so i was making a backup via adb on my computer, after this when i reboot my device it gets stuck on bootscreen, so i restored to a diferent back up, which i was sure had the efs partition but when restoring it sends an error message saying there's no efs folder and finishes the restore.
i get to boot on that back up but i got not signal nor imei, i was sure i checked efs when making this backup because i already used it before and had no problem
it looks like somewhere along the way the efs folder got lost
is there a way to recover it?
please help im using an xt1095 victara with a lineage nightly 14.1 rom and twrp

i thought you could rename the folder of each nandroid backup, but after searching i read that now they might not restore anymore. is this true? i havent tried to restore any of them.
i used the time stamp of each folder to rename them based on the order of first to last because i didnt pay attention that the folder name was actually the date. so i dont know if i named them correctly, i.e. stock rom, cyan #1, etc.
are my restore files now trashed? also i havent done a restore yet cause i wasnt sure how much re-installing i would have to do. what exactly does nandroid restore, is it just the OS and all settings, but no apps? thanks!
Nandroid is basically an image or 'Snapshot' of your phone i.e. everything from your applications to your settings to the bootloader animation. As for renaming them, I think you need to keep the same folder structure but you can rename the 'BDES-20100430-1259' part to something more user-friendly.

Wait it grabs everything including apps, OS settings, even my desire black notification bar, etc?
I'm totally noob so I wanna do my first restore but don't know what if anything I'll lose and if its worth it to even restore. I'm wondering how feasible it is to bounce around between nanDroid backups and I always hear about titanium backup but don't understand the difference and why to use that or just the recovery. Thanks
I rename my nandroid backup folders on a regular basis, so I can quickly find a backup for any stage of modification I'd like to go back to. ORIGINAL, CYAN-506-BARE, CYAN-506-LOADED, FROYO-BARE, FROYO-LOADED, etc....
And it SHOULD backup everything (well, except for the radio image), and it generally does. I have done a few restores where it misses an app or setting or two but the majority of everything is there.
mine works restoring when renaming folders. i label mine using the rom versions (kang/cyan/etc)
And you don't lose root if you flash back to stock ROM, the one I made right after I first rooted?

If the backup was created while you had root access, then you should still have root access. Those permissions will be copied as a part of the backup.
crap my restore just failed. It said:
Error: run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore ' via adb
Are my backups lost forever? I tried all of them and all gave that error.
That's beyond me. The only time I've had an issue with nandroid backups was when my SD card was close to full. My troubleshooting skills on that are limited, I'm afraid.
I rename all mine according to ROM/kernel...etc and yes nandroid backsup everything to the "T" the way it was when u aplly the backup. You should always keep more than one nandroid on ur card or save them on ur computer. They are known to sometimes not work. It has happened to me.
Ok I'm really having some problems. I just now created another brand new nand backup and didn't rename itand tried to restore it and get the same error. Google has tons of info on this with a million different answers. I tried removing all spaces in my backup name with no luck.

hahaha, ****t codesplice, you and I do it the exact same way!!!
Since I've been playing with different kernels for Froyo, I now have to include the kernel name in my backups.

Make sure your battery has greater than 50% - best if on a full charge.

Hi everyone, I seemed to have found myself in a predicament.
I've been trying to install Kang-o-rama, but when I do, it gets stuck at the boot screen. This is not a problem itself, because last time I just restored a Nandroid backup and my phone would be back to normal. However, I have just tried to restore my backup, and it says:
"Error: run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' via adb!"
I'm not sure why it is saying this or if there is anyway to fix it. I did rename the Nandroid backup folder if that makes a difference?
Thanks in advance, hope you can help
Never mind everyone, it seems that it doesn't like spaces in the nandroid folder names. I renamed them with underscores and it worked just fine.
Got a problem, could anybody please make any sense?
I had 19k sms messages on my SGS+ and I backed them up with SMS Backup & Restore. Everything went fine. Now, after flashing my device to Ultragen v1.7 Rom, I am not able to restore my messages back. When I try to restore, it shows progress screen approx. to 125/15453 and then suddenly disappears. And I am like what the heck?
The same story with Titanium backup, it does not even starts to restoring xml file.
After that I was looking forward to restore sms&mms from nandroid backup, but the fact is, following tutorial about flashing Ultragen v1.7 ROM there was a stupid point of formating card, so my nandroid backup was destroyed.
What's wrong?
Problem solved. Restoring sms from .xml file completly in one row was not possible in one or another way. But restoring manually one by one each thread was possible via SMS Backup & Restore simply "viewing" backuped file and then restoring every thread.
Maybe this helps for somebody.
The long and short -- I now find my Nexus 6 in a boot loop. The device is rooted and I was able to get a TWRP backup made and transferred to my computer.
I need to be able to restore the text messages data -- how do I do that from the TWRP backup?
I have my S6 edge that I'm using now --- and don't want to reload the N6 until I understand the best way to proceed.
Thanks for the help.

Can you get into bootloader mode? Flash TWRP, recover the image? I've just tried a TWRP image in Winrar - no luck, so I guess it's some sort of proprietary format.
You'd need to restore that backup, then use a program like SMS Backup & Restore to backup your text messages. I use this to backup the XML files to a folder on my Google Drive, so I can restore these to my phone (or another phone) as needed.

Yeah -- I thought about that -- but the problem is -- if I restore the backup, then the problem (and I do know what I did) that put me into the boot loop will return as well.
I am hoping there is a way to just restore the text data portion -- or extract it, etc.

As I stated above -- getting into boot loader is no problem / recovery as well. I made the TWRP backup after I started the boot loop. I am hoping there is a way to just restore the text data from the backup -- because if I restore the entire backup, then I'll just be back into the boot loop.

Not that I know of, those files are entire backups of /system, /data, so this guy shows you how to extract /system and /data from TWRP backups: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKqYUPx4VrY
From there you'd have to figure out where the text file/db would be for SMS.
EDIT: Once you do that, this post should help you know what you are looking for.
So it happened i faced this challenge and i found a way to go about so i decided to share.
JUST flash a ROM for your phone.
Create a nandroid backup.
Now place the backup folder you originally wanted to restore in the TWRP Folder the backup just created.
Boot into recovery, then restore and flash your nandroid backup as its suppose to be.
The ROM may not be showing up in the backup folder if the folder serial # doesn't match the phone's serial #?

Yes
Wouldn't it be easier to rename the TWRP backup folder with the corresponding serial # and then restore?

In my case, the serial number was the same because it was still the same phone but anytime i place the backup folder in the serial folder , TWRP couldn't find it and restore , so i backed up a rom and placed it in that backup folder and i was able it find and restore. But with what you said yes that would be easier if your the serial numbers were different or you changed your phone but that wasn't my case.
Weird because I have used TWRP many times before and, when I create a backup, I move the backup to my computer. When I want to restore it, I mount the backup folder in twrp, copy the backup to my N5, and TWRP always finds the backup and restores it. I have used the same procedure with my LG G2, Samsung S4, Samsung S3, and Samsung Note 3.

Exactly , thats how its suppose to be
Not sure why it doesn't always work for your phone.
it happened when i flashed a rom update and decided to go back
