Faulty 4gb Micro? or phone?

I recently sold my Sandisk 2gb micro and bought a Sandisk 4gb micro. From time to time my stuff on the card get deleted. Since I bought it (3-4 days ago) I have had to reload everyone 4-5x. Has anyone experience this problem?
I'm using the rom that came with the Tilt when it first came out.
Are you using the card outside of the phone on any PC?
If you are, you may need to update the drivers on your PC.
Any SD card above 1Gb requires a new formatting technique as the filing system is different.
Writing to a card on a PC with old SD card drivers can cause file allocation corruption and sometimes you will even lose access to the card completely.
Check out your card maufacturers website or any others (Toshiba, Sandisk etc.) and download any OEM driver updates or new formatting utility they have for you PC.
Failing that, only tranfer data to the card via Activesync (I know its a pain!) after formatting the card on the phone.

That does not mean a great deal! It is only providing a USB link to the SD. If you use the Windows file system to access that card without it having the latest SD file system updates loaded on your PC it will not work correctly.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to sound fussy here but did you get a driver CD with the adapter? Most people don't bother updating the drivers if their computer recognises the device to start with.
Only trying to be helpful.

Hi, no I did not received a driver cd for it. I'm gonna go search for a new driver online.
EDIT: Went to the Sandisk site and they do not have an driver update for this device. Sandisk Micromate SDDR-113
that happened when i installed my 6gb microsd(I transfered files from 2gb microsd to 6 gb). Things started to dissapear but not delete(available memory space didn't go up). You need to reformat the card, and redo everything for it to fix

Yeah weird right. I realize my card was blank but it came out that 1.3gb were being use. I just reformat my card, hopefully this won't happen again.

Win32 Disk Imager error

I'm receiving the following error when trying to use Win32 disk imager to make a backup copy (read) of my Micro SD card with nookie installed:
"An error occurred when trying to get the devices geometry. Error 8:".
I've done a bit of searching on this but can't find anything. Anybody have any ideas?
Is there a good alternate?

Man it took me HOURS to figure it out. I had the EXACT SAME problem (when trying to copy the auto-nooter img to my sd card).
I think what finally worked was:
*make SURE you open and run as Administrator (right click on the Disk Imager and select Run as Administrator)
*AND after you've selected the the sd card drive GET OUT OF IT. Click on any other drive or close that explorer window all together.
I hope this helps. I feel your pain.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I'm paranoid now though, as I removed my nookie froyo on SD and I lost all of my applications. I guess I'm supposed to do a save to SD card, right?

I think in your original post you are just trying to backup your sd card, right?
I've done that with my NC and my Evo and every time all I do is huck up via usb, open the drive, create a folder in my C drive (Nook, Evo), and then copy, paste. I then transfer most things to an external HD.
So to backup your sd card all you have to do is copy and paste it somewhere else. DON'T wipe it if you have things saved on there that you need to have run off your NC.
The problem with the nookie use is that your card doesn't show up as a mountable drive under windows. You have to use something like dropbox.
Hold on, I hate to admit this, but I mixed up the SD cards when I pulled them out. I have 2; one of which I had a vanilla image of nookie on. The right one (the one I spent hours on), is fine. Doh.
So you are all good and set to go?
if possible use ubuntu for this (you can do it from a live cd)
i had nothing but issues with windows and win32diskimager and burning sd cards (p.s. windows has no good sd card partitioners that im aware of)
dd is the best way to burn the image, and you can use gparted (if installed) to recover the sd after your done (if your like me and burn sd cards like its no body's business (its not))

Yes. I'm going to transfer this image to my new class 10, and then use this card to put Honeycomb on...

Under Windows, use EASEUS Partition Manager, currently on version 7.01. Free for home use. You can resize partitions or remove them all to reuse the card for another image or whatever. Also, Win32DiskImager is on 0.2-r23-win32. It will restore or create backups just fine. Both are fine for working with Honeycomb and Froyo images.
Mounting the partitions is another issue. I haven't dabbled in Cygwin, never could get it working right. Best use Ubuntu for that, I've got the Netbook edition of 10.10 dual booting with Win 7 x64, long story.
Homer
New error:
"An error occurred when attempting to read data from handle error 8:"
This is nuts. Windows 7x64, run as admin, not in any folder, antivirus off, and carbonite off (who knows). Ideas?
Oh, it always seems to get to 49%. Plenty of disk space free too.
Nooke Color, have 8gig brand new card, win32 imager won't find auto nooter 2.12.25
Hi all, i have searched some Q&A on Nookdevs, and LaunchPad, and via code.google nooter project hosting while first trying to root via instructions on Techrepub, which are very detailed, and seemed very simple.
I cannot get past the step of writing the file to my card. It's a brand new 8 gb card, and i'm hooking it up to my laptop (which has WIN 7) via a Dynex sd card reader/ writer. The win32 writer software is unzipped ok, and i open it, and it will find the auto nooter file (which i also unzipped ok) which is on the sd card (windows recognizes the reader as drive H, but when i add drive H: from the dropdown selection for the drive, and then click "Write" button, i get a pop up error that the software cannot locate this file. The only real similar issue i've seen while all my searching is the "Error 8" thing which this is not.
*Edit to original; trying this on another PC was all it needed. I guess Dell failed me, haha.
Try a different usb port or sd card reader? Not all of them are the same. Some work reliably and some are terrible...
Reader may be the issue?
I can return the card reader. I think this is the only option since i've gotten nowhere. Too bad best buy only carries one. Anyone suggest a brand name that works?
yes, i've tried the other usb ports. I am trying a different computer today to check.
thanks much.

