Question, is there a way to make the bootloader not say you've unlocked and flashed different software?
Also, can I just flash the stock boot?
anyone got stock boot img for t-mobile? if so can you send me a link please
Does anyone know if I can run the fasboot command to lock the bootloader after I've flashed this? I need to take mine back in for an exchange.

Yeah, I know the command. I was just wondering if that was all it takes and if it worked. Sorry my question was so vague.

It half-worked for me. During boot-up, it doesn't give me the "unlocked bootloader" warning, but it *does* give me a "The OS installed is different" message. Looks similar, but the text is yellow instead of orange.

I'm trying to get rid of the "your device has loaded a difference operating system". Did you find the way to get the phone back to 100% stock?
First off, wanna give a HUGE THANKS to joemossjr for releasing this package AND for that .bat installer! Long story short, I was about to either claim warranty or Jump! (T-Mobile insurance/upgrade program) due to me trying to hook a USB Thumbdrive in over USB OTG (Kingston 16GB) and then there were slowdowns and app crashes, everywhere... heck it was to the point where I kept getting spammed with android.process.acore keeps crashing messages! Couldn't use many internet apps, no phone calls, and could barely text just to name a few.
I do got a suggestion though: is it possible to have a modified version of the June ROM package on Sprint & T-Mobile to where instead of having the stock boot.img, you can have the modified version with the Magisk root access? That would be great and somewhat of a convenience (YMMV; I used this patched boot.img on the 26.2 version and both system updates & t-mobile visual voicemail setup kept falling flat on its face everytime)
Thanks again, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!

So i keep being prompted to get the new OTA update and whenever i try to download and install it, it reboots goes to the install screen, gets about 1/4 of the way through, says error and then reboots to an update unsuccessful page
After digging around my phone i also noticed it says my software was modified on the status page
But obviously ive never rooted this phone as its pretty much impossible at the moment
Has anyone experienced something similar and found a way to fix it?

I am unable to obtain the moforoot util to do this. When I put in my ID on the moforoot page, it says my device is not supported. I know for a fact the model and current OS on it. Its 5.1 updated already which is probably why the website is rejecting my request to obtain the util.
I do not think the bootloader will allow me to downgrade. If anybody has a solution, please let me know.
Note: Using XT1254 w/ latest 5.1 update from Aug-Sept.

If you want to flash an official update that is greater than or equal to the version you're on now, you don't need mofo. You could use fastboot, rsdlite, Motorola device manager or the Verizon upgrade assistant. The upgrade assistant is probably the easiest way to go. That's the annoying pop up software you get whenever you plug your phone into your computer.

I tried all 3 different options and none of them work. Then I went into Verizon store and asked them to do it and they told me that they don't do that anymore. Only contacts, photos, etc.
The store told me to send it to Motorola for them to do it. I'm sure there is an ISP somewhere or some trick button internally for them to unlock the bootloader, but nobody is saying.
I am out of options, and I am ready to send it to whomever can fix it for me. PM me if you can guarantee to do it and send it back.

Hi, my Nexus is on Android 5.0.1 (LRX22C). I haven't rooted or unlocked the bootloader; everything is totally stock. But I'm unable to successfully install the Android 5.1 OTA update. My phone downloads it, verifies it, then reboots to begin the installation process. After working on the update for a while, I see an error message (with an android on its back and a red "X"). The phone stays on that screen for a while, then eventually reboots without having installed the update. I've tried clearing cache, and it doesn't help. Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, I've sideloaded before with other devices, but I'd like not to have deal with wiping my phone to unlock the bootloader right now. I'd thought that by not rooting or messing with the bootloader, I'd keep things simple and be able to easily apply OTA updates. So I'm very frustrating that this isn't working. Any idea why this might be happening?
Thanks!

No, you do not need to wipe or unlock to sideload. Post #3 in the thread I linked, simple instructions on sideloading.
As for why this is happening, anyone's guess but it could, somehow, have something to do with your device having the T-Mobile Sim and being from Google play.

OK, I'll give it a shot. Thanks! Any idea which OTA I want? I'm guessing it's LMY47M, since I'm on a T-Mobile SIM, even though the device was bought from Google? Need I worry that that build isn't up on Google's "Factory Images for Nexus Devices" page? And is there any risk that installing an update this way will make it more complicated to get OTA updates in the future? (I was hoping that by doing things the official way this time, I could avoid having to monkey around with stuff like this.)
Thanks!

