The Z3 compact has a 23M camera. Why when I go to camera settings I only see option for 8M under resolution?

Actually it's 20.7M. Z5 compact has a 23M sensor.
Anyway, did you install any camera mod?

No mods at all phone not rooted either totally stock.

You could try deleting data of Camera, Camera Common and Video (reboot after)

Just done that get the same results

Camera settings - what is the best?

Hi. I am wondering what settings you all prefer using with the camera.
I am on normal mode, 9 megapixel (16:9).
Does the ppicture quality get a little better with 12megapixel (4:3)? Don't see any difference..
So what settings are you guys on?

We can't tell you our settings, cause it's a secret!
No... it purely depends on the conditions. We can tell you that for example superior mode is the best, wouldn't it be that you want to take a night shot, then Normal mode HDR would be better.
I'd say play with the settings and you decide.
I use normal mode HDR: off most of the times.
Sometimes burst.

Haha
I see. Don't see any difference when changing from many different setting. Only noticeable is changing from 9 mp to 12 mp. That is the format size. My eyes are so bad at noticing any difference what so ever.

Underwater Camera Application

Is there an application that locks the screen like MXPlayer or BSplayer, but slide lock, so when we jump into the water camera keeps recording, Otherwise water touches the screen and generally aborts the record.

There should be such a thing but there isn't, it requires a lot of hacking. It's the same thing as being able to use nfc tags while your phone is still locked/screen off. The only disadvantage would be that when your screen is off while you're recording you can't see what you're actually recording.

Image processor for the camera according to what i understood.
Even with unlocked bootloader it should work... I have not got worse pictures than before unlocking..
It is hardware and the Bravia engine as an example is software...

Yeah. It's a piece of hardware, not a software. So it will continue work.
To test, you just need to shoot a photo in a reaaaaaally dark room or outside the night, without any light. (Disable the flash)
Now go to the photo proprieties, look at the ISO... If is 6400 is working.

Dear friend I have unlocked my boot loader and now i'm on custom kernel 108
BionZ shouldn't work for me but with the method you said i can get 6400 iso
I think we should capture pics in room with half light if we get purple noise this means bionZ is not working

My Z1 has locked bootloader, on stock 4.4.4 (.157) Sony Firmware. Whatever I do, the max ISO that I can get is 3200, according to the details of the image. why is it so? Also, as far as I know, only the Z3 has the ability to get ISO 6400.

While using the camera switch mode to 'Manual' (from 'Superior Auto') on top of the camera screen. Now in setings you can choose up to 20.7MP (4:3). This is all considering you are on the stock rom and using Sony camera app (although I'm not sure about 3rd party apps)