Okay I had the same issue... couldn't get diskimager to work. Several people said use ubuntu live cd... didn't want to. So I found a version of DD that works on windows. I've posted very little so can't post links but a google search for "DD for windows" will find it... it's hosted on chrysocome dot net
If you've used unix dd it's simular and it worked for me.
Hope this helps as an alternative!
Quick fix for error #8
Hey guys!
All you need to do is download Panasonic SD Card Formatter 2.0. Do a quick format, and it will work for you.
If you are getting error 8, it is most likely you used the SD card for an image previously and the partitions are goofed on it.
Panasonic SD Card Formatter 2.0 fixes that.
Hope this helps!
I had that same error 8 on Win32 Disk Imager, so I ran the SD formatter as suggested.
It was smart enough to tell me that the card was write protected.
I pulled out the card, and sure enough... DOH!
The card and adapter were brand new, so I never thought of it myself.
The disk imager worked fine with it after I slid that little switch on the adapter.
thank you, run as worked for me.
That Fixed It
I downloaded the following and got similar results.
1st -SDFormatter v. 3.0
2nd-Win32DiskImager (oldest image I could find from launchpad) It worked like a charm.
I also used an old 2 gig microSD from an old cellphone with the 1 gig_clockworks3.0.2.8 image file. I could have used the 2 gig file, however, I wanted to make sure it would fit under my 1.83 gig threshold recognized by windows 7. Go Figure!!!
You guys really saved me on this one. Reading through the forum for about 3 hour straight came in handy.
Hi everyone!
I am brand new here and having trouble with Win32diskimager as well. I get the Error 8 every time I try to lauch the win32diskimager.exe file. (I've even tried the older versions, same thing.)
I tried running the SDformatter as well & that didn't seem to help.
Write protection is off.
I tried all the suggestions I've discovered searching for that error. Any ideas what I am doing wrong???
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Make sure you have the correct device selected

You probably checked this, but I get this error when I have the wrong device (drive letter) selected for writing. It took me about a half hour searching for answers until I noticed I didn't choose the correct drive where my SD card was inserted. Once you see that, it's obvious, but the obscure error message was deceiving.
Good luck.

Micro SD Help

I just got my class 10 micro SD in the mail today and want to swap out my old one. Is the process as easy as copying everything over to the new card, or is there something else I need to do? Also, when I plug my Nook into my pc, I get two drives. One is a removeable disk, the other is mynookcolor. So yeah, now Im really confused. My rom is installed on the internal memory.

If your running off of EMMC then it's pretty simple if the Old card is just 1 big fat32 partition with normal Android data files and other things. I reccomend using a seperate card reader however. Now just Plug the Old card into your PC and copy all of the files to a Folder on said PC. Now plugin New card in and copy the files to the New Card. Enjoy.

Done. What was throwing me off was the partition the system automatically creates. I wasnt sure if I needed to copy that as well. Once I popped the new card in it automatically created those files. Everything is good. Time to test speeds.
Thanks!

[Q] Guide Request

Could someone point me toward a guide that include the step by step instructions on how to reformat your microSD card after a CWM image has been burnt onto it to get it back to it's original size/recognizable in the Nook/PC.
This to me is the most frustrating part of loading ROMs on the Nook and I don't believe it's laid out step by step in any guides. They simply leave it at downloading a partition manager software tool, but not what do to within that tool.
Thanks!
I would actually recommend just buying a cheap card that you use just for flashing images. Rather than backing up, image burning, then reformatting your card each time you want to do something in CWM, spend the $6 online and buy a cheap 2GB card that you use only for this purpose. I know it isn't required, but I still use a bootable SD card with CWM recovery on it to flash new nightlies or really anything else.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but it is my solution to this problem.
While I agree you should consider a new card in case things ever go south, you should be able to put it into a card reader and format it with Windows. You can also wait until the NC is booted up and then insert the card and format it with the NC.
I actually do have a dedicated cheap card with CWM loaded on it. The problem I ran into this time was that someone had approached me with a stock nook wanting a ROM loaded onto it. So I needed yet another card to burn a root image onto. So I was stuck having to burn that image on an 8GB not so cheap card and then could never get it back to 8GB or recognizable in my PC/Nook by using various software packages.
It also causes all sorts of FCs when inserted into the Nook running MIUI. Once it's removed they go away.
Regardless, if anyone knows of a guide or the steps to doing so that actually works, it would be appreciated and I have to imagine I'm not the only one who runs into this extremely frustrating issue.
i could be wrong
but cant you boot into default nook, not booting off the microSD card and reformat the microSD card?
even if you rooted/formatted the built-in memory for android/cm7 over the nook color OS, you should be able to format the card.
the other question that i have the the OP
have you tried to access the card from all os (win, mac, linux) both through a usb adapter and through the nook directly connected to the pc/mac?
I have not had that issue with either a USB card reader or with the Nook. Do you have access to a camera that uses micro SDHC cards? You can usually format it there as well. After that, Windows should recognize the card in a reader and let you delete any folders the camera placed on it.