Yes, you want the LRX22C to LMY47M OTA as I said before. No, you don't need to worry about it not being on the images page. Also a no for it affecting your ability to get OTA's in the future. On a Nexus, this is pretty much as official as getting the OTA natively.
OK, an update: got an error installing the update any way I tried, even after a factory reset. Called Google support, and they're replacing the phone for me.
Dear All,
Two days before , I brought the HTC One (32 GB Golden) which on digging the Phone identity came to know the Model no 831C, later after goggling it came to know that I belongs to Sprint Carrier.
On inserting the code of Hardware components, I found few test/s were not passed and worked normally, other issues are TV app is not recognizing the server, Double Tap Screen wake/sleep works depending on its mood, vDM Client error pops up often.
Request all the experts here to please help me out with the Solution as to how can I make it work flawlessly.

1) Which tests didn't pass ?
2) Which ROM are you using ?
3) TV app is discontinued by HTC (HTC suggests "Peel Smart Remote")
4) Double Tap Screen Wake works only when you lift up phone and proximity is not blocked (5 seconds cooldown between trying again).
Double tap status bar sleep is buggy on lollipop (this can be different if you have custom kernel)
5) disable vDM client app to prevent popups (you should also disable other sprint apps like HtcSprintService and Self Service SZ)
First of all, thank you for addressing my query & sorry for delay in revert.
Sir, I do know it’s the Sprint phone, as far your concern on below questions, let me try to answer them as below:
1) Which tests didn't pass?
When I run the all functions test by this code (*#*#3424#*#*) in one of the test the error word in green / red appears on screen
2) Which ROM are you using?
I believe it’s the Custom ROM, which would have be provided by Sprint. Software no is 1.54.651.8
3) TV app is discontinued by HTC (HTC suggests "Peel Smart Remote")
No comments, will try to search the PSR on play store.
4) Double Tap Screen Wake works only when you lift up phone and proximity is not blocked (5 seconds cooldown between trying again).
Will strictly follow next time when I do it.
Double tap status bar sleep is buggy on lollipop (this can be different if you have custom kernel)
Its on Android KK 4.4.2
5) disable vDM client app to prevent popups (you should also disable other sprint apps like HtcSprintService and Self Service SZ)
I didn’t find the option to disable vDM app nor did I found other apps of sprint. May I request you to suggest any alternates for it ?
Now, sir my other query is Is it advisable to flash a latest LP rom (i.e Goggle play edition or the rom developed by Bad boys team here) , also it seems that I am S-ON, because when I enter the bootload screen Power + Vol Down key where three android icon at bottom appears , I read LOCKED at the very top of the screen.
Pl. suggest whether it shall be advisable to do it if so request you to suggest the best ROM which shall run flawless in India.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Regards
Karan
Can somebody help me out with this please.. ??
The snapshots of my device are attached hereby, my only query is, and considering the attached images of device can I flash a Custom ROM on to it? Will that be advisable to do so? Are there the chances to Brick the device.
If the answer according to all the Experts here lies in assertive, which ROM is best, since this is a Sprint Device, I have found on the forum that Badboyz rom shall go flawless with any Sprint device, so may I go ahead with it. I am in India presently so wish that all the apps i.e Remote TV, Radio should run properly.

You need to delete the second and third pictures, there is way to much personal information in there.
The "Locked" at the top of the screen in the bootloader means that the bootloader is locked. If you look directly underneath it you'll see that it says "S-Off". To flash custom recoveries or roms or anything, you need the bootloader unlocked. You can do this using HTCDev, or since you're soff, you can unlock it via adb.
Once you're bootloader is unlocked, you should be set for everything. Flash a custom recovery like Captain Throwback's custom TWRP, get root if you don't have it already, update your firmware, etc. The bad boys xda page has most of this stuff in it.
Note: Your phone is supercid, so you're not limited to just sprint roms.
---------- Post added at 10:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 AM ----------
Also, just wondering what exactly were the tests that failed when you did *#*#3424#*#* ?
Thanks a lot sir, I am grateful to you, I have followed you instruction of deleting the images.
Now, last night I did the Factory Hard reset (P+V-DN keys), it went fine, except the data was erased which I never wanted to be backed up though I was haunting of loosing the Sim Lock, but all went fine.
I have my registration on HTCDEV too, and the process of obtaining the TOKENID should go without any hassles.
Now in pursuant to your advise below, will it still be mandatory to unlock the bootloader ? or I may follow the process of wipe/data and then immediately flash the BB's Rom ?
Further, I stand corrected that all the function tests are passed normally, it was my mistake of not placing the Handset on the plain surface while performing one of the test.
Finally, why the model no in phone identity says 831C, and not M8 - May I request your views on this please?
Thanking you once again for addressing, all you guys are rocking, I am here on this forum since 2008, and needless to say "A Proud Member"
All my Best wishes to MEMBERS.

