So I had a botched situation caused by me when flashing a custom Rom (Rom/instructions is great, I went off the reservation myself) and had a soft brick.
I had decided at that point to just revert back to stock and not play around until things stabilize with Eng more. However, I couldn't.
The last stock referenced topic is with an outdated firmware and being 950U1 rather than just U. Downloading updated firmwares (or even attempting that one blindly) resulted in "Device dismatch".
I was then basically forced to (and successfully) go to SamPWN but that wasn't my initial intention.
Does anyone have an updated guide on how we can go back to stock without EngBoot, and specifically also states which CSC file is needed?

I may not have the answer, but check these guys and ask questions there, you should get an answer.

And this link if from an unlocked S8 forum, but it has some info that you can find useful.

As I stated, I've attempted this and it failed. Plus it doesn't explain which file for the CSC had it worked anyhow. Downloading the latest results in the model dismatch. So can't JUST download and flash. But thanks for atleadt trying.
@charkata thanks for the links, I'll check them out and see how that goes.

I'll give it a go, going to try to do it in an hour or so and see if it'll work with the PrinceC version.
Is there any chance (in your or anyone elses opinion) that the mismatch could be the result of the custom rom being based on U1 rather than just U?

No, it can't modify hardware based model number.

You should be able to just completely reflash the stock TMB firmware with the modded Odin without an issue...am I understanding correctly that this did not work? Download the Prince Comsey modded Odin. It has a .ini file that you need to open w/ a text editor like notepad++, and edit UMS=0 to UMS=1 -this allows you to also flash the userdata file included in the TMB firmware, along w/ the normal BL, AP, CP & CSC.
Make sure you downloaded the correct firmware for the S8 (G950U), not S8+ (G955U).

Did this work? Can anyone confirm? If not, I'm going to try it this weekend and hopefully I'll remember to reply here with results.

Hey guys i really need some help. I tried to install clockworkmod on my T-mobile samsung galaxy s (sgh-t959v) and i guess i bricked it. All that comes out on the screen is a phone and a computer. can someone pls tell me what to do to fix this and install the right way.
Thank you in advance
Fairly new to all this myself and don't have experience with T-Mobile but if you go here you should be able to get a Firmware for your phone: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=SGH-T959V&r=5#regiona
You should be able to download a stock firmware, odin & everything else you need to flash your stock firmware. From this site.
Perhaps wait and see other responses though as there maybe a way to fix without flashing a stock firmware. Also getting some info from someone with your phone on T-Mobile may be better.

Just confirming that what scubadude said above. Flash new firmware, it is a soft-brick and therefore recoverable. Something that needs to be added however is that you will need to make a login in-order to access the direct link. If the link still doesn't work after that then click firmware and follow on from there..
Hey everyone, I'm kind of new to Android overall, so pardon me if I missed some kind of detail.
My phone version is the SM-N920I, and after flashing recovery and the sky high kernel, my internet kind of stopped working on the phone.
Before successfully flashing the kernel, I got into some kind of boot-loop after flashing the recovery.
I read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/help/note-5-bootloop-stuck-os-t3197023/page2 that I could just install the noble kernel.
I found the noble kernel and how to install it through this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...easy-steps-n920t-aoge-odin-twrp-root-t3187422
Got it working, then decided to just flash it to sky high since it's supposed to have good support on gear VR.
While everything seemingly works, I can't connect to the internet. I'm on Cricket mobile.
Wi-fi of course, works but that won't save me when I need GPS or something.
Any help would be appreciated!
EDIT: I am stupid. APN settings were wiped, that was my issue.

I gather you have the Korean variant "L" ?
When asking for help, you should always post as much information as possible, including your ROM, bootloader and modem (baseband) versions. This can be found easily by just viewing the INFO section on Synapse.
After this, maybe you could post me your LATEST stock boot.img so I can compare the ramdisk to what I'm using from the "S". Maybe something needed in the default.prop. You can download the full stock firmware from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com. Please also state the firmware version you extracted the boot.img from.
If you're using the "i" variant, I haven't any reports in thread.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I'm on the "i" variant.
ROM I'm just using the StockyMOD found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/mod-v1-0-stockymods-t3254588
Baseband version is N920IDVU1AOH3
Bootloader version is N920IDVU1AOH6
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by posting my latest stock boot.img. If I look up my bootloader on the websites you provided me, the phone is from Singapore, so I'm guessing the latest version would be N920IDVU2AOJD. But I really have no clue, sorry.
I've tried using some other kernel like the arter97 kernel and the internet doesn't seem to work there either. So I'm guessing something must have went wrong when I flashed that Noble Kernel that was supposed to be for T-Mobile. Calling and texting works, it's just internet that doesn't work.
Hello. I was hesitant to start a new thread, but there are a lot of threads in this section of the forums, and i keep getting an error when trying to use the "Search this forum" bar. Anyway, I have a rooted 6.0.1 Note 5 (DPG1 update) with TWRP 3.0.2-1 and am trying to flash stock rom back to Lollipop. I am using ODIN with the firmware file named thusly "N920TUVU1BOH6_N920TTMB1BOH6_N920TUVU1BOH6_HOME.tar". I first tried flashing with the .md5 extension on the end, but it failed as well as with the .tar extension. I've looked quite a bit on the forums, as well as on the web, and anything i have found say it is as simple as ODIN flashing stock rom through download mode. any suggestions, or tips? am I going about this totally wrong? need more information from me? please let me know, any feedback is appreciated. thank you.
EDIT: I am looking to completely remove root from my device, including restoring stock recovery; trying to sell device. thanks again.