I think we need a little more information about what you are trying to achieve?
If you are looking to get your uSD back to its "fresh off the rack from the store" state, the easiest thing to do would be to just use your NC to reformat the card from within it's "Settings" area.
But, if you have loaded CM7 (or whichever ROM) onto the eMMC of your nook, then you would need to use Android's tools to do this.
When using an imaging tool to prepare the uSD, I would recommend Image Writer for Windows to write your ROM images to the uSD. It is pretty easy to use, and way better than WinImage. Use the 0.3 (Lost) release.
In my case, I just used verygreens solution of installing CM7 to my uSD, it is a one time set up and I only have to drop new nightlies onto the /boot partition whenever I want to upgrade (which is everytime a new nightly comes out, heh). I never take my uSD out of the NC anymore.
If you are looking to repartition your uSD card to get a bigger /boot partition so you can rest assured that the bigger nightlies will fit (essential if you have alternate image and ramdisk files for the alternate boot scenario), then I would follow this post in verygreen's guide.
In response to some of the questions, I am trying to get my SD card back to off the shelf so it can be used in the Nook for storage.
I have not tried on another OS to format the card. I only have Windows XP on my laptop. I could try on my Windows 7 desktop but would be very surprised if that solves the issue. I cannot see it when it is plugged in via USB adapter to my PC.
I have MIUI 1.7.22 ROM loaded on the eMMC of my Nook and using Android's format option does not work as it is greyed out.
Nothing recognizes it except for Easus Partition Manager, but I've tried everything under the sun (Deleting Partition/Wiping Partition/Assigning Drive Letter/Increasing size) and can't get it to return to a usable state.

In Android, I think you have to unmount the uSD before you can "erase" it (thus effectively re-formating it to it's maximum size).
I would do it this way if you are able to, because you are guaranteed a uSD card that Android will recognize every time. Devices that use removable cards this way know how to properly format them. Desktop OSs treat them as removable media (i.e. like disks/discs) and do not always format them properly using a a USB adapter.
When formating SD/uSD cards on your PC, your best bet is to use an actual card reader that connects to your PC via a USB cable (like the multi-card readers).
Here is a formatting tool specifically for SD/uSD cards from the SD Association website (https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/). Instructions are at their website too.
Incidently, if you have access to a Mac system running OS X, the Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities will also format your uSD and get it back to stock where Win machines have problems. I know this from personal experience.
Here is another thread, Read All About it: WP7 SD-card format working., with more formatting info that may or may not be helpful...
Short of a Mac system, you could install Linux (I recommend Ubuntu currently) in a VirtualBox virtual machine environment and give that a go in your Win7 environment. If you go this route, you also want to install the Extention Pack for USB 2.0 support. Then you end up with a more versatile OS for tinkering around in all within your Win7 evironment....

[Q] HELP SD Problem

Hi guys. So today I created 300mb ext4 partition on my SD card (8GB) with Partition Wizard. I did everything like it was in tutorial, I've got one ext4, 300mb, 4kb clasters and 7700mb FAT32 card. The thing is. After I did it. My PC don't shows me my SD card in "my computer". When I launch Partition Wizard, the drives are still there, but in my PC there is no SD cards. I set it active and gave it a letter (F, but nothing.
After that I inserted other card to my computer and the same thing. My pc don't recognize any SD card, but it recognizes when I launch Partition Wizard.
Can anyone explain me what the hell is happening and how I solve that please?
Windows Problem
HI there,
The problem is that windows is uncapable of reading or writing to superior filesystems than it's own rubbish and unreliable fat32 and ntfs filesystems.
Download any version of linux that you fancy from Distrowatch.org, burn the cd and boot from it.. You may work with it running from the cd and dont even have to install it..
It will let you use your sd card properly.. Youll also have read/write access to your windows disk and files from any major linux live-cd..
I suggest Mint 11 LXDE 64 bit, it comes with everything you need preinstalled including all codecs and flash player..
Youll notice how rubbish windows is if you give it a try.. Your computer will run much faster even running live from the cd.. When installed, it's even faster again..
Did I mention it can't get viruses?
Have fun and good luck,
CtrlAltDel
Thanks, I myself am linux lover. But I can't use it. There is lot of programs I need and Linux does not support them. For example Adobe progs, 3Ds max.
And the last thing that prevents me from using linux is my GPU, I've got two GPUs (hybrid) Intel and nVidia. So when I install linux, it is only intel that I can use. No drivers for nVidia and optimus hybrid system. =(