Yes, you still need to unlock the bootloader. After that you need to flash a custom recovery.
After doing these two you will be able to flash a custom rom, just make sure you follow all the instructions on the BB rom page

I know about these devices that are being sold in India. I bought a used phone on OLX having same model number with the exact similar problems. I assume these devices are development only devices which don't run a final version of software. I have noticed that most of the issues in the phone are software related. Using my development expertise, I was able to fix most of the problems and upgrade the firmware to Lollipop, however I have messed up the radio and was unable to restore the radio firmware to anything that actually works (This phones come with a radio version that can't be obtained from any online source). If you can provide the radio image from your device, I will prepare a flashable zip to upgrade the firmware to Lollipop which would include the modem you provide, along with instructions on how to unlock the device and flash it to get going. Probably this would iron out the issues that you are facing with your device.
To grab the radio image from your device, use the following command from "adb shell" or Terminal Emulator
Code:
$ su
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p20 of=/sdcard/radio.img
You will find a file in the sdcard (Internal) named radio.img. Please upload it and provide me with a link.
I would advice you not to make any changes to the device until I provide you with clear instructions on how to do so. Trust me, I really had a hard time with this phone.
Well thanks indeed for the time you took for replying, Sir are you from India Since the name sounds such ?
Secondly, I am desperately looking to upgrade the Software to Latest 5.02 Lollipop from present Kitkat, my basic requirement is that any ROM to which I flash should at least contain the Stock FM Radio, wherein it should be able to tune in the Indian Radio Station.
Confusing issues which keep me scratching my head is that I have pre installed SuperSU app in it. Also I re checked it via installing the app Root Checker which indicated that my device is Rooted. However as and when I tried my device to restart it in Recovery mode it starts normally after a while , the SuperSU app is not getting started.
Can you help me through please. Favor me with (1) Do I need to unlock the Bootloader ? (2) Do I need to flash the custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM ? (3) suggest best Rom which will working with FM Radio (4) A Layman's User Guide to carry out all the process.
Thank You once again.

YEs, you must unlock it. It won't affect the phone's basic functunalities
(2) Do I need to flash the custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM ?
Yes. I recommend twrp.
(3) suggest best Rom which will working with FM Radio
None for the phone we are using A Layman's User Guide to carry out all the process.

Required advice pl. help somebody
Pl. advise as on which TWRP img file should I take into consideration for flashing, since my boot loader is old one the firmware no 4096, Software no is 1.54.651.8, and its sprint 831C (HTC ONE m8). I yesterday tried with the the latest 2.80 twrp img file but got stuck on "Entering Recovery" Screen, some how could manage to come back by Power+Vol up and when the screen got black then Vol Down which took me to boot-loader and then came back by reseting phone. Now the phone is working normal.
I am desperately looking to install CWM or TWRP , so that can take an nandroid backup of the system file, and later post it for the experts here to update the firmware and fix other issues......
snaps of device are attached here
Request all experts to kindly guide me here on it.
Thanking you in anticipation

Hey everyone!
First posting here, long time reader. So, I just f***** up big time. I tried to install the YT Vanced modules for my X4, realized I had to get rid of the stock YT app first, installed Terminal Debloater and at that point my device stuck during boot. To make things infinitely worse, I then proceeded to re-lock the bootloader cycling through the last commands issued. That was dumb, yeah.
Now I get the "device corrupt" message when I try to boot normally and fastboot won't let me flash again saying I need to enable USB debugging, which I can't because the system won't let me boot.
I have a severe feeling I'm screwed with nobody but myself to blame, but I'm also aware of the godlike knowledge in these boards so... can anyone point me in a direction here? Damn I like that phone and have zero funds for a new one right now :/
I can still get into the Power+Down menu, the stock recovery gets me nowhere though. Oh, and it's the Euro Model, Motorola Moto X4 XT1900-05, running the Oreo OTA update.
Cheers people,
grslbr
You need to flash the original official firmware that came loaded on your device but good luck trying to find a copy of that. With the bootloader locked, you're screwed.
Thanks for answering. Yeah, since I locked the bootloader in my infinite wisdom I think I am screwed for good.
Could Lenovo have some magic tools to re-flash the stock ROM? I mean I know I voided my warranty but I liked that phone and am all out of options at this point. :/
FI stock roms seem to be located at https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto X4/Stock/ Have not tried them myself and not sure you can flash with a locked bootloader.
You should be able to flash a stock ROM pretty easily. From what I've seen, you should be able to install any retail stock rom without unlocking the bootloader.

