrendous hardware launch.
Are you in Europe and did you buy this from an EU carrier? If so, it would seem that LG diverted units from Google to go to other vendors. Google actually had to cancel announced plans to sell the Nexus 4 via Playstore in the Netherlands and Belgium at the very last minute because LG couldn't deliver units. I suspect LG's reputation isn't going to be helped by the disastrous launch of this phone. Google deserves to share the criticism too. (There's a rumor that LG delivered only 5,000 units to Google, but then rumors aren't substantiated and it may well be false. However, the UK Playstore sold out in under an hour and the US Playstore was sold out in under a half and hour so it sounds like there weren't a lot of phones available.)
Yeah this definitely looks like the issue that one x had with their launch. Not good!
Christ almighty, this phone is Frankenstein resurrected. How many things went wrong/are wrong again!? I can't keep track anymore. Worst f-cking phone EVER. Sucks it looks so good though.

If you press down on the screen (on the yellow patch as if reviving a dead pixel), does the yellow patch disfigure? Could be some glue that hasn't set in properly yet...leave it overnight and see if it disappears
Well, if it's after the benchmarks, it means it either got so hot that physically damaged lcd, or just helped glue to evaporate faster than it should. I suggest not pushing it for the first few days cpu wise, let everything dry out as much as possible naturally.

On the section 3.5 of Screen section of the French review from frandroid.com here :
http://www.frandroid.com/test/116648_test-du-nexus-4/2/#3
You can see photos of the yellow tint. The text translated from French :
"After some testing, we noticed a weird behavior of the screen on a white background. A blue light escapes from the top of the screen. Moreover, a yellow spot appears. It's sometimes difficult to notice at first sight. Knowing the hardware we have is final, this is very worrisome."
I think it's the same like sony xperia-s screen.

Just call Google support.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I don't know of anywhere else.
A while ago I did a DIY repair on an LG G2 VS980 to replace a cracked digitizer. Apparently, I also massacred the battery.
Recently, I took the phone back out and bought a full frame+LCD assembly instead of going through the pain of taping my screen to the frame because of missing adhesive.
Since I bought a full frame, I need to take the battery out of the old one to move it into the new one. I noticed before that the battery had a strange lump toward the top. I was hoping it was just a bend, but it feels kind of stiff and I don't want to risk trying to adjust it if it's actually some sort of bubble.
Taking the battery out (with a credit card), I noticed that the back was all dented up with screwdriver marks, and it felt like it had air under the metal lining. (I have no idea what I did, but it obviously wasn't good ).
There are a few images below of the battery below. Is it salvageable, or do I need to buy a new one?

Hi,
If the battery fits in , then you can use it for atleast no more than a year before you decide to replace one.
BTW, do you think your battery is losing its capacity? If you dont feel it does, then keep using it.

The battery seems to be working OK. I haven't actually tested it, since the screen is broken. I just know that it charges and holds a charge for longer than 5 hours.
I really just want to know if it's safe to use; if I can flatten that bulge out without having battery acid fly everywhere and then use the battery without the same happening.

I would suggest to install the battery as it is, not to try to flatten it, and check how long it hold charges with a complete charge ..

Hello dear XDA friends, Although I don't post a lot I still love you all .
Anyway, I am really tempted to get a Mate S ($/€319) after my LG G3's screen basically broke in half, the battery exploded and the touchscreen only working 10%, it's basically useless right now and I need a phone to replace it for a while until I decide what's going to be my ''real'' phone (I hate Apple but the 7+ Camera is amazing but then again maybe note 7 refurbs will be cheap.) So yeah I need to bridge the gap and I want to gift it to a relative when I'm done with it.
So is it worth it for 300 bucks?
Hi,
I have the phone since 3 months now (rooted and latest rom version) and it is in overall very good but the battery. Screen is very great but although there are a good device manager, it doesn't stand a full day without reloading.
Also you can see from the different posts that this phone is not very popular among Android's cooks. So not a lot of answers and not a lot of tricks and tweaks. I regret the time I had a Nexus 4 where community was very active. Anyway, as I am really focused on battery life, this is the real flaw of this phone for me. But I guess there are not many phones that could do better.

What's the longest screen on time you got?
It actually depends what you gonna do with this phone.
I own it for last 8 months never really felt need for better battery during normal usage.
My typical usage with all the time brightness at auto and slider at max ( which on huawei even when inside usually means 80-90% brightness ) and outside always even when is dim day is 100% or boosted screen mode ends up with average 4:30-5h SOT with around 18-20hrs on battery. This is with about 60% wifi 40% 3g.
This includes bunch of social apps, youtube , music, calls, sms, light gaming of around 1hr per day.
The great thing about this phone is its soc and screen, the to S-amoled it never gets hot thus for it doesn't drain battery life fast like snapdragon devices.
Biggest fall of this soc is its GPU it isn't as good for heavy games like s810 devices for example.
If you're not a gamer I highly suggest this phone. If you have more money I suggest p9+, its a beast in all regards.
Here my current battery life stats

As you can see, I charged my phone and unplugged at 00.14. Wi-Fi off and no mobile data, no screen on. No apps running apart from home launcher and myProfile. All others are greenified. So in around 8h sleep it decreased by 20%.
I tried many tricks and I consider myself skilful for this (my LG G2 could last 3 days) but cannot do better with this one. The ROM is not good enough yet and update frequency is not good.
Got the LG G4 so this one can be closed