What firmware did your device ship with? If it didn't come with BOH6 ( which mine didn't ) I don't believe you can flash it, I could be wrong but only flash with the earliest the phone came with. I can't think of any other reason Odin wouldn't work as I flash back and forth all the time between PD1 I can't think of the last 5.1.1, I've been on 6.0 roms for about a month.
I see. It doesn't necessarily have to be lollipop that I use to flash, that is just what the site recommended, could I use the latest marshmallow? Or does it have to be the version that shipped with the device? Because I do not have that information sadly. Perhaps you could link me to something that is sure to work? As long as I am removing root, I am ok with what I end up with. Thanks again!
I have the leaked ver of Oreo installed, but I have an app that's incompatible with the new OS, so I've been trying to downgrade for several weeks now, with no success.
I've seen answers online that completely contradict each other- use Smart Switch backup (tried that, didn't roll back the OS), tried several versions of Odin and firmware, always get 'FAILED AUTH'.
Also seen some posts that say you can't downgrade, others that say yes you can.
Is it possible? How can I find out which bootloader I have?
I heard with Oreo they did the same as Apple do. They stop downgrading the OS, but I'm not sure about it.
I hope other members can help you.
I'm having the same issue, I have a Verizon tmb tmb vzw software version, I flashed the carrier switch CDC thing xxa I entered the codes what ever, but i don't k ow i kind of got stuck and flashed bra8 and it came up with tmobile after flashing that was my intention, and then I flashed oreo, I'm trying to roll back to update to the latest crb8 oreo but anything I try in Odin fails at initialization... or It just wont work, and the phone doesnt have a progress bar as I press start, it's like stuck, I'm losing my mind here, I even tried flashing tmobile and Verizon firmware on odin, I tried kies and switch to restore yo nougat bra8 with no go, even tried flashing the carrier switch thing, NOTHING IS WORKING different USB ports rebooting PC, reinstalled drivers, took aim out when odin, nothing.
Some one help us
Fixed
And just like that, as soon as I post this, I get it to work. After spending all night trying different versions of Prince Odin and different firmwares, I just switched to normal Odin and it worked immediately, so back to 7.1.1
can you please tell how and what you used to down grade note 8 back to 7.1.1....thanks

Have you tried Odin and the firmware for your device?
as long as the version you want to downgrade to is same version bootloader would it not be fine?
ie.. v3 to v3 is fine but not v3 to v2
I haven't been rooting or flashing with the Note 8 yet but that's the understanding I have from other threads

i already tried few procedures with no luck. what do you mean in prince ODIN and normal ODIN ? i am using the latest 3.13.1, shd we use something else ?
btw, i have oreo ...U2 and the SAM nougat rom is ...U1, i cant find any nougat with U2.
appreciate any help here...
tks
I think they changed something in oreo , where you cant downgrade now. Odin. Maybe latest update annoying i know.....no work around yet
The thing is like this: you can always flash roms with EQUAL O HIGHER bootloader version, just that, and NEVER to a lower bootloader version, and this is not new

Don't you want to try flashing only AP and CSC_OXM (not HOME)? I read on 4pda that it's possible, but you can have some errors while using your device.
Flash the oldest oreo with bootloader you have, then flash the latest nougat without BL and CP. Only AP and CSC OXM. Backup your data before doing it.
Flashed at&t firmware with odin but can't update software past July 1st sec uodate.
Hey guys. I picked a note 9 Verizon unlocked version and was having issues using it on at&t, volte obv not working hd voice calls not working and various other signal issues. I decided to flash to the at&t firmware with odin to fix it. First thing I did was flash the unlocked firmware, factory reset, then flashed at&t firmware. Everything is working just like I bought the at&t note 9 but I'm stuck on July security patch and the update is not recognized. Is there anyway to fix this ? Thanks in advance!
What happens when you try to update; it downloads the update but failing to install due to an error (what's the error) or not finding the updates at all? If latter try with Samsung smart switch install both on the phone and computer
It doesn't find any update ota or on smartswitch. Not sure maybe just need to wait longer, unless someone else has some bright ideas lol

What build number are you running? If you managed to get yourself stranded on a build not officially pushed by ATT, then you're stuck until you Odin to something else. Current ATT is ARI5.
I am on ARG6 build. Is there something you know of I can flash that would be better?

I'm not sure there is a path using update zips to get you current. I just looked and I can't see a way to get current from there. Somewhere on here an ARI5 Odin image (with no HOME_CSC) has been posted. That would get you to current ATT software. Once there, you would get OTA updates. I'm not sure how you got off the update track.
Edit: Here's the link to the Odin image you'd want: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bKlJ-2ikGRsOd3JkDIFvjHGJX6XnrtEH/view?usp=sharing - courtesy of @Venom0642

No, you don't need one. However, without HOME_CSC (and there isn't one that I'm aware of), your device will factory reset when you Odin this build. So make a full Smart Switch backup before doing it.
Oh that's fine I full wipe after odin anyways usually. Thanks so much !!
If you don't have an ATnT sim installed, it wont give you updates.

hey @CrazyApe18, i have a note 9 att locked on build number N960USQS2CSGB. I'm having an issue finding a current pie version to flash with odin. Basically I removed a bunch of things with adb a while back and wanted to restore back to factory. I pushed adb uninstall to things like the att update software, if I'm not mistaken a factory reset wouldn't restore this. I'm wanting to flash and then update to the new android version. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. I downloaded your link just in case it could help me. I'm familiar with odin, just having a hard time finding the firmware and SAMMOBILE is very slow for non paying users. I appreciate any help you can give me.
just realized that the version in your link is pre Pie. any idea where i can get a fairly recent pie firmware?