Hold Vol+ and Power buttons. Phone will try to reboot several times and then boot normaly. Go to developer options and tick allow factory unlock and USB debugging. Then you just unlock bootloader as usual.
This procedure helped fix the same issue with my xt1900-7 reteu.
Anyone get it OTA yet?
Yeah im waiting on it too, trying to not go the firmscience download route.
Looking like Verizon will be the last. Who knows how long it will take. Flashed it from my SD card on my note 9 a few days ago and no issues runs great. Probably won't be pushed out on Verizon until the end of the month. They are dragging there feet on this one
It hasn't been released yet.
Updated via SD card as well. No problems here.
Don't know what people are waiting for. You can update now at firmware.science. I did it last week on my Verizon Note 9. Easy as ...... Pie. (Edit: Unless it's an unlocked Verizon variant. Then you're screwed.)
The site walks you through the process. It asks what your current Oreo version is so it can prove the correct Pie version (CSAA, btw, same as AT&T and Sprint). And if it turns out Verizon goes off script and gives us something else, just Odin back, and then take the OTA.
(Cant remember and not sure how to tell if mine is unlocked variant or not) So if I bought my note 9 from Verizon its most likely unlocked and I cant update from firmware.science correct??

I think if it's an N960U1 then it's unlocked. Just go to About phone in Settings.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to use this site for an unlocked variant.
We are all playing the waiting game.
Does anyone know if hotspot mod works for Verizon like it does sprint?

The N960U1 is the factory unlocked version purchased directly from Samsung. You could also purchase it from Best Buy IIRC.
If purchased from Verizon, you have the carrier branded N960U. Verizon devices are also carrier unlocked, though that has no bearing on whether or not you can apply the update.zip from firmware.science.
If you're still confused as to what version you have...restart the phone. Do you see about ugly Verizon boot animation? If so, you have the carrier branded N960U.
As long as you are on N960USQS1ARL1, which you should be if you received the most recent OTA from Verizon in December, then you can absolutely apply the update zip from firmware.science. It's the same exact file Verizon will be pushing out via OTA. The same goes for ANY carrier branded device.
You can NOT use that update zip on the N960U1. It's different firmware.
With that said, you absolutely CAN use firmware.science to download OTAs for the N960U1...as they become available. As it stands, the only OTA files available for the U1 is the Pie beta files.
I have an N960U and I ran the update and it worked!
I sideloaded also. No issues.
I updated it through the SD card and it was super easy and I'm absolutely loving pie
I ran into an error while doing this method, I downloaded the update to the sd card and everything was going well, but when it rebooted it stayed stuck in the Verizon logo, i freaked out because it was bootlooping, eventually it gave me a prompt to start the phone in safe mode, so I did and it asked me to perform a factory reset in order to apply the update correctly. Long story short, I had to factory reset in order to properly update. Thankfully i had just performed a backup the day before.
For those doing the verizon pie update from firmware science, any issues, wifi calling work? Did it get rid of the verizon boot logo? etc?
Thank you!

Nope! Everything is the same.
No Verizon OTA update yet. I checked about 20 times today.
Issue with Firmware.Science Update Method
Hello guys, I've been trying to update via the firmware.science route with no luck. First I tried the sdcard method but for some reason in the recovery menu it says something along the lines of "could not mount /sdcard" and therefore fails to even start the update. Next I tried adb (my usb drivers and everything are up to date, I am running adb as an administrator and I know for a fact that this exact setup works for Odin to flash stock Oreo) but adb hangs around ~70%. On the phone it says "patching system image after verification" and neither adb or my phone have changed status for about 20 min now. Does anybody have any idea why I'm having issues with either of these methods? Thanks!

Update: Re-downloading the firmware from the firmware.science website seems to have fixed the adb issue and I'm booted up into Pie now. Still not sure why my sdcard wouldn't mount in recovery though, but whatever
Root needed?
I have a new locked Note 9 without a root. Can I do this update on my phone?
Model # - SM-N960U
Baseband Version - N960USQU1ARL1
I got out of rooting phones but waiting impatiently for this update lol.

This happened to me as well. But since doing a factory reset it has been smooth with no issues.
